• Disabling identity (auto-incrementing) on integer primary key using code first

  I am using code first approach in a ASP.NET MVC 3 application and all integer primary keys in models (public int Id { get; set; }) are by default configured as an identity with auto-incrementing. How to disable this and enable a way to manually enter the integer for the primary key? The actual situation is that the Id integers have a special meaning and I would therefore like to have them choosable at creation and later editable. It would be ideal if in case the integer is not given at creation time it is auto-incremented, else the specified value is used. But editable primary fields is my primary need. Is there any way to do this elegantly in ASP.NET MVC 3?

  Hi everybody, I have thought a bit recently about how to use getDelayed and getMulti in a PHP application, and their difference. From reading the documentation about getDelayed: "The method does not wait for response and returns right away. When you are ready to collect the items, call either Memcached::fetch or Memcached::fetchAll." So obviously there's a need to call fetchAll before having the keys available, unlike getMulti. But when is the actual memcached call being done? At fetchAll or when getDelayed is run?

• Hibernate won't autogenerate sequence table

  I'm trying to use a sequence table to generate keys for my entities. I notice that if I just use the @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.TABLE) with no explicit generator, Hibernate will automatically create the hibernate_sequences table in my DB if it doesn't exist. This is great. However, I wanted to make some changes to the sequence table, so I created a @TableGenerator like the following: @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.TABLE, generator="vdat_seq") @TableGenerator(name="vdat_seq", table="VDAT_SEQ", pkColumnName="seq_name", valueColumnName="seq_next_val", allocationSize=1) This works fine if I manually create the VDAT_SEQ table in my schema; Hibernate won't auto-create it anymore. This causes an issue in my unit tests, since I'd rather not have to manually create a table and maintain it on our testing DB. Is there a configuration variable or some other way to get Hibernate to generate the sequence table?

• Dictionary as parameter, where the Value-Type is irrelevant

  Hi folks, I have a function, that returns the next higher value of a Dictionary-Keys-List compared to a given value. If we have a Key-List of {1, 4, 10, 24} and a given value of 8, the function would return 10. Obviously the type of the Value-Part of the Dictionary doesn't matter for the function, the function-code for a Dictionary<int, int> and Dictionary<int, myClass> would be the same. How has the method-head have to look like, when I want to call the function with any Dictionary, that has int as key-Type and the value-Type is irrelevant? I tried: private int GetClosedKey(Dictionary<int, object> list, int theValue); but it says that there are illegal arguments, when I call it with a Dictionary. I don't want to copy'n'paste the function for each different value-type that my function may be called. Any idea, how to accomplish that? Thanks in advance, Frank

  I have several client databases that use my windows application. I want to send this data for online web site. The client databases and server database structure is different because we need to add client ID column to some tables in server data base. I use this way to sync databases; use another application and use C# bulk copy with transaction to sync databases. My server database sql server is too busy and parallel task cannot be run. I work on this solution: I use triggers after update, delete, insert to save changes in one table and create sql query to send a web service to sync data. But I must send all data first! Huge data set (bigger than 16mg) I think can't use replication because the structure and primary keys are different.

• Get next key-value pair in an object

  So, given a key, I want to find the next property in an object. Then, I want to return the value of the NEXT property. I can not rely on the keys to be ordered or sequential (they're uuids). Please see below for trivial example of what I want: var db ={ a: 1, b: 2, c: 3 } var next = function(db, key) { // ??? } next(db, 'a'); // I want 2 next(db, 'b'); // I want 3 I also want a prev() function, but I'm sure it will be the same solution. This seems like such a trivial problem but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. Happy for the solution to use underscore.js or be written in coffeescript :)

I feel like I'm not getting the best out of my lovely editor, particularly regarding navigating (especially code), copy & pasting, and doing other manipulations of existing code. (though I am quite comfortable with complicated search/replace patterns). How should I go about learning more? What resources would people recommend?

  I am a javascript/java developer and I have been trying to figure out how the selenium webdriver automation framework uploads files from the file system. It is impossible to set a file input via javascript because it is a security violation. Yet somehow webdriver is able to do this with the following command: driver.setFileDetector(new LocalFileDetector()); WebElement upload = driver.findElement(By.id("myfile")); upload.sendKeys("/Users/sso/the/local/path/to/darkbulb.jpg"); driver.findElement(By.id("submit")).click(); So they are setting the value by sending keys to it? I don't get it. I have looked through the source code found here: http://code.google.com/p/selenium/source/checkout I am still not able to find where they do this. Edit: My question is not how to do this with selenium, but how did the selenium developers make this possible? How did they get around the security restrictions in javascript? How are they uploading the file?

  I'm getting a KeyError for an out of dictionary key, even though I know the key IS in fact in the dictionary. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? print G.keys() returns the following: ['24', '25', '20', '21', '22', '23', '1', '3', '2', '5', '4', '7', '6', '9', '8', '11', '10', '13', '12', '15', '14', '17', '16', '19', '18'] but when I try to access a value in the dictionary on the next line of code... for w in G[v]: #note that in this example, v = 17 I get the following error message: KeyError: 17 Any help, tips, or advice are all appreciated. • Creating a JSONRepresentation of my NSDictionary messes up the order?

