• How to save state of the app when app terminates?

  Hi guys. I am trying to save the app state by encoding when the app terminates. I've found the solution related this issue. But I don't know how to use.   I am trying to call up a modal table view controller using presentModalViewController but I am not sure what to do about the delegate. The following code gives me an error: MyRidesListView *controller = [[MyRidesListView alloc] init]; controller.delegate = self; [self presentModalViewController:controller animated:YES]; [controller release]; Error: Request for member 'delegate' is something not a structure or union Now, I realized there is no delegate property in my MyRidesListView class. So, how would I add a reference to my delegate there? What am I missing here?

  I have a managed object with a dueDate attribute. The exception is thrown before either controller:didChangeObject:atIndexPath:forChangeType:newIndex or controller:didChangeSection:atIndex:forChangeType are called. At this point I'm stuck. If I change my sectionNameKeyPath to just "dueDate" then everything works fine. I think that's because the dueDate attribute never changes whereas the category will be different when read back after the finishedDate attribute changes. Please help! • How should I build a simple database package for my python application?

  I'm building a database library for my application using sqlite3 as the base. I want to structure it like so: db/ __init__.py users.py blah.py etc.py So I would do this in Python: import db db.users.create('username', 'password') I'm suffering analysis paralysis (oh no!) about how to handle the database connection. I don't really want to use classes in these modules, it doesn't really seem appropriate to be able to create a bunch of "users" objects that can all manipulate the same database in the same ways -- so inheriting a connection is a no-go. Should I have one global connection to the database that all the modules use, and then put this in each module: #users.py from db_stuff import connection Or should I create a new connection for each module and keep that alive? Or should I create a new connection for every transaction? How are these database connections supposed to be used? The same goes for cursor objects: Do I create a new cursor for each transaction? Create just one for each database connection?

• Grouped UITableView's cell separator missing when setting backgroundView with an image

  I have a grouped UITableView with a custom UITableViewCell class and I am adding a custom background image to each cell. However, when I do this, the cell's separator is not visible. If simply switch the table style to Plain instead of Grouped, the separator is showing up. I need the grouped table - how do I make the separator show up? • What's a good place to unregister an observer from the notification center?

  When I add an observer to the default notification center, where would I unregister that? Example: I have a UIView subclass which lives inside a view controller. That subclass is an observer for the FooBarNotification. If this notification is posted, that view will get it. But now, the view controller decides to throw away the view. Is the best place the -dealloc method of the view itself? Are there any rules like memory management rules? For example: Must I unregister an observer where I registered it? i.e. the view registers itself in it's init method, so it should unregister itself in it's -dealloc method? (not talking about push notifications, but NSNotificationCenter)

• Exception wrapping and HTML pages

  Hi, We have a sharepoint 2007 project at work. The exception handling policy is to log to the Sharepoint logs. In this case, would the best approach be to call that method and then rethrow the exception higher up? Except if I rethrow it to be caught higher up, there is no other exception handling code so what would happen in this case? Also, if you are going to display a more friendly error to the user (which uses information in the exception object), then this would be a good use of exception wrapping. Would it be a good idea to make a custom aspx page and add these to customerrors, so that on init (not sure of the exact event), I can display exception info in the passed parameter on the page. However, a static html page can't do this so I don't see the point in wrapping exceptions (unless there is a page or alert which uses the exception object). So if a project uses html pages for errors, is there a point in wrapping exceptions? Thanks

Release should be called since alloc was called, right? If #1 is right, then I would need to store a reference to each of these in an instance variable in order to release them in the dealloc? I created the class, then laid out the small view in IB (it's just a few labels that i will later need to add data to ). but now im stuck on how to actually put an instance of it in my main view.   I am developing a Python module with several source files, each with its own test class derived from unittest right in the source. Consider the directory structure: dirFoo\ test.py dirBar\ __init__.py Foo.py Bar.py To test either Foo.py or Bar.py, I would add this at the end of the Foo.py and Bar.py source files: if __name__ == "__main__": unittest.main() And run Python on either source, i.e. $ python Foo.py ........... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ran 11 tests in 2.314s OK Ideally, I would have "test.py" automagically search dirBar for any unittest derived classes and make one call to "unittest.main()". What's the best way to do this in practice? I tried using Python to call execfile for every *.py file in dirBar, which runs once for the first .py file found & exits the calling test.py, plus then I have to duplicate my code by adding unittest.main() in every source file--which violates DRY principles.

• Should I be using abstract methods in this Python scenario?

  I'm not sure my approach is good design and I'm hoping I can get a tip. I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of an abstract method, but in this case I want the method to be optional.   I am managing a quite large python code base (2000 lines) that I want anyway to be available as a single runnable python script. So I am searching for a method or a tool to merge a development folder, made of different python files into a single running script. The thing/method I am searching for should take code split into different files, maybe with a starting __init___.py file that contains the imports and merge it into a single, big script. Much like a preprocessor. Best if a near-native way, better if I can anyway run from the dev folder. I have already checked out pypp and pypreprocessor but they don't seem to take the point. Something like a strange use of __import__() or maybe a bunch of from foo import * replaced by the preprocessor with the code? Obviously I only want to merge my directory and not common libraries.

• How does Rails Plugin Storage work?

  Trying to figure out how to install rails plugins manually on windows so I have a few questions. What does the directory need to be named in vendor/plugins? Is it arbitrary or is it linked to something within the plugin config files or is that what you set in the environment.rb? Once I've copied the files to the correct directory, do I always need to run something inside like init.rb or is it good to go? What's the difference between 'require' and 'include'? Thanks!
