• How to implement dynamic queries for MNesia?

  I'm trying to implement a function that generates dynamic queries for MNesia. For example, when function is called with these arguments; dyn_query(list, person, [name, age], ["jack", 21]) I want to query MNesia to list items whose name is "jack" and age is 21 in person table. I've tried to implement this by using qlc:q(ListComprehension) and qlc:string_to_handle("ListComprehension"). First failed because of compile errors, compiler didn't let me to use functions instead of ListComprehentions and variables instead of record names like "Item#Table.Member". Second failed, because erl_eval couldn't handle records and throwed exceptions like {undefined_record, person}. Which method should I use? How could i solve these problems? Or should I use a different method? Thanks.

• Core Data table record count

  I have an entity called Person and it has a relationship called participatingGames, to another entity called GameParticipant. I (apparently) can retrieve the number of matches in the GameParticipant entity using this simple code in the Person object I created from the entity in the model: [self.participatingGames count]; However, I'd just like to retrieve the number of Person records and one might guess the syntax for this is just as simple. I have lots of books including those by Jeff LaMarche, but those sources and what I find around here make me wonder if I need to set up a fetchedResultsController just to know the count of some entity. My background is in SQL, so of course it seems odd that what would take 15 seconds to code in any other environment seems like such a well-guarded secret in Core Data. I'm using iPhone SDK 3.1.4 under OSX 10.5.8 Suggestions?

  Hello. In simplistic terms, a feature structure is an unordered list of attribute-value pairs. [number:sg, person:3 | _ ], which can be embedded: [cat:np, agr:[number:sg, person:3 | _ ] | _ ], can subindex stuff and share the value [number:[1], person:3 | _ ], where [1] is another feature structure (that is, it allows reentrancy). My question is: what data structure would people think this should be implemented with for later access to values, to perform unification between 2 fts, to "type" them, etc. There is a full book on this, but it's in lisp, which simplifies list handling. So, my choices are: a hash of lists, a list of lists, or a trie. What do people think about this?

I suspected that the following would work jQuery('td.person#a'+personId).data('email',thisPerson.email).data('phone',thisPerson.phone); However, I am getting nothing but errors when I do this. jQuery('td.person#a'+personId).data('email',thisPerson.email); jQuery('td.person#a'+personId).data('phone',thisPerson.phone); is there another way to get more than one data entry on an element? Hopefully chained?

• Track/Display Array Index As Part Of Cout (C++)

  Hi, I have a command line C++ program that lets you enter basic information about a person (ID number, name, age, etc.) and I want to output to a console in the following manner: ------------------------------------------------------------------- Index ID # First Name Last Name Age ------------------------------------------------------------------- 0 1234 John Smith 25 The person objects are stored in an array of Persons and I've overload the ostream (<<) operator to print out all of the fields like you see. The dashed lines and header come from a displayHdg() function. Anyhow, I have not been able to figure out how to get the proper index value for the array. Ideally, I'd like to generate the indices for each line, but all my attempts have failed. The array is looped through and each object printed in the main() function, and the ostream is overloaded in a person class, so I tried to use global variables as well as static variables, and all of those produce incorrect numbering (i.e. show 0, 1 the first time (for 2 objects), then change to 1, 2 on the next display). Any ideas?

• Rotation of two objects in relation

  I've got a two sprites- I'll say I have a swing and a person. The swing 'swings' back and forth as I passed a rotation variable into spriteBatch.Draw(). Now I want my person to 'sit' on the swing, and am not sure of how to approach it. Since I want a relative to the swing sprite, I tried personPos=swingPos, but that obviously doesn't work as the swing's position is always the same (it's anchored to a point and swings from there). How would I make the person sprite follow the swinging part of the swing sprite, if that makes any sense?

