  • The Digital Video Recorder (DVR) is old news, the IP TV is the new generation.

Its been more than 10 years since the first DVR came out in the US, the idea that you wont be wasting time by programming your video to record a show. Tivo was the first company to bring the idea of a hard disk to store your programs as well as the recurring shows recorded. Its being more than 10 years since that technology advance that improved the live of many families, yet after 10 years the technology hasnt improved much besides all cable and satellite companies provide their own device without...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • I have an internal machine with apache that I can access by IP Address but not computer name

    - by Parris
I have ubuntu machine running lampp. While on the machine I can type localhost or the computers name to access htdocs. From another machine I can only access the machine via its IP Address. This just started happening recently when someone rearranged the network cables and removed a hub sitting between the machine and the network, which makes me think it wasn't all the stable to begin with anyways. Any suggestions on where I should start looking?

  • Cisco NAT vs Bridge vs BVI

    - by cjavapro
The only devices on this particular LAN will all have public IP addresses. Also the public IP address will be configured directly on the machine,,, so we will not translate private/public IP addresses. If we use NAT,, we would have to translate the public IP on the WAN to the public IP on the LAN. The only security feature I expect on the gateway is an access list. I don't really know much about networking, so I am sorry if this question is generic.

  • Is there a way to setup a hotspot with a domain name rather than IP address?

    - by WagnerMatosUK
Basically I've setup a hotspot and its currently being accessed through an IP address. I'd like to use a hostname instead. This is for internal use only, meaning the ODROID device which is being used to as Access Point is connected to the internet via ethernet and only a few devices will access the AP. My setup details: Arch Linux on an ODROID U3 device, using hostapd and dhcp server. PS: I'm quite inexperienced with network so I might be missing something obvious here. Thanks in advance

  • How can I use dig(1) to test GeoDNS resolution for a specific IP?

    - by cnst
There's a rumour that public domain name resolvers, like Google Public DNS, are still supposed to work with GeoDNS, because there's some field in the requests that lets them specify for which IP address they are doing a resolution, thus the authoritative servers can give a given resolver different resolutions for different final clients. What's this whole thing called as far as RFCs go, and how does one mimic such resolutions, for testing purposes, e.g. with dig(1)? Else, what other tool is available to accomplish said task?

  • Getting IP/WHOIS information from users clicking ads in Google AdWords?

    - by nctrnl
I am running a Google AdWords campaign and am wondering if I can get any information from the people who click my ads? I already collect statistics on the website, but I get no referer information from the Google ads in the search network, only from the display network. I am also running Google Analytics on the website but I can't find any relevant information there. P.S: Tag suggestion: google-adwords

  • IP blocked because: (smtpauth) Failed SMTP AUTH login from - can someone explain?

    - by gdaniel
Today I had a few users blocked in our server firewall because of: (smtpauth) Failed SMTP AUTH login from Can someone explain the reason? What does it exactly mean? Could someone be using the our website to access SMTP for spamming purpose? UPDATE: Server info: Centos OS with CPanel and WHM. However no one has access to either. Taking a look at the logs it looks like someone repetitively attempted to login with a known existent user/pass.

  • sudo port install arm-elf-gcc3 fails with "No defined site for tag: gcc…"

    - by Scott Bayes
Am trying to get the ARM plugin for Eclipse (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gnuarmeclipse/) going on iMac i7, OS 10.6.3, Xcode 3.2.2 (don't want to upgrade during my project). The plugin needs (IIRC) arm-elf-gcc3, which needs darwinports for "easy" install. Of course, probably due to leftovers when I moved from old MacBook to iMac, Darwin ports 1.8.2 wouldn't install till I built 1.7.1 from source and installed it. darwinports 1.8.1 appears to have been properly installed, but sudo port install arm-elf-gcc3 led to 5-10 minutes of dependencies installs, then the following, produced with port -d (starting from last dependency completion for brevity): DEBUG: Found Dependency: receipt exists for gettext DEBUG: Executing org.macports.main (arm-elf-gcc3) --- Fetching arm-elf-gcc3 DEBUG: Executing org.macports.fetch (arm-elf-gcc3) --- gcc-3.4.6.tar.bz2 doesn't seem to exist in /opt/local/var/macports/distfiles/gcc Error: No defined site for tag: gcc, using master_sites Error: Target org.macports.fetch returned: can't read "host": no such variable DEBUG: Backtrace: can't read "host": no such variable while executing "info exists seen($host)" (procedure "sortsites" line 25) invoked from within "sortsites fetch_urls" (procedure "portfetch::fetchfiles" line 49) invoked from within "portfetch::fetchfiles" (procedure "portfetch::fetch_main" line 16) invoked from within "$procedure $targetname" Warning: the following items did not execute (for arm-elf-gcc3): org.macports.activate org.macports.fetch org.macports.extract org.macports.checksum org.macports.patch org.macports.configure org.macports.build org.macports.destroot org.macports.install Error: Status 1 encountered during processing. (sorry if that's a mess, neither blockquote nor code sample tags seem to properly display cut/pasted text from Terminal.app in preview window). Can anyone advise me on how to get around this (or how to build/install arm-elf-gcc3 from source if necessary)? None of the darwinports FAQs or forums mentioned arm-elf-gcc3 anywhere that I saw.

