    Hello, Given I don't know if the parameter will be null or not and I want to use it in the following way: if Param != null then compare with its id if Param == null then compare with null. Something like that: var c = from cat in context.Categories where ParamCat != null && cat.ParentId == ParamCat.Id || ParamCat == null && cat.ParentId == null select c; If ParamCat is null as soon as I try to get something from c (for example c.Count()) it throws the exception. Usually when we use some kind of condition it stop comparison as soon as condition fail especially if we use AND. For example this code will not cause any exception: if (ParamCat != null && cat.ParentId == RaramCat.Id) { } If so, why the linq code above throw exception? (Null reference) Thanks

    In T-SQL, this is allowed: DECLARE @SelectedValue int SELECT @SelectedValue = MyIntField FROM MyTable WHERE MyPrimaryKeyField = 1 So, it's possible to get the value of a SELECT and stuff it in a variable (provided it's scalar, obviously). If I put the same select logic in a stored procedure: CREATE PROCEDURE GetMyInt AS SELECT MyIntField FROM MyTable WHERE MyPrimaryKeyField = 1 Can I get the output of this stored procedure and stuff it in a variable? Something like: DECLARE @SelectedValue int SELECT @SelectedValue = EXEC GetMyInt (I know the syntax above is not allowed because I tried it!)

  • Question About Eclipse Java Debugger Conditional Breakpoints Inefficiency

    I just set a conditional breakpoint in Eclipse's debugger with a mildly inefficient condition by breakpoint standards - checking whether a HashMap's value list (8 elements) contains Double.NaN. This resulted in an extremely noticeable slowdown in performance - after about five minutes, I gave up. Then I copy pasted the condition into an if statement at the exact same line, put a noop in the if, and set a normal breakpoint there. That breakpoint was reached in the expected 20-30 seconds. Is there something special that conditional breakpoints do that is different from this, or is Eclipse's implementation just kinda stupid? It seems like they could fairly easily just do exactly the same thing behind the scenes.

I've tried converting the comma separated values to a properly formatted array which still spits out1.     I've got a function that requires const some_type** as an argument (some_type is a struct, and the function needs a pointer to an array of this type). I declared a local variable of type some_type*, and initialized it. Then I call the function as f(&some_array), and the compiler (gcc) says: error: invalid conversion from ‘some_type**’ to ‘const some_type**’ What's the problem here? Why can't I convert a variable to const?

  • Wake up thread blocked on accept() call

    Sockets on Linux question I have a worker thread that is blocked on an accept() call. It simply waits for an incoming network connection, handles it, and then returns to listening for the next connection. When it is time for the program to exit, how do I signal this network worker thread (from the main thread) to return from the accept() call while still being able to gracefully exit its loop and handle it's cleanup code. Some things I tried: 1. pthread_kill to send a signal. Feels kludgy to do this, plus it doesn't reliably allow the thread to do it's shutdown logic. Also makes the program terminate as well. I'd like to avoid signals if at all possible. pthread_cancel. Same as above. It's a harsh kill on the thread. That, and the thread may be doing something else. Closing the listen socket from the main thread in order to make accept() abort. This doesn't reliably work. Some constraints: If the solution involves making the listen socket non-blocking, that is fine. But I don't want to accept a solution that involves the thread waking up via a select call every few seconds to check the exit condition. The thread condition to exit may not be tied to the process exiting.   • h:selectOneMenu not populating a 'selected' item

    I'm having trouble with an h:selectOneMenu not having a selected item when there is already something set on the backing bean. I am using seam and have specified a customer converter. When working on my 'creation' page, everything works fine, something from the menu can be selected, and when the page is submitted, the correct value is assigned and persisted to the database as well. However when I work on my 'edit' page the menu's default selection is not the current selection. i have gone through and confirmed that something is definitely set etc. My selectOneMenu looks like this: <h:selectOneMenu id="selVariable" value="#{customer.variableLookup}" converter="#{variableLookupConverter}"> <s:selectItems var="source" value="#{customerReferenceHelper.variableLookups()}" label="#{source.name}" /> </h:selectOneMenu> And the converter is below. But while I was debugging into the problem, while inspecting the SocketException, I found the walkback variable. arg0 SocketException (id=11532) cause SocketException (id=11532) detailMessage "Connection reset" stackTrace null walkback long[50] (id=11618) What do the values in this variable represent?
