• Word 2003: Bullet style renamed; is there some way to reverse this?

  I have a machine that seems to have had its bullet style permanently changed - I previously was creating a document which had a question/answer format, where the answers were bullet points, so I created a style for them. The problem is, it seems to have stuck. If you click the "Bullet" button, the paragraph is formatted in the style. I've tried deleting the style in Normal.dot, and even deleting the Normal.dot file in the entirely - neither seems to fix the problem. Anyone have any other bright ideas on how to fix it?

• How to prevent partial crash during VLAN configuration on a HP ProCurve 3500

  as you can see from my question, I have a VLAN configuration problem with a ProCurve3500. The goal is to remove a VLAN from the existing configuration, however when I use the WEB UI to do this, I cannot modify ports to be assigned to a different VLAN or the Default VLAN. I always get the message "config failed", which is not very helpful. When I try to do it over telnet, the router somehow partially crashes and somehow the utilization on all ports is at 100% and I can barely use the web ui. After a reboot everything is fine again, but the configuration was not changed... The traffic after this partial crash looks like a broadcast storm, however there are definitely no loops in the segment. I also updated to the latest stable firmware, but the problem persists.   I've got a site with many incoming links to the old structure (gone for years), with tonnes of URL vars that are no longer relevant, as the database mappings were changed. So, I'd like to redirect: http://www.mysite.com/oldfile.aspx?p=1&c=2 to: http://www.mysite.com/newfile.php without the query string at the end. The actual query string varies - there are hundreds of them, but since they don't match up to a particular case anymore, I want to take people to the new index page for the content they're looking for, so they can find it from there. I currently use: RedirectMatch 301 ^/oldfile\.aspx$ /newfile.php This puts the query back on the end though. Can someone let me know the voodoo recipe I need?

• Solution to time shifting requirement in Active Directory

  Hi, I currently have an active directory that has several child domains (consisting of nothing other than a DC and bespoke application servers) set-up for testing our CRM software, as some of it is date/time sensitive these have been set to dates in the future at some point in the past, which is causing replication errors. I'm working on getting rid of these child domains, but still have a requirement for our testers to be able to time shift. Does anyone know of any solutions that would allow our test environments to have their time changed (always forward), without affecting the production active directory? Is it as simple as creating a separate Forest on the same LAN or would that interfere with my production Forest? Thanks for any advice.

• How do I enable a disabled Event Notification.

  I have a scenerio where I am using external notification to process documents being sent in from the entire navy fleet, normally I have no problems, but just a few days ago an administrator changed passwords and I my queue processing failed and I rolled back the transaction with this C# code: catch (Exception) { TransporterService.WriteEventToWindowsLog(AppName, "Rolling Back Transaction:", ERROR); broker.Tran.Rollback(); break; } after which my target queue would continue to fill up but nothing to the external activation queue. Does the Event Notification get disabled once a transaction is rolled back? Should I have done a broker.EndDialog here when catching my exception? Also, after my event notification is disabled(if that is actually whats happening) how do I re engage it? Do I have to drop it and recreate it? Thank in advance for any help, I love Service Broker and its workign wonderfully except for this bug that I hope to fix soon.

• PHP fopen fails - does not have permission to open file in write mode

  I have an Apache 2.17 server running on a Fedora 13. I want to be able to create a file in a directory. I cannot do that. Whenever I try to open a file with php for writing fopen(,'w'), it tells me that I don't have permission to do that. So i checked the httpd.conf file in /etc/httpd/conf/. It says user apache, group apache. So I changed ownership (chown -R apache:apache .*) of my whole /www directory to apache:apache. I also run chmod -R 777 * Apart from knowing how terribly dangerous this is, it actually still gives me the same error, even though I even allow public write!

• Restoring permissions on Windows 2008

  I have played with folder permissions due to SVN not being able to write to a folder and now I got into a state where I go to any folder of C: drive in Windows Explorer and when I right-click it takes 30 seconds to show the context menu and it just hangs the window after that. It definitely has something to do with permissions as it was all working fine until I started tweaking permissions about an hour ago. My login belongs to two groups Users and Administrators. I changed ownership of C drive to Administrators group and I think it screwed everything, but I can't change it back because I don't even remember what it was :) Oh, and only Administrators group has access to drive C now. Any way to reset permissions to some previous state or some workable state?

