• NHibernate: Can I access a generated primary key after saving a model?

  Howdy, So I've got a simple table with an ID field that's incrementally generated on INSERT. I've set the mapping up in NHibernate to reflect this: <id name="ID"> <generator class="identity" /> </id> And it all works fine. Trouble is, I need to get the generated ID after I've saved a new model to use elsewhere: var model = new MyModel(); session.SaveOrUpdate(model); But at this stage model.ID == null, not the ID. Any ideas? Anthony

• Maintaining the position of columns in Grails/GORM

  Is there a way to fix the position of the columns in a domain? I have this domain: class SnbrActVector { int nid String term double weight static mapping = { version false id(generator: 'assigned') } static constraints = { nid(blank:false) term(blank:false) weight(blank:false) } } This is the schema of the table generated: CREATE TABLE `fractor_grailsDEV`.`snbr_act_vector` ( `id` bigint(20) NOT NULL, `weight` double NOT NULL, `term` varchar(255) COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NOT NULL, `nid` int(11) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COLLATE=utf8_unicode_ci It seems that the order of the columns were reversed. Is there a way to make it like this? • What's the right way to handle "One, Both, or None" logic?

  I have a logic situation that is best described as two "Teams" trying to win a task. The outcome of this task could be a single winner, a tie (draw), or no winner (stalemate). Currently, I'm using a nested if/else statement like so: // using PHP, but the concept seems language agnostic. if ($team_a->win()) { if ($team_b->win()) { // this is a draw } else { // team_a is the winner } } else { if ($team_b->win()) { // team_b is the winner } else { // This is a stalemate, no winner. } } This seems rather spaghetti-like and repetitive. • How to implement an abstract class in ruby?

  I know there is no concept of abstract class in ruby. But if at all it needs to be implemented, how to go about it? I tried something like... class A def self.new raise 'Doh! You are trying to instantiate an abstract class!' end end class B < A ... ... end But when I try to instantiate B, it is internally going to call A.new which is going to raise the exception. Also, modules cannot be instantiated but they cannot be inherited too. making the new method private will also not work. Any pointers?

• DB2 Select - Replace STATES with two character code

  I have a Users Table where it stores city, state and country along with other Users attributes. The states are stored as California, Alabama and so forth. Now I want to retrieve the user information for certain records but the state should get translated to two digit code. Say 'California' should be 'CA'. How should I go about doing this. I was thinking to create a mapping table for state names with there abbreviation and then use some sort of replace function to do it. Any ideas ?

  I see some people write: //wordList is List<string> wordList.ForEach(delegate(string word){ Console.WriteLine(word);}); instead of: foreach(string word in wordList) { Console.WriteLine(word); } What is the advantage in doing so. Also I couldn't fathom the Action delegate syntax given above though I have used delegates in C# 2.0. Basically I am not able to relate the syntax with the concept of delegates I am familiar with. Can you please help me understand the syntax. Is it some shorthand?

  It seems like it should be a simple concept. I need a vertical list. This list has an image with a checkbox and pathname of that image underneath it. The user should be able to check the checkboxes of the images they want to appear in their "shopping cart". The images, checkbox label, and list are populated by an XmlList. How can I do this in Flex 3.5 and Actionscript and have a button that when clicked, display a list of the checked items??

• Force Response to Download File(s) to Desktop with Ruby?

  I was thinking about making a little crop/resize batch processor online, and wanted to know if there was a way for me to do the following: upload image and specify dimensions click "process" and remote app resizes image image downloads automatically locally to wherever it was I uploaded it (say from my desktop), but with a new name (based on the time for example). This would make it so I could host a free image processor that never stored any data other than tempfiles. Is that possible? Something like Rails' send_file method, but I'm using Sinatra and am looking for something in pure ruby. What's the basic concept behind this? What if I wanted to do this for multiple files? Åssuming I can get multiple files uploaded no problem, how can I download all of them automatically?

• "No row with the given identifier exists" although it DOES exist!

  Hello all! I am using Hibernate and getting Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.ObjectNotFoundException: No row with the given identifier exists: [<MyDbObject>#271] What is pretty weird about this error is, that the object with the given id exists in the database. I inserted the problematic record in another run of the application. If I access it in the same run (i.e. same hibernate session) there seem to be no problems retrieving the data. Just because it could be a fault of the mapping: public class ProblemClass { @ManyToOne(optional = false) private MyDbObject myDbObject; } public class MyDbObject { @OneToMany(mappedBy = "myDbObject") private List<ProblemClass> problemClasses; } I have absolutely no clue even where to look at. Any hints highly appreciated!

After unzipping, this is the structure of the files: executable_file config.mk doc include lib Makefile sources I have only worked with "usual" Makefile projects. But I do not undersatnd the meaning of config.mk here. Do you know which kind of "build" structure (what is the right name for this concept?) is it, and where can i find more information about this? I need to modify it, so it compiles in another hardware, so I do not know where I sohuld work on. Thanks

• Why hasn't anybody started a hosted continuous integration service?

  There's a dozen services that provide hosted version control, hosted ticket tracking, hosted project management, and combinations of all of the above, there's even hosted web-based IDEs. But nobody's yet offered a hosted continuous integration service; at least that I can find. The concept seems simple enough: I register and provide the URL to my source code repository, it grabs my code and builds it via ant/rake/whatever, then runs the suite of tests and some metrics (code coverage, performance, etc.). Is there some prohibitive barrier to entry I'm not considering?

