  • Sony Ericsson Windows driver problem

    I've installed Update Service and MediaGo for my Sony Ericsson phone but one of the drivers that was installed along with the software is causing problems in Windows 7 x64. Looking in the Event Log I see the following warning: Detected unrecognized USB driver (\Driver\seehcri) This is the driver corresponding to the Sony Ericsson seehcri Control Device. The failure to recognize the USB driver is causing problems with other services, namely the VMware USB Arbitration Service. It should normally start automatically but, due to the failure to recognize the seehcri USB driver, it fails with the following error: Error 31: A device attached to the system is not functioning. Disabling the driver has not helped at all. The VMWare service still refuses to start and I keep getting both warnings in the Event Log. I would like to remove the Sony Ericsson driver but unfortunately, that's not possible. Uninstalling the Sony Ericsson seehcri Control Device from Device Manager causes Windows to almost completely freeze up while trying to look for drivers for unrecognized hardware. Windows tries over and over again to locate and install drivers for an Unknown device, failing every time. Looking in Device Manager, it simply fills up with hundreds of unknown devices, also using up the CPU to almost 85% in the process. What should I do? How can I safely remove the driver without causing Windows to look for a new driver?

    I have been several day to getting AD over SSL (LDAPS) I followed exactly this guide. I have Active Directory Certifica Service installed (stand alone Root CA), I can request cert, install certs. but whenever I want to test the connection using LDP.exe I got this famous error ld = ldap_sslinit("localhost", 636, 1); Error 0 = ldap_set_option(hLdap, LDAP_OPT_PROTOCOL_VERSION, 3); Error 81 = ldap_connect(hLdap, NULL); Server error: <empty> Error <0x51>: Fail to connect to localhost. I have been searching, I know there are many thing can cause of this error, I tried most thing I can then I decided to post it here. I tried to look if any error in system log, but nothing :/ (but I could be wwrong) can anyone tell me what else to look? UPDATE: I restarted AD service following error showed in event viewer: LDAP over Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) will be unavailable at this time because the server was unable to obtain a certificate. Additional Data Error value: 8009030e No credentials are available in the security package

  • IPtables AWS EC2 NAT/Reverse NAT - For Reverse Proxy style setup but with IPtables

    I was thinking initially needing to do a reverse proxy or something so I could get some SSL/TLS traffic look like it is being terminated at a server and IP address in the AWS cloud, and then that traffic is forwarded onto our actual web servers that aren't in the cloud... I've not done much iptables pre and post routing before Dnat or Snat which I know are the things I need or a combination of the things I need in order achieve what i'm trying. Things to note:- Client/User - Must not be able to see backend IP address and only see the IP address of the cloud box https (TLS/SSL) - connection shouldn't be terminated at the cloud box, it should act like a router almost EC2 instance - Has only one network interface available to play with... this is thus an (internet <- internet) type of routing going on. EC2 instance IP address is already more or less behind a NAT that I have no control over, for example... Public ip address could be 46.1.1.1 but instance IP will be 10.1.1.1. Connections from client will go to 46.1.1.1 which will end up at the instance and on interface 10.1.1.1. The connection from the client then needs to be forwarded (DNAT) onto the backend web servers which are back out on the internet (SNAT). Possibly a part of the problem could be that the SNAT will need to be set to the external interface of the instance and I wonder if this makes it harder for IPtables to track the connection? So looking to basically, have it look as though connections are terminating at this server and its IP address. Whereas all that's really happening is the https request and connection is being forwarded straight onto another internet facing web server. How possible does that sound?

