• Java EE - newbie question (not related to learning JEE)

  I've read lot of articles saying, that Java EE is most popular enterprise solution nowadays. Let's not argue if it is most popular or second most popular or what. The thing is : I see almost all web pages with extension like .html, .php and .aspx. Why there is (almost) none .JSP ? Why so ease to find ASP.NET pages if it is supposed to be less popular? Please I am not programming with Java EE (yet) so don't blame me, if I am completely wrong. The answer with patience would be greatly appreciated!

  For the jQuery extension Jeditable, one of the parameters that can be specified is which DOM event will turn a div/span/... into a text input/textarea/... I would like to have more than one event serve as a trigger; that is, I would like either a click event or a contextmenu event to turn a span into an in-place edit area. Is there a graceful way to do this without forking Jeditable? --edit-- An example of code specifying the event is below. The parameter is optional, defaulting to a regular click. $(".edit_rightclick").editable("/ajax/save", { cancel: "Cancel", submit: "OK", tooltip: "Right click to edit.", event: "contextmenu", }); Calling twice, once for the regular click event with the event unspecified, and one for the contextmenu event (right-click if there are no switched mouse buttons or anything like that) does not seem to produce the intended effect of an element becoming editable in place on a click from either mouse button.

• App Engine: Launching a script upon update/run

  Hi all. I'm working with App Engine and I'm thinking about using the LESS CSS extension in my next project. There's no good LESS CSS library written in Python so I went on with the original Ruby one which works great and out of the box. I'd like App Engine to execute lessc ./templates/css/style.less before running the development server and before uploading the files to the cloud. What is the best way to automate this? I'm thinking: #run.sh: lessc ./templates/css/style.less .gae/dev_appserver.py --use_sqlite . And #deploy.sh lessc ./templates/css/style.less .gae/appcfg.py update . Am I on the correct path or is there a more elegant way of doing things, perhaps at the appcfg.py level? Thanks.

  I am getting this error when I use the Linq expression of var emp = _testModel.Where(m => m.Date == DateTime.Now).Select(m=>m); 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable' does not contain a definition for 'System' and no extension method 'System' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?). I have google'd and looked everywhere by I have no idea what it is talking about? It doesn't throw an exception. The only way I found out about this was stepping through the expression.

• IIS 8 - PHP Manager - Enabling php_oci8.dll for Oracle Connection

  I would need to connect to Oracle DB in my PHP codes. I'm using Windows Server 2012, IIS 8 with PHP Manager. I opened IIS PHP Manager, then go to PHP Extensions, then I enabled "php_oci8.dll" extension. However when I tried to connect to Oracle DB I'm getting the following PHP error: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function oci_connect() I just restarted the IIS using the IIS Manager, but didn't done computer reboot. Do I need to reboot? Do I also need to download "instantclient-basic-windows.x64-12.1.0.1.0.zip"? If yes, do I just need to set it to classpath "Path" where I extracted?   I've been given a big chunk of code which eventually calls upon the SetDocsMetaInfo method from Frontpage Server Extension RPC. This is easy enough for most document uploading and property updating, except when dealing with multichoice fields. I've been scouring through MSDN and I can't find anything on how to fill in multiple values for such a field. The general syntax for properties is something like this: [SR|default], with the type (string in this case) followed by a pipe and then the value to be written.   Hi guys, I'd like to create a website with similar concept as 'Hot or Not' where users need to sign up to the website and then upload photos. Each photo can be given a description and some additional fields. Other users may comment and rate the photo entries. On top of that, users may favourite/bookmark (and remove) any photo entries and they're accessible via their profile page That's generally how the website will be. Can't decide on a CMS to use Somehow I'm at a crossroad here. I've done some research and found that Joomla has an extension that is able to pull this website off but the thing is I'm not that comfortable with using Joomla. I work with WordPress most of the time, but I can't seem to figure out how would I build this website with WordPress. Would using BuddyPress make it work? Would hiring a plugin developer to customize some plugins work? What do you guys think?

• Standard documentation of Visual Studio commands?

