  • Outlook 2007 - repainting (?) problems when copying and pasting between windows: have to switch focus before pasted text is visible

    For some time now I've had a problem when copying and pasting between Outlook 2007 windows, or from other office apps into Outlook 2007. When I paste, say into a new email, the email window's text area goes blank. The window isn't 'not responding', the To and Subject contents are still visible, but it looks like all the text in the email has been deleted. Initially I thought it was just taking ages to paste, but it turns out I need to switch focus to another window and then switch focus back to the Outlook window. Only then does the body of the email repaint itself. It's at the point that I click onto the Outlook window that the body area changes from blank white to showing all the text that was there before plus the pasted text. Any ideas? I've updated my graphics driver. Not sure what else it could be. I do sometimes have similar problems in Visual Studio 2010 too: when I paste text into a code window it doesn't show immediately, but the rest of the window shows what was there before I pasted. I'm using Win XP with all updates applid, on a Dell Vostro 1510.

    I refresh pages by writing window.location = window.location; however this doesnt work on a page like /page#c22. It will just jump to whereever c22 is. How do i refresh the page? It does not need to use go to #c22 once refreshed but i am sure there is a more dependable way then window.location = window.location

  • Why is this Javascript that writes out a Google Ad not displaying properly on the iPhone?

    I have this Javacsript code that checks to see if there is a DIV named "google-ad", and if there is, it writes in a the necessary code to display the Google Ad. This works great in browsers like Firefox, Chrome, Safari on Mac, and Android. However, when I bundle this code with Adobe's Phonegap Build, and deploy it to iPhones, it behaves strangely. It launches a browser window displaying just the Google Ad alone.   • How to create a Windows GUI with a file explorer window, allowing users to choose files?

    Here's what I want to do. I want to present a file explorer, and allow the user to select files, and list the selected files below. (I then want to process those files but that's the next part) For example, the way CD Burning softwares work. I have created a mock up here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/113967/Mockup.png As you can see, the left frame has a directory structure, the right frame has a file selected, and the bottom frame shows the selected file. What framework can I go about creating this? I am familiar with command line C++ stuff, but I haven't ventured into any GUI programming, and figured this idea would be a good place to start. Any suggestions on where to start?

  • Can a custom MFC window/dialog be a class template instantiation?

    There's a bunch of special macros that MFC uses when creating dialogs, and in my quick tests I'm getting weird errors trying to compile a template dialog class. Is this likely to be a big pain to achieve?   • Display constantly updating information in-place in command-line window using python?

    I am essentially building a timer. I have a python script that monitors for an event and then prints out the seconds that have elapsed since that event. Instead of an ugly stream of numbers printed to the command line, I would like to display only the current elapsed time "in-place"-- so that only one number is visible at any given time. Is there a simple way to do this? If possible I'd like to use built-in python modules. I'm on Windows, so simpler the better. (E.g. no X11).

Nothing is wrong, but curiosity levels are high. $ssh [email protected] Password: Last login: Wed Apr 7 21:28:03 2010 from my-laptop.local ^lonely tylenol^ Line 1 is my command line 2 is the shell asking for the password line 3 is where my question comes from line 4 comes out of /etc/motd I can find nothing in ~/ of an of the .bash* files that contains the string "Last Login", and would like to alter it. It performs some type of hostname lookup, which I can not determine. If I ssh to another host: $ssh [email protected] Last login: Wed Apr 7 21:14:51 2010 from 123-234-321-123-some.cal.isp.net.example hi there, you are on box 456 line 1 is my command line 2 is again, where my question comes from line 3 is from /etc/motd *The dash'd IP address is not reversed On this remote host, I have ~/.ssh and it's corresponding keys set up, so there was no password request Where is the "Last Login:" coming from, where does the date stamp come from, and most importantly, where does the hostname come from? While on remote-host@remote.location.example.com (box 456) $echo hostname remote.location.example456.com Or with dig, to make sure I have rDNS/PTR set up, for which I am not authoritative, but my ISP has correctly set... $dig -x 123.234.321.123 PTR remote.location.example456.com or $dig PTR 123.321.234.123.in-addr.arpa. +short remote.location.example456.com. my previous hostname used to be 123-234-321-123-some.cal.isp.net.example, which I set with hostname -s remote.location.example456.com, because it was obnoxious to see such a long name. That solves the value of $echo hostname which now returns remote.location.example456.com. Mac OS X, 10.6 is this case, does seem to honor: touch ~/.hushlogin If leave that file empty, I get nothing on the shell when I login. I want to know what controls the host resolution of the IP, and how it is all working. For example, running last reports a huge list of my logins, which have obtusely long hostnames, when they would be preferable to just be remote.location.example456.com. More confusing to me, reading the man page for wtmp and lastlog, it looks like lastlog is not used on OS X, /var/log/lastlog does not exist. Actually, none of these exist on 10.5 or 10.6: /var/run/utmp The utmp file. /var/log/wtmp The wtmp file. /var/log/lastlog The lastlog file. If I am to assume that the system is doing some kind of reverse lookup, I certainly do not know what it is, as it is not an accurate one.

  • Change workarea size of Linux desktop

    I'm trying to write a taskbar/panel for Linux (like fbpanel or pypanel) using GTK# and am a little hung up. I've created a Gtk.Window to act as the panel and positioned/resized it appropriately. I've also set its WindowTypeHint to Dock so that it remains on top of other windows. So far it 'looks' like a panel. However, if the panel is running and I maximize another window, that window fills the whole desktop - meaning the bottom portion of the window is covered up by my panel. I've gathered that I probably need to change the desktop's workarea. How can I go about doing this in C#? (Preferably using GTK#, but I don't mind using interop if it's necessary.) As a bit of a side point, I'm curious if anyone knows how I would go about 'informing' the window manager about where applications' taskbar buttons are. (For example, if the window manager wants to animate the minimize action so that the window shrinks down to its button on the taskbar, how do I let the window manager know where that button is on the taskbar?)

    We have seen a strange issue on some Windows XP machines involving the "Co-ordinated Universal Time" time zone. Not all Windows XP machines seem to have it, but on those that do, the following simple Java program public class TimeTest { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(java.util.TimeZone.getDefault()); System.out.println(new java.util.Date()); } } on JDK 1.6.0_06 prints: sun.util.calendar.ZoneInfo[id="America/Caracas",offset=-16200000,dstSavings=0,useDaylight=false,transitions=5,lastRule=null] Fri Nov 13 05:34:14 VET 2009 (i.e. 4 and a half hours behind GMT). I should add that I am based in London, and have never been to South America. :-) My questions are: Where does Java get this time zone from? I thought Co-ordinated Universal Time was supposed to be the new name for GMT. Why do some Windows machines have this time zone but not others?
