• Simplest way to convert all html links in a string using PHP

  I am trying to convert a block of text that contains html text - i'd like to find all http links and convert them for link tracking purposes. • Code in Global.asax prevents webpage from loading

  I've made a static class to hold a number of configuration values (and also swap these values out in unit tests). If I initialise it in the Global.asax, the code runs correctly but the page doesn't load at all, and trying to navigate to a specific page fails. I can't initialise the values in a constructor or inline on the field declarations, because I need to be able to swap the values out in unit tests before the web.config is interrogated. Basically, putting the one line "ConfigClass.SetValues()" in the Global.asax prevents the app from loading correctly (although, as I say, it runs the code fine) and removing it again makes the app load properly - but without the class values initialised. As an aside, I'm sure I had this working correctly and being initialised in the Global.asax yesterday. I'm positive I didn't take any action to change or break it... Does anyone have advice on how I might track down what's going on here? Was I mistaken that it worked before (always possible) and that I need to go back and redesign something?

• Hide jQuery Accordion while loading

  I am testing a site build with a slow connection and I noticed the jQuery Accordion stays expanded for a long time, until the rest of the site is loaded, and then finally collapses. Not very pretty. I was wondering how I could keep it collapsed through the loading process and only expand when clicked. I am working with the standalone 1.6 version of the accordion plugin. Using an inline element in a UiBinder template. Modern GWT applications typically use a combination of CssResource and UiBinder. So my question is, when should I use a css file and create a CssResource for it, and when should I define styles directly in the ui.xml file using <ui:style>? Are there any performance implication (i.e. resource size to download on the client) with either of these ways?

• JavaScript OnClick Handler Not Invoking

  I'm calling a javascript function in an inline onclick like so: <a href="#" onclick="removeAttribute('foo', 'bar');">Some Link</a> When I click on the link, though, nothing happens. I have other links (to other functions) tied to onclicks that work fine elsewhere on the same page. All links to this "removeAttribute" function fail. There are no errors in Firebug, and the onclick event handler is being invoked - but stepping into the removeAttribute function ends up, for some reason, somewhere in jQuery.js. At no point does removeAttribute ever get called. If I do: javascript:removeAttribute('foo', 'bar'); in Firefox's address bar. The function is called successfully. Anyone seen this?

• CSS layout changes in Internet explorer

  My problem: I just coded a website that is styled just fine in chrome and firefox. However in internet explorer(9) it breaks. the gray header background is supposed to be pushed up to the right of the logo block, and the buttons are supposed to be in the dark grey area. • Is there a substitute for blockproc in Matlab?

  I've been using blockproc for processing images blockwise. Unfortunately, blockproc is part of the Image Processing Toolbox, which I don't have on my personal computer. Is there a combination of functions in base Matlab that can substitute for blockproc? My initial guess was to use im2col to transform each block into columns, and then arrayfun to process each column. Then I realized that im2col is also a part of the Image Processing Toolbox, so that doesn't solve my problem.

• Why do garbage collectors freeze execution?

  I was thinking about garbage collection on the way home, and I began wondering, why does the garbage collector totally freeze execution of a program? Personally I would have designed it to block any threads which try to allocate a new object, but threads which were running would be left alone. I can't imagine any situation where this would be a problem compared to how a garbage collector currently works.

  So I'm trying to write a simple TCP socket server that broadcasts information to all connected clients. So when a user connects, they get added to the list of clients, and when the stream emits the close event, they get removed from the client list. This works well, except that sometimes I'm sending a message just as a user disconnects. I've tried wrapping stream.write() in a try/catch block, but no luck. It seems like the error is uncatchable.

  The C++ comma operator is used to chain individual expressions, yielding the value of the last executed expression as the result. For example the skeleton code (6 statements, 6 expressions): step1; step2; if (condition) step3; return step4; else return step5; May be rewritten to: (1 statement, 6 expressions) return step1, step2, condition? step3, step4 : step5; I noticed that it is not possible to perform step-by-step debugging of such code, as the expression chain seems to be executed as a whole. Does it means that the compiler is able to perform special optimizations which are not possible with the traditional statement approach (specially if the steps are const or inline)? Note: I'm not talking about the coding style merit of that way of expressing sequence of expressions! Just about the possible optimisations allowed by replacing statements by expressions.