  Visual Studio has a concept of commands, i.e. actions executable by pressing a shortcut, entering them on the Command Window etc. Visual Studio itself documents its commands (at least some of them) but I was wondering if there is a unified way to get information about any command, e.g. coming from ReSharper, TestDriven.NET etc. What I'd like to see for every command: Textual description of the command List of parameters and their types/allowed values I've never developed a VS addon / extension so am not sure if this question even makes sense but from the user perspective, some documentation would be greatly appreciated. BTW, is the Command Window the best place to get at least an overview of all the commands available? ToolsOptionsKeyboard is another place where I can see shortcuts also but the UI is not very convenient...

• Firefox - Stashing Requests for Deliberate Resubmission to Django App

  I've got an object creation form that's somewhat complicated, it contains a few dynamic formsets etc. I'm trying to ensure that these dynamic formsets are intact if the form runs into an error and returns you to the given page. In cases like this, the refresh button actually works well in re-submitting the request, but I can't rely on it. I'm doing some ad-hoc testing in the browser that I'd like to make a bit more repeatable, and eventually move to a unit test using Django's mock client. Is there an extension, or some convenient method to stash requests for later re-submission. The goal: I resubmit the request, tweak the code, eyeball the results, rinse and repeat. Three days later I can come back to it an try it again to make sure it's still working. The closest thing I can think of in this case is simply recording my activity with Selenium ide and replaying it.

  Basically I need to find all elements on the page that have a scrollbar (vertical or horizontal) How to tell if an element has a scrollbar and can actually be scrolled? I found this code snippet on jsperf. Is it possible to capture the logic behind the code into and XPath expression? Or are there any other ways to check for scrollbars? Added: Just to explain what I'm trying to do: I'm developing extension for Firefox. Basically it introduces Vim-style mouseless shortcuts (I know there is Vimperator and Pentadactyl...). One of the features I'd like to implement is to allow the use to select the container that's scrolled with j/k keys. That's why I need to discover all scrollable elements on any given random page.

• Get last element of pipeline in powershell

  Hi, This might be weird, but stay with me. I want to get only the last element of a piped result to be assigned to a varaiable. I know how I would do this in "regular" code of course, but since this must be a one-liner. More specifically, I'm interested in getting the file extension when getting the result from an FTP request ListDirectoryDetails. Since this is done within a string expansion, I can't figure out the proper code. Currently I'm getting the last 3 hars, but that is real nasty. • Is there a shorthand version of HTML available?

  I remember reading an article about a shorthand version, or extension, of HTML a few months ago. Its purpose was to make HTML code significantly more concise, by removing end tags, and it may have allowed loops of some sort as well. I want to use it now, but I can't seem to remember what it was called. Searching online, I found HAML, but HAML syntax doesn't look like the example that I remember from the article. The syntax from the article made use of right angle brackets, which were a sort of replacement for indentation. Can anyone identify this language?

• Cannot customize Solution Explorer project context menu in VS 2010

  I'm trying to customize that context menu which comes up when you right click the project in the Solution Explorer. When I goto: Tools - Customize - Commands - Context Menu (radio button) - Project and Solution Context Menus | Project (drop down) I get nothing in the "controls:" list. I can modify other context menus starting with "Project and Solution Context Menus" but none of them is the right one. Any ideas? Currently I have ReSharper, PowerTools and StyleCop installed, but I have installed and uninstalled bunch of other addins (dotTrace, CodeIt.Right, VisualHG, DevExpress, random stuff from Extension Manager).

• LinqToSql: How can I create a projection to adhere to DRY?

  Just wondering if there is a way to take some of the repitition out of a LINQ to SQL projected type. Example: Table: Address Fields: AddressID, HouseNumber, Street, City, State, Zip, +20 more Class MyAddress: AddressID, HouseNumber, Street (Only 3 fields) LINQ: from a in db.Addresses select new MyAddress { AddressID = a.AddressID, HouseNumber = a.HouseNumber, Street = a.Street } The above query works perfectly, and I understand why something like this will return all 20+ fields in each row: from a in db.Addresses select new MyAddress(a); class MyAddress { public MyAddress(Address a) { this.AddressID = a.AddressID, this.HouseNumber = a.HouseNumber, this.Street = a.Street } } Which leads me to my Question: Is it possible to implement some kind of helper function or extension method to "map" from the LINQ model to MyAddress yet only return the necessary fields in the query result rather than all of the fields?

• How can I execute a bunch of editor commands stored in a file in VIM?

