  • Bridging two wireless interfaces with brctl?

    I have this topology: [internet] ^ L-------[wlan0]-[host]-[wlan1]-----[client-1] I tried to bridge wlan0 wlan1 but it wont work with brctl; but magically when I issue this command #iw set dev wlan0 4addr on it adds wlan0 to the bridge BUT I lost all internet connection and I was unable to hook it to the internet router. can somebody please explain why did that happen and is there a way to get this done ?

  • Wifi network stopped being visible (and usable) (Linksys wag320n)

    Basically, my wifi network simply stopped working for no apparent reason. It doesn't appear in the list of the available networks anymore. I can see all my neighbors' networks, but not mine. It's as if it doesn't exist anymore. The internet connection (non-wifi), which goes through the same modem/router, is fine though. I already had a similar problem about one year ago (see here: Wifi network SSID not visible ), just after buying this very modem. I finally got it to work after performing two factory resets and getting rid of the Cisco "Magic" software; but this time it's not working. I use a linksys router-modem (WAG320N) which is directly connected (via network cable) to my desktop computer (Windows 7). I have (mainly) two devices that use the wifi network: my phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus) and an Asus tablet (TF201, aka Transformer Prime). I also resurrected an old laptop computer (Dell, running Windows XP) to test that, and it doesn't see anything either (apart from the 20 other wifi networks, of course ^^). This wifi network was working just fine and has been for about a year. I haven't touched the modem settings so I have no idea what's causing the problem. I tried: making my phone "forget" about my network, hoping it would see it again after that: no luck. re-entering the network informations (SSID/password) manually on my phone: still no luck (says it's not in range) exporting the modem configuration, resetting the modem (factory reset, via modem admin), restarting it, importing the configuration: nope. factory reset, turning it off for 15 minutes, restarting, re-factory reset, and entering the configuration manually: still nothing. Has anybody experienced something similar before? Have you any suggestion to fix that? Thanks in advance.   • Some web pages won't download fully

    Some web pages won't download fully under any browser on any computer connected to the network. I have Internet access through a wireless modem/router (2 Mbps DSL connection, wireless reception is excellent). I use Opera and when I turn on Opera turbo the same sites download fully. I tried changing to some other dns (opendns, google dns), but it made no difference. What would you suggest I try? OS : Windows 7 64 bit

  • Override my ISP's "domain not found" page?

    If I screw up typing a URL, my ISP shoots me over to their branded search page. So if I type "superuser" in my location bar I end up at http://domainnotfound.optimum.net/cablevassist/dnsassist/main/?domain=superuser I'd like my browser to leave the location the way it was and just say "nothing doing," rather than redirecting me to a search. Can I override that in my own /etc/hosts or at my router?

  • How can I check how much data has been transfered in a particular remote computer in my LAN?

    I am the system administrator. I am suspecting some unwanted data transfers in some of the computers under my lan. This also effects the overall performance of the network. Is there anyway by which i can check the transfered data over a particular interval. I am not supposed to install any applications on any other computers than mine. I have the router access. I can use tools like ettercap dsniff wireshark etc.

  • Do newer physical interfaces make a better linux firewall?

    At work we use an old (10 year old) linux box with 4 interfaces to act as router/firewall for the network. There's never really been a need to change it since it's stable and handles all our needs. I'm wondering, though, would replacing the network interfaces with newer ones provide a benefit? Besides the obvious bandwidth increase (eg. 100MBit to GBit), would there be a latency reduction, or do newer cards pretty much do the same thing as old ones?

  • Why would my VPN connection work better than my direct connection?

    I have a new Windows 7 64bit laptop, which connects wirelessly to a ASDL router/modem. With my regular connection, page requests often time out - usually with form submissions. When I use the same connection to connect to a VPN (using OpenVPN) the requests seem to work fine. These are not requests to sites that are only available via the VPN - just regular websites I think this is specific to this new laptop (provided and set up by my employer) - other machines work fine.     I'm using DD-WRT on my linksys router. I want to limit each user on my network to 200 connections at any given time. Does anyone know the rules I enter the firewall in DD-WRT admit panel. If you need any more information just ask. EDIT: I'm practically certain the problem has nothing to do with my router settings. When disabling my port forwarding settings I get a slightly different error: Client exception: java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: (-WAN IP NOT LOCAL IP-); but it appears both on the machine locally connected to the server and on the remote machine. In addition, I got it to work seamlessly when connecting the server straight tho the modem (cutting out the router. I can only conclude the problem is in my router's settings but can't see where (I've checked and double checked the port forwarding page). That's the only answer i can come up with.

