• how do copyright permission systems for content hosting sites work?

  I am wondering about subscription sites that host content, like recorded performances from concerts. I'm sure there is a tangle of copyright permissions that must be granted for these video/audio files to be hosted. For example, if a band plays a cover of another band's song, permission must be obtained from not only the band that performed, but the band that owns the song. Perhaps even from the venue that hosted the performance, to record the video and post the content. I am curious how websites that host content like this work. How might an automated copyright system work to keep track of who has ownership of certain performances and obtain permission from said owners to record and post their content.

• Most watched videos this week

  I have a youtube like web-page where users upload&watch videos. I would like to add a "most watched videos this week" list of videos to my page. But this list should not contain just the videos that ware uploaded in the previous week, but all videos. I'm currently recording views in a column, so I have no information on when a video was watched. So now I'm searching for a solution to how to record this data. The first is the most obvious (and the correct one, as far as I know): have a separate table in which you insert a new line every time you want to record a new view (storing the ID of the video and the timestamp). I'm worried that I would quickly get huge amounts of data in this table, and queries using this table would be extremely slow (we get about 3 million views a month). The second solution isn't as flexible but is more easy on the database. I would add 7 columns to the "videos" table (one for each day of the week): views_monday, views_tuesday , views_wednesday, ... And increment the value in the correct column based on the day it is. And I would reset the current day's column to 0 at midnight. I could then easily get the most watched videos of the week by summing this 7 columns. What do you think, should I bother with the first solution or will the second one suffice for my case? If you have a better solution please share! Oh, I'm using MySQL.

  I have an iPhone app that searches a folder, collates an an array of all the audio files, and lets them be played back. The problem is that if there is a subfolder within the folder I am searching, it will just skip over it/not go into its contents. • MPMoviePlayerController seems to make 2 calls for each movie

  I seem to have an issue where an iphone app using the MPMoviePlayerController seems to make 2 calls to the server for each video it wants to play back. This occurs with iphone 3.x OS and libraries but not with iphone 2.x. I know that iphone does progressive download and will make multiple 206 requests, etc. but as far as our back end is concerned the player appears to make 2 separate sessions. This only appears to be an issue with iPhone native apps and not iphone videos played through safari. Additional info from apple: iPhone OS 3.0 added support for streaming audio and video over HTTP, and MPMoviePlayerController must validate the media before playback to determine if it is streaming content or progressively downloaded content. This is the delay you are experiencing. On a fast network, the delay should be minimized. Is this double check causing 2 sessions be created for each video request? Any one else seeing same issue? Is there a remedy?

  Hello guys, Just got query regarding c malloc() function. I am read()ing x number of bytes from a file to get lenght of filename, like ' read(file, &namelen, sizeof(unsigned char)); ' . The variable namelen is a type unsigned char and was written into file as that type (1 byte). Now namelen has the lenght of filename ie namelen=8 if file name was 'data.txt', plus extra /0 at end, that working fine. Now I have a structure recording file info, ie filename, filelenght, content size etc. struct fileinfo { char *name; ...... other variable like size etc }; struct fileinfo *files; Question: I want to make that files.name variable the size of namelen ie 8 so I can successfully write the filename into it, like ' files[i].name = malloc(namelen) ' However, I dont want it to be malloc(sizeof(namelen)) as that would make it file.name[1] as the size of its type unsigned char. I want it to be the value thats stored inside variable &namelen ie 8 so file.name[8] so data.txt can be read() from file as 8 bytes and written straight into file.name[8? Is there a way to do this my current code is this and returns 4 not 8 files[i].name = malloc(namelen); //strlen(files[i].name) - returns 4 //perhaps something like malloc(sizeof(&namelen)) but does not work Thanks for any suggestions Have tried suggested suggestions guys, but I now get a segmentation fault error using: printf("\nsizeofnamelen=%x\n",namelen); //gives 8 for data.txt files[i].name = malloc(namelen + 1); read(file, &files[i].name, namelen); int len=strlen(files[i].name); printf("\nnamelen=%d",len); printf("\nname=%s\n",files[i].name); When I try to open() file with that files[i].name variable it wont open so the data does not appear to be getting written inside the read() &files[i].name and strlen() causes segemntation error as well as trying to print the filename

  I'm still new to C but trying to understand it better by working my way through a small MIDI audio unit (in Xcode 4.3.3). I've been searching for an answer to this all day and still don't even understand exactly what the problem is. Redefinition of 'MyMIDINotifyProc' as different kind of symbol Which points to the .h definition as the 'Previous definition'. I know that MIDIServices.h in the CoreMIDI framework defines: typedef void (*MIDINotifyProc)(const MIDINotification *message, void *refCon); But I don't understand if/why that would cause an error. • Mac: How to see list of running network services?

