• Blocking a distributed, consistent spam attack? Could it be something more serious?

  I will do my best to try and explain this as it's strange and confusing to me. I posted a little while ago about a sustained spike in mysql queries on a VPS I had recently setup. It turned out to be a single post on a site I was developmenting. The post had over 30,000 spam comments! Since the site was one I was slowly building I hadn't configured the anti-spam comment software yet. I've since deleted the particular post which has given the server a break but the post's url keeps on getting hit. The frustrating thing is every hit is from a different IP. How do I even start to block/prevent this? Is this even something I need to worry about? Here are some more specific details about my setup, just to give some context: Ubuntu 8.10 server with ufw setup The site I'm building is in Drupal which now has Mollom setup for spam control. It wasn't configured before. The requests happen inconsistently. Sometimes it's every couple seconds and other times it's a an or so between hits. However it's been going on pretty much constantly like that for over a week. • setting up mod_proxy - plesk, apache, .htacess?

  I want to set up mod_proxy to work so that my blog is running under a subdirectory of my site rather than subdomain so i get the seo backlink benefit. What im looking to do is get my tumblr blog which is running at blog.mysite.com (which is in turn mapped from myblog.tumblr.com) will be running on mysite.com/blog How can i set up mod_proxy to do this, is it just something that i can setup from inside of my .htacess file ? Ive got my site hosted on an apache server, using plesk as a controll panel. When I think of the content of a blog, 4 items come to mind: blog posts, comments, binary files that the blog posts linked to (e.g. images, ZIP files) and the CSS+structure of the blog. 1. • Can't get into the admin console after migrating to new server

  I migrated my WordPress blog to a new server, and everything seemed to be working fine until it started giving me the error when entering the admin area: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 4864 bytes) in /home/neworder/public_html/blog/wp-admin/includes/plugin.php on line 729 The line 729 has: $protected = array( '_wp_attached_file', '_wp_attachment_metadata', '_wp_old_slug', '_wp_page_template' ); I had installed the maintenance-mode, and I have suspicions that this is what broke the forum. If I remove the plugin it then gives another error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 19456 bytes) in /home/neworder/public_html/blog/wp-admin/includes/post.php on line 1158 And that line has: $content .= '<p class="hide-if-no-js">' . esc_html__( 'Remove featured image' ) . '</p>'; } I tried to restore the blog file-system from the old server and also to restore the database from the old server (2x), but still it gives me the same error. • Converting mp4 to mp3

  I have a video I need to convert to mp3 (from the command line - not GUI) video.mp4 I tried: ffmpeg -i -b 192 video.mp4 video.mp3 with no success. • Dynamic Post-build event in Visual Studio

  I am building a video server application that has multiple projects in Visual Studio. One project, the video server project, needs to call a shell script to generate documentation. This works fine when you build the video server project, because the script is simply cd "$(SolutionDir)" start documentationgenerator However, there is also an SDK project that, when built, also builds the video server project. However, when it does this, it does not know where the shell script is, since it tries to use the SDK Project's Solution Directory. SDK Project Video Server Project shell script So the question is: how do I make the SDK Project find the Video Server Project? I checked the MSBuild properties and there are no properties that seem to deal with 'nested' projects.

  I have seen on many sites the silverlight video player. I noticed that all of them took a URL as the source of the video file. Can a silverlight player play a video file kept locally? I mean a simple HTML file kept in a folder with the xap (say VideoPlayer.xap) and the video (say ABC.avi) file. The html file would contain an object tag. • 404 when getting private YouTube video even when logged in with the owner's account using gdata-pyth

• It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over

  Oracle OpenWorld 2012 is behind us. Well, for San Francisco, anyhow. The team is already working on the Latin America event which takes place in December in Sao Paulo, and an OpenWorld in Asia for 2013 as well. And of course they're already working on the next San Francisco OpenWorld for 2013. So what happens after the conference is over? People pack up demo and network gear and ship it out to wherever it's going next; take down and recycle signage; strike the keynote set, the exhibition and demo halls, the street tents, and anything else that was constructed just for the conference. There's a lot of post-conference analyis going on too. Oracle and partner marketing teams are looking at and following up on the leads they got from booth, demo, and lounge traffic. The events team is evaluating the session and conference surveys you filled out if you attended -- looking to identify the best speakers, what worked and didn't work, how you liked the venues, the food, the entertainment, the presentations. From all of that information will come recommendations for next year on what to keep doing, what to do better, and what not to do at all. The goal for each year's conference is to be better than last year's. • Using the Onboard VGA output with a PCIe video card. Both nVidia

