There are a lot of questions about what programming books should be on the programmer's bookshelf. How about non-programming related books that can help you become a better programmer or developer? It would also be interesting to know why they would help.
My first choice would be Sun Tzu's "Art of War" (however cliché), because it made it obvious that the success of any project depends on the strength of its weakest link (and warfare is a big project).

We have internal DNS servers where we've registered a FQDN that resolves internally to identityreg.domain.com.
We also have an existing web page at https://iamserver.domain.com/product/default.asp?Workflow=process1.
We need our users to be redirected to the existing web page URL whenever they type identityreg.domain.com.
We're using IIS for the web server. I'm a newbie here so forgive any misuse of terms. How do I get the FQDN to redirect to the URL?

A few weeks ago (newbie alert!) I started using XUbuntu 12.04 with Xfce 4.8. I'm trying to install gPodder Podcast Client (see https://launchpad.net/~thp/+archive/gpodder). I've added the PPA via terminal commands as instructed.
When I click the Install button in the Ubuntu Software Centre I get the following error:
Package dependencies cannot be resolved
This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.
Details:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gpodder: Depends: python-webkit but it is not going to be installed
What do I need to do?
Just to make thing more complicated -- I'm not sure, but before I found the launchpad.net link, I think I may have tried to install gPodder from the default Ubuntu repositories (also unsuccessfully). There may be remnants of the previous attempt still installed, which may be blocking the new install. Where/how can I find them?

As the Title says, the question is Whats the best way of learning how to Develop Java Games?
Indeed there's over thousands of tutorials explaining and teaching you the basic's of Java and how It works but they are usually and majority of the tutorial's teaching you Java basic's are boring and don't push you as you could do.
Basically, is there any tutorials out there that push you so and give you problems you have to solve and push your knowledge so you get a much better understanding of creating java games.
This seems a ideal question for new people learning Java and hopefully should help newbie's learning Java. (Sorry if this sounds noobish).
When one considers the amount of time and effort that Unit Testing consumes for the Database Developer, is surprising how few good SQL Server Test frameworks are around. tSQLt , which is open source and free to use, is one of the frameworks that provide a simple way to populate a table with test data as part of the unit test, and check the results with what should be expected. Sebastian and Dennis, who created tSQLt, explain.
I'd like to build a sidebar navigation for an online book much like apple did here:
http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/navigation/
(note it has collapsable entries)
and to my surprise I'm having a hard time finding a good off the shelve javascript startingpoint to build from.
What is this style of navigation sidebar called?
Are there any open source Javascript libraries that provide this style of navigation?
I'm dual booting Windows 7/Ubuntu 12.04. I want to run C++/Java projects from a NTFS partition, where I keep generally all my files and projects. I fiddled with the fstab. One time I removed 'noexec', the other I changed it to 'exec'. After that, each time, I remounted the partition and it still didn't work. I tried using sudo mount -o remount, exec /media/mypartition It didn't work either.
There was a somewhat similar question already, but it didn't have the proper answer for me or I didn't know how to make it work(note: I am a total newbie with Ubuntu and Linux in general).
I am a newbie on linux and dont understand many things unless given a line by line instructions. I am trying but linux does take some getting used to.
I have installed ubuntu from live usb stick. Now I cannot boot my system without the usb being plugged in. There are answers whereby certain commands need to be run. For any command that I run with sudo (prefix) the terminal asks me for a password which I dont know.
What do I do? How do I fix it such that the booting happens without usb being plugged in.
So far I have just been booting from USB. Please help a recent converted from Windows.
Thanks all
I'm a total newbie to Ubuntu and recently decided to give it a go on my early 2009 Alu MacBook.
For about a week now I've been trying to get the brightness controls to work. I've tried the following:
Brightness controls doesn't work on a MacBook Pro 5.5 (ubuntu 12.04 LTS)
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro5-5/Precise#LCD
None of it seems to work.
Next option was to try the
Nvidia-bl-dkms drivers, but aftert installing the Mactel PPA I just get this:
Reading package lists...
DoneBuilding dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package nvidia-bl-dkms
Any help would be much appreciated as my eyes are going to fall out soon with the brightness maxed out.

Sorry for such a Newbie Question, but I'm looking at installing M3 edition of MapR the requirements are at this link:
http://www.mapr.com/doc/display/MapR/Requirements+for+Installation
And my question is this, is the Desktop Kernel 64 for 12.04 LTS adequate or the "same" as the Server version of the product? If I'm setting up a lab to attempt to install a home cluster environment should I start with the Server or Dual Boot that distribution?
My assumption is that the two are the same. That I can add any additional software to the 64 as needed.
Can anyone elaborate on this? Have I missed something obvious?
I'm using a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 using Unity.
I'm a newbie to Ubuntu and whilst researching various how-to's, I have seen screenshots where Ubuntu has the bar at the top of the screen shown transparent. I really like this, but I can't get it to do it on my box.
I have tried CCSM (2 different methods), Ambience theme editing (a copy) but it always shows as black.
I log out after each change and then log back in. Should I be restarting?
I'm running:
Asus P5Q Pro
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz x4
GeForce 9600GT
32-bit OS
4x 1GB DDR2 RAM Modules (although BIOS only shows I'm using ~3GB)

Besides finance (front-office/high frequency trading) developer roles, are there any other very well paid programming roles, specifically for C++ or Java?
One particular industry I would find interesting is the energy industry? However, I completed an internship for one of the massive energy companies and their "IT department" was nothing more than Microsoft Access- they outsourced all the technical work to IBM and Accenture.
EDIT: USD 110k+
Defense would sounds great except the fact I am not a US citizen :)
We most often hear web developers as well as website design development companies asking in forums and developer boards about use of ASP, PHP & other scripting language and its possible negative effects on search engine optimization and effective SEO strategies for the website. There are many server side based scripting languages such as ASP, PHP, Cold Fusion, Python, and Pearl; among which PHP & ASP are more common.
