• IDE to SATA convertor Motherboard Issue

  I bought new motherboard Intel DH67GD which has not IDE interface to attach the DVD writer. It has 2 SATA with 6Gb/s, 3 SATA with 3Gb/s and 1 e-SATA with 3GB/s.(mobo specs link : http://www.intel.in/content/www/us/en/motherboards/desktop-motherboards/desktop-board-dh67gd.html) Can anyone tell me how can i connect my old LG DVD Writer(IDE interface) with Mobo ?? Will IDE to SATA Connector work? If yes then how to connect that DVD writer with IDE-SATA converter? Please provide link. Thanks in advance !!

• Is there no such thing as a Gigabit switch?

  According to the manufacturer specification, even my rather plain desktop computer has "Gigabit Ethernet". So when I want to copy large files over the LAN (not Internet) it would make sense to have a gigabit switch. I'm searching eBay for a gigabit switch for a planned home network upgrade. The products I find are all labeled "gigabit" but they all have 24 x 10/100Mbit autosensing ports and sometimes 2 x 10/100/1000Mbit autosensing ports. It was my understanding that 10/100 is ancient and that modern computers have network interfaces that work with 1000Mbit, so it would make sense to get a switch that has 24 x 1000Mbit ports. Did I misunderstand, or are sellers (deliberately?) mislabeling older hardware? (Let's not dive into wired vs. wireless networks and how "N" wireless is fast. You'd be right, but not answering the question.)

  I've read quite a few questions on SuperUser of people having laptop shutdown problems but mine is different. My laptop specs: Intel Core i7 3610QM (IvyBridge) NVIDIA GT630M 2GB and Intel GMA4000 8GB RAM Windows 7 64 Bit My laptop occasionally shuts down when playing FarCry 3. It's around 5 months old. I've played games like Crysis and it never shuts down unexpectedly. Since I experienced this shut down recently, I decided for GPU-Z to log the temperatures. The final log value at the time of shutdown were thus: GPU Core Clock [MHz] - 797.3 GPU Memory Clock [MHz] - 896.8 GPU Temperature [°C] - 89.0 GPU Load [%] - 99 Memory Controller Load [%] - 36 Video Engine Load [%] - 0 Memory Usage (Dedicated) [MB] - 535 Memory Usage (Dynamic) [MB] - 53 VDDC [V] - 1.0620 My drivers are up-to-date and I didn't encounter any BSODs at the time of shut down. It simply turns off.

• Router loses connection to internet randomly

  I have a Belkin wireless G plus Mimo router and it randomly loses the connection to the internet. It seems to happen for a second or two, not enough to impact day to day browsing. But enough to disconnect games, or stall videos I am watching. It happens whether I am plugged into the router or connecting via wifi. I am unsure if it is my router or Comcast that is causing this issue. If I connect a computer directly to the modem the problem never occurs, so that tells me it is probably the router. But I also had a Netgear wireless router WGR614, and it had the same problem. I don't know where to start looking for the source of the problem. What logs should I be combing through? All my machines are win 7 of varying versions.

• Reboot loop after Windows XP Service Pack 3 update

  Recently I upgraded to Service Pack 3, and now it seems that something has gone terribly wrong with the update. After logging in, my computer will blue screen after about 5 minutes and then go into a reboot loop (I don't have the exact error message handy). I have a Sager NP2092 notebook, running an Intel chipset. I'd rather avoid having to reformat my XP, especially with my copy of Windows 7 arriving right around the corner. After doing some Googling, I came across this article: Does your AMD-based computer boot after installing XP SP3? However, it deals with the AMD chips, and specifically states not to use its fix on Intel based systems. EDIT After killing the reboot, this is the error that pops up: STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x8A187118, 0x8A18728C, 0x80604438) EDIT2 I have run Memtest86, and it reported 0 errors.

After some discussion, we had decided to install external graphics card to reduce the CPU usage. So that, we have tried following graphics cards. NVIDIA Quadro NVS 440 - 128 MB Radeon HD 4350 - 512 MB GDDR2 Redeon HD 4350 - 1GB DDR2 ASUS EAH 4350 Silent 1GB DDR2 But the performance wise there has been no difference - even a drop in performance. So, what is the purpose of these external graphics cards? Really it will reduce the CPU usage? What parameters have to check, if we want to reduce the CPU usage?

