• Windows Workflow Foundation 4.0 and WCF web service faults (soap fault)

  In my Workflow Foundation 4.0 RC app I have a 'Receive' and 'SendReplyToReceive' WCF messaging pair that work fine with a simple request/response operation, but I'm having trouble attempting to perform validation on the request and reply with a fault. In WCF I am able to create a throw custom fault contracts (which in turn sent out SOAP faults) but I just can't see how to achieve this with the built-in workflow messaging activities. I can only seem to response with a data transfer object (I'm not even able to respond with a choice of object). Any ideas? (Can you save my day yet again Maurice!?) Thanks!

  Lets say we have a website that uses a web service for all of its functionality (i.e. retrieving and updating data from/to db), how does the web service authenticate requests? As I understand it, in a traditional java "website" a user provides a username & password, and upon validation a jsessionid is assigned to the user (client browser). Every time the client browser asks the website for something, the site checks for the jsessionid ensuring that the user is registered and authenticated. Is there a web services equivalent of this? If yes, what?

• Is the usage of Isolated Storage in Silverlight 3 a security concern

  I am using Silverlight 3 on my website. I have a Login Page for role based authentication, that routes users with different privileges to different parts of the website. I want to use something analogous to the Session Variables available in standard ASP.Net applications. I intend to use Isolated Storage to achieve this. But I am skeptical about security in this option, as the Isolated Storage exists on the client side, and can be manipulated on client side. I am new to the Isolated Storage concept and don't know about the security options provided by it in terms of Encryption and server-side validation etc. If any of you have used it or are aware of the security provided in this case, could you please shed some light on the same.   I'm trying to create a simple login window with the very common 'Remember me' functionality. The login validation is done AJAX style, thus the browser won't remember my input. My approach is to use the built-in state functionality, but how to use it confuses me. • C# Pragma to suppress break on thrown error

  First off I run my applications with exceptions thrown on any error (handled or not). Second I am using a TypeConverter to convert from a user input string to the actual object.   I'm trying to setup josso on an apache tomcat server running on windows.   Greetings I am developing a non-webapplication using Spring+Hibernate. My question is how the HibernateDaoSupport handles lazy-loading , because after a call do DAO , the Session is closed.   Hi All, I get following hibernate error. I am able to identify the function which causes the issue. Unfortunately there are several DB calls in the function. I am unable to find the line which causes the issue since hibernate flush the session at the end of the transaction. The below mentioned hibernate error looks like a general error. it doesn't even mentioned which Bean causes the issue. Anyone familiar with this hibernate error? Looking forward your help. • Java HTML parser/validator

  We allow people to enter HTML code on our wiki-like site. But only a limited subset of HTML to not affect our styling and not allow malicious javascript code. Is there a good Java library on the server side to ensure that the code entered is valid? We tried creating an XML Schema document to validate against. The only issue there is the libraries we used to validate gave back cryptic error messages. What I want is for the validation library to actually fix the issue (if there was a style="" attribute added to an element, remove it). If fixing it is not easy, at least allow me to report a message to the user with the location of the error (an error code that I can present a nice message from is fine, probably even preferable).

• Regular expressions in findstr

  I'm doing a little string validation with findstr and its /r flag to allow for regular expressions. In particular I'd like to validate integers. The regex ^[0-9][0-9]*$ worked fine for non-negative numbers but since I now support negative numbers as well I tried ^([1-9][0-9]*|0|-[1-9][0-9]*)$ for either positive or negative integers or zero. The regex works fine theoretically. I tested it in PowerShell and it matches what I want. However, with findstr /r /c:"^([1-9][0-9]*|0|-[1-9][0-9]*)$" it doesn't. While I know that findstr doesn't have the most advanced regex support (even below Notepad++ which is probably quite an achievement), I would have expected such simple expressions to work. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?

• Removing non-alphanumeric characters in an Access Field.

  I need to remove hyphens from a string in a large number of access fields. What's the best way to go about doing this? Currently, the entries are follow this general format: 2010-54-1 2010-56-1 etc. I'm trying to run append queries off of this field, but I'm always getting validation errors causing the query to fail. I think the cause of this failure is the hypens in the entries, which is why I need to remove them. I've googled, and I see that there are a number of formatting guides using vbscript, but I'm not sure how I can integrate vb into Access. It's new to me :) Thanks in advance, Jacques

• dynamically create class in scala, should I use interpreter?

  Hi, I want to create a class at run-time in Scala. For now, just consider a simple case where I want to make the equivalent of a java bean with some attributes, I only know these attributes at run time. How can I create the scala class? I am willing to create from scala source file if there is a way to compile it and load it at run time, I may want to as I sometimes have some complex function I want to add to the class. How can I do it? I worry that the scala interpreter which I read about is sandboxing the interpreted code that it loads so that it won't be available to the general application hosting the interpreter? If this is the case, then I wouldn't be able to use the dynamically loaded scala class. Anyway, the question is, how can I dynamically create a scala class at run time and use it in my application, best case is to load it from a scala source file at run time, something like interpreterSource("file.scala") and its loaded into my current runtime, second best case is some creation by calling methods ie. createClass(...) to create it at runtime. The problem is that the error message it displays when a user enters an invalid postcode is this: 'POSTCODE' does not match against pattern '/^[a-z]{1,3}[0-9]{1,3} ?[0-9]{1,3}[a-z]{1,3}$/i' (where input was POSTCODE) How can I change this message to be a little more friendly?

I also saw that magic quotes will be deprecated in PHP 6. How will that affect the above code? I would prefer not to have to rely on a database-specific escaping function like mysql_real_escape_string().

  I have an edit view that is displaying some model properties as plain text and other model properties as input fields. My problem is that the model properties displayed as plain text are null when the model is returned to the view after a validation error. How do I retain the model values when I don't have input fields for all properties? What is best practice? So yes, Lego Mindstorms come to mind, but they aren't cubicle toys because they cost more than cubicle toys would, and they have too many losable parts. comments on the answers so far: The 20 Questions game sounds quite neat as it could get you thinking; The bean balls could be used as tokens in a problem, so I can see that working. The magnetic toys like ball of whacks or the ball-and-stick ones present hands on fun of a structural nature... now can there be a similar hands on fun toy that aids in representing a solution to a problem? The Gui Mags clearly could, but they're quite utility oriented. The AVR Butterfly is less of a toy but definitely priced attractively, cheaper and more responsive than a basic stamp. I'm not going to pick an answer; there's several great suggestions here. Thank you.

  Hi there, having a slight problem with an ASP.net page of mine. If a user were to double click on a "submit" button it will write to the database twice (i.e. carry out the 'onclick' method on the imagebutton twice) How can I make it so that if a user clicks on the imagebutton, just the imagebutton is disabled? I've tried: <asp:ImageButton runat="server" ID="VerifyStepContinue" ImageUrl=image src ToolTip="Go" TabIndex="98" CausesValidation="true" OnClick="methodName" OnClientClick="this.disabled = true;" /> But this OnClientClick property completely stops the page from being submitted! Any help? Sorry, yes, I do have Validation controls... hence the icky problem.

• Why is invalid value being thrown?

  I've got a DevExpress TextEdit which is databound to a dataset. The field is an optional percentage, (datatype double). When the record gets loaded and there is no value in the field, everything is fine. However, if you type something into the field (IE 100) and then want to remove it afterwards, I get an Invalid Value, error. Why does this occur, and how can I remove it? I do not have any mask or any sort of explicit validation on this field.
