• Unit Tests in Visual Studio 2010

  Hi, i am trying to create a Unit test for a WinForm in a Visual Studio 2010 project. I add a new "Coded UI Test" to my project, open up the code file, then right click and select "Generate Code for Coded UI Test" - "Use Coded UI Test builder". I then start my application up, select "Record" on the UI Map control. I run my tests (in this case simply select a textbox, type in a random value, them click a button). I then select "Generate Code" from the UI Map control which generates the code which the test will use. When running this test, i get the error: Test method HelloWorldTest.CodedUITest1.CodedUITestMethod1 threw exception: Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UITest.Extension.UITestControlNotFoundException: The playback failed to find the control with the given search properties. Additional Details: TechnologyName: 'MSAA' ControlType: 'Window' Name: 'Form1' ClassName: 'WindowsForms10.Window' --- System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component. • APNS: Not receving any feedback for registerForRemoteNotificationTypes: neither +/-

  Hi, I have been trying to use the default code in the iPhone APNS documentation to generate a device token using registerForRemoteNotificationTypes() but without succes. Neither the didRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithDeviceToken or the didFailToRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithError is called. I had placed a UIAlert in both these methods- both did not appear. My iPhone is acceesing APNS using Wi/Fi using DHCP.(& am able to browse ) Is there any other setting that needs to to be done to genrate a device token? can someone post a working code which can be used to generate device token? • Ubuntu 9.10 and Squid 2.7 Transparent Proxy TCP_DENIED

  Hi, We've spent the last two days trying to get squid 2.7 to work with ubuntu 9.10. The computer running ubuntu has two network interfaces: eth0 and eth1 with dhcp running on eth1. Both interfaces have static ip's, eth0 is connected to the Internet and eth1 is connected to our LAN. We have followed literally dozens of different tutorials with no success.   I developed a Windows service using C#.NET to generate PDF report. To generate PDF file I am using a third party dll. The application is running in my Windows XP platform. When I deployed the service in Windows Server 2008 64 bit version, I got this error: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {46521B1F-0A5B-4871-A4C2-FD5C9276F4C6} failed due to the following error: 80040154. I registered the DLL using the regsvr32 command. I able to see this CLSID in the registry. But the problem persists. What could be the problem?

  Id like to use PDFBox to generate PDF highlight files in my .net project. PDFBox states that it can be used in .net via IKVM http://www.pdfbox.org/userguide/dot_net.html BUT running ikvmc (latest version) to generate the DLLs on PDFBOX.1.0.0.jar generates a whole lot of NoClassDefFound warnings. How should I fix this, and what other DLLs do I need to include in my project? Test data is generated into this array. fft transforms this array into frequency domain. Trying to understand relationship between freq, period, sample rate and position in fft array. I'll illustrate with examples: ======================================== Sample rate is 1000 samples/s. Generate a set of samples at 10Hz. Input array has peak values at arr(28), arr(128), arr(228) ... period = 100 sample points peak value in fft array is at index 6 (excluding a huge value at 0) ======================================== Sample rate is 8000 samples/s Generate set of samples at 440Hz Input array peak values include arr(7), arr(25), arr(43), arr(61) ... period = 18 sample points peak value in fft array is at index 29 (excluding a huge value at 0) ======================================== How do I relate the index of the peak in the fft array to frequency ?

