• Running Mathimatica-5 remotely

  Ok, I have Mathmatica 5 - a powerful CAS. I have a cheap netbook, wich not olny is too slow to run mathmatica on, I doubt it has the harddrive space. I do however have remote access to a number of very powerful computers, (most of wich run variose linuxes, but one of which is windows server 2008) Mostly over SSH but other protocols can be arraged for some, i'm sure. (I might even be able to remote desktop the windows server 2008) So I'ld like to install Mathmatica onto one of these machine and then run it remotely. Either from the command line via putty or via some other method. I glanced through the mathmatical documentaion and read soemthing about using some MathLink program, wich linkes the front end istalled on my computer to a remote kernal. Anyone have any expirience with this? I'm not sure if this belongs here or in SuperUser.

• Some sites won't load on Ubuntu/Mint

  I have a REALLY weird problem with either my network or my OS. Last week I've suddenly had difficulties loading some websites or even more odd some parts of different websites. For example, I could load gmail.com, login and view the list of emails in my inbox but when I clicked one of them it would just time out. Another example is http://www.ynet.co.il, I can view the home page but going into any one of the articles fails (times out). I've tried Chrome, Firefox and Opera, all fail the same way. If I take a URL of a page I cannot load via the browser and try to wget it though the console I get the file just fine. I've formatted my machine (Used to run Ubuntu 13.04) and installed Mint Linux this time, it worked fine for a few days and now, again, having the same exact issues. Important to note that I have other machines connected either directly or via Wi-Fi to the router and they are all working fine (two win7 machines and 1 raspberry pi). Another strange behavior is that I can ftp or ssh to remote machines but cannot send files via ftp (times out) even if I set passive mode ON and when using ssh I can do just about anything but I cannot paste text into the remote machine, for example if I nano a file on the remote machine and try to paste anything from my clipboard it freezes. What I've tried so far: Disable IPv6 on the networking admin (and on firefox disabling ipv6 on the about:config page) Changing the port and the network cable I went to the store and bought a new standalone PCIe network adapter Connected my win7 laptop using the same cable and router port (sites that were not working on my Mint are working just fine on the win7 machine) Loaded Mint from a livecd, got the same result Tried changing the MTU (was 1500, tried 1492) Some observations: When I clear my browser cache and go to facebook.com for example, the homepage loads but I fail to load any profile/group page. If I refresh facebook.com homepage a couple of times it stops and fails to load until I clear my browser cache. I changed the chrome cache folder permissions to 0777 but that did not help. When I run netstat -n I see A LOT of connections that are in 'FIN_WAIT' mode (I'm guessing that's when I try to refresh pages that are not working and timing out), I have no idea what it means or if it helps anyone figure out what's wrong. The sites that are not loading correctly are always that same, they don't vary or anything and they fail to load exactly the same way on all three browsers that I've tried. When I Googled 'Ubuntu some sites not loading' I see a huge amount of complaints just like mine, but none of them that I could find actually says what the problem is or how they fixed it. • Windows 7 starter will not shutdown or logoff

  Hi all, Im having some problems with a friends netbook (a dell mini 10). It will not shutdown or logoff via the usual route. Whenever the shutdown/logoff button is clicked, it will briefly freeze (maybe for only a second) and then do nothing. Ive tried shutting down manually via the command line using shutdown /p but all to no avail, it just defaults back to flashing cursor in the command prompt. There doesnt seem to be any mention of a similar problem on google so i was wondering if anyone else had any ideas. Thanks oh and its runnning windows 7 starter.

  I am using Linux/Fedora's sendmail as my mail server. The server do not has a public domain name. It connect to Internet via dial-up. There are few users in the server. I have successfully configure my sendmail to relay mail to public host (via smart_host): # mail <user>@gmail.com [email protected] receive mail from this private host. However, if I send a mail to local user (without domain name): # mail <user> All mails are deliver to my server's mail spooler (/var/spool/mail). I wish all mails send to local user may relay to a public domain that I have registered, is that possible to do so with sendmail? mail user1 will send mail to [email protected] mail user2 will send mail to [email protected]

• SSH and Active Directory authentication

  Is it possible to set up Linux (and Solaris) SSH server to authenticate users in this way: i.e. user john is a member of the group Project1_Developers in the Active Directory. we have something on the server A (running Linux, the server has an access to the AD via i.e. LDAP) in the SSH server LDAP (or other module) authentication config like root=Project1_Developers,Company_NIX_Admins. when john connects to the server A using his username "john" and domain password, the server checks the john's group in the domain and if the group is "Project1_Developers" or "Company_NIX_Admins", makes him locally as a root with a root privileges. The idea is also to have only a "root" and a system users on the server, without adding user "john" to all servers where John can log in. Any help or the idea how to make the above or something similar to the above? Preferred using AD but any other similar solution is also possible. p.s. please don't open a discussions is it secure to login via ssh as root or not, thanks :)

