• how to resolve this .Net 3.5 warning/error?

  I have three machines. one installed VS2008 another two installed SDK6 and Framework3.5 (one of these two is a build machine). When I use MSBuild to build our application, all of them get this warning: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5\Microsoft.Common.targets : warning MSB3245: Could not resolve this reference. Could not locate the assembly "WPFToolkit, Version=3.5.40128.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35". Check to make sure the assembly exists on disk. • Problem loading Oracle client libraries when running in a NAnt build

  I am trying to use dbdeploy to manage Oracle schema changes. I can run it successfully from the command line to get it to generate my change scripts, but when I try to execute it via the dbdeploy NAnt task running through TeamCity, I get an error: System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater. I do have the Oracle 10.2.0.2 client software installed. It's the first entry in the system path, and the dbdeploy.exe app is able to successfully negotiate an Oracle connection. The dbdeploy code dynamically loads the System.Data.OracleClient assembly, which in-turn tries to use the Oracle client bits to talk to the database. This is what is failing in my NAnt environment. • How to get the millisecond value from a Timestamp field in firebird with Delphi 2007

  I have a Firebird database (running on server version 2.1.3) and am connecting to it with Delphi 2007 using the DBExpress objects (using the Interbase driver) One of my tables in the database looks something like this CREATE TABLE MYTABLE ( MYDATE Timestamp NOT NULL, MYINDEX Integer NOT NULL, ... Snip ... PRIMARY KEY (MYDATE ,MYINDEX) ); I can add to the table OK, and in Flame Robin it shows the timestamp field as having a millisecond value. But when I do a select all (select * from MYTABLE) on the table I can not get the millisecond value, as it is always returned as 000. This causes major problems as it is part of the primary key (unfortunately I didn't design the table and don't have authority to change it). I have tried the following to get the millisecond value: sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsDateTime; sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsSQLTimeStamp; sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsStirng; sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsFloat; But they all return 14/09/2009 14:25:06.000 when formatted. How do I retrieve the millisecond from a timestamp? UPDATE: In case this helps anyone in the future, here are the drivers I tried for DBExpress and the results.   Is there any way to indicate to ReSharper that a null reference won't occur because of Design-by-Contract Requires checking? For example, the following code will raise the warning (Possible 'null' assignment to entity marked with 'NotNull' attribute) in ReSharper on lines 7 and 8: private Dictionary<string, string> _Lookup = new Dictionary<string, string>(); public void Foo(string s) { Contract.Requires(!String.IsNullOrEmpty(s)); if (_Lookup.ContainsKey(s)) _Lookup.Remove(s); } What is really odd is that if you remove the Contract.Requires(...) line, the ReSharper message goes away. Update I found the solution through ExternalAnnotations which was also mentioned by Mike below. Here's an example of how to do it for a function in Microsoft.Contracts: Create a directory called Microsoft.Contracts under the ExternalAnnotations ReSharper directory. • Problem deleting record using Entity Framework and System.Data.SQLite

  I have a SQLite DB that is set up so when I delete a Person the delete is cascaded. This works fine when I manually delete a Person (all records that reference the PersonID are deleted). But when I use Entity Framework to delete the Person I get an error: System.InvalidOperationException: The operation failed: The relationship could not be changed because one or more of the foreign-key properties is non-nullable. When a change is made to a relationship, the related foreign-key property is set to a null value. If the foreign-key does not support null values, a new relationship must be defined, the foreign-key property must be assigned another non-null value, or the unrelated object must be deleted. I don't understand why this is occurring. My trigger is set to clean up all related objects before deleting the object it was told to delete. When I go into the model editor and check the properties of the relationship it shows no action for the OnDelete property. Why isn't this set correctly by pulling it from the DB? Here's the relivent SQL for my tables.   Hi All, I have got this error when using Enterprise Library 3.1 May 2007 version. We are developing a product and have a common lib directory beneath the Subversion Trunk directory <\Trunk\Lib\ into which we put all the third party DLLs. Inside this we have Microsoft\EnterpriseLibrary\v3.1 in which we have copied all the dlls from \Program Files\Microsoft Enterprise Library May2007\bin. Everything was working properly until one of the developers installed the source code on this machine. There were some dlls copied at the end of the source code installation and once that was done, he is not able to run the project anymore. He always gets this error 'Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data, Version=3.1.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)' What is the problem here? I thought that when the source code was installed it was just supposed to build everything and copy in the bin directory within the source code parent directory. Also we have copied the Dlls from Microsoft Enterprise Library May 2007\bin directory into our product development directory and references into our project with a copylocal flag set to true. Can anyone help me out here RK

  Hi I am having getting an exception when trying to initialize ActiveRecord and I cannot figure out what I am missing. I am trying to convince the company I work for to use Castle ActiveRecord and it won't look good if I can't demonstrate how it works. • Reverse engineering and patching a DirectX game?

