• Django app that can provide user friendly, multiple / mass file upload functionality to other apps

  Hi, I'm going to be honest: this is a question I asked on the Django-Users mailinglist last week. Since I didn't get any replies there yet, I'm reposting it on Stack Overflow in the hope that it gets more attention here. I want to create an app that makes it easy to do user friendly, multiple / mass file upload in your own apps. With user friendly I mean upload like Gmail, Flickr, ... where the user can select multiple files at once in the browse file dialog. The files are then uploaded sequentially or in parallel and a nice overview of the selected files is shown on the page with a progress bar next to them. A 'Cancel' upload button is also a possible option. All that niceness is usually solved by using a Flash object. Complete solutions are out there for the client side, like: SWFUpload http://swfupload.org/ , FancyUpload http://digitarald.de/project/fancyupload/ , YUI 2 Uploader http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/uploader/ and probably many more. Ofcourse the trick is getting those solutions integrated in your project. Especially in a framework like Django, double so if you want it to be reusable. So, I have a few ideas, but I'm neither an expert on Django nor on Flash based upload solutions. I'll share my ideas here in the hope of getting some feedback from more knowledgeable and experienced people. (Or even just some 'I want this too!' replies :) ) You will notice that I make a few assumptions: this is to keep the (initial) scope of the application under control. These assumptions are of course debatable: All right, my idea's so far: If you want to mass upload multiple files, you are going to have a model to contain each file in. I.e. the model will contain one FileField or one ImageField. Models with multiple (but ofcourse finite) amount of FileFields/ ImageFields are not in need of easy mass uploading imho: if you have a model with 100 FileFields you are doing something wrong :) Examples where you would want my envisioned kind of mass upload: An app that has just one model 'Brochure' with a file field, a title field (dynamically created from the filename) and a date_added field. A photo gallery app with models 'Gallery' and 'Photo'. You pick a Gallery to add pictures to, upload the pictures and new Photo objects are created and foreign keys set to the chosen Gallery. It would be nice to be able to configure or extend the app for your favorite Flash upload solution. We can pick one of the three above as a default, but implement the app so that people can easily add additional implementations (kinda like Django can use multiple databases). Let it be agnostic to any particular client side solution. If we need to pick one to start with, maybe pick the one with the smallest footprint? (smallest download of client side stuff) The Flash based solutions asynchronously (and either sequentially or in parallel) POST the files to a url. I suggest that url to be local to our generic app (so it's the same for every app where you use our app in). That url will go to a view provided by our generic app. The view will do the following: create a new model instance, add the file, OPTIONALLY DO EXTRA STUFF and save the instance. DO EXTRA STUFF is code that the app that uses our app wants to run. It doesn't have to provide any extra code, if the model has just a FileField/ImageField the standard view code will do the job. But most app will want to do extra stuff I think, like filling in the other fields: title, date_added, foreignkeys, manytomany, ... I have not yet thought about a mechanism for DO EXTRA STUFF. Just wrapping the generic app view came to mind, but that is not developer friendly, since you would have to write your own url pattern and your own view. Then you have to tell the Flash solutions to use a new url etc... I think something like signals could be used here? Forms/Admin: I'm still very sketchy on how all this could best be integrated in the Admin or generic Django forms/widgets/... (and this is were my lack of Django experience shows): In the case of the Gallery/Photo app: You could provide a mass Photo upload widget on the Gallery detail form. But what if the Gallery instance is not saved yet? The file upload view won't be able to set the foreignkeys on the Photo instances. I see that the auth app, when you create a user, first asks for username and password and only then provides you with a bigger form to fill in emailadres, pick roles etc. We could do something like that. In the case of an app with just one model: How do you provide a form in the Django admin to do your mass upload? You can't do it with the detail form of your model, that's just for one model instance. There's probably dozens more questions that need to be answered before I can even start on this app. So please tell me what you think! Give me input! What do you like? What not? • Send mail to multiple recipient

  Hi, i have already research on using the mail() to send to multiple recipient's but i just cant get it to work. What im trying to do is, for every order that i have, order 1,2,3, each having their own email addresses, when i change their order status from pending to confirm, the mail() will use that id to refer to the db table and send the email of those 3 orders. But for my case, it mailed just the latest order which is order 3. • Linq-to-XML query to select specific sub-element based on additional criteria

  My current LINQ query and example XML are below. What I'd like to do is select the primary email address from the email-addresses element into the User.Email property. The type element under the email-address element is set to primary when this is true. There may be more than one element under the email-addresses but only one will be marked primary. What is the simplest approach to take here? • Select videos using UIImagePickerController in 2G/3G

  Hi, I am facing a problem where-in I cannot select videos from the photo album in iPhone 2G/3G device. The default photos application does show videos and is capable of playing them, which in turn means that UIImagePickerController should clearly be capable of showing videos in photo album and selecting them. I havent tested for 3GS, but I am sure that this problem does not exist in it with reference to other threads. I have built the app for both 3.0 (base SDK) and 3.1 but with the same results. This issue is already discussed in the thread: http://www.iphonedevsdk.com/forum/iphone-sdk-development/36197-uiimagepickercontroller-does-not-show-movies-albums.html But it does not seem to host a solution. • Adding multiple star rating widgets to one page