  Hi all, To pass data to my webservice, I create an NSDictionary with the objects and keys I need, and use JSONRepresentation to format it nicely so I can post it to my service. It all worked fine with the previous version where only 2 parameters were required. An array with listitems, and a UDID. No I also need to pass a version number because we need to provide more data for people with the application at this new version. Only problem is when I create my JSONRepresentation now, the order of things are all messed up. NSMutableDictionary *rowDict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithObjectsAndKeys:arrayDict,@"basketListV2",sharedData.udid,@"UDID",@"1.4",@"version",nil]; It prints out version first, then UDID and then basketListV2. Anyone know what I can do to maintain the order of my NSDict? I tried both NSDictionary and NSMutableDictionary (Probably doesn't have to do anything with it but for testing purposes I had to try it.) Thanks in advance. Lewion

  I have a MYSQL table that looks as follows: id id_jugador id_partido team1 team2 1 2 1 5 2 2 2 2 1 1 3 1 2 0 0 I need to create a query to either INSERT new rows in the table or UPDATE the table. The condition is based on id_jugador and id_partido, meaning that if I wanted to insert id_jugador = 2 and id_partido = 1, then it should just UPDATE the existing row with the new team1 and team2 values I am sending. And dont duplicate the row. However, if I have an entry id_jugador=2 and id_partido=3, since this combination does not exist yet, it should add the new row. I read about the REPLACE INTO but it seems to be unable to check combination of UNIQUE KEYS.

• C#: Resource file refactoring

  Does anyone know of a good tool for refactoring resources in a visual studio 2008 solution? We have a number of resource files with translated text in an assembly used for localizing our application. But they have gotten a bit messy... I would like to rename some of the keys, and move some of them into other resource files. And I would like those changes be done in my code, and the translated versions of the resource files as well. Maybe a some analysis on what strings are missing in the translated versions, and what strings have been removed from the original as well... Does anyone know of a good visual studio extension or ReSharper plugin that can help me with this? Right now it is kind of a pain, because I have to first rename the key in the base resource file, then in the localized versions. And then compile to get all the compile errors resulting from the key which now have a different name, and then go through and fix them all... very annoying =/

• Prevent keypress whilst shift key is held

  I'm trying to prevent certain keys from being entered into an input box, but only if that particular key is pressed whilst the shift key is held: $('selector').keydown(function(e) { console.log(e.shiftKey); if (e.shiftKey && e.which == 51) { e.preventDefault(); alert('Disallowed'); } }); The alert fires but the character still appears in the text box. If I remove e.shiftKey from the if statement and press the key (without shift held), the alert fires and the character does not appear in the text box. I've tried searching around for an explanation as to why this happens but to no avail, any help would be greatly appreciated! edit Removing the alert seems to fix the problem (which seems bizarre), I'd really love to know why it behaves in this way though, it doesn't seem to make any sense. • Physical storage of data in Access 2007

  I've been trying to estimate the size of an Access table with a certain number of records. It has 4 Longs (4 bytes each), and a Currency (8 bytes). In theory: 1 Record = 24 bytes, 500,000 = ~11.5MB However, the accdb file (even after compacting) increases by almost 30MB (~61 bytes per record). A few extra bytes for padding wouldn't be so bad, but 2.5X seems a bit excessive - even for Microsoft bloat. What's with the discrepancy? The four longs are compound keys, would that matter?

  This MESSED ME UP hard. I thought i was setting the key but i was not. No exceptions, nothing happen except bad results. Why is there a setter if everything is ignored and no exceptions are thrown when i attempt to write? What is the point of the setter on the Keys property? When i do the below Key value are not changed. After an hour when i realize what was happening i wrote the loop to verify. I also tried aes.Key[0] = val; var b = val == aes.Key[0]; (and messed with it in immediate mode). Why does it have this behavior? Example: CREATE TABLE ObjectAttributes ( int objectId, key nvarchar(64), value nvarchar(512) ) When I select from this I get: objectId key value ---------------------------- 1 Key 1 Value 1 1 Key 2 Value 2 I was wondering if I could use the PIVOT syntax to turn this into: objectId Key 1 Key 2 --------------------------- 1 Value 1 Value 2 I know all of my tables will have the same keys. (Unfortunately I cannot easily change the table structure. This is what is leading me to attempt using PIVOTS). The big issue here though is that pivots require an aggression function to be used. Is there a way to avert this? Am I completely wrong attempting this? Or is there a better solution?

  I have a WorldWind application build based on the Java SDK. It has a great event handler for detecting when you click on objects, but I've run into a snag. While I can click on and select individual objects, I can't determine if the user is pressing the control key while they click (if they want to select multiple objects). I can implement event handlers for both the mouse and the keyboard, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to tie the two together. How could I make my mouse listener poll the system for a list of currently depressed keys?
