    I have a J2EE app and it has a listener in web.xml. Listener contains a method called contextInitialized I want to know when does contextInitialized actually get called? From my reading I understand that it gets called when deploying the application. Can there be situations/scenario's where it could be called after the application has been deployed? Say that I am in a Clustered GlassFish app server environment. Could it be called after the application has been deployed?

  • C# XElement: Node Formatting with HTML

    I'm extracting XML node from an XElement. When I use XElement.Value it strips any HTML that may be in the node. I know that if I do XElement.ToString() I can keep the HTML, but it also gives me the node tags. Is there any way to extract the content of a Node as is without the HTML being stripped out? Cheers.

  • Simple database design and LINQ

    I have very little experience designing databases, and now I want to create a very simple database that does the same thing I have previously had in xml. Here's the xml: <services> <service type="writing"> <small>125</small> <medium>100</medium> <large>60</large> <xlarge>30</xlarge> </service> <service type="analysis"> <small>56</small> <medium>104</medium> <large>200</large> <xlarge>250</xlarge> </service> </services> Now, I wanted to create the same thing in a SQL database, and started doing this ( hope this formats ok, but you'll get the gist, four columns and two rows): > ServiceType Small Medium Large > > Writing 125 100 60 > > Analysis 56 104 200 This didn't work too well, since I then wanted to use LINQ to select, say, the Large value for Writing (60). But I couldn't use LINQ for this (as far as I know) and use a variable for the size (see parameters in the method below). I could only do that if I had a column like "Size" where Small, Medium, and Large would be the values. But that doesn't feel right either, because then I would get several rows with ServiceType = Writing (3 in this case, one for each size), and the same for Analysis. And if I were to add more servicetypes I would have to do the same. Simply repetitive... Is there any smart way to do this using relationships or something? Using the second design above (although not good), I could use the following LINQ to select a value with parameters sent to the method: protected int GetHourRateDB(string serviceType, Size size) { CalculatorLinqDataContext context = new CalculatorLinqDataContext(); var data = (from calculatorData in context.CalculatorDatas where calculatorData.Service == serviceType && calculatorData.Size == size.ToString() select calculatorData).Single(); return data.Hours; } But if there is another better design, could you please also describe how to do the same selection using LINQ with that design?     Hi, I'm using sebastiaan holtrop's cover flow component in Flex. I would like to be able to add the sources to the images using xml. I would also like each image to have its own URL assosiated with it, so when I click it (if it's in the front of the coverflow), I go to that URL. I'm a bit clueless as to how to get that done (this is the first time I use Flex and the project docs think I'm a higher level Flex programmer...). Thanks, Niv

    I'm using lxml as follows to parse an exported XML file from another system: xmldoc = open(filename) etree.parse(xmldoc) But im getting: lxml.etree.XMLSyntaxError: Entity 'eacute' not defined, line 4495, column 46 Obviously it's having problems with unicode entity names - but how would i get round this? Via open() or parse()?

    Yesterday I got this error The processing instruction target matching "[xX][mM][lL]" is not allowed when I investigated, it was caused by whitespace at the very start of my XML document. Not difficult to solve, but I was struck with how unhelpful that particular error message was to identifying the actual problem. So what other examples of obscure errors do people have, and are you willing to admit to some of your own making.

  • Best reporting engine for WPF without a database?

    Does anyone know of a Reporting Engine for WPF? Most of the ones I could find are still for WinForms. I'm happy enough using a WinForms one in WPF with a WinForms host so long as the tool has a UserControl that can be embedded in a window. Also, I'm not using a database and all my data is in XML so the Reporting Engine needs to be able to handle that. Any suggestions?