  I am working with tomcat6 and HUDSON, when I run the hudson job it is running as tomcat6 user, what I want to know is there any way to change the HUDSON user as my system login user instead of tomcat6 so that I can run hudson job as my system user. I just want to know whether it is possible or not and why and how? I tired editing /etc/init.d/tomcat6 and changed tomcat6 user and grop as my login id, and the restarted the tomcat. Still the hudson jobs are running as tomcat6 user.Am i did the righ thing, if so why it is not working. Thanks in advance

• qemu/virt-manager no permisson on shared folder

  I have a strange problem. Iam trying to create a shared folder via the add-hardware-filesystem option. For Type and Modus i choose Passtrought and for Driver Path. The Source Path is /free and target is mytag. I mount it with: mount -t 9p -o trans=virtio mytag /mnt/test -oversion=9p2000.L Everything worked without problems. But when i enter /mnt/test and do a ls, i get "ls: Öffnen von Verzeichnis . nicht möglich: Keine Berechtigung" in english something like "ls: cant open folder . no permission" I set permissions of /free to 777 recursivly but nothing changed. Also tried some other modes in virt-manager but nothing changes. Do you have any clues, what i am doing wrong? The guest-os ist Ubuntu 12.04 and the host-os is Ubuntu 11.10 Thank you for your help.

  Background: I run a small computer lab of 10 computers using Windows 7 x64 Enterprise. Our users are set up as limited users. For additional restrictions, I set up local group policy for non-administrators using the microsoft management console. Problem: Recently, I found out that some of these restrictions had been removed. Reviewing the settings MMC and in ntuser.pol showed that the settings should still be in place. However, the related registry settings were missing in ntuser.dat. I already have registry editing disabled in the GPO (though not in silent mode). Question: What is the best way to deal with this situation? Should I look into preventing registry setting changes? Should I set up registry auditing to found out how these keys are getting changed in the first place? Or should I give up the ghost and write some kind of logon script that enforces registry values if they've been change? Any other ideas?

  I need to convert to PDF a Word document containing embedded vector EPS images (by printing to PDF printer - I use Word 2003). Several years ago I tested some of commercial and free PDF printers and found none, with except to Acrobat Distiller, which embeds in the generated PDF file real PostScript content of the EPS image instead of the preview showed by Word. Has the situation changed from that time? Do you know any free or commercial PDF printer which handles embedded EPS correctly? • Intel Rapid Storage Technology service always crashes

  I'm running Windows 7 x64 on a system based on an Asus Z87-Deluxe motherboard; the storage is configured for RAID mode; there is a single SSD drive for the O.S. and two 4-TB disks in a RAID 1 setup for the data. I've installed the latest version of Intel's Rapid Storage Technology drivers, 12.8.0.1016. The program complains about its service not being running, and the service is actually stopped; if I try to start it, it crashes. I've already tried reinstalling the package, but nothing changed. All the disks work correctly, but the RST program is unusable. How can I fix this?

• Acer Aspire 5719 with Windows XP does not boot

  Hi, I have an Acer Aspire 5710 which came pre-loaded with Windows Vista. O/S has been changed to Win SXP SP2 and was working fine till today. The laptop starts up and then hangs (does not reach till the Windows screen). Have tried the following Repair with XP CD. Re-install with XP CD (In both cases the error "No hard disk" is displayed.) Tried F5/F8 to boot with other options. Guess the hard-disk is not being recognised. The 160 Gb SATA disk is shown as IDE0 in the Phoenix Bios. There is no floppy drive. Any suggestions. • When connected through a router, a new gateway appears, and I lose my internet connection.

  I have two computers connected to a router, connected to my ADSL modem by PPPoE. One of those computrs use Windows XP, the other uses Windows 7. The computer using Windows 7 keeps getting limited or no connectivity, and I can't use it to connect to the internet. Connecting the computer to the modem without the router 'in the way' worked, and I was able to use the internet - which led me to believe that the problem is with my router. However, I have changed my router, and the problem persists. (Just to be clear: the computer using Windows XP can connect to the internet without any problem). This entire question is about the PC using Windows 7. The only symptom of this problem is that when I see my network devices, in addition to my router (which appears as "Network 4", or something of the sort), I also see an "Unidentified Network". When using ipconfig to check the problem, I see a second gateway, with the IP 0.0.0.0, in addition to the IP of my router.

• How to use a custom Windows 7 system drive letter?

  The subject PC has many hard drive partitions dedicated for different purposes, C: being a Windows XP system drive and F: (which is actually the next primary partition placed right after C: physically) being intended to host a newly installed Windows 7 instance (meant for "dual boot" configuration). Needless to say the intention was all the partitions to have exactly the same letters under both OSes, needless to say Windows 7 has detected all of them in a completely different order which would not be a problem (as the non-system drives letters can be changed easily after installation) if it wouldn't have named it's system drive C: (meant to be F:), which I have no Idea how to change. Is there a way to set the letter you want? I don't mind reinstalling Windows 7 from scratch if it is to be set at installation time or even configured in some text files on the installation DVD. I have tried this way, but it renders the Windows 7 system desktop unbootable (gets stuck on "Preparing your desktop..." after "Welcome").

