• Emacs 23.1 make error 139 in Mac OS X 10.6.3

• IE8 CSS selector selects, but does not apply the style.

  This is making me want to kill myself. I have some really simple CSS to style my input objects: input, button { border: 1px solid #c66600; background-color: white; color: #7d212f; font-family: "Eras Light ITC", Tahoma, sans; } But I don't like the ugly border it puts around radio buttons, so I use a selector to kill the border: input[type=radio] { border: none; } You can probably guess what browsers this works in and which ONE it does not work in. What's funny is when I press F12 to launch the excellent developer tools in IE8 it actually tells me that the style of the radio buttons has been overridden to 'none' just like I asked it to do, but the border remains on the radio button objects. I have tried a variety of semantic things, like setting the border width to 0px or the color to something insane like lime green, but it remains the originally assigned color that it got from the first style. And finally, I have tried only styling 'text' objects, in which case no style is applied to anything. Again, the browser claims to fulfill the CSS selection, but it visually does not happen. Thoughts? By the way, this is a DotNetNuke installation with generated code where I can't explicitly set the style of the radio buttons. Thanks, Dan

• Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.InvalidOperationException: Two components with the same id.

  I'm working in ASP .NET dynamic data. In one of my edit controls I wanted to allow the user to add records from a related table to the current page. (Literally, if you are on the orders page, you would be allowed to add a new customer to the system on this page as well, and then associate it with that order). So, I have a DetailsView set to InsertMode, nested inside of an UpdatePanel, which is shown by a ModalPopupExtender which is invoked when 'add new' is clicked. This doohickey works the first time i execute this process, that is, a customer is added (and i update the dropdown list as well). However, I realized it didn't work (properly) again until I refreshed the entire page. When I attached my debugger, my worst fears were realized (ok, not really). But an exception was being thrown: "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.InvalidOperationException: Two components with the same id." Which seemed to be complaining about a Calendar Extender Control that is part of the details view. Any guidance on what's going on here would be great. Thanks.

• SIGABRT error when running on iPad

  Hello, all. I've been banging my head for a few hours because of this problem. I have a universal project that's a mix of iPhone and iPad projects. I put these codebases together into the universal project and, after a lot of "#if __IPHONE_OS_VERSION_MIN_REQUIRED >= 30200" checks, got the project to run in both the iPhone (OS 3.0 to 3.1.3) and iPad simulators. After doing a more finagling with the project settings of external libraries that I load, I got the app to load on an iPhone (which runs OS 3.1.3). However, when I run the app on my iPad, I get an immediate SIGABRT error. I've tried running it under Debug, under Release, with Active Architecture of both armv6 and armv7. I've checked and double-checked that the app has the right nib files set up (but, again, this app runs fine in the simulator). I've gone through the external libraries I'm using and set them up to have the same base SDK (3.2), same architectures (Optimized (armv6 armv7)), the same targeted device family (iPhone/iPad), and the same iPhone OS deployment target (iPhone OS 3.0). So, to summarize... I have a universal app that works in the simulator for iPhone and iPad, runs on an actual iPhone, but doesn't run on an iPad. It doesn't get far on the iPad -- there's an immediate SIGABRT error that stops execution. Help??

  Hi friends... So far I've been using custom cms. lately I developed own cms with CodeIgniter, and I'm actually happy. But recently I take more design and front-end development works than deep development projects. I actually also prefer so... I have many things to do with custom cms, also some security issues, etc. I'm kind of tired of doing everyhing custom, also I want to give more time to my family... Recently I'm seriously considering to go for a ready cms, and develop custom plugins when project need sth specific. This cms should be very flexible to implement any layout. also secured (since i had some hack problems with my custom cms!) I googled so much about this. As a result 2 options: Drupal Expression Engine opensource or licensed matter is not an issue for me at all. I just consider to go for a cms that I can use for any kind of project from simple 4-5 pages company sites to complicated projects like hotels directory, ecommerce portals, etc... As I found out; EE is more userfriendly and doesnt hassle about implementing custom layout as much as Drupal does. Also EE use CodeIgniter that I'm familiar. on the other hand I found out that Drupal is 10000% flexible, we can do anything with that (requires good php knowledge), extremely powerful and has many plugins... So I can't decide!! I want to go for a cms that I will use for looooong years from now on with no problems to implement any kind of project. So which one do you recommend? • FullCalendar and events: function