I have some editor commands that I generated from an SQL query. It uses :s/foo/bar to change country codes (from FIPS to a non-standard code set). Here's a sample of the file: :s/CB/CAMBO :s/CQ/NMARI :s/KV/KOSOV :s/PP/PAPUA ... I have saved that in a file called fipsToNonStd.vim (unsure about the correct extension). I want to run those commands one after another. What's the easiest way to do so? Thanks a bunch! SO Rocks!

  In Visual Studio, I have an XML file (with .xml extension) which contains an XML fragment that I use in my program: <tag1> data ... </tag1> <tag2> data ... </tag2> Visual Studio shows me an error in the error list: "XML document cannot contain multiple root level elements". But this is not a complete document, just a fragment that will be reused. I want to keep my 2 roots in my fragment. How can I get rid of the error message? Thanks

  Hello, I have a program that is executed by another program. The program that is being executed needs files located at its own location [same folder]. If I call myfile.open("xpo.dll") I might get an error because I am not passing the [fullpath + name + extension]. The program that is being executed can vary paths depending on the installation path. Therefore, I was wondering if there is a way to get the application path [where the application is located] and set it so that when another program executes from another path everything might work properly...?   What's the best practise when adapting C-style functions which return a true/false to Java? Here's a simple method to illustrate where the problem lies. public static boolean fileNameEndsWithExtension( String filename, String fileExtension) { return filename.endsWith( fileExtension ); } Note that there's probably a more elegant way of filtering files (feel free to comment on this). Anyway, if filename is a null value, does one: Return a false if filename is null? If so, how does one go about distinguishing between the case where filename is null and the case where the String or file name doesn't end with a given file extension? Change the return type to the wrapper class Boolean which allows a null value. Throw an Exception and force the programmer to make sure that a null value is never passed to the method? Use another solution?

• How do I get the Mac OS X 'quick look' feature to be more programmer-friendly?

  There are numerous text files that are always included in common downloads such as rails plugins: LICENSE, ChangeLog, Rakefile, etc. I know these files are plain-text, but Mac OS X refuses to acknowledge this automatically. If I hit the spacebar in Finder to activate "quick look", the icon becomes huge but the contents of the file are not shown, presumably because they have no file extension. How do I stop this madness so I can quickly look at READMEs just by hitting the spacebar? I've already got a ton of text editors installed on my mac: this question is purely about efficiency and making simple files accessible as quickly as possible.

• Selenium: How to click an HTML button element?

  I have button on the page that being used as a link to another page. So when the user clicks the button they are redirected to the right page. I am using the Selenium extension for PHPUnit and I would like to test that the button is correctly redirecting the user. Here is the HTML that I am trying to test: <button onclick="window.location='/sponsor';" value="Continue" type="button" id="sponsorContinue" name="sponsorContinue">Continue</button> I have tried a lot of different approaches to click the button, but I can't seem to get any of them to work: $this->click("//button[@id='sponsorContinue']"); This command executes and does not throw any errors, but the page isn't redirected. It works fine when I manually click the button. What should I do?

• Workaround for PHP SOAP request failure when wsdl defines service port binding as https and port 80?

  I am consuming a SOAP web service using php5's soap extension. The service' wsdl was generated using Axis java2wsdl, and whatever options are used during generation result in the port binding url being listed as https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx**:80** If I download the wsdl to my server, remove the port 80 specification from the port binding location value, and reference the local file in my soapclient call it works fine. However, if I try to reference it remotely (or download it and reference it locally, as-is) the call fails with a soap fault. I have no input into the service side so I can't make them change their wsdl-generation process. So, unless there's a way to make the soapclient ignorant of the port, I'm stuck with using a locally modified copy of someone else' wsdl (which I'd rather not do). Any thoughts on how to make my soapclient ignore the port 80?

• how do you load files in windows phone 7?

  do you seriously have to make your own content pipeline project for every single type of file you want to load? Microsoft just seem to be pretending that the iphone doesn't exist (even though they are now paying devs to port between them). I'm trying to port my game from the iphone to winmo7, and I already have a nice asset pipeline set up for exporting textures in the exact format we want (16 bit fmts ect) I just want to be able to open a file and read it, just like I would on any other platform. I have tried System.IO.File.OpenText("atextfile.txt"), but it says that function is "RESTRICTED!!!!" I have tried just adding the txt file to the content project, setting its properties to "content" and "copy always" and then trying to open it doing this.Content.Load("atextfile.txt"); with and without the extension, says it can't find the file.