  I am using this jQuery plugin for star ratings: http://orkans-tmp.22web.net/star_rating/ Everything is going great, including using AJAX, etc. The problem is that I need to have many per page and can't quite figure out how to work with the selectors to achieve this. I think this is probably very easy for someone who knows their jQuery... Here's some code below... There are multiple kids per page, and I need one rating widget for each kid. • MySQL stored procedure, handling multiple cursors and query results

  How can I use two cursors in the same routine? If I remove the second cursor declaration and fetch loop everthing works fine. The routine is used for adding a friend in my webapp. It takes the id of the current user and the email of the friend we want to add as a friend, then it checks if the email has a corresponding user id and if no friend relation exists it will create one. Any other routine solution than this one would be great as well.   Hello, In order to fill a datagridview according to the selectedvalue of a combobox I've tried creating a stored procedure. However, as I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing it, depending on the WHERE statement at the end of my stored procedure, either returns everything within the table or nothing at all. • Deploy multiple instances of an EAR (representing versions) to Glassfish

  I basically want to be able to deploy multiple versions of the same EAR file to the same server (Glassfish instance?) , and have a unique path to each version separating them. From my reading on this it appears that multiple EARs deploy to the root of the web server namespace so that they can coexist if they do not have colliding context-root's of WAR's. In my case I'd rather have that instead of everything going under "/", I'd like to be able to brand a given EAR-file build to ALWAYS deploy under a given path like "/foo-20100319" or "/foo-CUSTOMER-20010101". This can easily be done with a single WAR file just by renaming it. I do not need or want them to disturb each other. It is my understanding that this remapping is outside the scope of the application.xml file, so I found that http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-7693/beayr?a=view says that I can specify web-uri and context-root, but I am not certain that what I wish to do, can be specified with these in Glassfish. How should I approach this? I have full control over the build process. (I have found http://stackoverflow.com/questions/877390/deploying-multiple-java-web-apps-to-glassfish-in-one-go but I am not certain how to apply this to what I need).

• Call Multiple Stored Procedures with the Zend Framework

  I'm using Zend Framework 1.7.2, MySQL and the MySQLi PDO adapter. I would like to call multiple stored procedures during a given action. I've found that on Windows there is a problem calling multiple stored procedures. If you try it you get the following error message: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 2014 Cannot execute queries while other unbuffered queries are active. Consider using PDOStatement::fetchAll(). Alternatively, if your code is only ever going to run against mysql, you may enable query buffering by setting the PDO::MYSQL_ATTR_USE_BUFFERED_QUERY attribute. I found that to work around this issue I could just close the connection to the database after each call to a stored procedure: if (strtoupper(substr(PHP_OS, 0, 3)) === 'WIN') { //If on windows close the connection $db->closeConnection(); } This has worked well for me, however, now I want to call multiple stored procedures wrapped in a transaction. Of course, closing the connection isn't an option in this situation, since it causes a rollback of the open transaction. Any ideas, how to fix this problem and/or work around the issue.   I'm trying to set the default value for a Content Taxonomy field in a hook_form_alter, but can't pin down the necessary format. It also shows that the option widget I'm using is Hierarchical Select (could this be a factor?). • LINQ to SQL - Left Outer Join with multiple join conditions

  I have the following SQL which I am trying to translate to LINQ: SELECT f.value FROM period as p LEFT OUTER JOIN facts AS f ON p.id = f.periodid AND f.otherid = 17 WHERE p.companyid = 100 I have seen the typical implementation of the left outer join (ie. into x from y in x.DefaultIfEmpty() etc.) but am unsure how to introduce the other join condition ('AND f.otherid = 17') EDIT Why is the 'AND f.otherid = 17' condition part of the JOIN instead of in the WHERE clause? Because f may not exist for some rows and I still want these rows to be included. If the condition is applied in the WHERE clause, after the JOIN - then I don't get the behaviour I want. Unfortunately this: from p in context.Periods join f in context.Facts on p.id equals f.periodid into fg from fgi in fg.DefaultIfEmpty() where p.companyid == 100 && fgi.otherid == 17 select f.value seems to be equivalent to this: SELECT f.value FROM period as p LEFT OUTER JOIN facts AS f ON p.id = f.periodid WHERE p.companyid = 100 && AND f.otherid = 17 which is not quite what I'm after.