  hi all, hope that everybody here is OK. We are using VS 2008 as development tool, TFS 2008 as version control as well as build automation. Some of our developer use dbpro for databases changes and some use SQL Server management studio. I am trying to automate build for Web Application built using C# and VB.Net. Our scenario is such that we have a central database to which our web application connects. Whenever we supply our clients with a new functionality or a bug fix, we supply them incremental builds. The SQL script is checked into source control for every incremental build when they have made and tested there changes on our central DB Server. I want to generate Differential script that can be run at the client as an incremental update script. Now to come about it is a problem. Sometimes our developers tend to forget the database change-sets and the script in the source control is missing an SP or a two. Also, sometimes we need to insert default data into some of the tables that have strict stringent values and not test values. Like a table that contains Services provided by the panel, we add a new service name, signature, credentials and service address, etc etc in the ServiceTable. Besides this many other tables may have test data that may not be needed. If we use DataCompare, it will generate changeset for required data (important for client to enable certain services) and our test data that was added to the database as a result of our testing of the functionality or bug fix. Currently i am using SQLSchemaCompareTask (from Visual Studio 2008 Team Database Professional Power Tools API) in the TFSBuild.proj file of the build definition for TFS 2008. Using SQLSchemaCompareTask, the script generated contains database names like [dbo]. etc which are not desired as the script fails when run against SQL Server 2000 databses (Some of our client still use SQL Server 2000) databases as teh backend of the application. Also default data can't be generated by this process. To overcome this problem, i have to come up with a solution that can compare databases and generate script automatically that does not have to be manually reviewed again before being sent to the client. Please suggest effective methodology of such SQL script generation and suggest whether two different databases may be used or something ? Is there any toolkit or api that can enable build automation for SQL Server databases? Thank you all. Regards Steve

  I have a User table which has a PrivilegeId foreign key points to a Privilege table and is the primary key there. In Entity Framework, the VS will not generate a PrivilegeId variable under Users for you. It will generate a Privilege property and PrivilegeReference property for you instead. When I load a User, the Privilege property is null by default. That means EF does not load refered entity for you automatically. I think I may did something wrong? I cannot load Privilege separatedly because I have no info about the Privilege at that time. I guess EF should load the refered entities for me but I missed something. anybody can help me?

For models, a railroad-generated class diagram shows attributes of each model and the associations between one model and another. A sample diagram can be found here. It is very useful for a developer to see attributes and associations of models. While attributes and associations reveal the inner states and relationships of models, methods specify their behaviours. They are all desirable in a class diagram. I would like railroad to generate a class diagram that also lists methods for models, which will help me to know what each model does. I know methods are displayed in a diagram that is generated for controllers, but I don't see such an option for a diagram of models. Does someone know how to do that with railroad?   We are trying to generate MS Excel workbook using OOXML and populate data using SSIS. We are able to generate Workbook and sheets, also able to create columns and insert data in Header cell. We can also populate data using SSIS. But the Sheet (DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Sheet) and all cells (DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Cell) becomes OpenXmlUnknownElement. So we are not able to read sheet / cell using following Code. Sheet sheet = workbookPart.Workbook.Descendants().Where(s = s.Name == "Sheet1").SingleOrDefault(); We are able to read the same file if we first open it using MS Excel and save.

• A question about "empty" lists in Python

  I've started teaching myself Python, and as an exercise I've set myself the task of generating lookup tables I need for another project. I need to generate a list of 256 elements in which each element is the value of math.sin(2pi/256). The problem is I don't know how to generate a list initialized to "dummy" values that I can then use a for loop to step through and assign the values of the sin function. Using list[] seems to create an "empty" list, but with no elements so I get a "list assignment index out of range" error in the loop. Is there a way to this other than explicitly creating a list declaration containing 256 elements all with "0" as a value? Thanks!

• WSIT, Maven, and wsimport -- Can They Work Together?

  Hi all, I'm working on a small-ish multi-module project in Maven. We've separated the UI from the database layer using Web Services, and thanks to the jaxws-maven-plugin, the creation of the WSDL and WS client are more or less handled for us. (The plugin is essentially a wrapper around wsgen and wsimport.) So far so good. The problem comes when I try to layer WSIT security into the picture. NetBeans allows me to generate the security metadata easily, but wsimport seems completely incapable of dealing with anything beyond a Basic-auth level of security. Nothing, however, seems to change the composition of the wsimport-generated files at all. So I guess my question here is, to get a WSIT-compliant client, am I stuck abandoning Maven and the jaxws plugin altogether? Is there a way to get a WSIT client to auto-generate? Or will I need to generate the client by hand? Let me know if you need any additional info beyond what I've written here. I'm deploying to Tomcat, although that doesn't seem to be an issue, as Maven seems happy to pull Metro into the deployed WAR file. Thanks in advance!