  I am trying write Drag and Drop functionality using MVVM which will allow me to drag PersonModel objects from one ListView to another.   I have a query to get the IDs of people in a particular order, say: ids = [1, 3, 5, 9, 6, 2] I then want to fetch those people by Person.find(ids) But they are always fetched in numerical order, I know this by performing: people = Person.find(ids).map(&:id) => [1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9] How can I run this query so that the order is the same as the order of the ids array? I made this task more difficult as I wanted to only perform the query to fetch people once, from the IDs given. So, performing multiple queries is out of the question. I tried something like: ids.each do |i| person = people.where('id = ?', i) But I don't think this works.

If I have a JSON like the following: {"person1":{"name": "Name One", "address": {"street": "Some Street","city": "Some City"}}, "person2":{"name": "Name Two", "address": {"street": "Some Other Street","city": "Some Other City"}}} [There is no restriction on the number of persons, the input JSON can have many more persons] I could extract this JSON to Persons object by doing var persons = parse(res).extract[T] Here are the related case classes: case class Address(street: String, city: String) case class Person(name: String, address: Address, children: List[Child]) case class Persons(person1: Person, person2: Person) Question: The above scenario works perfectly fine. However the need is that the keys are dynamic in the key/value pairs. So in the example JSON provided, person1 and person2 could be anything, I need to read them dynamically. What's the best possible structure for Persons class to account for that dynamic nature.

  Lets say i have a Person table, a Role table with a trel table PersonRoles linking them as many to many. I create a new person and assign them to 2 roles (role 1, role 3). I then want to edit this person; so i retrieve their data and bind their roles to a checkboxes. I change the values (Deselect role 1 and select role 2 instead) I then post this data back through a viewmodel. Can i then get Entity Framework to update these roles for me, as in delete the entry in PersonRoles to role 1 and then add a new entry as role 2? Or do i have to do the logic for this myself?   I need to ask a general question. I don't have the code in front of me because I'm writing this on my iPhone. I have a Class that represents a certain XML schema. I have a SPROC that returns this XML. What I need to do is deserialize the XML to this Class. XML: <xml> <person> <firstName>Bob</firstName> <lastName>Robby</lastName> </person> </xml> I need to deserialize this XML into the custom Person Class so I can loop through this Model and spit it out in the View. I'm sure there's some kind of casting involved, I just don't know how to do it.

Here is an example of column names for a table 'Person': PersonalID, FirstName, LastName, Car, HairColour, FavDrink, FavFood Let's say that I input the row: 121312, Rayna, Pieterson, BMW123d, Brown, NULL, NULL Now I want to update the values for this person, but only if the new value is not null, Update: 121312, Rayna, Pieterson, NULL, Blonde, Fanta, NULL The new row needs to be: 121312, Rayna, Pieterson, BMW123d, Blonde, Fanta, NULL So I was thinking something along the lines of: Update Person(PersonalID, FirstName, LastName, Car, HairColour, FavDrink, FavFood) set Car = @Car (where @Car is not null), HairColour = @HairColour (where @HairColour...)... etc. My only concern is that I can't group all the conditions at the end of the query because it will require all the values to have the same condition. Can't i do something like Update HairColour if @HairColour is not Null

• How can I handle multiple views of a data object? Which design pattern is acceptable?

  I have a person object. class Person { private $name; ... } I need to be able to change how they are displayed on the front-end ( visitors have control ). They can choose list view, grid view, photo view for example. class PersonDisplay { public function displayList() { // Query database // Output html to display in list mode } public function displayPhoto() { // Query database // Output html to display in photo mode } } Is this an acceptable way to handle the presentation of the items on the front-end or is there a specific design pattern I should be researching to help me with this task? • Real thing about "->" and "."

  I always wanted to know what is the real thing difference of how the compiler see a pointer to a struct (in C suppose) and a struct itself. struct person p; struct person *pp; pp->age, I always imagine that the compiler does: "value of pp + offset of atribute "age" in the struct". But what it does with person.p? It would be almost the same. For me "the programmer", p is not a memory address, its like "the structure itself", but of course this is not how the compiler deal with it. My guess is it's more of a syntactic thing, and the compiler always does (&p)->age. I'm correct?