  • How do I read text from a serial port?

    - by user2164
I am trying to read data off of a Windows serial port through Java. I have the javax.comm libraries and am able to get some data but not correct data. When I read the port into a byte array and convert it to text I get a series of characters but no real text string. I have tried to specify the byte array as being both "UTF-8" and "US-ASCII". Does anyone know how to get real text out of this? Here is my code: while (inputStream.available() > 0) { int numBytes = inputStream.read(readBuffer); System.out.println("Reading from " + portId.getName() + ": "); System.out.println("Read " + numBytes + " bytes"); } System.out.println(new String(readBuffer)); System.out.println(new String(readBuffer, "UTF-8")); System.out.println(new String(readBuffer, "US-ASCII")); the output of the first three lines will not let me copy and paste (I assume because they are not normal characters). Here is the output of the Hex: 78786000e67e9e60061e8606781e66e0869e98e086f89898861878809e1e9880 I am reading from a Hollux GPS device which does output in string format. I know this for sure because I did it through C#. The settings that I am using for communication which I know are right from the work in the C# app are: Baud Rate: 9600 Databits: 8 Stop bit: 1 parity: none

  • Why is Postfix trying to connect to other machines SMTP port 25?

Why is Postfix attempting to connect to other machines as seen in the log? Mail is being sent properly, other than that, it appears all is good. Occasionally I'll also see: relay postfix/error[3090]: 3F1AB42132: to=, relay=none, delay=32754, delays=32724/30/0/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (delivery temporarily suspended: connect to ab.xyz.com[10.41.0.102]:25: Connection refused) I have Postfix setup with very little restrictions: mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8, 10.0.0.0/8 only. Like I said it appears all mail is getting passed through, but I hate seeing errors and it is confusing me as to why it would be attempting to connect to other machines as seen in the log. • Cisco PIX firewall blocking inbound Exchange email

  • MacBook Pro 10.6 losing dns service, network connection still functional if you know the ip address.

    - by Vincent
MacBook pro connected to a wireless network (not sure about wired) I lose DNS. I still have a functioning connection and as long as I know the ip address of the website, server... for example skype works, ssh name@ipaddress, .... Things can be working properly and then just quit, Once I was im via skype and lost dns skype continued to work. This has happened in multiple locations on private and public networks. What does not work/fix it: Resetting router changing dns server on computer or router connecting to another network removing the airport interface and adding it back flushing dns The only solution seems to be a restart. A solution to this would be great, but any ideas of this to try would be great. Even a sure way to reproduce this would be useful. Maybe related question: But this is most definitely not true for me. • Could the HTML 5 Video tag pick up an IP Multicast Stream?

    - by DrewBarbs
I've been researching methods of getting an IP Multicast over UDP to the browser, and have found little that suggests I would be able to do it without using a plug-in like Java, Flash, or Silverlight in order to open a UDP port and (somehow) render the video. Checking out the HTML 5 <video> spec, there is (obviously) little in the way of specific implementation details, so as far as I can tell, there is nothing stopping a browser from parsing a address of the form "udp://224.1.1.1:8000" and joining a multicast group on that IP/port. Is this a correct understanding? Or must the resource pointed to by the <source> be a file?

  • Ending a Rails 2 URL with an IP address causes routing error?

    - by Dave Williams
I'm trying to construct URLs in the format http://servername/find/by/CRITERION/VALUE CRITERION is a finite set of strings, as is VALUE. Trouble is, VALUE needs to be an IP address in some situations, and it's causing me a routing error. Here's my route: map.find 'find/by/:criterion/:query', :controller => "find", :action => "by" And the error, from the Mongrel logs: Processing ApplicationController#index (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-05-07 10:20:32) [GET] ActionController::RoutingError (No route matches "/find/by/ip/1.2.3.4" with {:method=>:get}): Rendering rescues/layout (not_found) If I visit /find/by/foo/bar or /find/by/foo/1234 I don't have problems. I suspect the problem might be Rails' inference of MIME types based on periods in the URL, but I don't really know how I can disable that. I've tried passing a :defaults = {:format = :html} to the route but that causes Mongrel to fail to start entirely. Any help appreciated!

  • How do you get Client IP Address in Grails controller?

    - by Andrew
I had code like this in Ruby @clientipaddress = request.env["HTTP_CLIENT_IP"] if (@clientipaddress == nil) @clientipaddress = request.env["HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR"] end if (@clientipaddress == nil) @clientipaddress = request.env["REMOTE_ADDR"] end if (@clientipaddress != nil) comma = @clientipaddress.index(",") if (comma != nil && comma >= 0) @clientipaddress = @clientipaddress[0, comma] end end It took care of all the possible ways that the ip might show up. For instance, on my local development machine there is no proxy. But in QA and Production the proxies are there and sometimes they provide more than one address. I don't need to know the groovy syntax. Just which methods get me the equivalent of the three different ways I ask for the ip above.
