• how to search files of particular extension in the entire device ?

  In my application, i am trying to find all files of particular extension (like .pdf, .txt, etc) that are stored in the whole device (not only in Home Directory) and want to list them in table View. Is it possible to do so and if it is then can i associate file of specific extension to get it open in supporting application (any third party plug-ins).I went through numerous documentation but couldn't find the solution. Also how can i index files of these extension for fast search. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

• What's the official Microsoft way to track counts of dynamic controls to be reconstructed upon Postback?

  When creating dynamic controls based on a data source of arbitrary and changing size, what is the official way to track exactly how many controls need to be rebuilt into the page's control collection after a Postback operation (i.e. on the server side during the ASP.NET page event lifecycle) specifically the point at which dynamic controls are supposed to be rebuilt? Where is the arity stored for retrieval and reconstruction usage? By "official" I mean the Microsoft way of doing it. There exist hacks like Session storage, etc but I want to know the bonafide or at least Microsoft-recommended way. I've been unable to find a documentation page stating this information. Usually code samples work with a set of dynamic controls of known numbers. It's as if doing otherwise would be tougher. Update: I'm not inquiring about user controls or static expression of declarative controls, but instead about dynamically injecting controls completely from code-behind, whether they be mine, 3rd-party or built-in ASP.NET controls.

• Wpf- Is there any way to disable some of the default hotkeys in a RichTextBox?

  I have several keybindings in my text editing application that no longer work now that I have switched from using a regular textbox to using a richtextbox. This is because the wpf richtextbox has several default hokeys such as "Ctrl+1", "Ctrl+2", and "Ctrl+5". My keybindings are defined in a view that contains the view that the richtextbox is in. I can't move the keybindings to the richtextbox; Is there any fix for this problem? Other than using a third-party control or creating my own richtextbox from textboxbase.

• Efficient way to create/unpack large bitfields in C?

  I have one microcontroller sampling from a lot of ADC's, and sending the measurements over a radio at a very low bitrate, and bandwidth is becoming an issue. Right now, each ADC only give us 10 bits of data, and its being stored in a 16-bit integer. Is there an easy way to pack them in a deterministic way so that the first measurement is at bit 0, second at bit 10, third at bit 20, etc? To make matters worse, the microcontroller is little endian, and I have no control over the endianness of the computer on the other side.

  I recently switched to vs2010 and am experimenting with asp.net MVC2. I am building a simple website and use the entity framework to design the data model. From the .edmx file, I generate the database tables. After a few iterations, I decided that it would be nice to have version control of the database schema as well, and therefore I added a database project into which I imported the script that is generated from the datamodel. As a result, I have to generate the sql every time that I change the model and redo the import. The database project automatically updates the database. Although the manual steps to generate the sql and the import are annoying, this works pretty well, until I wanted to add the standard tables for user accounts/authorization etc. I can use the framework tools to add the necessary tables, views etc. to the database, but as I do not want to have them in the .edmx model I end up with a third manual step. Is anybody facing similar issues?

  I want a lite-weight C++ XML parser/DOM that: Can take UTF-8 as input, and parse into UTF-16. Maybe it does this directly (ideal!), or perhaps it provides a hook for the conversion (such as taking a custom stream object that does the conversion before parsing). Offers some XPath support. I've been looking at RapidXML, the Kranf xmlParser, and pugiXML. The first two of those might permit requirement #1 by way of a hook. The third, pugiXML, supports the #2 requirement. But none of those three fulfill both requirements. What is the smallest (free) library that can handle both requirements?

• ado.net slow updating large tables

  The problem: 100,000+ name & address records in an access table (2003). Need to iterate through the table & update detail with the output from a 3rd party dll. I currently use ado, and it works at an acceptable speed (less than 5 minutes on a network share). We will soon need to update to access 2007 and its 'non jet' accdb format to maintain compatability with clients. I've tried using ado.net datsets, but updating the records takes hours! We process 5-10 of these tables per day - so this cannot be a solution. Any ideas on the fastest way to update individual records using ado.net? Surely we didn't take such a hugh backward step with ado.net? Any help would be appreciated.

  If I want to use the name baz defined in package foo|bar|quz, I've several choices: provide fbq as a short name for foo|bar|quz and use fbq|baz use foo|bar|quz|baz import baz from foo|bar|quz|baz and then use baz (or an alias given in the import process) import all public symbols from foo|bar|quz|baz and then use baz For the languages I know, my perception is that the best practice is to use the first two ways (I'll use one or the other depending on the specific package full name and the number of symbols I need from it). I'd use the third only in a language which doesn't provide the first and hunt for supporting tools to write the import statements. And in my opinion the fourth should be reserved to package designed with than import in mind, for instance if all exported symbols start with a prefix or contains the name of the package. My questions: what is in your opinion the best practice for your favorite languages? what would you suggest in a new language? what would you suggest in an old language adding such a feature?