WARNING: If you’re overwriting the table name of either class, the table_name method MUST be declared underneath any has_and_belongs_to_many declaration in order to work.

  Is it possible to configure Hibernate reverse engineering and code generation tool in such a way that one-to-many relation between tables is mapped to entities inheritance instead of enrites relation? I have Person table and Employee table, which are related with the foreign key (Person contains basic information, Employee the rest). In my Java code I would like this relation mapped to inheritance Employee extends Person. This can be done by hand, but maybe I missed some custom configuration parameter that I can use. I couldn't find any official documentation - docs link on RedHat Hibernate page (http://www.hibernate.org/5.html#A10) is broken...

• How do I reference members of a single object passed to the View?

  I'm new to MVC2 in ASP.NET/C#, so please forgive me if I misunderstand something. I have code similar to this in my Controller: var singleInstance = new Person("John"); ViewData["myInstance"] = singleInstance; return View(); So in my view, Index.aspx, I want to be able to reference members in that object. For example, Person has a member called Name, which is set in the constructor. In the view I want to get Person.Name from what is stored in the ViewData object. Ex.: <%= ViewData["myInstance"].name %> That doesn't work. The only real workaround I've found is to do something like this: <% var thePerson = ViewData["myInstance"]; print (or whatever the method is) thePerson.Name; %> Any help would be much appreciated... This was so much easier in PHP/Zend Framework... sigh

• Setting many key/value pairs

  Hi, I'm working on a rake task which imports from a JSON feed into an ActiveRecord called Person. Person has quite a few attributes and rather than write lines of code for setting each attribute I'm trying different methods. The closest I've got is shown below. This works nicely as far as outputing to screen but when I check the values have actually been set on the ActiveRecord itself it's always nil. So it looks like I can't use .to_sym to solve my problem? Any suggestions? I should also mention that I'm just starting out with Ruby, have been doing quite a bit of Objective-c and now need to embrace the Interwebs :) http = Net::HTTP.new(url.host, url.port) http.read_timeout = 30 json = http.get(url.to_s).body parsed = JSON.parse(json) if parsed.has_key? • In which layer should I join 2 entities together?

  I use Spring MVC and a regular JDBC. I've just learned that I should separate business process into layers which are presentation layer, controller layer, service layer, and repository/DAO layer. Now suppose that I have an Entity called Person that can have multiple Jobs. Job itself is another entity which have its own properties. From what I gathered, the repository layer only manages one entity. Now I have one entity that contains another entity. Where do I "join" them? The service layer? Suppose I want to get a person whose job isn't known yet (lazy loading). But the system might ask what the job of that particular person is later on. What is the role of each layer in this case? Please let me know if I need to add any detail into this question.

  Hello, I have a database on a SQL Server 2000 server. This database has a table called "Person" that has a field call "FullName" that is a VARCHAR(100). I am trying to write a query that will allow me to get all records that have a name. Records that do not have a name have a FullName value of either null or an empty string. How do I get all of the Person records have a FullName? In other words, I want to ignore the records that do not have a FullName. • Code reviews for larger ASP.NET MVC team using TFS

  I'm trying to find a good code review workflow for my team. Most questions similar to this on SO revolve around using shelved changes for the review, however I'm curious about how this works for people with larger teams. We usually have 2-3 people working a story (UI person, Domain/Repository person, sometimes DB person). I've recommended the shelf idea but we're all concerned about how to manage that with multiple people working the same feature. How could you share a shelf between multiple programmers at that point? We worry it would be clunky and we might easily have unintended consequences moving to this workflow. Of course moving to shelfs for each feature avoids having 10 or so checkins per feature (as developers need to share code) making seeing the diffs at code review time painful. Has anyone else been able to successfully deal with this? Are there any tools out there people have found useful aside from shelfs in TFS (preferably open-source)?