  I have 2 video cards, one On board, a nVidia 6150SE nForce 430 and a PCIe nVidia GeForce GT 220 1GB DDR2 RAM I have already configured the PCIe card to use the dual monitor feature, using the VGA and HDMI ports, but now I want to add a third monitor, using the On board VGA port I have managed to enable the On board graphics processor, which is taking 400MB of ram, but I cant manage to use it, nvidia-settings does not detect it, like it's not usable (but is there) My questions are the following: How can I manage to get the On board VGA display to work together with the PCIe graphics card? If possible, how can I recover those 400 MB the on board card is taking (even without being used) or how can I get it to use the PCIe card available memory? System Details: Linux 2.6.35-28-generic i686 Ubuntu 10.10 (All updates installed) NVIDIA Driver Version: 260.19.06 (Official) If more info is needed please let me know.   Does anyone know of a user-hosted blog which can be an alternative to WordPress only, it should only have the bare necessities of a blog. I'll just take it from there. It should only have the following: Admin Account (for posting, editing, etc) Archive System Posting System with character limitation (For the Read More links.) Accept Comments from other users (only requires the user's name and email and / or website, then the actual comment). Pages (Allows me to create pages for custom content.) The reason I want this is because WordPress is already too bloated up that there are a ton of features that I don't need. I'd mostly be satisfied with a blogging system that has the above feature-set and I'll just work my way to add my own feature as I require it along the way.

• Can I get my video card to output a DVI and VGA signal at the same time?

  Hey All, I've got: a lovely 24" monitor, w/both DVI and VGA inputs, a personal desktop w/a Radeon HD Pro 2400 video card (both DVI and VGA outputs) a work laptop w/both outputs, and a KVM switch that handles VGA only Right now I've got laptop connected to the monitor's VGA, and the desktop connected to the DVI. This works, but requires me to switch the KVM and monitor input sources separately, which annoys me (I switch back & forth a lot to make skype calls & manage my music). I'd like to feed both VGA and DVI signals out of my desktop so I can do quick things on my desktop & switch right back, but then when I'm done working, switch the monitor over to DVI to get the crisper picture. Alas, just attaching both VGA and DVI cables to my desktop's video card did not do the trick. Can this card be persuaded to output both signals at the same time? Many thanks! -Roy

• TextMate blogging bundle: real sync between blog and project?

  I'm looking for a solution to sync between a blog and a project or any other folder for that matter. Alternatively, any other Mac app would help which allows to sync an xmlrpc.php with a folder. The TextMate Blogging bundle works fine with fetch and post. But I can't find a way to sync. I tend to re-edit my blog posts, e.g. categories and formatting details. There's a good chance I lose some work, when I post the project file again rather than fetch + re-post.

• How to crop black bars or zoom on Youtube and other Video websites?

  Many desktop software (VLC, MPC) and have an option to 'zoom in' , 'crop black bars', or crop to a specific aspect ratio. How can we do this in Fullscreen on Youtube or other flash Video sites? I am the viewer, NOT the video's creator/publisher. iOS Can do this (double tap to zoom, which removes black bars, zoom depth not configurable). afaik, Desktop computers (and android devices), cannot do this on the fly. The only 'workaround' I've found is F11 and zooming of the entire web page - basically a fake full screen and zooming the web page beyond the screen size. Use Case: watching 4:3 flash videos from the web on a widescreen monitor. Looking for all creative solutions, including any software that accesses YouTube without using a web browser.

• Using 4 monitors with 2 generic video cards... possible?

  I'm thinking of setting up 4 monitors in a grid, using two video cards, one card to feed each pair of monitors through the card's two DVI ports. The most important requirement for me is to have the grid of monitors act as one single huge screen. Is this scenario possible by using two generic cards like Radeon 4870s on a Windows 7 computer? (I've heard of Eyefinity, but 4870s don't have it) Another issue is that I only have one PCI-Express slot on my computer's motherboard, therefore I'll need to use one of the lesser PCI cards as the second video card. Will this pose problems?

  I received this comment on one of my blogs today (on blogger.com): Easily I agree but I about the post should acquire more info then it has. It's the third in a series. Before there was: I will not acquiesce in on it. I over precise post. Expressly the title attracted me to be familiar with the sound story. and before that Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now keep it up! It is obviously computer-generated (well, not this last one). The comments are from Anonymous, so they're not trying to legitimate a user on Blogger. Is this a spam attack? What might its goal be? Or are they just testing my blog to see if I reject or not? Does this kind of "attack" have a name?