• Trappings MySQL Warnings on Calls Wrapped in Classes -- Python

  I can't get Python's try/else blocks to catch MySQL warnings when the execution statements are wrapped in classes. I have a class that has as a MySQL connection object as an attribute, a MySQL cursor object as another, and a method that run queries through that cursor object. The cursor is itself wrapped in a class. These seem to run queries properly, but the MySQL warnings they generate are not caught as exceptions in a try/else block. Why don't the try/else blocks catch the warnings? How would I revise the classes or method calls to catch the warnings? Also, I've looked through the prominent sources and can't find a discussion that helps me understand this. I'd appreciate any reference that explains this. Please see code below. • .NET and C# Exceptions. What is it reasonable to catch.

  Disclaimer, I'm from a Java background. I don't do much C#. There's a great deal of transfer between the two worlds, but of course there are differences and one is in the way Exceptions tend to be thought about. I recently answered a C# question suggesting that under some circstances it's reasonable to do this: try { some work } catch (Exeption e) { commonExceptionHandler(); } (The reasons why are immaterial). I got a response that I don't quite understand: until .NET 4.0, it's very bad to catch Exception. It means you catch various low-level fatal errors and so disguise bugs. It also means that in the event of some kind of corruption that triggers such an exception, any open finally blocks on the stack will be executed, so even if the callExceptionReporter fuunction tries to log and quit, it may not even get to that point (the finally blocks may throw again, or cause more corruption, or delete something important from the disk or database). May I'm more confused than I realise, but I don't agree with some of that. Please would other folks comment. I understand that there are many low level Exceptions we don't want to swallow. My commonExceptionHandler() function could reasonably rethrow those. This seems consistent with this answer to a related question. Which does say "Depending on your context it can be acceptable to use catch(...), providing the exception is re-thrown." So I conclude using catch (Exception ) is not always evil, silently swallowing certain exceptions is. The phrase "Until .NET 4 it is very bad to Catch Exception" What changes in .NET 4? IS this a reference to AggregateException, which may give us some new things to do with exceptions we catch, but I don't think changes the fundamental "don't swallow" rule. The next phrase really bothers be. Can this be right? It also means that in the event of some kind of corruption that triggers such an exception, any open finally blocks on the stack will be executed (the finally blocks may throw again, or cause more corruption, or delete something important from the disk or database) My understanding is that if some low level code had lowLevelMethod() { try { lowestLevelMethod(); } finally { some really important stuff } } and in my code I call lowLevel(); try { lowLevel() } catch (Exception e) { exception handling and maybe rethrowing } Whether or not I catch Exception this has no effect whatever on the excution of the finally block. By the time we leave lowLevelMethod() the finally has already run. If the finally is going to do any of the bad things, such as corrupt my disk, then it will do so. My catching the Exception made no difference. If It reaches my Exception block I need to do the right thing, but I can't be the cause of dmis-executing finallys

  I have right now this code: <ul><li class="listitem">text<li></ul> jQuery: $('.listitem').click(function() { $("#elname").text($(this).text()); $('#slists').css('visibility','hidden') $('#elname').css('visibility','visible') $('#elname').css('display','inline-block') }); This is supposed to hide a div and it does, but when I append items to the ul (with the class listitem) nothing happens with the appended item, the class it gets is correct, the title, and the value too. Can this have something to do with the code above being in the document ready function to do?

  I'm learning C++ and I am writing a function that determines whether a string contains only alphanumeric characters and spaces. I suppose I am effectively testing whether it matches the regular expression ^[[:alnum:] ]+$ but without using regular expressions. • CSS Position:Absolute with relative adjustment

  I am trying to do a vertical dropdown menu. This is my code .menu li:hover>ul{ position:absolute; display:inline; left:120px; top:100px;} I use position: Absolute to remove the sub-menu from the table, once the menu gets hovered. It appears that, if I do not indicate top or left property. The sub-menu will displayed relatively. Now I need to adjust the position relatively but seems that only the left property works. So my sub-menu left position is 120px relatively away from its original position. But the top is 100px away from the top of the window, rather then to the original position. How do I move the list up relative to it original position? I cant use position:relative because I need the sub-menu to be remove from the table.

Should I have a script block which loops through each item returned from Get-ChildItem and does a comparison to see if it's the most recent? I thought that there should be a handy PS cmdlet for that.