• pySerial writes to Arduino Uno get buffered

  I have a Python script that writes short messages to the serial port on my Arduino Uno board using pySerial. There is a loop and depending on some conditions, multiple writes can happen within a loop, something like this: while True: #Conditions block 1 if <CONDITION1>: serial.writelines("INIT") elif <CONDITION2>: serial.writelines("NEW") ... #Conditions block 2 if <CONDITION1>: # Fetch something from the Internet serial.writelines("CHECK") elif <CONDITION2>: # Fetch something from the Internet serial.writelines("STOP") ... But, when my Arduino board receives this it receives the first message as INIT, but the second one is being read as INITSTOP or INITCHECK and third one gets concatenated to the previous messages. My arduino program checks for specific message in this way: if(msg.equals("CHECK")) { // Do something } else if(msg.equals("INIT")) { // Do Something else } Can anyone guide me on this? BTW, I don't think the problem is with the Arduino as it works perfectly when I test it with the Serial Monitor available with the IDE. I've tried adding sleeps of upto 10 seconds before every write, but that did not work out.

• How can I prevent users from taking screenshots of my application window?

  What are some methods to prevent screenshots from being taken, if any? I've considered setting the "Print Screen" button as a hotkey, which makes the window fuzzy. However, there would be the problem of other 3rd party screenshot tools. How can I prevent their use? Why would I want such a thing? The idea is to create a chat client which you can't share the chatted information with others, not by copy & paste nor by print screen...   I have two tables, "name" and "address". I would like to list the last_name and joined address.street_address of all last_name in table "name" that occur more than once in table "name". The two tables are joined on the column "name_id". The desired output would appear like so: 213 | smith | 123 bluebird | 14 | smith | 456 first ave | 718 | smith | 12 san antonia st. | 244 | jones | 78 third ave # 45 | 98 | jones | 18177 toronto place | Note that if the last_name "abernathy" appears only once in table "name", then "abernathy" should not be included in the result. This is what I came up with so far: SELECT name.name_id, name.last_name, address.street_address, count(*) FROM `name` JOIN `address` ON name.name_id = address.name_id GROUP BY `last_name` HAVING count(*) > 1 However, this produces only one row per last name. I'd like all the last names listed. I know I am missing something simple. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  I'm getting reports that my app is causing a GPF on some Vista machines. The error message is something like this: access violation at 0x75784062 ( tried to write to 0x00000006) In order to fix this, I first need to know exactly who is causing this GPF: my main exe, some third party component, one of my own activex components, a dll, etc... How can I find this out? What tools can pinpoint the exact module that caused this mess? Any help would be greatly appreciated. PS My app is coded in VB6 and my activex controls are written in Delphi 2007.

Could the difference in IE7 have to do with the fact that the domain of the form (forms.netsuite.com) is different than the domain of the parent page(checkout.netsuite.com) and it's being submitted over HTTPS?

Once this is done , then second user can sign any jar using this certificate , isn't ? I want to distribute content as jars , contents will contain properties files for a application init. I want to make sure that an user is not capable to rebuilding the property files using the certificate he extracted from jarentry. In the code which reads the jar contents i am checking that jar is signed with my certificate only and also checking that jar is not tampered with . But the issue came to my mind that if i am able to extract the cerificate from jar then why don;t a third guy ? Can any one help me in this............

• Simple ADO.NET C# Stored Procedure Generator

I am tired of writing the C# wrapper code for these stored procedures, seems like there should be some simple utility or Add In that would allow me to simply point to a stored procedure and generate some generic C# code. I am not looking for some big ORM or data access layer framework. The company I am doing this for is not interested in moving to something like that right now. Just wanting something to take the grunt work out of writing the C# wrappers around stored procedures. Again, prefer that we do not have to include in other 3rd party libraries, etc. Any ideas?

  I need to build a solution which will allow registered users of a Wordpress site upload videos to the server and have them moderated before being published on the site. Failing that, I would like to let users upload their file, then the Admins would check the video is appropriate, upload it to youtube, and manually embed it into a post. This has to look transparent - so I don't want to make the users into contributers. • How to catch printf from a dll?

  I've got a C++ console application that uses a third-party dll (jvm.dll, indirectly) that uses printf to print various error messages (Java stacktrace). I need to catch these stacktraces to a string in order to process them further, or at least to see them printed on the console. The thing is that I see the stacktrace only when debugging my application in VisualStudio (VS 2010). When I run my application in the "normal way", i.e. from the command line, nothing is printed on the console. So VS is able to somehow interfere the java output and display it. I need to be able to do the same thing. I've already tried freopen(), but without success. Also, I've found this question on the same problem, but without a clear answer.

  First, I am aware that dynamic languages is a term used mainly by a vendor; I am using it just to have a container word to include languages like Perl (a favorite of mine), Python, Tcl, Ruby, PHP and so on. They are interpreted but I am interested here to refer to languages featuring strong capability to support the programmer efficiency and the support for typical constructs of modern interpreted languages My question is: there are dynamic languages can be compiled efficiently in native executable code - typically for Windows platforms? Which ones? Maybe using some third part ad-hoc tools? I am not talking about huge executables carrying with them a full interpreter or some similar tricks nor some smart module able to include its own dependances or some required modules, but a honest, straight, standard, solid executable code. There are a few different 3rd party code frameworks that include calendar controls, but most of them have a lot of functionality I don't need, plus most of them lack sufficient documentation on how to use them and I'm not a proficient enough iPhone developer figure it out using just the code. So I'm going to attempt to build my own and I was hoping you could provide me with some high-level direction to get started. At a high level, how could I build a simple, calendar control that doesn't do much more than display a calendar (month view, with the current date highlighted) and allows the user to selected a date? Something that looks like the calendar in the upper right corner of this image... Thanks so much in advance for your help!