  • No method error in controller create action

    I have read a number of Q&As on SO in search of some help on this but have so far not solved my issue. I am trying to teach myself ruby/rails, and as a test project, I want to create a list of tvshows and a list of characters where each tvshow has_many characters and each character belongs_to a specific show. I am sure I am doing something basic incorrectly.     I am using php-fpm. I recently recompiled php for including imap functions.     Hi All! I have Windows Server 2003 R2 with Apache 2.2.4 and PHP 5.2.6. I want to access pages over https (SSL). And i get this error (Zend Framework GData): Unable to find the socket transport "ssl" - enter code here did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP? So what i did. I went to php.ini and i uncomented the line extension=php_openssl.dll I also installed Win32 OpenSSL. But nothing works. What sould i do?

  • PHP throwing XDebug errors ONLY in command line mode...

    Hey, all! I've been having a few problems running PHP-based utilities within the command line ever since I enabled the XDebug. It runs just fine when executing script through a browser, but once I try an execute a script on the command line, it throws the following errors: h:\www\test>@php test.php PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'E:\development\xampplite\php\ext\php_curl.dll' - The specified module could not be found in Unknown on line 0 PHP Warning: Xdebug MUST be loaded as a Zend extension in Unknown on line 0 h:\www\test> The script runs just fine after this, but it's something I can't seem to wrap my head around. Could it be a path issue within my php.ini config? I'm not sure if that's the case considering it throws the same error no matter where I access the @php environmental variable. Also, all paths within my php.ini are absolute. Not really sure what's going on here. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Differences in memory consumption between two identical D7 sites?

    I'm running Drupal on a news site that has a lot of different View blocks on the front page (~5 total, all cached). In trying to reduce the memory footprint of the site, I've checked out source from SVN to a local development install to try and convert some of those blocks into more optimized code. Here's the weird thing. Devel module lists memory consumption at 50mb on the Production site (Running Nginx, PHP 5.2.17, XCache and Zend Optimizer.) but only 14mb on my development site (Running Apache2, PHP 5.2.13 and XCache). These are nearly-identical versions of the same site — frankly, the Production site should use even less memory as I've disabled some of the modules running on the Dev site. Any idea why this might be the case?

  • Can't make updates with LDAP from Linux box to Windows AD

    I have a webapp (built using Zend Framework - PHP) that runs on a Linux environment which needs to authenticate against Active Directory on a Windows server. So far my webapp can authenticate with LDAPS, but cannot perform any kind of write operation (add/update/delete). It can only read. I have configured my server as follows: I have exported the CA Certificate from my Windows AD server to /etc/opendldap/certs I have created a pem file based on this certificate using openssl I have update /etc/openldap/ldap.conf so that it knows where to look for the pem certificate: TLS_CACERT /etc/openldap/certs/xyz.internal.pem When I run my script, I get the following error: 0x35 (Server is unwilling to perform; 0000209A: SvcErr: DSID-031A1021, problem 5003 (WILL_NOT_PERFORM), data 0 ): Have I missed something with my configuration, which is causing the server to reject making updates to AD?

    At the moment I'm using filezilla to deploy new versions of a site to the live server. the trouble is that there are one or two config, bootstrap etc. files which are different for the live site and I have to be careful not to overwrite. Also there are big areas of code that never change (eg I use the zend framework, which is always the same). I'd like to be able to record a macro to upload the same bunch of files and folders every time, excluding subdirectories and files which shouldn't be overwritten. Does any ftp client offer this?

    I have been tightening up my web server security and wanted to know what else I can do. I am running CentOS 5 with these measures: - All passwords to FTP, MySQL etc are generated from grc.com/passwords.htm and microsoft.com/protect/fraud/passwords/create.aspx (for the ones which cannot be too long). - Running iptables with all ports shut off except for http mail and smtp, the important ports like FTP SSH are blocked to all except my static office IP. There is also no response to pings. - Rootkit Hunter running daily - The server is PCI compliant according to Comodo - Not running any crappy made php apps, we use Zend Framework for our stuff and do have kayako installed and keep them up to date. Can't really think of anything else I can do... I could implement a brute force measure, but I think I already have by simply changing my SSH port to a number above 10000 and blocking it off with iptables.