  I am writing an application that needs to connect with a running network service on a Mac. Problem is, I have no idea what the service is called or even what port it uses. Is there a way to browse all running network services on my Mac? More info: I am connecting to a MIDI network session (found under 'Audio MIDI settings', present on all OSX installs). Am I correct in thinking this is a network service? I am planning to use NSNetServiceBrowser to locate all local computers running this service. (is this the best way to go about it?) The following is the kind of text that I've got to work with.   I would like to write a Skype like software which allows P2P video/audio streaming. What language is better suited for that? There are several requirements: Software should be easy to install. It should be easy to program. I want to have access to video information. For example to make a face expression recognition on the fly. It should be free. I am thinking of Python and Java. Which one would be better? Or may be there is a third choice which is better? ADDED Flash is an attractive option since users can use their browser in which flash is installed by default and if not, it's easy to install flash. But I do not know if I can have access to video (if I want to do some processing). Moreover, Flash is not free.

I'd like to be able to retrieve the most recent amount for a set of services. I have examined three such questions but have been unable to apply the solutions to my problem.

• Performance: float to int cast and clippling result to range

  I'm doing some audio processing with float. The result needs to be converted back to PCM samples, and I noticed that the cast from float to int is surprisingly expensive. Whats furthermore frustrating that I need to clip the result to the range of a short (-32768 to 32767). While I would normally instictively assume that this could be assured by simply casting float to short, this fails miserably in Java, since on the bytecode level it results in F2I followed by I2S. So instead of a simple: int sample = (short) flotVal; I needed to resort to this ugly sequence: int sample = (int) floatVal; if (sample > 32767) { sample = 32767; } else if (sample < -32768) { sample = -32768; } Is there a faster way to do this? (about ~6% of the total runtime seems to be spent on casting, while 6% seem to be not that much at first glance, its astounding when I consider that the processing part involves a good chunk of matrix multiplications and IDCT)

  I am attempting to design and build a website for my friends band. There is minimal content to be included such as bio,news,enbemdded Audio/Visual material. My web dev expertise is average. I'm basicaly looking for inspiration, I was edging towards embedding a silverlight deepzoom xap object to add some visual stimulation, perhaps by featuring a high res photo of the bandshardware/equipment which zooms when mouseover occurs. Does anyone have any cool ideas for a central feature for this site, and which way to approact it in terms of technique (js,css,silverlight etc) If anyone has any immediate ideas which they think would be cool then I am eager to hear them!   I am simply looking for the formula that should be used here. All the results I've found base "finding the bitrate" off of already existing video. I'm talking about LIVE streaming. (indeterminate length) So, I know some basic parts of it, but I just need to know if I'm right or missing anything. For Kbps: Resolution * Framerate / 1024 Is it really that simple? Audio would be a separate element for our purposes here. Am I missing anything from this formula? (Coming up with a proposal of what amount of bandwidth would be required, relative to possible resolution options, so I just need to be sure that I'm not missing anything or inaccurate about it)

• Optimum php.ini and my.cnf settings for a small Drupal 7 site on a virtual server

  I looking for advice on how to set up the default configuration of php.ini and my.cnf for a small site (100 pages) with very little traffic (300 visitors per day). All pages have a bit of text, some images, no video, no audio, no flash/silverlight, very little javascript and jquery. For tracking I'm using GA and Piwik. The main site database is around 50MB. The site is hosted on a virtual server with 20GB RAM and 6 vCPUs so there's hopefully a lot of muscle to make it run very fast. I don't know much about tweaking php and mysql settings and would appreciate it if your answers can be as detailed as possible. Thanks

I am trying to attach files to mail using, [mail addAttachmentData:attachmentData mimeType:@"image/png" fileName:fileName]; but the problem is that if i need to send a .jpeg image i need to repeat code just for setting mime type to "mimeType:@"image/jpeg". My question is that is there any general mimeType that can attach any kind of file irrespective of .doc,.ppt,.pdf or an audio or video file. is there any general mimeType: for an kind of attachment.
