• Windows 7 Change internet time settings tells me I have no permissions.

  LS, While trying to solve my computer clock always running ahead (even when on, not just on every boot), I apparently broke some security settings. All I did (as far as I can remember) was stop and start the w32time service. Now, whenever I go to the "Internet time" tab, and click "Change settings..." Windows tells me I don't have permissions to do so. Facts I am a member of the Administrators group. In gpedit.msc, I checked that the Administrators group is allowed to change the system time. • Can I be a wireless server WITHOUT offering internet?

  I would like to pull into a truck stop and offer a folder of free documentaries to quell some of the ignorance LOL I run Linux ";-) Very happy to have made that switch by the way...and have an internal wireless in the laptop but my bus has an antenna on the roof which I connect via usb to create a wireless signal (this is the one I'd like to focus on since it will offer the most reach to all those truckers out there. My question is this. I'm running apache2 and have a bunch of videos tossed into the www folder and can access it locally and would like others that frown on paying to use the truckstops slow internet service and would like an alternative by simply logging onto me and getting the narrow content I offer freely without passwords and the like. Has anyone a good means of doing this? p.s. I've done this in the past but am getting old and forgetful (my crutch)

• I cannot access my mongodb from internet ,Anybody can help me?

  I am using Mongodb database ,which is installed in my ubuntu with the ip address 126.22.252.25. The ubuntu version info is Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS. My mongodb use the default 27017 port .On this local machine , I can use command "mongo --host 126.22.252.25" on the local machine to access, but I cannot use this command on any other linux mathine to access the db,nor can I use "telnet 126.22.252.25 27017" on my windows machine.I am sure 126.22.252.25 machine is accessable from internet because I can use winSCP and secureCRT to login to it.I run command "netstat -tnlp" , it shows below: tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:27017 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN I have already change the /ect/mongodb.conf file , modifying bind_ip parameter from 0.0.0.0 to 126.22.252.25 So ,anyone can help me?

  Sometimes I see an "Error on page" icon in the lower left part of Internet Explorer (e.g. version 7.0). When I click on this icon a popup-box show some error information (I do not know if the error always is an javascript error or what to be called). The popup-box can not be resized and the text cannot be copied (e.g. for use in a error report). Does anyone knows how to retrieve the information so in can be copied and used elsewhere? Maybe someone has developed a tool to do that.

  I am setting up a virtual machine using Microsoft Virtual PC in Windows 7. The VM will run a Windows XP. I want to set up a public-facing server in it for web pages, subversion and other things, and instruct the router to port forward any requests to that Virtual Machine. I managed to do that - I assigned the VM to the network adapter, and it is now acting as just another DHCP client - but to increase security I would like to block the VM from the rest of the LAN, so it accepts only incoming connections from the Internet. For this to be effective in case of a compromise, it would have to happen on VM level as far as I can see. Can this be done?

  This is a theoretical problem I am curious about. Websites are hosted on servers. Servers can be taken offline. Is it possible to host a website in the 'ether' of the Internet -- not on a server -- so that it cannot be taken down? One example, is that the website is hosted on other websites, like a parasite. Another is that it is assembled through storing pieces on DNS machines, routers, etc., so that it get assembled on the fly. The purpose is that this website could live forever because no one person can remove it. The answers I am looking for are plausible idea/approaches on technically how this could be built.

• Coffeeshop limits Internet connection to 30 minutes -- how does it recognize me if I delete my cooki

  I was connected to the Internet in a coffeeshop earlier today, but I was only allowed 30 minutes of access. I tried deleting my cookies after my time was up (though admittedly I didn't delete my Flash cookies -- would that have solved the problem?), but the connection still recognized that I'd already used 30 minutes, so I couldn't connect again. How did the connection recognize me still? The wireless was unprotected (no code or password), it just had a portal you had to pass through upon the initial connection. I'm not terribly familiar with web development or computer networks, so just trying to get a better idea of what's happening (and possibly to know what to do next time I use up my minutes =)).

• I can't work locally unless connected to the internet - how to fix?

  Hi, In Firefox, when I am disconnected from the net, I want to work locally on my local IIS server (Win XP, Firefox 3.5.10). I do NOT have Work Offline checked but FF says that it cannot find my site (ie. the message from FF if you try to access an online site offline) This applies to any localhost URL. I tried 127.0.0.1 and checked my Host file - that does not work either. If I check Work Offline then it shows the Firefox message that it cannot be reached because I have Work Offline checked. Unchecking it does not help. Then - I load up Safari, copy and paste the URL into that browser and it connects to my development localhost site. It is not just browser caching as I can log in etc. So Firefox will not let me develop locally unless I am connected to the internet, which is a problem. Suggestions please?

