• Sharing Eclipse directory on Dropbox between Windows and Mac OS X

  This question was close to mine, but not quite. I have a Windows desktop and a MacBook Pro. I'd like to be able to keep my Eclipse workspace in my Dropbox folder. The problem is that many project settings change between platforms: references to JREs, JDKs, and other libs. Every discussion I've seen of this problem seems to suggest taking advantage of the source control system's ignore functionality, so that such-and-such file remains local-only and thus able to remain platform-specific. But when you're working with a real single shared folder, that class of solution doesn't apply. Have you had luck working with a Java Eclipse project living in a single folder shared over the network, cross-platform?

• Call function based off of a string in Lisp

  I am passing in command line arguments to my Lisp program and they are formatted like this when they hit my main function: ("1 1 1" "dot" "2 2 2") I have a dot function and would like to call it directly from the argument, but this isn't possible because something like (funcall (second args)...) receives "dot" and not dot as the function name. I tried variations of this function: (defun remove-quotes (s) (setf (aref s 0) '"")) to no avail, before realizing that the quotes were not really a part of the string. Is there a simple way to do this, or should I just check each string and then call the appropriate function? Thanks!

  I am extending the System.Net.Mail.MailAddress class to include an ID field, so I created a new custom MailAddress class that inherited from the existing class and a new custom MailAddressCollection class. I then overrode the existing System.Net.Mail.MailMessage.To to use my new collection. I would like to process the recipients in parallel, but I can't get the syntax right. This is the syntax I am using. • How to pass a file (read from Java) most effectively to a native method?

  Hi, I have approx. 30000 files (1MB each) which I want to put into a native method, which requires just an byte array and the size of it as arguments. I looked through some examples and benchmarks (like http://nadeausoftware.com/articles/2008/02/java_tip_how_read_files_quickly) but all of them do some other fancy things. Basically I don't care about the contents of the file, I don't want to access something in that file or the byte array or do anything else with it. I just want to put a file into a native method which accepts an byte array as fast as possible. At the moment I'm using RandomAccessFile, but that's horribly slow (10MB/s). Is there anything like byte[] readTheWholeFile(File file){ ... } which I could put into native void fancyCMethod(readTheWholeFile(myFile), myFile.length()) What would you suggest?

• Can a raw Lucene index be loaded by Solr?

  Some colleagues of mine have a large Java web app that uses a search system built with Lucene Java. What I'd like to do is have a nice HTTP-based API to access those existing search indexes. I've used Nutch before and really liked how simple the OpenSearch implementation made it to grab results as RSS. I've tried setting Solr's dataDir in solrconfig.xml, hoping it would happily pick up the existing index files, but it seems to just ignore them. My main question is: Can Solr be used to access Lucene indexes created elsewhere? Or might there be a better solution?

• Programmatic binding of accelerators in wxPython

  I am trying to programmatically create and bind a table of accelerators in wxPython in a loop so that I don't need to worry about getting and assigning new IDs to each accelerators (and with a view to inhaling the handler list from some external resource, rather than hard-coding them). I also pass in some arguments to the handler via a lambda since a lot of my handlers will be the same but with different parameters (move, zoom, etc). • Simple Communication between 2 instances of application

  I have a WPF application that can take a few optional command line arguments. This application is also a single instance application (using a mutex to close any instances if one is already open). What I want for it to do though, is if something tries to open the application with some cmd line args, that the application will do what it's suppose to do with those (in my application it opens different dialogs based on the cmd line). What is the easiest way to achieve this? • Stop Entity Framework from updating edmx model with a column that isn't needed

  I have rowguids in all my tables to help with change tracking in all my tables. I don't want/need these tables in my edmx or my entities. However, I do still need to make changes to other things sometimes so everytime i go to update model from database in the edmx it adds all the rowguids in all my tables everytime and i have to manually delete each one. Is there a way to handle this from happening? Is there a way I can maybe edit the T4 to maybe ignore that 'rowguid' column? Database first Entity framework

• How to manually close connection in BaseHTTPServer?

  I have a script that sends a request to an HTTP server. The "blah blah blah" is sent back, but the connection does not seem to close, and my script is waiting forever until I abort the server. (My thought is BaseHTTPServer automatically closes connection when the last part in "do_GET()" is computed, but I prevent this by restarting the script.) If I'm right, how do I close the connection? If not, what else might be the problem? Edit: The server script HAS to restart the entire program.