• Running Sonatype Nexus in Tomcat 7.0, Tomcat blocking PUT requests

  I was previously running Nexus 1.8 on OSX and uploading jars for releases without any issues. The OSX box died, so I moved to a FreeBSD server. Since Nexus doesn't have binaries for FreeBSD, I decided to run it in my Tomcat container. Now, I have set up Nexus 1.9 in Tomcat 7.0 on FreeBSD. Everything is working well, except I can't upload jars to my release or snapshot repositories. If I try via Hudson, I get a 401 error (and no further details). If I try manually via curl, I get an error message back from Tomcat: "This request requires HTTP authentication.". Why is Tomcat giving this error, and how do I stop it? If I look in the Nexus logs I can see that the PUT request doesn't even reach Nexus, Tomcat is intercepting it.

• Clients with multiple proxy and multithreading callbacks

  I created a sessionful web service using WCF, and in particular I used the NetTcpBinding binding. In addition to methods to initiate and terminate a session, other methods allow the client to send to one or more tasks to be performed (the results are returned via callback, so the service is duplex), but they also allow you to know the status of the service. Assuming you activate the same service on multiple endpoints, and assuming that the client knows these endpoints (for example, it could maintain a List of endpoints), the client should connect with one or more replicas of the same service. The client periodically updates the status of the service, so when it needs to perform a new task (the task is submitted by the user via UI), it selects the service currently less loaded and sends the task to it. Periodically, the client also initiates a maintenance procedure in order to disconnect from one or more overloaded service and in order to connect with new services. I created a client proxy using the svcutil tool. I wish each proxy can be used simultaneously by different threads, for example, in addition to the thread that submits the tasks using a proxy, there are also the following two threads which act periodically: a thread that periodically sends a request to the service in order to obtain the updated state; a thread that periodically selects a proxy to close and instantiates a new proxy to replace the closed one. To achieve these objectives, is it sufficient to create an array of proxies and manage their opening and closing in separate threads? I think I read that the proxy method calls are thread safe, so I would not need to perform a lock before requesting updates to the service. However, when the maintenance procedure (which is activated on its own thread) decides to close a proxy, should I perform a lock? Finally, each proxy is also associated with an object that implements the callback interface for the service: are the callbacks (invoked on the client) executed on different threads on the client? I would like to wrap the management of the proxy in one or more classes so that it can then easily manage within a WPF application.

• Selecting primary Internet connection in Windows XP

  There is a computer that has access to the Internet both via the local network and by a GSM modem. As far as I know, when both connections are active, the modem connection is the primary one and all data is transmitted by the modem. Because of the fact that the slow modem connection is supposed to be used as a backup connection, I want Windows to use it only when the connection via LAN is unavailable. At the same time I want the GSM modem connection to be active constantly. Is it possible to make Windows not use modem connection when there is a working LAN Internet connection?   I am looking to add a third monitor to my workstation. I currently have 2 monitors connected to a geforce gt 120. I am wanting to find the cheapest solution on adding another monitor, I have a old ati x300 laying around and wanting to know if I would be able to use that to power the other monitor and if it would conflict with my other graphic card (I am not a gamer). What I want to do is have the at x300 power 1 monitor via dvi and the gt 120 power 2 monitors via vga and dvi. Thanks edit: im running windows 7 64bit

• Suggestion for boot manager in external hard disk

  Hi, I just bought an 1TB External Hard drive with eSATA, USB, FW400/800 (LaCie if you are interested). I already put the windows 7 installation in a FAT32 active partition so i can plug the HDD via USB, since my notebook or other computers doesn't support boot via eSATA commonly, and it works. Now i want to do more partitions so i'm looking for a way to have a boot manager as active partitions that allows me to boot from different partitions in my HDD (win7, ubuntu installations for example) I want to know if you know any software to do this or you already have this system. Thanks and sorry i have too many grammar errors because english is not my native language :)

The WAN interface uses DHCP: interface ATM0.1 point-to-point ip address dhcp I need the router to use a statically-defined DNS server for name resolution: ip name-server A.B.C.D However, the router insists on using the DNS servers supplied by the ISP via DHCP: Router#ping www.google.com Translating "www.google.com"...domain server (<ISP DNS>) [OK] Type escape sequence to abort. Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 173.194.116.208, timeout is 2 seconds: !!!!! Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 44/45/48 ms How can I tell the router to ignore the ISP-supplied DNS servers and only use the statically-configured one?

