• Win7 can't be loaded after installing ubuntu 11.10

  I use MacBookPro8,2. First of all I installed MacOS, then WIn7 on sde4, then Ubuntu on sde5 and swop on sde5. After installing ubuntu win7 isn't loaded when I choose it in grub. Win boot writes the following message: file: \boot\BCD Status: 0xc0000225 An error occurred while attempting to load the boot configuration data What shall I do? Try to repair windows using CD(in this case I think I will damage grub) or I can somehow configure grub to make it work properly?

• Weird Qt SSL issue -- error "No Error" shows up, nothing else, and if I ignore it, everything works

  The issue is as follows : in my Qt app, I have a QWebView, which I use to load a HTTPS page. Everything worked fine on my development machine, so I'm now trying to get it to run on a test machine. I ran the app, but the page didn't load (the QWebView was blank). After much debugging, I found the problem is that an SSL error shows up, and the sslErrors() signal is fired. Here is my sslErrors() handling code: void blah::sslErrors(QNetworkReply *reply, const QList<QSslError> &errors) { foreach(QSslError error, errors) { qDebug() << error.errorString() << endl; } reply->ignoreSslErrors(); } The only thing the above code prints is: "No error" So there's no error, but unless I call reply->ignoreSslErrors(), the page doesn't load (on the test machine, on my developer computer no error is reported). Huh? Is this a bug? Is it safe to ignore the error, if I make sure it's of the type "No error"?

• How can a SVN::Error callback identify the context from which it was called

  I've written some fairly extensive Perl modules and scripts using the Perl bindings SVN::Client etc. Since the calls to SVN::Client are all deep in a module, I have overridden the default error handling. So far I have done so by setting $SVN::Error::handler = undef as described in [1], but this makes the individual calls a bit messy because you have to remember to make each call to SVN::Client in list context and test the first value for errors. I would like to switch to using an error handler I would write; but $SVN::Error::handler is global, so I can't see any way that my callback can determine where the error came from, and what object to set an error code in. I wondered if I could use a pool for this purpose: so far I have ignored pools as irrelevant to working in Perl, but if I call a SVN::Client method with a pool I have created, will any SVN::Error object be created in the same pool? Has anybody any knowledge or experience which bears on this? I changed my hostname to "bloodredangel", but the error message stays the same. While I changed my hostname I saw that in /etc/hostname were two entries: 127.0.0.1 bloodredangel-ubuntu I already asked this question in an ubuntu forum but they couldn't help. They recognised an misconfigured /etc/hosts file, which I corrected, but from time to time these incorrect configurations get attached by something. I didn't add them by hand, maybe it has something to do with the issue. • Error importing large MySQL dump file which includes binary BLOBs in Windows

  I'm trying to import a MySQL dump file, which I got from my hosting company, into my Windows dev machine, and i'm running into problems. I'm importing this from the command line, and i'm getting a very weird error: ERROR 2005 (HY000) at line 3118: Unknown MySQL server host '+?*á±dÆ-N+Æ·h^ye"p-i+ Z+-$?P+Y.8+|?+l8/l¦¦î7æ¦X¦XE.ºG[ ;-ï?éµ?º+¦¦].?+f9d릦'+ÿG?-0à¡úè?-?ù??¥'+NÑ' (11004) I'm attaching the screenshot because i'm assuming the binary data will get lost... I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, but two potential issues are the size of the file (2 Gb) which is not insanely large, but it's not trivially small either, and the other is the fact that many of these tables have JPG images in them (which is why the file is 2Gb large, for the most part). Also, the dump was taken in a Linux machine and I'm importing this into Windows, not sure if that could add to the problems (I understand it shouldn't) Now, that binary garbage is why I think the images in the file might be a problem, but i've been able to import similar dumps from the same hosting company in the past, so i'm not sure what might be the issue. Also, trying to look into this file (and line 3118 in particular) is kind of impossible given its size (i'm not really handy with Linux command line tools like grep, sed, etc). The file might be corrupted, but i'm not exactly sure how to check it. What I downloaded was a .gz file, which I "tested" with WinRar and it says it looks OK (i'm assuming gz has some kind of CRC). If you can think of a better way to test it, I'd love to try that. Any ideas what could be going on / how to get past this error? I'm not very attached to the data in particular, since I just want this as a copy for dev, so if I have to lose a few records, i'm fine with that, as long as the schema remains perfectly sound. The setup work fine installing the service and setting the app.config values but when I try to uninstall the service, it removes the files but keep the service registered, so I can install it again using the setup, I need to use "sc delete " in the vs command prompt to proper remove the service... anyone have any idea which could be the issue here?   We're currently evaluating different Java reporting engines, and having a web-based ad-hoc report designer is a requirement. We don't need anything too fancy, but we need users to be able to define a report with columns X, grouped by Y, sorted by Z, etc... We've found that many of the open source tools do have graphical report designers, but the designers are typically not web based. (For example, iReport from JasperReports seems to be an application, not a web tool) Can anyone recommend a reporting tool which meets this web-based requirement?