  Background I am playing Imperishable Night, one of the Touhou series of games. The shoot button is 'z', moving slower is 'shift', and the arrow keys move. Unfortunately for me, using shift-z ghosts my right arrow key, so I can't move to the right while shooting. This ghosting happens in all applications, and switching keyboards fixes it. Goal I want to locate in the disassembled code the directx function that gets the keyboard input and compares it against the 'z' key, and change that key to 'a'. I'm considering this a fun project. Assuming the size of the scan codes are the same, this should be fairly simple. And because the executable is only 400k, maybe this will provide a unique opportunity for me to explore the dark side of the computing underworld (kidding). Relevant experience I have some experience with coding in assembly, but not in the disassembly of such. I have no experience with the DirectX apis. Question I need some guidance. I've found a listing of directx keyboard scan codes, and a program called PEExplorer that looks like it will do what I need. Is there a means by which I can turn some of the assembly with C function calls so it's more easily read? I will need to locate where the game retrieves the currently pressed keys, compares those against a list, and it's that list I need to modify. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

• Slow query with unexpected index scan

  Hello I have this query: SELECT * FROM sample INNER JOIN test ON sample.sample_number = test.sample_number INNER JOIN result ON test.test_number = result.test_number WHERE sampled_date BETWEEN '2010-03-17 09:00' AND '2010-03-17 12:00' the biggest table here is RESULT, contains 11.1M records. The left 2 tables about 1M. this query works slowly (more than 10 minutes) and returns about 800 records. executing plan shows clustered index scan (over it's PRIMARY KEY (result.result_number, which actually doesn't take part in query)) over all 11M records. RESULT.TEST_NUMBER is a clustered primary key. if I change 2010-03-17 09:00 to 2010-03-17 10:00 - i get about 40 records. it executes for 300ms. and plan shows index seek (over result.test_number index) if i replace * in SELECT clause to result.test_number (covered with index) - then all become fast in first case too. this points to hdd IO issues, but doesn't clarifies changing plan. so, any ideas? UPDATE: sampled_date is in table sample and covered by index. other fields from this query: test.sample_number is covered by index and result.test_number too. UPDATE 2: obviously than sql server in any reasons don't want to use index. i did a small experiment: i remove INNER JOIN with result, select all test.test_number and after that do SELECT * FROM RESULT WHERE TEST_NUMBER IN (...) this, of course, works fast. but i cannot get what is the difference and why query optimizer choose such inappropriate way to select data in 1st case.

• Error in ASP.NET MVC 2 View after Upgrading from ASP.NET 4.0 RC to RTM

  In my View, I am trying to loop through a list in a LINQ object that as part of my View Model. This worked fine earlier today with the VS2010 RC and the .NET 4.0 RC. <% if (Model.User.RoleList.Count > 0 ) { %> <% foreach (var role in Model.User.RoleList) { %> <%: role.Name %><br /> <% } %> <% } else { %> <em>None</em><br /> <% } %> It used to happily spew out a list of the role names. No data or code has changed. Simply the software upgrades from RC to RTM. The error I am getting is this: \Views\Users\Details.aspx(67): error CS0012: The type 'System.Data.Linq.EntitySet`1' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. But System.Data.Linq IS referenced. I see it there in the references list. I tried deleting it and re-adding it but I get the same error. Any ideas?

• Report Model; problem regarding many-to-many relations

  I'm having trouble setting up a report model to create reports with report builder. I guess I'm doing something wrong when configuring the report model, but it might also due to change of primary entity in report builder. I have 3 tables: Client, Address and Product. The Client has PK ClientNumber. The Address and Product both have a FK relation on ClientNumber. The relation between Client and Address is 1-to-many and also between Client and Product: Product-(many:1)-Client-(1:many)-Address. I've created a report model (mostly auto generate) with these 3 tables, for each table I've made an Entity. Now on the Client Entity , I've got 2 roles, Address and Product. They both have a cardinality of 'OptionalMany', because Client can have multiple Addresses or Products. On both Address and Product I have a Client Role with cardinality 'One', because for each Address or Product, there has to be a Client (tried OptionalOne as well...). Now I'm trying to create a report in Report Builder (2.0) where I select fields from these three entities. I'd like an overview of Clients with their main address and their products, but I don't seem to be able to create a report with fields from both Address and Products in it. I start by selecting attributes from Client, and as soon as I add Product for example the Primary entity changes as if I'm selecting Products (instead of Clients). This is a basic example of a problem I'm facing in a much more complex model. I've tried lots of different things for 2 days, but I can't get it to work. Does anyone have an idea how to cope with this? (Using SSRS 2008)

• How do you host multiple public facing websites on a VPS?