  I am trying to display my events from a MySQL database. I'm using the events function. My XML file being returned is pretty basic. I've looked at all of the FullCalendar questions and most of them talk about JSON and point to the documentation for JSON. I can't use JSON. I have to go XML. Can you tell me where I'm off. • CSS background-images and Z-Index problem

  Hope someone has an easy answer on this. I have a header image which is just a 75px high gradient with a fade on the bottom. I have it set as the background image on my header and I want to throw in a left-sidebar on my page. There is a transparency on the header image and when I have my sidebar I can't get it to sit behind the header. You can see in this screenshot: link text The green sidebar won't "sit" behind the header. I have the header z-index set to 99 and the sidebar to 1. I tried the reverse to make sure I didn't mix up my numbers but that didn't work. Both are absolutely positioned. I'm attaching their CSS selectors in the hopes someone has an easy answer.   Working around an issue where my jquery datepicker does not display after postback within an update panel. The textbox (trigger) for the calendar is contained within a control, which is contained within an update panel.   I need to run a JOIN query on a solr index. I've got two xmls that I have indexed, person.xml and subject.xml. Person: <doc> <field name="id">P39126</field> <field name="family">Smith</field> <field name="given">John</field> <field name="subject">S1276</field> <field name="subject">S1312</field> </doc> Subject: <doc> <field name="id">S1276</field> <field name="topic">Abnormalities, Human</field> </doc> I need to only display information from the person doc but each query should match fields in both person and subject. In the case the query matches only the subject doc I need to display all docs from the person that have a matching id. Is this possible to do without running two seperate queries? Something like a JOIN query would do the job. Any help?

• jQuery datepicker returns "inst is null" error when loaded via AJAX

  I'm loading content via an AJAX call into a table row added to the DOM on the fly. I'm calling the datepicker functionality in my callback function and the calendar shows fine. However, when I click on the date, I get an error: inst is null. • LGPL and Dual Licensing Ajax Library

  Hi guys, I'm the previous founder of Gaiaware and Gaia Ajax Widgets and when I used to work there we had this rhetoric (which I have confirmed with some very smart FOSS people is correct) that when using a GPL Ajax library you're basically "distributing" the JavaScript which in turn makes the GPL viral clause kick in and forces people to purchase a proprietary license if they're going to build Closed Source stuff... So now I'm the the LGPL world here with Ra-Ajax which is an LGPL licensed library and I've got no intentions of creating a GPL licensed library since I believe strongly in that the LGPL is the "enabler" of the Open Web to prevail. But something interesting have happened which I think might still give me a "business model" here which is the Linking clause of the LGPL which I think goes something like this (pseudo); "If you link to an LGPL licensed thing you get no restrictions on your own derived works"... But so we started creating something we're calling Ajax Starter-Kits which effectively is a "Project Kickstarter" where you can download a finished project/solution which basically enables you to start out with some pre-done boiler plate code for problems such as Ajax DataGrids, Ajax Calendar Applications, Ajax TreeView Applications etc. And the funny thing is that our users would NOT "link" to these, they would effectively BE our users applications... So to wrap up my question. Would this force users of our LGPL licensed Ajax Starter-Kits to LGPL license their own work? Basically if it does we have a business model (and I get very happy) if not I'd just have to hope people would still like to pay us those $29 for our Starter-Kits to support the project... ;) Help rewarded with extreme gratitude...

• iCal file that will update the attendee list?

  So I want to add an iCal file to a web page, so that people can add an event to their calendars. But when I view the event in my calendar (Outlook 2007) I want to see everyone who will be attending. How can I do that? I just started experimenting with this, I used Outlook's Save As to create an iCal file for a single event. That works, I can link to that file and other people can add the event to their calendars. But it doesn't tell me who has added it. • People not respecting good practices at workplace