    QUESTIONs I'd like to know why I am getting Network error: 403 Forbidden in firebug for files that I am not trying to access? is it likely to cause any serious problems on the webserver? how to fix it. Why is my browser trying to access those files in the error message? DETAILS I’m using wampserver 2.2 to access a folder via the browser. The browser is on the same computer as the server. The computer is running windows 7 ultimate. When I view a web folder via my browser hXXp://localhost/folder I can see the folder contents ok but in firebug I get Network error: 403 Forbidden I’m not deliberately trying to access those files in the error msgs. You will notice they are in a completely different folder to the one I am looking at. I check the apache_error.log and see [Wed Sep 26 00:05:10 2012] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] client denied by server configuration: C:/apache2, referer: hxxp://localhost/folder/ Wampserver 2.2 is installed on D drive.     I'm working with Ubuntu 12.04, using OpenLDAP server. I've followed the instructions on the Ubuntu help pages and can happily connect without security. To test my connection, I'm using ldapsearch the command looks like: ldapsearch -xv -H ldap://ldap.[my host].local -b dc=[my domain],dc=local -d8 -ZZ I've also used: ldapsearch -xv -H ldaps://ldap.[my host].local -b dc=[my domain],dc=local -d8 As far as I can tell, I've setup my certificate correctly, but no matter why I try, I can't seem to get ldapsearch to accept my self-signed certificate. So far, I've tried: Updating my /etc/ldap/ldap.conf file to look like: BASE dc=[my domain],dc=local URI ldaps://ldap.[my host].local TLS_CACERT /etc/ssl/certs/cacert.crt TLS_REQCERT allow Updating my /etc/ldap.conf file to look like: base dc=[my domain],dc=local uri ldapi:///ldap.[my host].local uri ldaps:///ldap.[my host].local ldap_version 3 ssl start_tls ssl on tls_checkpeer no TLS_REQCERT allow Updating my /etc/default/slapd to include: SLAPD_SERVICES="ldap:/// ldapi:/// ldaps:///" Several hours of Googling, most of which resulted in adding the TLS_REQCERT allow The exact error I'm seeing is: ldap_initialize( ldap://ldap.[my host].local ) request done: ld 0x20038710 msgid 1 TLS certificate verification: Error, self signed certificate in certificate chain TLS: can't connect. ldap_start_tls: Connect error (-11) additional info: error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed After several hours of this, I was hoping someone else has seen this issue, and/or knows how to fix it. Please do let me know if I should add more information, or if you need further data.

    Problem: One user's iTunes consults a defunct HTTP proxy, but only for iTunes Store HTTP requests -- other iTunes web requests are unproxied. How do I dismiss this spurious proxy setting? Background: It's not as easy as Internet Options. Years ago my network had a mandatory HTTP proxy at 172.31.1.1:8080. When we switched to the 192.168.1/24 space and eliminated the proxy, this user's iTunes -- the only iTunes user at the time -- could no longer contact the iTunes Store, an operation which fails with "unknown error -9808". This has been the case through several iTunes.exe upgrades over the years and prevents, among other things, activation of a new or newly upgraded iPhone. wireshark and TCPView confirm that this user's iTunes.exe is attempting to contact the long-defunct http proxy when attempting to reach the iTunes Store, but is otherwise unproxied. Curious details: No other iTunes.exe HTTP traffic for this user is affected -- iTunes can successfully make HTTP chatter at Apple's servers. No other web traffic at all is proxied, whether this user or others, iTunes or browser, etc. I cannot find the spurious proxy setting anywhere in the registry nor on disk, though perhaps I haven't thought of every place to look and every format to look for. Other users who have experienced the same error code all seem to have unrelated web configuration problems (certificate validation, for example). UPDATE in response to Phoshi's excellent suggestion, reinstallation hasn't done the trick.