  Exactly as the title says; I don't mind which browser, I just want to type "https://........" and see the page normally without any certificate error, knowing that I might risk myself by allowing an invalid certificate! • No Internet access while being connected to VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.

  Hi, I have an access to corporate VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.0.00:0340, but when I'm connected to it, I don't have an Internet access. I'm using Windows XP SP3. As it was suggested here http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=209167 , I tried to enable "Allow local LAN Access" but it doesn't work. I also tried a second solution - deleting entry using "route" command, but it didn't help. I used "route delete 192.168.100.222". It's a third day of my attempts to solve this issue and I don't have an idea what else to do. I'm not very experienced in VPN stuff, but I know something about networking. Basing on my knowledge, I think that it's theoretically possible to achieve Internet access using my local network and only corporate stuff to be routed using VPN connection. I think that theoretically this should look like this: every IP being inside by corporation - VPN interface IP every other IP - my ethernet interface I've tried many possibilities of how to change those routes, but neither of them work. I'd really appreciate any help.   For a while now I've been using the Wireless in my Mac Mini as a seperate WiFi access point because my main router doesn't quite cover my whole house. There is a dedicated CAT 5E line down to the Mini, which has a static IP address. I've turned Internet Sharing on, using Airport/WiFi but it seems my options for security are limited. Can I do WPA2? Also, it seems like my iPhone only connects 25% of the time, and the rest of the time it claims I've given a bad password. I've tried "Forget this network" repeatedly.

No one wants a 20 GB file to fail a MD5 check after spending two days downloading it. Is there anything that meets all these requirements?

  On Mac OS X, when I run Firefox (and Thunderbird, and ...) which I downloaded from Mozilla, the OS pops up a warning that the file was downloaded over the internet, giving the date on which it was downloaded. I have no problem with that warning on the first time I use a downloaded application - but the repeated warnings are a nuisance. Is there a way to suppress that dialogue box? Is there a way to avoid it appearing in the first place? (Some applications I download from a corporate intranet - those don't produce the equivalent warning; any idea what the criteria are for when the warning is generated?)

  I did this regularly a few years ago and used to feel like I was 'being punished' by the Interent svc provider for disabling access to my computer, because trying to re-connect the next day became a constant pain. I have the same linksys router, a comcast modem, and hi-speed broadband through their LAN. Question: who or what is at fault for lousy internet connections, slow connections, or no connections: (everybody's tech dept. blames everybody else) The router? 10 year olds, maybe obsolete? The modem? came with the service plan - can connect three devices on a sharedconnection. The ISP: I read they not only even control and completely regulate bandwidth usage, but they also ration it!! (true?) So can I safely 'pull the plug' each night for security or not? thnx

  So the machine is behind a DSL router on a private IP so that it can not receive inbound requests. I want to know: Is there anyway to setup the router NAT (i highly doubt it supports one to one port mapping) without disturbing other users on the same router. I have another machine on internet which has public IP on it without any firewall. Can i use this machine as a relay server so that to initiate the connection, the XP machine send an outbound request and this relay server makes my connection through and then i can access my machine on pvt ip without any problem. I can copy files to /var/www successfuly using WINSCP but yet, i can not see any files when I connect to it using my windows machine in the browser. • Run a server and local wireless network off my laptop with no internet.

  I'm trying to run a wireless network from my computer so that people in range can connect to the network and hit a website running off my machine. I don't want to enable file sharing or remote access or anything else of that nature. I just want them to be able to connect to the network, type in an IP or domain name in a browser, and be taken to a locally hosted website. No broader internet access needed. • How can I find out what's uploading traffic to the internet?

  Some program I'm running is constantly uploading to the Internet. It's uploaded 300MB in the last few hours. I could reboot and see if it stops, but I'd prefer to find out what it is if possible. I've tried using the resource monitor but it's totally nonsensical - even if I run a broadband speedtest, it barely registers any traffic. Ideally I'd like to find a tool which can tell me the current bandwidth of each application. I think NetLimiter used to work on XP but it's not supported for Windows 7.

  I'm using an Internet Provider that requires a username and password to log in; the prompt shows up as soon as you open a web browser. Because of this, I can only have one device online at a time. How can I get my Time Capsule to essentially log in as the user and allow other devices to connect through it. My Time Capsule has worked with other ISPs that don't require the user log in, but I recently moved. I may be wrong about how the ISP is allowing access, I wasn't sure how to describe the problem. Server that i am running is CentOS 5.6 (Dell R310, RAID1) where i need to install alsa-sound driver so that anything related to audio recording from rtsp is working (rail station/rail passing video recording including audio, where audio is not working). Unfortunately i do not have any kind of internet in that odd none human location so yum will not work for me. I need a offline way to install alsa drivers including missing dependencies if arise.