  Hi There are some major issues in my company regarding practices, procedures and methodologies. First of all, we're a small firm and there are only 3-4 developers, one of which is our boss who isn't really a programmer, he just chimes in now and then and tries to do code some simple things. The biggest problems are: Major cowboy coding and lack of methodologies. I've tried explaining to everyone the benefits of TDD and unit testing, but I only got weird looks as if I'm talking nonsense. Even the boss gave me the reaction along the lines of "why do we need that? it's just unnecessary overhead and a waste of time". Nobody uses design patterns. I have to tell people not to write business logic in code behind, I have to remind them not to hardcode concrete implementations and dependencies into classes and cetera. I often feel like a nazi because of this and people think I'm enforcing unnecessary policies and use of design patterns. The biggest problem of all is that people don't even respect common sense security policies. I've noticed that college students who work on tech support use our continuous integration and source control server as a dump to store their music, videos, series they download from torrents and so on. You can imagine the horror when I realized that most of the partition reserved for source control backups was used by entire seasons of TV series and movies. Our development server isn't even connected to an UPS and surge protection. It's just plugged straight into the wall outlet. I asked the boss to buy surge protection, but he said it's unnecessary. All in all, I like working here because the atmosphere is very relaxed, money is good and we're all like a family (so don't advise me to quit), but I simply don't know how to explain to people that they need to stick to some standards and good practices in IT industry and that they can't behave so irresponsibly. What I like is that the footer is always visible, and you scroll the content. • Unable to convert from Julian INT date to regular TSQL Datetime

  Help me Stackoverflow, I'm close to going all "HULK SMASH" on my keyboard over this issue. I have researched carefully but I'm obviously not getting something right. I am working with a Julian dates referenced from a proprietary tool (Platinum SQL?), though I'm working in SQL 2005. I can convert their "special" version of Julian into datetime when I run a select statement. Unfortunately it will not insert into a datetime column, I get the following error when I try: The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value. So I can't setup datetime criteria for running a report off of the Stored Procedure. Original Value: 733416 Equivalent Calendar Value: 01-09-2009 Below is my code... I'm so close but I can't quite see what's wrong, I need my convert statement to actually convert the Julian value (733416) into a compatible TSQL DATETIME value. • Titanium won't run iPhone/Android Emulator

  I just installed Titanium SDK (1.5.1) and all the Android SDKs. Also, I already have iPhone SDK 4.2 installed. I downloaded KitchenSink and imported it into Titanium but whenever I try to run it on iPhone Emulator, I get this error: [INFO] One moment, building ...   I wanted to make a GWT widget using UiBinder. But when I run the Development Mode, the styles are not applied! I tried many different approaches, but it still doesn't work. What I noticed, is that in the HTML, the VerticalPanel is given the class name obfuscated by GWT, but the CSS is not send to the browser - in fact, the GWT doesn't even ask for it. Am I missing something?

These big companies don't seem to be following the rules so hotly debated in the ruby community (that you should almost never nest URLs for example), so I'm wondering how you go about implementing your own urls in larger scale projects because it seems like the idea of not nesting urls breaks down at anything larger than a blog. Any tips?

• Eliminate horizontal scrolling in div in favor of horizontal scrolling in browser window

  I have a div, set to 800px wide, that will automatically scroll horizontally if the browser window is resized to < 800px. The behavior I would like, is to have the browser window scroll instead of the div. It would seem simple but for some reason I'm getting hung up on it. Any ideas? • Computed width with decimal values in Firefox, but without decimals in Webkit

  Hello one more time! I have a strange problem working with HTML,CSS in different browsers: Firefox 3.6 and Webkit browsers (Chrome & Safari). My HTML looks like this: <div class="ln-letters"> <a href="#" class="all">ALL</a> <a href="#" class="a">A</a> <a href="#" class="b">B</a> <a href="#" class="c">C</a> </div> And my CSS is... .ln-letters a { font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; font-size:14px; display:block; float:left; padding:0px 7px; border-left:1px solid silver; border-right:none; text-decoration:none; } So as you can guess, each anchor gets a different width depending on its inner text. For example the first element with the text 'ALL' will be bigger (more width) than the others. Now the problem is that in Firefox (using Firebug) I can see that the computed width for the first element is 26.5667px, while in Chrome (using Chrome's developer tools) the computed width for the same element is exactly 27px. Therefore the div.ln-letters ends with different widths in each browser and that is causing me some troubles. Question is: there is any workaround to avoid Firefox computing decimal values? Or the opposite: to force Chrome to compute decimal values? Thank you in advance!