But when I run [root@host plugins]# ./check_hpjd -H printer1.mydomain.com -C public Error in packet () I get this error - From what I've tried so far, I know my host can communicate via SNMP, I know the printer responds via SNMP, so I guess I'm left to look at the plug-in, which I will be checking up on. • Credentials work for SSMS but not (ODBC) LogParser script

  Via SSMS I'm able to connect and navigate the server/db in question. but trying to connect via a logparser script the same credentials fail. I'm trying to execute this from the same box on which the server's running. the username is owner/dbo of the db. The db has mixed mode authentication. • Encrypt connection between apache web server and mysql server.

  I'm setting up a local webapp. I have a CentOS-5 box that will be the webserver (Apache 2.2). I have another box (RHEL5) that will be used only for MySQL. The data will be encrypted on the webserver via PHP before being sent to the MySQL box and inserted into the db. All web-based connections to the webserver will be encrypted via SSL. From the research I've done, it's not totally clear on whether or not there is a need to encrypt the connection to the db from webserver (NB paranoia level: Orange). If it is not overkill, or even if it is (unless it is a really bad idea for some reason), any advice or pointers on the direction to take to get this done would be appreciated.

• RDA and Fusion Middleware Diagnostic Framework Integration

  Further to my last blog entry "FMw Diagnostic Framework : Automatic Capture of Diagnostic Data Upon First Failure!" I have spent some time exploring how Remote Diagnostic Agent (RDA) integrates with Diagnostic Framework. Remote Diagnostic Agent, by default, collects the information about the last 10 incidents which have been captured in the Automatic Diagnostic Repository (ADR). This information can be located via RDA's Start Page Menu system. See screenshot below. Screenshot - Viewing Diagnostic Framework Incident Information in a RDA Package Note: In the next release of RDA - version 4.30 - the Diagnostic Repository menu label will have it's own position in the weblogic managed server sub menu hierarchy rather than be a child menu item of the logs menuDiagnostic Framework is also capable of launching RDA engine and including the output in an incident package. This is achieved via the command "IPS GENERATE PACKAGE". The RDA output is written to DOMAIN_HOME/servers/<server name>/adr/diag/ofm/<domain name>/<server name>/incpkg/pkg_[number]/seq_[number]/rda The RDA collected files are best viewed (as shown in the screenshot above) by opening the RDA Start Page - "DFW__start.htm" - from this directory in a browser. If you do not have a browser available on the host machine, zip the contents of the rda directory and transfer and extract to a machine which has a browser.  The explanation of the integration goes a little deeper. • tomcat dns forwarding to multiple applications

  I recently installed business objects software on tomcat 6. I have 2 domains - domain1 and domain2. This software allows access to two of its applications via these URLS: ADDRESS:http://myservername.domain1:8080/BO/APP1 and ADDRESS:http://myservername.domain1:8080/BO/APP2. Instead of these urls, I would like the end users to access these apps via something like http://bobj.domain2.com:8080/BO/APP1 and http://bobj.domain2.com:8080/BO/APP2. I cannot figure out how to accomplish that. I have looked into the option of http redirect (not good because the destination address shows up in the address bar), domain forwarding (not sure if it would work with multiple applications and forwarding from one domain to another) and also using apache tomcat with mod_jk by using virtual hosts (not sure if it is possible when forwarding from one domain to a sub domain in another domain) ?? please advise as to what would be my best option and how to accomplish. thanks a bunch

• Remote desktop sessions - Unwanted automatic log off after period of time

  I'm having an issue whenever I connect to any of our servers via RDP - After a certain period of time, it seems to close these sessions, closing all the applications i had open etc... This is particularly annoying if I am running a long process - for example, copying a file - it cuts it off... I then re-connect via RDP, and it effectively loads a new session. Is this set somewhere in Group Policy? Or somewhere else? This is happening on Windows 2008 (it may also be on our 2003 servers, although I haven't noticed...)

• Plesk hosting on MediaTemple DV

  Hi there, We have a MediaTemple dedicated virtual running Plesk. The problem we're having is that changing the permissions of files on the server to be writable by server owner (apache) is conflicting with the ability to upload and overwrite files via the FTP user. Here's an example, I upload a file from user "serverftp" and they own the new file in the httpdocs folder. I then change the permission of an image upload folder to the apache user to that I can upload images via a PHP script. Uploading or changing that folder with the serverftp user is then locked out. Speaking to tech support didn't get very far because there are some strange group permissions going on and it would involve me adding every single domain FTP user to the pcantl group or something similar. I'm wondering how I can easily change things so that I don't have this problem anymore.

