  • Alternative way to notify the user of an error

    I have a winform software that communicates with hardware through a protocol. Sometimes error in communication happens and i would like to notify the user. Errors could be for example: timeouts, crc errors, physical disconnection etc... I have a communication window in which i show these errors, but by default this is hidden. The user can open it though the menubar. Popups are annoying to the user (and to myself) so i would like a un-invasive way to notify the user that an error has occurred. Perhaps a info bubble like when XP tells you updates are ready for your computer? I know that NotifyIcon can help put things in the system tray, which i do not wish to have. I'd rather keep it within my MDI. I'm open to other creative ideas as well.

  • Attaching functions to elements in a loop

    I have the following HTML and JavaScript it works for the first set of elements when I have a '1' in the selector but when I replace the '1' with an 'i' it doesn't attach itself to any of the elements. Any ideas as to why this might not be working?     Hello, stackoverflowers :) As much I know - Subroutines are with Private access mode to its parent unction / procedure, right? Is there any way to access them from "outer-world" - dpr or other function / procedure in unit?     I want to write some code that allows me to replace jQuery's animate function with one that does different things, but still allows me to call a secondary function on completion. Currently I am displaying all the events in form of list from the file, As the file contains out dated events as well but I want to display on the basis of today's date events and a week events then week after. In short I want to restrict the list on the basis of this and extract information. I know there is a class java.util containing Date class, but need some quick idea and help how can I do this?     I'm currently using ShellExecute "open" to open a URL in the user's browser, but running into a bit of trouble in Win7 and Vista because the program runs elevated as a service. When ShellExecute opens the browser, it seems to read the "Local Admin" profile instead of the user's. So for example, if the user at the keyboard has Firefox as his default browser, it may open IE (which is the admin's default). I know that the "runas" verb can be used to elevate, but how do you do it the other way around? Is there a way to open a URL in the default browser on a standard user's desktop from a service?

  • user buffer after doing 'write' to file opened with O_DIRECT

    I'm using the O_DIRECT flag to write to the disk directly from the user buffer. But as far as I understand, Linux doesn't guarantee that after this call, the data is written. It just writes directly from the user buffer to the physical device using DMA or anything else... Therefore, I don't understand if I can write to the user buffer after the call to 'write' function. I'm sure that example code will help to understand my question: char *user_buff = malloc(...); /* assume it is aligned as needed */ fd = open(..., O_DIRECT); write(fd, ...) memset(user_buff, 0, ...) Is the last line (memset) legal? Is writing to the user buffer valid that is maybe used by DMA to transfer data to the device?

  • What is the best way to identify that a function returned and automatically do something with it?

    I'm implementing user threads on a Linux 2.4 kernel (homework) and my threads are basically just functions running with their own execution context (for example: uthread_create(functionpointer, args)). I'm having a hard time figuring out how to catch the return value and have it ready to be returned when two threads join. I know where to get the value from (eax), but not how to identify that the function actually finished. There's something called atexit, but I've seen people advising against using it, so... what is the best way to discover that a function returned and do something about it?

In other words, if he hasn't been created yet). If the user's email is blank, send him to enter_email_path (where the user can enter his email). Now I want to add another if statement that flashes an error if the email had been already taken, and redirects the user to the root_path I'm not very sure how to do this, Any suggestions? (and where to put that if statement?)

  • Drupal, Themekey module doesn't work for a user

    hi, Themekey module, (that I use to switch the theme on specific pages of my backend), works for my first Drupal user but it doesn't work for the second Drupal user. In other words, the second user see a page in its default theme. I was wondering if I have to create again the account for this user, and why ThemeKey module doesn't apply consistently to all users. The page I'm customizing a view from which you can edit the content of the website. i've checked for permissions, but I couldn't find any difference between the 2 users. Thanks

  • UITableViewController executes delate functions before network request finishes

    I'm having trouble trying to populate a UITableView with the results of a network request. It seems that my code is alright as it works perfectly when my network is speedy, however, when it's not, the function - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath- still executes, which results in a bad access error. I presume that this is because the array that the aforesaid function attempts to utilize has not been populated.     I wrote a function to check whether a word is palindrome or not but "unexpectedly", that function failed quite badly, here it is: bool isPalindrome (const string& s){ string reverse = ""; string original = s; for (string_sz i = 0; i != original.size(); ++i){ reverse += original.back(); original.pop_back(); } if (reverse == original) return true; else return false; } It gives me "string iterator offset out of range error" when you pass in a string with only one character and returns true even if we pass in an empty string (although I know its because of the intialisation of the reverse variable) and also when you pass in an unassigned string for example: string input; isPalindrome(input); Later, I found a better function which works as you would expect: bool found(const string& s) { bool found = true; for (string::const_iterator i = s.begin(), j = s.end() - 1; i < j; ++i, --j) { if (*i != *j) found = false; } return found; } Unlike the first function, this function correctly fails when you give it an unassigned string variable or an empty string and works for single characters and such... So, good people of stackoverflow please point out to me why the first function is so bad... Thank You.