  • MacBook Pro battery capacity 65K mAh

    I have a 15" MacBook Pro 3.1 (that is Late 2007 model AFAIR). I've bought it new a couple of years ago. Recently its on-battery power lifespan became very short (30 to 10 minutes). When my notebook turns itself off due to "low battery" and I press the small button on the battery itself, all LED lights are alight, indicating full charge. When I plug in the power adapter, my Mac displays that "battery is fully charged, finishing charging process" (I have a Russian OS X 10.5.7, so that is a rough translation), but the LEDs on battery itself display (seemingly accurate) status that there are one or two "LEDs still not charged". My battery have as few as 37 recharge cycles (yes, I've neglected calibration over the time I've used it). Battery info programs like iBatt2 report battery capacity of 65 337 mAh (with by-design capacity of 5600 mAh). I get it that something went wrong with battery electronics. I've tried resetting my Mac's PRAM and SMC, it did not changed anything. Now I'm trying to recalibrate the battery, but looks like it does not help as well. Will try to recalibrate it several times in a row. I'd buy a new battery if I knew if it is battery fault, not a notebook's. Any suggestions? Update: After recalibration, my battery status now displays battery capacity of 1500 mAh. But with every recalibration (or simply when I use notebook without power adapter plugged in) this number changes in the range from 200 mAh to 1700 mAh. LEDs on battery now are synchronous with what nodebook thinks on the charge level. Also I've noticed that cycle count changes rather slowly. It is now 39, it was 37 when I've started recalibration, and I went through the process at least ten times... So, the main question is: does it look like that replacing the battery would help me (or does it look like this is notebook's problem)? I guess I should try replacing the battery.

  • Outbound HTTP performance tuning recommendations

    I'll detail my exact setup below, but general recommendations for a better web-browsing experience will be useful. A nice checklist of things to try would be great! I have 600 users on a single site with an 8MB leased line. I get a lot of moans about the performance of "the internet" (ie web-browsing). What recommendations do the community have for speeding things up without just throwing more bandwidth at it? I expect I will end up buying some more, but good management tips are always valuable. My setup is this: Cisco PIX (515E) firewall on the edge of the network. It's just doing some basic NAT, and opening up a handful of ports to various bastion hosts (aka DMZ servers). The DMZ is just a switch that the servers are plugged into. ISA 2006 Enterprise array (two servers) connecting DMZ to the internal LAN, with WebSense Web Security filtering HTTP traffic so users can't look at porn or waste bandwidth on YouTube during working hours. I've done a few things - I've just switched my internal DNS over to use root hints, which halved DNS query latency from 500ms to 250ms. Well worth doing. I'm trying to cache more aggressively, but so much more of the internet is AJAXy and doesn't cache very well as compared to five years ago. Plus the 70GB of cache which felt like a lot a few years ago really isn't any more. I'm getting about 45% cache hits by number of requests, but only about 22% by size, ie larger objects are less likely to be cached. Latency seems to be part of the problem. Is that attributable to the bandwidth problem, or are there things I can look at to try to reduce latency even on heavily-loaded bandwidth?

  • Why do AWS spot-instance prices spike above the "on demand" pricing?

    Amazon Pricing on Spot Instance Inconsistencies This is something which will be best explained through screenshots of a historical chart of instance pricings. If you look at a lot of the instance prices for spot instances, you will notice regular patterns of spikes. See here: As you can see, the price for this compute medium instance, regularly spikes above the on demand price. A c1.medium instance (on demand), would only cost $0.186 per hour. But for a period of a few weeks, in zone B, the price would regularly spike to $1.20. This is some 6 times the actual on demand price. It's also not isolated. If you look at zone-b again for small instances, there is a similar, spike frequently. Which goes 4x the on demand pricing. Does anyone know why this happens? Here are a few suggestions Someone entered $1.2 instead of $0.12 (I would discount this since it happened 20 times over the space of 3 weeks). Amazon regularly artifically inflate their prices by bidding on their own instances to get the most bang for their buck. (I would discount this since it would be ridiculous and bad business) Some company launched 1000 servers at once, and wants to make sure that they all launch. (I would discount this since they would presumably launch them at a price which would be below the minimum on demand price. Why would you pay above on demand for a single server?). It's a bug in their reporting?

  • Kate gives out debug messages on the console from which it is started

    I am new to Linux. I use Ubuntu 11.04. Whenever I open a file with kate from the commandline, with 'kate &' (or without ampersand), Kate starts out giving messages on the console. It continuously gives them out as I save a file or close one. They look like debug messages to me (sample below). I have used Synaptic package manager to install Kate. Uninstalling and installing the dev version did not make any change. Soon my console becomes cluttered. Is there a way to suppress these messages? There was nothing explicit in Kate settings either.