• Wireless DHCP doesn't work until wired Ethernet plugged in

  A client of mine has an Asus R1F tablet running Windows XP Tablet SP3. It has an Intel 3945ABG wireless card; wired Ethernet is a Realtek something-or-other. In the past few days, it's developed an odd problem: WiFi authenticates, but can't get an address via DHCP. plug in wired Ethernet - both interfaces get good addresses unplug cable, WiFi continues to work until shutdown. Next morning, repeat process. I've tried: turning WiFi off/on (there's a slider switch) disabling/re-enabling via Device Mangler uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the 3945ABG... changing from Intel Pro/SET to Windows Wireless Zero Config (and back) restarting the router changing the static DHCP assignments at the router upgrading the router firmware, just on general principles The router/access point is pfSense 1.2.3RC1 (was 1.2.2); wireless card is Atheros-based. None of the 12 other users (5 with tablets) are having problems.

• Can I set up a 2nd home wireless router, with router2 connecting to the internet through a desktop which is wirelessly connected to router1?

  Hi, I apologize for the crudeness of my MSPaint drawing, but please view my diagram of what I'd like to accomplish: Proposed home network architecture Currently, all devices are connected to 1 wireless router. I would like to make my own subnet, with a box in-between my subnet and the shared wireless router, so that I can learn about IDS, traffic analysis, etc. I was also given a cisco PIX firewall to play around with, and it'd be an added bonus if I could incorporate that into my network. The reason for this proposed architecture is so that I can monitor all MY traffic, without seeing anything going on with my roommates' traffic. my MAIN Question is, is it possible to have my desktop connect to the wireless router with internet via wireless card AND share that connection via the ethernet card, hooked to wireless router 2? cable modem - wireless router - desktop pc connected wirelessly - wireless router 2 getting internet from wired connection to desktop pc - laptops connected wirelessly The PIX can be left out for now, but I'm wondering if it could eventually be incorporated? • EC2-like virtualisation platform with non-RDP access

  I'm looking into setting up a few small VMs. The trouble is the software I intend to install on them (Cisco VPN Client) blocks out networking (other than to the target VPN destination...) with no workaround. This means that Remote Desktop or other methods of connecting to VMs that go via the Internet (e.g. GoToMyPC, LogMeIn) are a non-starter. What I'm really looking for is an EC2-like platform but which gives direct access to the VM through (for example) Hyper-V Manager. Sadly the only way they all seem to offer to remote control the VMs is direct access via Remote Desktop, whereas I need to be one layer above that (if that makes sense). A viable alternative would be to run virtualisation software within a Windows EC2 instance; obviously hardware virtualisation is impossible but I wonder if there are any software virtualisation platforms that could be run and that would work. Does anyone know if something like this exists/is possible? Thanks! C

• If ssh connection fails using SOCKS then what? Automate switch to no proxy?

  Right now I am using plink in a batch routine that reconnects to my SSH server if I loose connection. I use my plink connection & socks proxy (firefox) to forward all my browser traffic. Works great EXCEPT for one thing! If I can't get to my ssh server for some ODD reason I have to go to options in firefox and revert back my settings to NO Proxy. It can be done, but its annoying! So how would I keep my SOCKS Proxy connection in firefox, but if I cant connect to my SSH Server, how can I automatically switch to the autodetect proxy/no proxy settings in firefox? I would think that I could use the Firefox command line arguments and a batch routine to do so, but I do not believe this is possible. But a smart grid infrastructure can meet these demands, intelligently. The implementation of a smart grid is not in the distant future, it is an achievable reality for utilities via simple installation of new software and technologies, which can be done incrementally for those facing existing legacy systems or concerned with upfront costs. The smart grid is integral to the monitoring and control of energy use as well as the future-proofing of the energy grid. • D-Link DNS-323 NAS firmware update

  Hi all, I've got a D-Link DNS-323 NAS enclosure holding a bunch of multimedia files that I've (possibly stupidly) just updated the firmware on, from 1.03 to 1.08. The updater indicated it applied the firmware patch successfully, but after rebooting it I can no longer get into it via the web interface, either via the static IP I had assigned it before the update, or by any of the DHCP-assigned addresses that I can see are currently assigned by my router. The unit just sits there, with the drives (2x512 set up as RAID-1) thrashing away seemingly forever... So, my question - has anyone had a similar experience with one of these units? Any advice etc? I've googled the hell out of it, and can't find anything useful.
