  • Mandatory method documentation

    - by Sjoerd
On my previous job, providing all methods with javadoc was mandatory, which resulted in things like this: /** * Sets the Frobber. * * @param frobber The frobber */ public setFrobber(Frobber frobber) { ... } As you can see, the documentation adds little to the code, but takes up space and work. Should documenting all methods be mandatory or optional? Is there a rule for which methods to document? What are pros and cons of requiring every method to be documented?

  • How do I update the members of a MySQL SET Type?

    - by MachinationX
I have a table of values, with one of the columns being of type SET. If it currently has the members ('a', 'b', 'c', 'd'), how do I add 'e' to the possible values? I realize that using a SET type is a little strange, and I'm unclear why one would use it instead of a foreign key to another table with the values of the set, but I didn't design the database in question, and can't change it that much. Thanks for your help!

  • How can I visually format JSON data (programmatically)?

    - by Ian Robinson
I'm working with big blobs of JSON. These blobs change slightly over time and a revision history is kept. I'd really like to be able to do a visual diff on them, but my problem is they're being stored without any formatting at all - everything is on one line, so that makes it a little hard to see what changed. Is there a good way to programatically format them ala http://jsonformat.com/ or http://jsonformatter.curiousconcept.com/?

  • Eclipse Type Hierarchy Question

    - by Tom Tresansky
In Eclipse, the Java Method Override Indicator is the little upwards arrow next to a method in the Type Hierarchy view. A solid arrow means a method overrides an existing method lower in the hierarchy. What does the hollow arrow mean? Do annotations effect either arrow?

  • High accuracy cpu timers

    - by John Robertson
An expert in highly optimized code once told me that an important part of his strategy was the availability of extremely high performance timers on the CPU. Does anyone know what those are and how one can access them to test various code optimizations? While I am interested regardless, I also wanted to ask whether it is possible to access them from something higher than assembly (or with only a little assembly) via visual studio C++?

  • How to create ActiveX DLL in Visual C++

    - by Eric Lavitsky
Is there a tutorial/reference for creating an ActiveX DLL in Visual Studio 2008 C++ ? I've got a DLL built with the DLLRegisterServer/UnregisterServer, and it's registered, but I'm having a little trouble figuring out what name to use to reference it (from a vbscript) and how to make sure my functions are exported correctly. Do I have to put my functions in a special class? Thanks!

  • SQL injection attempt on my server

    - by Jan Kuboschek
I know a little about SQL injections and URL decode, but can someone who's more of an expert than me on this matter take a look at the following string and tell me what exactly it's trying to do? Some kid from Beijing a couple weeks ago tried a number of injections like the one below. %27%20and%20char(124)%2Buser%2Bchar(124)=0%20and%20%27%27=%27

  • Running a sharded DB from a single machine

    - by ming yeow
This sounds kinda dumb, but I have a sharded DB that I no longer think I need to run on 2 machines, and would like to run on one single machine instead. Any ideas on how that can potentially be done? There are lots of resources on how i can achieve the converse, but very little on how this can be done

Is this the best way to achieve my goal of high quality thumbnails?

  • Code formatting when using pointers

    - by HD-VRSCA
Is there any reason why the asterisk is next to the object type in this code? I'm a little confused by the way I see this used. Some times it looks like this: NSString* stringBefore; and sometimes like this: NSString *stringBefore; Is there a difference? Or a right or wrong way to do this? Thanks

  • Anchor tag issue in FF; targeting hidden div...

    - by Biff
Hello! I'm having an issue with Firefox and anchor links from an external page to a tab div on the landing page; while IE render these correctly (I know, that means little), FF and Chrome both send the user to a place somewhat above or below the actual anchor tag. I didn't write the original code, but I'm not able to find much about a FF bug that would cause this, or a solution? • How to check if String value is Boolean type in Java?

    - by Ragnar
I did a little search on this but couldn't find anything useful. The point being that if String value is either "true" or "false" the return value should be true. In every other value it should be false. I tried these: String value = "false"; System.out.println("test1: " + Boolean.parseBoolean(value)); System.out.println("test2: " + Boolean.valueOf(value)); System.out.println("test3: " + Boolean.getBoolean(value)); All functions returned false :(

  • Is Spring hard compared to Ruby on Rails?

    - by johnny
If I have no to little experience in either of them, but know enough Java and Ruby to be comfortable, is one framework harder to learn than the other? Is one easier to use for the beginner on these? I know it is hard to answer. Just looking for general thoughts on it.

  • Why does this properly escaped SQL query fail?

    - by Jason Rhodes
Here's the query: INSERT INTO jobemails (jobid, to, subject, message, headers, datesent) VALUES ('340', '[email protected]', 'We\'ve received your request for a photo shoot called \'another\'.', 'message', 'headers', '2010-04-22 15:55:06') The datatypes are all correct, it always fails at the subject, so it must be how I'm escaping the values, I assume. I'm sure one of you will see my idiot mistake right away. A little help?

  • Taking over someone else's code

    - by tom d
I am taking over someone elses code. What are some good ways to learn what that programmer did as quickly as possible? I have been running it, stepping through it and looking at the callstack. What else can I do? Sorry I forgot to mention, but there is little documentation and I have been trying to fix simple problems. Thanks!

  • Visual Basic and C++

    - by Hamdy Elgammal
Hello there, I was reading a little into Visual Basic and it seemed a rather simple way to implement some GUI...So I was looking for a way to interface my C++ code to a Visual Basic snippet of code. For example, receive input from a Visual Basic app and send it over to C++ code to continue the logic of the program based on the input of that event.