• Access denied error on select into outfile using Zend

  Hi, I'm trying to make a dump of a MySQL table on the server and I'm trying to do this in Zend. I have a model/mapper/dbtable structure for all my connections to my tables and I'm adding the following code to the mappers: public function dumpTable() { $db = $this->getDbTable()->getAdapter(); $name = $this->getDbTable()->info('name'); $backupFile = APPLICATION_PATH . '.sql'; $query = "SELECT * INTO OUTFILE '$backupFile' FROM $name"; $db->query( $query ); } This should work peachy, I thought, but Message: Mysqli prepare error: Access denied for user 'someUser'@'localhost' (using password: YES) is what this results in. I checked the user rights for someUser and he has all the rights to the database and table in question. I've been looking around here and on the net in general and usually turning on "all" the rights for the user seems to be the solution, but not in my case (unless I'm overlooking something right now with my tired eyes + I don't want to turn on "all" on my production server). What am I doing wrong here? Or, does anybody know a more elegant way to get this done in Zend?

  Hello, I am using an autocomplete widget, and would like a dialog to show when an item is selected. The dialog does show up, but I want a field in the dialog to receive focus when it opens.   Hi, In my model I have a manytomany field mentors = models.ManyToManyField(MentorArea, verbose_name='Areas', blank=True) In my form I want to render this as: drop down box with list of all MentorArea objects which has not been associated with the object. Next to that an add button which will call a javascript function which will add it to the object. Then under that a ul list which has each selected MentorArea object with a x next to it which again calls a javascript function which will remove the MentorArea from the object. I know that to change how an field element is rendered you create a custom widget and override the render function and I have done that to create the add button. class AreaWidget(widgets.Select): def render(self, name, value, attrs=None, choices=()): jquery = u''' <input class="button def" type="button" value="Add" id="Add Area" />''' output = super(AreaWidget, self).render(name, value, attrs, choices) return output + mark_safe(jquery) However I don't know how to list the currently selected ones underneath as a list. I currently have the field as mentors = forms.ModelMultipleChoiceField(queryset=MentorArea.objects.all(), widget = AreaWidget, required=False) but this shows all mentors no matter if they have been added or not.   Hi, I am new to jQuery and would like to know how is it possible for me to hide an option in a selection box based on the selection of another selection box. I have 5 selection boxes, this is for the administrator to select the users of a limited criteria. The <options> are create dynamically from the results of a database query and php, and they all have the same <options>. e.g. this is an example of the selection boxes with their option values. userbox1 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan userbox2 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan userbox3 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan userbox4 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan userbox5 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan So if the administrator selects Cathy in userbox1, Cathy will be automatically be hidden from the selection on the rest of the userbox. And if the administrator changes his/her mind and reselect another user call Ethan. The userboxes should be able to show the availability of Cathy in the selection. I am not sure is hide/show the correct status to be used in such cases. May I know how is it possible to write the function as stated above? If I am missing some current references, kindly point me to it. Thanks in advance.

The intention is that the user can search for multiple keywords and it will search for the keywords on every property in my Media entity. • has_many :through formtastic multi-select field

  I'm trying to set up a many to many relationship using the has_many :through method and then use a multi-select field to setup the relationships. I'm following this tutorial: http://asciicasts.com/episodes/185-formtastic-part-2 However for some reason the form displays a strange hex number and it changes each page refresh, I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong. • Multiple Application Support Directories for iPhone Simulator?

  I am developing an iPhone app with someone else. The app works fine for me, but he is running into a bug. We think this bug is related to the fact that he is getting multiple Application directories for this same app. In my ~/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/User/Applications, I only have one folder at all times. He says that he will get 3 or 4 directories when he is only working on this one app. We think this is our problem because our bug has to do with displaying images that are stored in the app's Documents folder. Does anyone know why he is ending up with multiple directories or how to stop it? • Using NHibernate to select entities based on activity of children entities

  I'm having a case of the Mondays... I need to select blog posts based on recent activity in the post's comments collection (a Post has a List<Comment> property and likewise, a Comment has a Post property, establishing the relationship. I don't want to show the same post twice, and I only need a subset of the entities, not all of the posts. First thought was to grab all posts that have comments, then order those based on the most recent comment. For this to work, I'm pretty sure I'd have to limit the comments for each Post to the first/newest Comment. Last I'd simply take the top 5 (or whatever max results number I want to pass into the method). Second thought would be to grab all of the comments, ordered by CreatedOn, and filter so there's only one Comment per Post. Then return those top (whatever) posts. This seems like the same as the first option, just going through the back door. I've got an ugly, two query option I've got working with some LINQ on the side for filtering, but I know there's a more elegant way to do it in using the NHibernate API. Hoping to see some good ideas here.

TrackHistory has each track added to it as a row whenever it is played ie. a track will appear in there many times. Ratings value will either be 1 or -1. What I'm trying to do is select the Track with the highest rating, that is more than 2 hours old, and if there is a duplicate rating for a track (ie a track receives 6 +1 ratings and 1 - rating, giving that track a total rating of 5, another track also has a total rating of 5), the track that was last played the longest ago should be returned. (If all tracks have been played within the last 2 hours, no rows should be returned) I'm getting somewhere doing each part individually using the link above, SUM(Value) and GROUP BY Track_Id, but I'm having trouble putting it all together. Hopefully someone with a bit more (MS)SQL knowledge will be able to help me. Many thanks!