  I'm interested in using Functional MetaPost on Mac OS X: http://cryp.to/funcmp/ I'm looking for a tutorial like: http://haskell.org/haskellwiki/Haskell_in_5_steps but for a trivial FuncMP example, i.e. using GHC, I can compile something simple such as: import FMP myPicture = text "blah" main = generate "foo" 1 myPicture but I can't figure out how to view this foo.1.mp output. (It gives a runtime error about not finding 'virmp'; my MetaPost binary is 'mpost'; I can't figure out how to override this Parameter or what my .FunMP file is or should be doing...) I can run mpost on that but the output (foo.1.1) is what, PostScript? EPS? How do I use this? (I imagine I just need a simple LaTeX file with an EPS figure in it or something...) Preferably, I'd like to generate output (.ps or .pdf that I can view) so I an actually get somewhere with Functional MetaPost, learning it, playing with it, not banging my head against paths and binaries and shell commands.

  A legacy web application written using PHP and utilizing MySql database needs to be rewritten completely. However, the existing database structure must not be changed at all. I'm looking for suggestions on which framework would be most suitable for this task? Language candidates are Python, PHP, Ruby and Java. According to many sources it might be challenging to utilize rails effectively with existing database. Also I have not found a way to automatically generate models out of the database. With Django it's very easy to generate models automatically. However I'd appreciate first hand experience on its suitability to work with legacy DBs. Also I appreciate suggestions of other frameworks worth considering.

At the moment my steps are: execute first code generation plugin (during generate-sources) add directory of generated types to build path execute second code generation plugin (during compile) However my problem is that anything generated by the second code generation plugin will not be compiled (because the compile phase has finished). If I attach the second code generation plugin to an earlier phase, it fails because it needs the classes from the first code generation plugin to be present on the classpath. I know I could split this into two modules with one dependent on the other, but I was wondering if this could be achieved in one pom. It seems like a need a way to invoke compile again after the normal compile phase is complete. Any ideas?

• Linux networking crash: best steps to find out the cause?

  One of our Linux (CentOS) servers was unreachable last night. The server was not reachable in any way except for the remote console. After logging in with the remote console, it turned out I could not ping any outside hosts either. A simple service network restart solved the issue, but I am still wondering what could have caused this. My log files seem to indicate no error at all (except for the various daemons that need a network connection and failed after the network failure). Are there any additional steps I can take to find out the cause of this problem? EDIT: this just happened again. The server was completely unresponsive until I issued a networking service restart. Any advise is welcome. Could this be caused by a faulty hardware component?   I have a system with a potentially broken disk, but the disk passes all manner of diagnostics. I have been unable to confirm that the disk is broken. What are my options? I could just replace the disk, but because this situation is very similar to another more severe situation I have (long story), I'd like to actually make a proper diagnosis as opposed to randomly binning hardware. The issue and history is this: I had a Debian Linux PC (500 MHz P3) acting as router, nagios and munin. It crashed every couple of weeks. No logs or dmesg could be obtained (because it's an old Compaq that only boots when you configure it as keyboardless, making connecting a keyboard later, once it's booted, impossible). At the time, I just replaced the computer with another Compaq (P4 2.4 GHz) because I thought the hardware was faulty. However, it still crashed every couple of weeks. the difference is that on this computer, I can still SSH into it. It gives all kinds of errors on hda. I'd like to confirm that the disk is broken, but nothing I do confirms this: SMART error logs shows no errors. Normally when a disk starts acting up, SMART my pass, but it still records a read-error in the error log. SMART self-test (smartctl -t long /dev/sda) completes without errors. re-allocated sector count (a tell-tale parameter) has been 31 all its life, even when the disk was still in use in my desktop PC years ago, and it still is. The figure never changed. dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/null bs=4096 passes with flying colors. What else can I do to assess the health of the drive? Again, this is not about making this router fully functional again, this is a disk forensic question, because it just so happens that I have another server that potentially has the same problem, and knowing the answer to this will possibly help me greatly.