  Hi, i have a web user control containing a repeater. The repeater contains three buttons. On button click it gives the following error : Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" % in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation. Since user control does not have page directive, so i changed the enableEventValidation to false, but it restricted the itemcommand event of the repeater. Can someone guide me, how to solve this problem?

  I have a UNIX native executable that requires the arguments to be fed in like this prog.exe < foo.txt. foo.txt has two lines: bar baz I am using java.lang.ProcessBuilder to execute this command. Unfortunately, prog.exe will only work using the redirect from a file. Is there some way I can mimic this behavior in Java? Of course, ProcessBuilder pb = new ProcessBuilder("prog.exe", "bar", "baz"); does not work. Thanks!

  When indexing a couchdb view, you can emit an array as the key such as: emit(["one", "two", "three"], doc); I appreciate the fact that when searching the view, the order is important, but sometimes I would like the view to ignore it. I have thought of a couple of options. 1. By convention, just emit the contents in alphabetical order, and ensure that looking up uses the same convention. 2. Somehow hash in a manner that disregards the order, and emit/search based on that hash. (This is fairly easy, if you simply hash each one individually, "sum" the hashes, then mod.) Note: I'm sure this may be covered somewhere in the authoritative guide, but I was unsuccessful in finding it.

Yet, if you are stepping through the code in debug mode, they will differ a lot, and error conditions in an "if block" might be kicked off leading to the untimely (pun) execution of some code.

• unit testing methods with arrays as argument

  I am porting over some C++ assembly to VB that performs demodulation of various waveforms. I decided to go the unit test route instead of building a test app to get a feel for how testing is performed. The original demodulation code accepts an array that is the waveform along with some other arguments. How should one go about performing a test on something that has an array as an argument? Is it acceptable to generate fake data in a file and read it in at the beginning of the test? On a side note - The original C++ code was written because we were performing math that we couldn't do in VB6 so we had to cross boundaries between C++ and VB6 and arrays were used. Is there a "better" way of handling large amounts of data in the .NET world that us VB6 programmers may not yet be privy to? Or if we aren't crossing that managed/un-managed boundary, should we be representing our data as objects instead? Thanks all!

  Please see the two long linklabels below (please ignore the black lines above) Linklabels' length is made dynamically during runtime, and as seen, could be that it's too long and overlapping other text we have (there is another text where you see 'Differences'). My questions are: a) Can I limit the maximum length of a linklabel? b) Is that possible to use a scrollbar with a linklabel (or any similar control) in case that it's too long? e.g. setting it to 200 pixels, and in case it's longer, the user has to scroll the horizontal scroller and see end of the text. • C++ STL: Array vs Vector: Raw element accessing performance

  I'm building an interpreter and as I'm aiming for raw speed this time, every clock cycle matters for me in this (raw) case. Do you have any experience or information what of the both is faster: Vector or Array? All what matters is the speed I can access an element (opcode receiving), I don't care about inserting, allocation, sorting, etc. I'm going to lean myself out of the window now and say: Arrays are at least a bit faster than vectors in terms of accessing an element i. It seems really logical for me. With vectors you have all those security and controlling overhead which doesn't exist for arrays. (Why) Am I wrong? No, I can't ignore the performance difference - even if it is so small - I have already optimized and minimized every other part of the VM which executes the opcodes :)

  Here are the rules: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^$ index.php?action=home [L] RewriteRule ^[\w\W]*$ error.php [L] When a page matches the first one, it is supposed to ignore any other further rules. Yet accessing / results in error.php being invoked. Commenting out the second rule works as intended - the page redirects to index.php. What am I doing wrong? Also: is there a better way to write the last line? It's basically a catch-all.

• Getting 'choice' to work in Highline Ruby Gem without error and getting variable from it

  I'm having a couple of problems using Highline in Ruby, and trying to get the choice element, detailed here, to work. At the moment the following code produces the error "error: wrong number of arguments (0 for 1). Use --trace to view backtrace" How do I get the variable out of choice? At the moment I have the 'do' setup, but I have no idea about how to get the variable the user has chosen out and into a variable for use elsewhere.