• LAN cable not connected, but it is

  I have a Windows XP SP2 desktop PC. It connects to the internet with a LAN cable (there's a wireless router for my laptop in between). The problem should be software because: when i tried connecting the same LAN cable to my laptop it works when i plugin the LAN cable (onboard) the green light is on and the orange light flickers when i tried the other cable (that feeds the wireless router) i have the same problem it worked a few days ago, nothing specific changed I tried removing the ethernet card from the device manager, and windows automatically reinstalled it. What could cause this? What can I try?

  My question is for a network with a Linux iptables router gateway. How can it be possible to prevent inter-network traffic of those users. Think this case as a public network, IPs are distributed through linux gw and users are authenticated thru the gateway. We want to protect public users from public users. Network is not wireless and I can not use Wireless AP user isolation. Actually I have a simple method. Subnet the network into /30 mask. Give minimum IP of each subnet to the gateay and ditribute those /30 IPs from the subnet. But this is pretty costly for such an aim. I want to ask for other methods Thanks.

  I keep getting an IP conflict on my home network and can't figure out why. I'm running a Belkin-N wireless router that has an Ethernet connection to my 360 and a wireless connection running to my laptop. It's WPA2 encryption and I have a nice password on my router consisting of letters , numbers and special characters. But for some reason I keep getting IP conflicts at night time...By the time I look into the problem I don't see anyone else on the network. Is my router giving me false positives?

• Unknown monitor in Lenovo laptop

  I have set of two Lenovo laptops on which Fedora core 13 is installed. On one machine, the monitor is detected properly such that it is possible to connect another monitor. But on another laptop, the monitor is shown as unknown monitor. I tried to fix it by reinstalling xorg-x11-drv-intel.i686. But the problem remains same (unknown monitor) and it is not possible to connect another monitor with this setting. Laptop model: Lenovo G460. Graphics card: Intel Graphics Media accelerator HD.   I lost my USB bluetooth dongle (from HP) which I used for a wireless keyboard and mouse. They came together in a set when I bought my last HP computer. Are the keyboard and mouse useless now? or will any bluetooth dongle allow them to work? • Why Standards Place Limits on Data Transfer Rates?

  This is a rather general question about hardware and standards in general: Why do they place limits on data transfer rates, and disallow manufacturers from exceeding those rates? (E.g. 100 Mbit/s for Wireless G, 150 Mbit/s for Wireless N, ...) Why not allow for some sort of handshake protocol, whereby the devices being connected agree upon the maximum throughput that they each support, and use that value instead? Why does there have to be a hard-coded limit, which would require a new standard for every single improvement to a data rate?

• Windows 7 Bootcamp to see data doubler SATA SSD in Optical Bay Connector

  Hi I purchased a OWC data doubler http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DDAMBS0GB/ ... Long story short it lets you add a second HD to your macbook pro in place of the cd/dvd drive (which is useless anyway, impossible to get stuff out when stuck). My current setup is 600gb intel SSD bootdrive 100gb partition for OSX / 500gb for Windows 7 Prof from Bootcamp (use 99 % of time). My desire is to have a second 300gb SSD to run disk intensive VM's off of. So I added a second 300gb intel SSD (again, NO desire to boot off of) on the sata optical port. I can see the drive no problem if I boot in to OSX, however, can't see it in disk management on Win7 ??? Any ideas similar experience ... Funny thing is I can see it in "Device Manager Disk Drivers" but not Disk Management ??? Also no I don't want to use Fusion/Parallels this is a waste of resources for me.

• Do these 3 crashes have something in common?