• Restart browser on error

  Is there a way to restart a browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc) automatically upon receiving an error such as a DNS error or Page not found? Background: It is for a web based signage application that has intermittent network drop outs, therefore if there's no internet, and the sign tries to go to the next page, an error occurs on browser, and we get one big ugly sign. We need a way to either restart the browser, or customise displayed error messages to use javascript to try redirection to the live sign again.

• Second HDD not seen by Windows 7 on Dell Xps l501x

  I have a Dell XPS Laptop (l501x). I have replaced the original Seagate 500GB hard drive with an SSD Intel 320 120GB when I first purchased it a year ago. It's been working great. The laptop is booting in about 23 seconds, so the SSD is great. I have an Acronis image created that I came back to every three months just to keep everything clean. The SSD is partitioned with one logical drive for my data. So, recently I thought since I am not using my optical drive often enough to swap it out with a HDD caddy and add my seagate 500gb hard drive. I ordered the caddy placed the HDD in it and now load Windows. It just hangs on the screen that should show the Windows logo. I have tried everything that I know and searched it online. I have uninstalled the SATA controller AHCI and let Windows install it. Still will not boot into windows. I wanted to mention that the Seagate 500GB drive was the one that came with my laptop before I switched to the Intel SSD. As you know Intel has this application called Intel Rapid Technology which loads once in a while and shows the second hard drive, but then, when I restart it hangs again and Windows will not load. As soon as I remove the HDD Caddy and restart it loads Windows fine. I also formated the Seagate 500GB HDD in NTFS and still Windows will not load. When I go into the BIOS it shows the Fixed SSD and also "Sata ODD 500GB" instead of the optical drive but it will not boot into Windows when the HDD caddy is present. There is nothing wrong with the caddy. I have another laptop (Asus) and I installed the HDD caddy and Windows 7 loads without any glitch. I don't get it. I have also flashed the BIOS because Dell had a new version (A08). I also wanted to add that I refreshed Disk Management and the Device Manager and the second drive does not display. At this point I think it's a Windows issue so before I reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium from scratch I wanted to see if there was anything I was missing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

• Windows Sidebar gadget not working in vista home premium(ie 64-bit OS)

  Hi All, I have developed a windows sidebar gadget which plays videos in a flash player, It works in vista home basic(32-bit OS) but doesn't work in vista home premium(64-bit OS). I use Flash Player 9 and Actionscript 3.0.   During the installation of Apache2 I got the following message into cmd window: Installing the Apache2.2 service The Apache2.2 service is successfully installed. Testing httpd.conf.... Errors reported here must be corrected before the service can be started. httpd.exe: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name , using 192.168.1.3 for ServerName (OS 10048)Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs Note the errors or messages above, and press the key to exit. 24... and after installing everything look fine, but it isn't. If I try to start service I got the following message: Windows could not start the Apache2 on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Micorsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 1. Apach2 version is 2.2.9 Does anyone have the same problem, or could help me.

  I've just recently started development using Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone and I put in a ListBox. I can't seem to manipulate the formatting. No matter what I do, the background is black/gray, the selected items have a blue border, and there is padding between the items in the listbox (i'm using images). • SendInput scan code on Windows 7 x64

  I am working with a WPF application sending keys to a game. I opened spy++ to observer s as a key press on the keyboard. I then press my button on the application and I noticed a different scan code in spy++ messages. Could this be somthing to do with Windows 7 64bit? • Local Network - Windows 7 and Vista can't see each other

  I've got a strange issue at home that has been bugging me for weeks, but I really need to get it sorted now so I'll detail as much as I can and hopefully someone can spot what might might be wrong. I have a wireless router connected to the internet and 3 devices connected to it. They are: Name OS Network IPv4 PC1 Windows 7 WORKGROUP 192.168.2.2 LAPTOP1 Vista WORKGROUP 192.168.2.3 PS3 192.168.2.4 and they all get their IP addresses dynamically. Both PC1 and LAPTOP1 can ping PS3 and get a response. PC1 and LAPTOP1 are unable to ping each other by ip address unless I ping by their name (which bizarrely shows that it is pinging via the IPv6 address). Also, to confirm this both PC1 and LAPTOP1 can ping each other via the long IPv6 address that they both have so they can obviously see each other just not via IPv4. I've disabled the firewalls on both machines as well to rule that out. I don't really know what IPv6 is used for and I've tried disabling it on both machines but all that happens then is that neither machine can see each other at all then. Does anyone have any idea of what may be stopping them seeing each other, any ways I can look at fixing this, or any network tools that may help identify where it is failing? Thanks, Mark