  We host about 30 websites using typical shared hosting plans using ASP.NET and SQL 2000/2005/2008. I am now wondering about hosting all of these websites using our own virtual private server such as http://www.crystaltech.com/vps.aspx This is clearly cheaper but comes with a lot of questions I need answers to: Is the risk of having to keep this VPS server up and running worth it? Until now, the host provider has managed the server and we have not had to worry about crashes, downtime, software patches etc. We are not server administrators, we are programmers, so this is not really our expertise. On the other hand, it may not be hard to learn. When we make a website live, we log in to a domain management control panel and change the primary and secondary name servers to point to our shared web host: Eg ns1.sharedwebhost.com and ns2.sharedwebhost.com These name servers are going to have to change when we have a VPS. I don’t understand anything about how to set this up. Is there some useful info anyone could direct me to? Or is there software we need to install to make the primary and secondary name servers work on our VPS? The control panel we have for shared hosting comes with DNS management like this: What software would I need to install to create this for each site we host at a VPS? The control panel we have for shared hosting also comes with a POP email interface that allows email addresses to be added easily: Is this something that can be easily set up at a VPS so clients can manage their own email addresses? Is there software we need to install to make this work?

• Why is this class library dll not getting information from app.config

  I am developing a custom HttpHandler, to do so I write a C# Class Library and compile to DLL. As part of this I have some directory locations which I want not hard coded in the app, so i'm trying to put it in the app.config which I've used before. Before this has worked by just going building the app.config: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <appSettings> <add key="Share" value="C:\...\"/> </appSettings> </configuration> And then obtaining this in code like: var shareDirectory = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["Share"]; But when I compile it and put it in the bin folder for the webservice, it keeps getting null for shareDirectory, probably because it can't find app.config. So how do I make sure this is included so I don't have to hard code my direcotry locations? I notice it will essentially after compiled we get the assembly.dll and the assembly.dll.config which is the app.config file, so it's definetly there in the bin folder!

• MS Chart in WPF, Setting the DataSource is not creating the Series

  Hi All, Here I am trying to assign the datasource (using same code given in the sample application) and create a graph, only difference is i am doing it in WPF WindowsFormsHost. due to some reason the datasource is not being assigned properly and i am not able to see the series ("Series 1") being created. wired thing is that it is working in the Windows Forms application but not in the WPF one. am i missing something and can somebody help me? • Re-ordering child nodes in django-MPTT

  I'm using Ben Firshman's fork of django-MPTT (hat tip to Daniel Roseman for the recommendation). I've got stuck trying to re-order nodes which share a common parent. I've got a list of primary keys, like this: ids = [5, 9, 7, 3] All of these nodes have a parent, say with primary key 1. At present, these nodes are ordered [5, 3, 9, 7], how can I re-order them to [5, 9, 7, 3]? I've tried something like this: last_m = MyModel.get(pk = ids.pop(0)) last_m.move_to(last_m.parent, position='first-child') for id in ids: m = MyModel.get(pk = id) m.move_to(last_m, position='right') Which I'd expect to do what I want, per the docs on move_to, but it doesn't seem to change anything. Sometimes it seems to move the first item in ids to be the first child of its parent, sometimes it doesn't. Am I right in my reading of the docs for move_to that calling move_to on a node n with position=right and a target which is a sibling of n will move n to immediately after the target? It's possible I've screwed up my models table in trying to figure this out, so maybe the code above is actually right. It's also possible there's a much more elegant way of doing this (perhaps one that doesn't involve O(n) selects and O(n) updates). Have I misunderstood something? Bonus question: is there a way of forcing django-MPTT to rebuild lft and rght values for all instances of a given model?