• Getting .NET schema for a stored procedure result

  I have a couple of stored procedures in T-SQL where each stored procedure has a fixed schema for the result set. I need to map the result sets for each procedure to a POCO object and need the column name and type for each column in the result set. Is there a quick way of accessing the information? The best way I have found so far is accessing each stored procedure from .NET and writing my own extension method on a IDataReader/IDataRecord for dumping the information (column names and types) out. Example, a stored procedure executing the following query: SELECT Id, IntField, NullableIntField, VarcharField, DateField FROM SomeTable would require me to have the mapping information: Id - Guid IntField - System.Int32 NullableIntField - Nullable<System.Int32> VarcharField - String DateField - DateTime

• Simplest one-to-many Map case in Hibernate doesn't work in MySQL

  I think this is pretty much the simplest case for mapping a Map (that is, an associative array) of entities. @Entity @AccessType("field") class Member { @Id protected long id; @OneToMany(cascade = CascadeType.ALL, fetch=FetchType.LAZY) @MapKey(name = "name") private Map<String, Preferences> preferences = new HashMap<String, Preferences>(); } @Entity @AccessType("field") class Preferences { @ManyToOne Member member; @Column String name; @Column String value; } This looks like it should work, and it does, in HSQL. In MySQL, there are two problems: First, it insists that there be a table called Members_Preferences, as if this were a many-to-many relationship. Second, it just doesn't work: since it never populates Members_Preferences, it never retrieves the Preferences. [My theory is, since I only use HSQL in memory-mode, it automatically creates Members_Preferences and never really has to retrieve the preferences map. In any case, either Hibernate has a huge bug in it or I'm doing something wrong.]

• Seperate compilation in C++

  Suppose you are creating a class with multiple .cpp files (which each contain the implementation of a member function) and have the class' declaration in a .h file. Also, each .cpp file includes the .h file via the include directive. I was told that if you change the implementation of any of the member functions (.cpp files) that you will have to recompile every .cpp file in order to run the program. That is, if I had 5 member functions (each implemented in a .cpp file) and I changed the implementation of 1 of the .cpp files I would have to compile the 1 .cpp file I changed AND the 4 other .cpp files I didn't change in order to correctly run my program. My question, if the previous statement is true, is why is the statement is true? Any insight on this concept would be helpful.

  I've begun watching a series of first year lectures from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia, and I'm a bit perplexed by the instructors explanation of how an SRAM gate works. I realize this isn't exactly "programming-related" but since it comes from a series of lectures relating to computing and programming, I thought StackOverflow may be able to help (reddit failed me entirely). In this lecture beginning at around 32:12, Richard (the lecturer) tries to explain how a "latch gate" works within SRAM. Although his students seem to keep up, I feel I'm missing something crucial which is preventing the concept from really "clicking" in my brain.   Hi, Is there a way to provide AutoMapper with just a source and based on the specified mapping for the type of that source automatically determine what to map to?   Since I have given up on using the entity framework 4 as my ORM (getting it to work with MySQL and mapping table/field names like this_table/this_field to object naming like ThisTable/ThisField is POCO) I am now looking at NHibernate as it seems the the next big well know ORM for C# that probably with not die off any time soon. I am trying to lookup some tutorials and a lot of them in the configuration section have 2-2 in it and was wondering if those configuration would work with NHibernate 3? I am just curious if the 2-2 refers to the version of NHibernate or something different.

• How can I create an http handler to redirect all traffic to HTML pages?

  Our company would like to redirect all calls to html files on our server to a separate page. The html pages are NOT in an asp.net application. In order to do this, I've been writing and IIS Handler in asp.net. 1) Is this possible to add an IIS handler to redirect static content that isn't served by any asp.net engine, i.e. stand alone files on the server? 2) If it is possible, how do I do this? I created an http handler in a class library. In the app.config I added the handler to the and sections. I added the DLL to the GAC, I changed the html mapping to my custom IIS dll and nothing works. Is there a tutorial or explanation from A to B on how to do this? Thanks. E p.s. I'm using IIS 7.5

• Unity setting problem when defined in code

  I have problem when asking for default ILogger from Unity container. I have this setting defined in code (its VB.net) Dim container As IUnityContainer ... container.RegisterType(Of ILogger, NullLogger)() container.RegisterType(Of ILogger, EntLibLogger)("EL") When I am getting ILogger from container I may have different name, like: Ioc.Resolve(Of ILogger)("MyLogger") However this raises error as the mapping is not set for 'MyLogger'.   i've been doing some research on interfaces and a simple layman's explanation for what it truly is. For some reason people love using overly complex explanations and jargon to explain truly simple concepts (guess it makes them feel big) and i have a gut feeling it's the same in this case. so from what i could grasp, it seems like interfaces are nothing more than a way to reserve method names, their return type if any, and the type and amount of arguments they accept. so when a class implements an interface (or interfaces) it is forced to define the body of each method from the interface(s). Am i on the nose with this one or do i need to keep digging? p.s. i know javascript doesn't have support for interfaces, but i still need to understand the concept because there are quite a few places where it's shown how to emulate to an extent.

• How do I map repeating columns in NHibernate without creating duplicate properties

  Given a database that has numerous repeating columns used for auditing and versioning, what is the best way to model it using NHibernate, without having to repeat each of the columns in each of the classes in the domain model? Every table in the database repeats these same nine columns, the names and types are identical and I don't want to replicate it in the domain model. I have read the docs and I saw the section on inheritance mapping but I couldn't see how to make it work in this scenario. This seems like a common scenario because nearly every database I've work on has had the four common audit columns (CreatedBy, CreateDate, UpdatedBy, UpdateDate) in nearly every table. This database is no different except that it introduces another five columns which are common to every table.
