  • Show milliseconds with Android Chronometer

    - by Matthew Steeples
I'm looking for a way to make the Chronometer in Android (preferably 1.6 and upwards) show 10ths of a second while counting up. Is it possible to do this? If not, is there a free (and preferably open source) library that does the same? Failing that I'll write my own, but I'd rather use someone else's!

  • Android: TabHost

    - by paradroid666
Hi, I have a question in regards to http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-tabwidget.html Lots of issues are already discussed but this example only works for me if I in the onCreate() method do NOT use setContentView(R.layout.main); Why is that? What do I have to do if I want to mix a tab layout with other elements? Thanks. paradroid666

  • Need help with android WebView

    - by Jesse
Hello, I am new to Android and java development. I create a WebView object in the OnCreate function. Now I need to be able to pass this same object to other functions in the code, such as the onOptionsItemSelected function. I currently have it where I just create a new WebView object in each function where I need it, but this slows down the code since it has to recreate it and such.

  • How to take a partial screen capture using Ruby?

    - by Jason
Hi, I need to run a ruby client that wakes up every 10 minutes, takes a screen-shot (ss) of a users screen, crops part of the (ss) out and use's OCR to check for a matching word....its basically a program to make sure remote employees are actually working by checking that they have a specific application open & the case numbers shown change. Not sure where to even start when it comes to taking a screen-shot and cropping it, has anyone done any kind of screen capture work using Ruby? The app will run on OSX using Ruby 1.9 Thanks!

  • Android Webview : Display numberpad?

    - by Shaun
Hi all, I implemented a WebView in my android app displaying a web form. One of the fields ask for the user to manually enter his phone number (in case the phone does not allow extracting of phone number). Right now, the qwerty soft keyboard pops up when user selects the field. Is there a way I can have the numberpad display instead? (Remember I'm using HTML and not native controls) Thanks! Shaun

    - by BenYL
We are designing an internal system that will have a .NET PC base station and many Android mobiles, communicating over WiFi. Can't decide between SOAP or XML-RPC protocol. Primary concerns are maturity, compatibility, and the minimizing of coding/integration, in that order. Which is best? Ben

  • BindException with INTERNET permission requested

    - by Mondain
    I have seen several questions regarding SocketException when using Android, but none of them cover the BindException that I get even with the INTERNET permission specified in my manifest. Here is part of my manifest: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"></uses-permission> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE"></uses-permission> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_WIFI_STATE"></uses-permission> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_OWNER_DATA"></uses-permission> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE"></uses-permission> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCOUNT_MANAGER"></uses-permission> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.AUTHENTICATE_ACCOUNTS"></uses-permission> Here is the relevant portion of my LogCat output: 04-22 14:49:06.117: DEBUG/MyLibrary(4844): Address to bind: 192.168.1.14 port: 843 04-22 14:49:06.197: WARN/System.err(4844): java.net.BindException: Permission denied (maybe missing INTERNET permission) 04-22 14:49:06.207: WARN/System.err(4844): at org.apache.harmony.luni.platform.OSNetworkSystem.socketBindImpl(Native Method) 04-22 14:49:06.207: WARN/System.err(4844): at org.apache.harmony.luni.platform.OSNetworkSystem.bind(OSNetworkSystem.java:107) 04-22 14:49:06.217: WARN/System.err(4844): at org.apache.harmony.luni.net.PlainSocketImpl.bind(PlainSocketImpl.java:184) 04-22 14:49:06.217: WARN/System.err(4844): at java.net.ServerSocket.bind(ServerSocket.java:414) 04-22 14:49:06.227: WARN/System.err(4844): at org.apache.harmony.nio.internal.ServerSocketChannelImpl$ServerSocketAdapter.bind(ServerSocketChannelImpl.java:213) 04-22 14:49:06.227: WARN/System.err(4844): at java.net.ServerSocket.bind(ServerSocket.java:367) 04-22 14:49:06.237: WARN/System.err(4844): at org.apache.harmony.nio.internal.ServerSocketChannelImpl$ServerSocketAdapter.bind(ServerSocketChannelImpl.java:283) 04-22 14:49:06.237: WARN/System.err(4844): at mylibrary.net.PolicyConnection$PolicyServerWorker.(PolicyConnection.java:201) I Really hope this is a simple problem and not something complicated by the fact that the binding is occurring within a worker thread on a port less than 1024. Update Looks as if this is a privileged port issue, anyone know how to bind to ports lower than 1024 in Android? SelectorProvider provider = SelectorProvider.provider(); try { ServerSocketChannel channel = provider.openServerSocketChannel(); policySocket = channel.socket(); Log.d("MyLibrary", "Address to bind: " + device.getAddress().getAddress() + " port: 843"); InetSocketAddress addr = new InetSocketAddress(InetAddress.getByName(device.getAddress().getAddress()), 843); policySocket.bind(addr); policySocket.setReuseAddress(true); policySocket.setReceiveBufferSize(256); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); }

  • Android Persistent ContentObserver

    - by Lucas Stark
Are content observers persistent in Android? If I create a content observer in an activity, will that observer continue to run until I remove the observer. If the content observer is tied to the Activity's life, how can I create a ContentObserver that will always receive notifications on content:/sms/

  • Syntax highlight in java for android

    - by Mohit Deshpande
I want to build an notepad-style application on android that will have syntax highlighting. But when I search around the web, I find the syntax highlighting can be done only through use of an awt class. How could I syntax highlight in maybe a custom EditText or TextView view? I know that the release of a syntax highlighter is sort of anticipated, so I want to add my syntax highlighter on the market.

  • Android - need UI help/advice

    - by Donal Rafferty
I have been working on Android for the past couple of months getting to know how various components work. One area I am completely lacking in knowledge is any sort of User Interface or graphical interface creation. As an excercise I have been asked to break down the HTC call screen into what components it contains and rebuild as close as possible. Here is a picture of the HTC call screen: From my understanding the above UI has a custom title bar where "Meteor" and the call time appears. Then the main image in the middle block along with a text view showing the called party, in this case "Voice Mail" and the number. The bottom is then a custom view maybe with three custom buttons used within it. Would I be correct in my above assumptions? So the parts I should look into start programming are a custom title bar and a custom view with three custom buttons to place at the bottom? What layout would be reccomended? I hope this question is seen as relative to Stack Overflow, if it is not then I will delete it. Thanks in advance

  • Android : Bitmap save to location

    - by Chrispix
I am working on a function to download an image from a web server, redisplay it on the screen, and if the user wishes to keep the image, save it on the SD card in a certain folder. Is there an easy way to take a bitmap and just save it to the SD card in a folder of my choice? My issue is that I can download the image, display it on screen as a Bitmap. The only way I have been able to find to save an image to a particular folder is to use FileOutputStream, but that requires a byte array. I am not sure how to convert (if this is even the right way) from Bitmap to byte array, so I can use a Fileoutput stream to write the data. The other option I have is it use MediaStore : MediaStore.Images.Media.insertImage(getContentResolver(), bm, barcodeNumber + ".jpg Card Image", barcodeNumber + ".jpg Card Image"); Which works fine to save to SD card, but does not allow you to customize the folder. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Currently we have a Gallery view to which we need to add thumbnails for images/video. How do we get the already generated thumbnails (the ones that the native Gallery app shows) if we already have the image's/video's content:// URI? (We are using Android 1.6, Video.Thumbnails does not exist)