  I'm running OS X 10.6.8 on a Mac Mini. I tried to install 3 applications today and all 3 installations failed. I am wondering if the failures have something in common. First I installed GraphViz. The installation succeeded, but when I try to open any .dot file, I get a dialog that says GraphViz has quit unexpectedly. Next I installed Doxygen. It installed, but when I try to launch it I get a dialog that tells me Doxywizard quit unexpectedly. After some googling I thought perhaps my system lacked QT, and that was the problem. I downloaded the Qt 4.8.4 packages and installed them. But when I try to launch qtdemo.app, or any of the other apps that came with the qt installation, I get a dialog that says I can't open the app because it's not supported on this type of Mac. I have crash logs from GraphViz and Doxygen. They're long and I think it unnecessary to post them unless they would help someone determine my problem. • Remote access not working without connected monitor

  I am trying to configure a Windows Server 2008 as a Home Server for my personal use (mainly for storing documents, hosting source-control, etc.). The "server" consists of an Intel Atom 2700DC board and an Intel SSD. Configuring remote access to the server, I am confronted with a very strange problem: As long as a monitor is connected to my server, remote access works without any problems. However, when no monitor is connected at boot-time, remote access simply won't work (I keep getting errors when trying to connect that the remote server was not found or that remote access is disabled). Windows definitely boots when no monitor is connected as I receive a message asking me whether to enter safe mode when booting after powering the server down by plugging the power cord. When I plug in a monitor after boot, it stays turned off and remote desktop connections still fail. Do you have any ideas about what I could try?

• RAID 1 not performing as expected

  I recently bought a new 320Gb hard drive for my computer to set up RAID 1 on it for some added security. Installation went as smooth as could possibly be (plug in power, plug in data cable, start up computer, Intel software recognized new drive, right click create RAID 1, done!). However, for some inexplicable reason, I seem to have strange test results when using BENCH32. On my old configuration, a single 7200 rpm drive, I achieved about 60 MB/s write and 70 MB/s read. With a new RAID 1 configuration, I would expect the write to be slightly diminished but read to be significantly improved (though not exactly double speed). However, with the new configuration, I am getting 90 MB/s write and only about 80 MB/s read. I should NOT be getting improved write performance, especially NOT better than read! What's going on? My system setup is: q6600 2.4ghz CPU 4Gb DDR2 667mhz RAM on board Intel ICH9R "RAID chip" 2x Seagate 7200 RPM 320GB drives in RAID 1 Widows 7 home premium 64-bit

  When using Cisco anyconnect VPN, it seems the existing network connection is still going through old connection session (Is there any way to find out)? The reason is because when using Cisco VPN client connect to gateway, usually the Messenger Live, Skype will be disconnected and requires to reconnect. But using anyconnect doesn't need to reconnect. So I am guessing if those old sessions still go through original network connection. Which means, both connection is existing at the same time. Take my case for example: connection 1: wireless NIC - cable modem - my cable ISP - internet connection 2: anyconnect - wireless NIC - cable modem - my cable ISP - VPN gateway - internet Am I correct? Is there any way to check this? Thanks.

• Power Supply Not Working?

  So I recently made some purchases for a new computer including: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R CPU : Intel Core2Quad 2.66Ghz Power Supply: Antec Basiq 500w UPDATE: I got the Power Supply working, the motherboard's lights come on, the video card fan spins, BUT the CPU fan does NOT spin and there is no video. Whats the possibility of lacking power? In the mobo guide it says the use of a power supply providing a 2x4 12V connector is recommended (I do not have this connector) by the CPU manufacturer when using an Intel Extreme Edition (I'm using Core2Quad) UPDATE: Got it working, intstalling windows 7 now. • Setting up 2 external monitors on a laptop with VGA splitter

  I have a laptop with a graphics card that supports 2 displays. I would like to know the easiest way to set it up so I can close my laptop lid and use 2 external monitors (unique displays). I use it primarily for office applications and video and want a quality, clear picture. The laptop has 1 VGA port and I have 2 24" 1920x1200 monitors that have VGA and DVI ports. So a few questions: Can I just use a VGA splitter? (seen mixed feedback on this) Would it a VGA to 2 DVI splitter give a better picture quality? (if it exists) Would I be better upgrading laptop to one with 2 digital ports ( I just see a lot with VGA and HDMI though) specs: Model: Toshiba Satellite C675-S106 (Windows 7) Graphics Card: Intel HD Graphics 3000 (supports 2 displays) Processor: Intel Core i3-2350M
