  • Proxy settings: Allowed hosts instead of ignored hosts

    I'm using Ubuntu, as many proxy applications, GNOME Network Proxy Preferences only allow to ignore hosts. What I want to do is exactly the opposite. I only want to use the proxy for few sites. Is it possible to define only the allowed hosts in any way? PS: I know FoxyProxy add-on for Firefox does this, but 1)I don't use Firefox and 2)I want the proxy settings system wide not only for browser.

  • Why is my Quicktime plugin transport bar black?

    For some reason when watching quicktime moves in firefox the transport bar is completely black. I can still use it to fast forward and rewind but I can't actually see any of the buttons. Any clue how to fix this? I've updated to the latest version of quicktime but it didn't help. I've also verified that this behavior is the same in both firefox and chrome.

    So, I'm kind of falling in love with Safari 4 (sorry, Firefox). However, I'm the type who likes my browser cache. Doing a little bit of Googling, it seems Safari does have an offline mode like Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera (where you can view cached web pages offline), but I haven't found any way to activate it and just navigating to web pages with no net connection seems not to do it either. So, does Safari even really have an offline mode, and if so, how does one use it?

  • How to make Chrome spell check the whole text field?

    On Firefox, whenever a word is incorrect in a text field, it is underlined in red. Chrome does the same but the difference is that it underlines in red only when I move the caret over the word. So if I want to spell check the whole text field, I have to move the caret from the beginning to the end of the text field. Is it possible to make Chrome works more like Firefox and spell check the entire text field automatically?

  • Surfing the internet while downloading becomes painful

    When I try to surf the internet while downloading files (http based, torrent etc.), it becomes painful to open web pages since download traffic is mostly allocated for downloads. Is there a program that can manage this process so that when I surf the weight will be given to internet browser, and when the browser is idle, the weight will be on the download side? I'm using Firefox 3.6.2 on Win7, so any good Firefox addons or Windows based freewares are acceptable.

    I currently use Google Bookmarks via the Google toolbar plug-in for Firefox. I find this extremely useful as it allows me to have roaming bookmarks rather than having to maintain bookmarks on individual machines and also restore them when rebuilding a machine. Is there currently any way to use Google Bookmarks in Chrome? This is the one thing I'm waiting for that is preventing me from switching from Firefox to Chrome.

For instance, if I have a single instance of Firefox running, but it's minimized (or there's some other window on top of it).   • Cause for bad font rendering in Chrome?

    I notice that the text on some web pages look bad when viewed in Chrome (16.0.912.77 m) while OK with Firefox (10.0). FWIW, I'm using the Windows versions of those applications, with default settings. As an (ironic) example, www.google.com/webfonts. It works good in firefox, i can see my website template is looks good, but in internet explorer it is not working properly, i can't see my webpage has text and images and every content in bad style. Like images are not loading, may be css is not working. Please help me to sort out this problem. Before this i was running my website on apache with different ip address and moved to nginx.     If I understand correctly, the Tor client works as a combination of a proxy server and application plugins (such as the Firefox Torbutton) that enable use of the proxy and contain additional application-specific privacy features (such as suppressing cookies, sandboxing JavaScript, turning off Flash). That works very well with applications that support it (such as Firefox). But is there a way to establish a VPN over Tor, so that my whole Wifi network can be protected, including applications that do not support proxy configuration and devices like iPod touches?

  • ubuntu mount iso but some files are unreadable

    I'm new to Linux and just installed ubuntu 12.04 amd64 this month. I had failed installing Texlive with texlive2012 iso image. I used the recommended command to mount: "mount -t iso9660 -o ro,loop,noauto /your/texlive2012.iso /mnt " But the installer failed to read some file. The iso is fine, I checked the md5. I extracted everything from iso with archive manager, and it installed successfully. So, why mount is not working? Thanks. UPDATE with furius iso mount tool, mount with Fuse, and it installed, with warning: Summary of warning messages during installation: Downloaded ./archive/calligra-type1.tar.xz, size equal, but md5sum differs; downloading again. While mount with Loop, it failed to install.