• Juniper J4350 out of order

  I have got two (2) Juniper routers J4350 that are out of order : All the interfaces are down (leds on the interfaces don't ligthen, ping dosen't respond) No output on the console port (even when booting) I've tried to reset the router (holding the RESET CONFIG button on the front panel during 15 seconds) and nothing happened, even while booting the device I've opened the router to check the fans. I've removed some dust and nothing has changed. I wanted to precise that the leds on the front panel are all on: The POWER led is green The STATUS led is red The ALARM led is on and is orange The HA (High Availablity) is on and orange as well I have found nothing on the Internet to solve this problem... • VMware ESXi 4 On-Disk Data Deduplication - possible and supported?

  Environment: We are running multiple web, database, and application servers which usually share a pretty common installation (gentoo linux) and similar configuration in VMware ESXi 4. The differences are usually only some installed features or differing component versions. To create a new server, I usually choose the most similar (by features) running server, rsync a copy of it into freshly mounted filesystems, run grub, reconfigure and reboot. Problem: Over time this duplicates many on-disk data blocks which probably sums up to several 10's of gigabytes. I suppose if I could use a base system as template with the actual machines based on top of that, only writing changed blocks to some sort of "diff image", performance should improve (increased cache hit rate) and storage efficiency should increase (deduplicated storage space). This would be similar to what ESXi already supports for RAM deduplication (page sharing). Question: Is there any way to easily do this on ESXi 4? I already share the portage tree via NFS but this would not work for the rootfs.

When installing software with the make install command under a unix machine, the default path is going over to /usr/local/bin. I would like to update a package system-wide under /usr/bin. How (and where) do I change the command under make or make install to /usr/bin? Also - Can the package remain on /usr/local/bin but the systemwide usage of Python (the update being installed) be changed to /usr/local/bin from /usr/bin to avoid modifying the original installed version ?

  Is it possible to create a ip whitelist for my nginx proxy server without adding allow or deny in the config file is it possible i can get nginx to link to a separate database to check if the user is allowed to access the website . Ideally i could do with nginx linking to an external database or at minimum a list off allowed ips on the same server so i can easily update the list whit out restarting nginx every time. In the future i would like to link nginx to my website and a user will login and there ip will be linked to there account and they will be able to update there ip if it has changed to there new one to grant them access so i need to keep in mind that it would be easyer to do this if i have external list off ips in some kind off database any help is apreshiated

• Restore access to Cisco Connect after changing router settings

  I have recently bought Cisco Valet Plus (M20) wireless router (which I recognize now was a mistake, but nevermind). It has two setup options - Cisco Connect software and web-based setup. Cisco Connect software allows changing very small set of settings, web-based setup allows access to almost all settings, except settings for guest network. The problem is that when I use web-based setup, Cisco Connect after some changes refuses to talk to the router, so I can't change guest settings anymore (since web interface doesn't allow to change them). It must be because of some config parameter not matching or some password set wrong - but I don't know where Cisco Connect stores them. So, does anybody have any idea how to make Cisco Connect talk to the router again once I changed the settings through the web interface?

• Apache configuration to accept all data

  Hi, I have apache running on port 7979 to talk with a device that sends data to webserver and later will run php scripts to process and send reply xml. The problem now is that it sends data like POST HTTP/1.1 Content-Type:text/xml Content-Length:369 Followed by XML When apache sees this it gives a 400 error. Since the device cannot be changed is there any way to accept the full data sent from the device and write to some log? Currently apache simply keeps sending 400 errors back. If there was a way to log the entire xml or create some custom handler for 400 error then the xml could be read by a php script. Looking forward to solutions.

• Access is denied while moving a file from different volumes

  i have a portable 500GB HDD plugged into my dell xps system. The system have windows 7 professional edition. the problem is that when i try to open a file(visual studio .sln file) it is saying that access is denied. I cannot copy this file to a different location(within my local HDD) it is saying that i need permission for the task to complete.   I think I've messed something up. When I try the following commands I always get “: No such file or directory“. $ git stash list : No such file or directory $ git log : No such file or directory $ git diff : No such file or directory I tried reinstalling git and updated to mountain lion, searched in my .bash_profile and .bashrc, but nothing changed. I hope you can help me fix it. There is another problem. I don't know if this is related. For each blank line in my .bash_profile I get a : command not found. I commented them out and was fine.

• Sharing a wifi connection between different user profiles on Windows XP

  I've set-up two separate user profiles on an old laptop running Windows-XP, and noted the following strange behaviour. When the wireless network is setup using WEP both user profiles can connect to the internet and I can switch between user profiles, without network connectivity issues. However when I changed the wireless security to WPA2, the first user to connect gets access to the internet, when switching to the second profile the connection fails. The behaviour is the same regardless of which of the two profiles logs on first. I also tried this with one user with admin rights and one without, and got the same result. I'm not too concerned about a fix for this other than forcing the users to log-off when sharing the laptop, but I'd be interested to know if anyone can corroborate my findings. The network config was done using Intel® PROSet/Wireless.