  I am trying to copy a file to a remote server using scp task in Nant.Contrib .   To learn databasing, I am creating a movie database. To associate multiple directors with a movie, I have the following schema: movie(m_ID, ....) m_director(dirID, dirName)//dirID is a autoincrement primary key m_directs(dirID, m_ID) //dirID, m_ID are set as foreign Keys in the mysql database(InnoDB engine) I have a program that connects to the db that needs to add a movie to the database. I can easily add a new entry to the movie table and the m_director table, but I am having trouble adding a entry in the m_directs table. INSERT INTO m_director (dirName) VALUES("Jason Reitman"); INSERT INTO m_directs (dirID, m_ID) VALUES(LAST_INSERT_ID(), "tt0467406"); I am using this sql statement to insert a new director and add the association to the movie. I know the primary key of the movie, but I don't know the dirID, so I use LAST_INSERT_ID() to get the last id of the director just inserted.   I have the following code that I need to migrate from VS 2003 (.Net 1.1) to VS 2008 (.Net 2+) but I get compilation error - System.Xml.Xsl.XslTransform' is obsolete: This class has been deprecated. I probably need to use System.Xml.Xsl.XslCompiledTransform instead. but I do not find the matching Load() and Transform() overload versions that I can use with all the parameters of my original code. in MSDN [How to: Migrate Your XslTransform Code] I only found some simpler cases. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa983475%28VS.80%29.aspx but in my code I see some remarks that hints that the added parameters were used to avoid exceptions, so I prefer to use these parameters. • System.Windows.Ria.Controls and POCO

  I'm trying to figure out how to use POCO for silverlight use. I found an article that appears it will step me through the basics. However, it has in it a reference to the System.Windows.Ria.Controls. i don't have that on my machine.. i found System.Windows.Ria but not one that has teh control on it. I just downloaded teh RIA beta today and installed it.. so should have the latest and greatest. Anyway.. • VB6 Manifest not working on Windows 7

  I have created a manifest file for a VB6 application that is running on Windows 7 (not for any visual style changes, just to make sure it accesses the common registry and not a virtualised one) The exe name is Capadm40.exe, the manifest is named Capadm40.exe.manifest and contains the following: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?> <assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0"> <assemblyIdentity version="1.0.0.0" processorArchitecture="X86" name="CompanyName.Capadm40" type="win32"/> <description>Administers the System</description> <!-- Identify the application security requirements. --> <trustInfo xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v3"> <security> <requestedPrivileges> <requestedExecutionLevel level="asInvoker" uiAccess="false"/> </requestedPrivileges> </security> </trustInfo> </assembly> However, this doesn't seem to make any difference. ie the application is still using the virtualised registry hive. What is also strange is the after I unticked the 'Run this program as an administrator' option in the properties of the application exe, windows still shows a shield on the application icon, leading my to think this is some issue with my windows installation rather than a fault with the manifest. Any ideas?

• Circular file references not allowed

  Hi, I am having a problem in building my solution in VS2008. Normally, it compiles fine in the environment. Sometimes, it fails with: /xxx_WEB/secure/CMSManagedTargetPage.aspx(1): error ASPPARSE: Circular file references are not allowed. I rebuild and it works fine. Now, however, I am in the middle of setting up a CruiseControl.NET system and am testing my checked out code with MSBuild before I integrate the build into CC. Now, everytime I MSBuild, I get: "Q:\cc\xxx\checked out from svn\xxx.sln" (default target) (1) -> (xxx_WEB target) -> /xxx_WEB/secure/CMSManagedTargetPage.aspx(1): error ASPPARSE: Circular file references are not allowed. Problem is, I can't see where this reference is. I have searched for the reference across the entire solution and canf ind no references to the page itself (CMSManagedTargetPage) anywhere other than in the page or its codebehind, or within a string, eg: C:\dev2008\xxx\IWW.xxx.ASPNET\AspxHttpHandler.cs(82): inputFile = context.Server.MapPath("~/secure/CMSManagedTargetPage.aspx"); C:\dev2008\xxx\IWW.xxx.ASPNET\AspxHttpHandler.cs(83): virtualPath = "~/secure/CMSManagedTargetPage.aspx"; My assembly references are also fine (as far as I know). My Web Application is at the "top" of the dependencies, and nothing references it and therefore the faulting page so cannot cause a circular reference. Of course, the page itself may reference something such as a UserControl within the same assembly/web site, but as mentioned earlier, a search on CMSManagedTargetPage yielded no results so this is not happening. Changing the batch attribute in web.config had no effect on MSBuild. I find it very odd that it "sometimes" fails in VS and always fails in MSBuild. Am I missing some subtlety?

• LINQ(2 SQL) Insert Multiple Tables Question

  I have 3 tables. A primary EmploymentPlan table with PK GUID EmploymentPlanID and 2 FK's GUID PrevocServicesID & GUID JobDevelopmentServicesID. There are of course other fields, almost exclusively varchar(). Then the 2 secondary tables with the corresponding PK to the primary's FK's. I am trying to write the LINQ INSERT Method and am struggling with the creation of the keys. Say I have a method like below. Is that correct? Will that even work? Should I have seperate methods for each? Also, when INSERTING I didn't think I needed to provide the PK for a table. It is auto-generated, no?
