  Hello, I am starting to learn the benefits of memcache, and would like to implement it on my project. I have understood most of it, such as how data can be retrieved by a key and so on. Now I get it that I can put a post with all of its details in memcache and call the key POST:123, that is OK, and I can do it for each post. But how to deal with the case when I query the table posts to get the list of all posts with their titles. Can this be done with memcache, or should this always be queried from the table?

  Hi, Could some one possibly clarify this for me. In the MVC paradigm, the idea is to keep the controller as thin as possible, it is also true that the model is the bit that communicates with data sources such as the database, XML-RPC etc and this is where the business logic should go. Is the POST and GET data a 'data source' and should that kind of data be handled by the model or should it be by the controller. I would normally call a method in the model and pass it the post data, the data would be quality checked by the controller and the model method would simply do the insertion or whatever. Should it be though that controller just calls the model method if a post has occured and it is responsible for sanity check, data checks etc.

  I'm using act_as_taggable_on and Active Admin on a Rails project. In that project there are Posts and each Post has Tags. I want to show a list of Tags in Active Admin and the number of ocurrences of each one. The way I found to do this was: index do column :name column :ocurrences do |tag| ocurrences = Post.tag_counts.find(tag.id).count end default_actions end Which will search the Tag List every time for every Post, which performance wise looks really bad. I would also like to be able to sort the tags by ocurrence. Any idea of how I can do it?

  So i have a problem with the facebook og:image. site: http://images.vallo-app.com/4db279b31df280b/ if people use this link to show their image, its no problem, facebook loads the og:image But it is used in an iPhone App, so people make a picture and get a shortened url of bit.ly back and then they can post it. So if you post it, facebook juts doesn't show the preview of the image, but if you post that shortened bit.ly link on facebook.com in the statusupdate it does. Someone know what the problem is?

  Hey guys I have a query and it works fine, but I want to add another table to the mix. The invite table I want to add has two fields: username and user_invite. Much like this site, I am using a point system to encourage diligent users. The current query which is displayed below adds the up votes and down votes based on the user in question: $creator. I want to count the number of entries for that same user from the invite table, and add 50 for each row it finds to the current output/sum of my query. Is this possible with one query, or do I need two? • Keeping remote files synced with local files?

  Hello, When developing web applications, how does one keep local files and remote files synced together? There is the obvious way, whenever you edit a file on your local machine, just upload that file to the remote machine. Is there a more efficient way? I ask because I have been using subversion control, and it is so easy to keep files synced on a remote server. All I have to do is "commit" and it will find the files which need to be replaced.

• How to remove space under images?

  So here's my problem, there's a small white space showing up under the pictures on my tumblr, but the space only shows up under photosets, not under photos. I have on my CSS: #post{padding:10px;} #post img{display:block;} And then on my html: {block:Posts} <div id="post"> {block:Photo}<img src="{PhotoURL-500}"/>{/block:Photo} {block:Photoset}{Photoset-500}{/block:Photoset} </div> {/block:Posts} But the photoset adds a 3px space under the images, turning the padding to 13px for no reason. Can someone help me figure out this?

  I'm building a site with a hashchange on wordpress, all working good. It just loads a single.php template file into a div. The problem is that i can still access my single url (http://www.mydomain.com/my-single-post). Since its not having any head and style tags with it, i don't want people to go over there. Also google has picked up the direct links, because I use the href attribute to load content into the div. So my question is: If someone clicks a link lets say in a forum, http://www.mydomain.com/my-single-post , is it possible to redirect him instantly to http://www.mydomain.com/#my-single-post ? I have researched that it has something to do with .htaccess, but I also have Pages, where i don't want the hash infront of the page-name.

  We have an SVN setup and there are some things we dislike about it and some things we like about it. We want to move to git, but we're not sure exactly what setup will work for us. We're currently using SVN (w/ Authz) + Apache (w/ WebDAV & LDAP). Hook to update the live site [like] Live site update requires no additional interaction [like] Live site update uses stored password [dislike] Commits require centralized-password authentication [like] Commit from live site changes stored credentials [dislike] Access control (per repository) for commits [like] Point 5 above is the one that keeps stuffing us up. Someone makes a commit from the live site and then the hook breaks. We're thinking to use gitosis/gitolite to get access control, but as they use ssh keys, we won't be requiring passwords. We're also thinking to use git-http-backend, and use Apache for authentication, but then do we lose access control? Can the live site be automatically updated from a hook if Apache requires authentication? Can we combine git-http-backend and gitosis/gitolite somehow? Can we store http credentials with git?

• How to set up Git on remote instance using keys from local machine?

  I have a setup where I can ssh into my remote server (ie a Google Compute instance) from my local machine. I used to be able to clone, push, and pull from a repository on my remote instance without adding any keys to my remote instance, nor adding any new keys to my repository online (just the public key from my local machine). I believe the remote instance was using the keys from my local machine to authenticate my Git pushes and pulls. However, the system broke when I reinstalled the OS on my local machine. Now I when I try to connect with the Github server from my remote instance, I get the following: Cannot clone: [lucas@ecoinstance]~/node$ git clone [email protected]:lucasExample/test.git test Cloning into 'test'... Permission denied (publickey). fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly Cannot push: [lucas@ecoinstance]~/node/nodetest1$ git status # On branch master # Your branch is ahead of 'origin/master' by 1 commit. # nothing to commit (working directory clean) [lucas@ecoinstance]~/node/nodetest1$ git push Permission denied (publickey). fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly Additional info: [lucas@ecoinstance]~/node/nodetest1$ ssh-add -l Could not open a connection to your authentication agent. I can still clone, push, and pull on my local machine, it is just my remote machine that cannot get authentication. My local OS is Ubuntu 14.04 and my remote OS is Debian Wheezy. Any suggestions would be great. I am not sure how to search for this concept where I can authenticate from a remote instance via my local machine, so any reference are appreciated as well.

• Setup staging with multiple SVN

  We are a startup, setting new environments for product to be released soon. Planned server structure with planned release flow is as shown in below image It ideally have a local server (or Staging server, shown in green) in local office, without public IP address and Production Server (Red) at Amazon EC2. Both local and production server have there own SVN copy. Management here want to update production server with production SVN and without providing its access to developers (including freelancers/contract employees). So for developers, there is a Local SVN on local server. Another purpose of local SVN to keep a copy of code on local server, which is under our direct control. Although there are some technical concerns like how will code at local server will be updated from local SVN and commit on production SVN but bigger question is, is that structure correct? Major requirement remain don't provide production SVN access to developers. What are other possible options to achieve that? Another minor question, if suitable here, if above structure is correct, is it possible for a SVN checkout to get updated from one SVN (Local SVN) but commit to other (Production SVN)? If yes, How? edit An answer has been accepted but for bounty, I'm still looking for answer Is that structure correct? Its pros/Cons? Technical solution is already provided by accepted answer.

• Permission problem with Git (over SSH) on FreeBSD

  We're having permission problem with Git on FreeBSD. The setup is fairly straight forward. We have a few different repos on the same server. For simplicity, let's say they reside in /git/repo1 and /git/repo2. Each repo is owned by the user 'git' and a self-titled group (eg. repo1). The repo is configured with g+rwX access. Every user who commits to the repository is also member of the group for the repo (eg. repo1). The Git repositories all have 'sharedRepository = group' set. So far so good, all users can check out the code from the repositories, and the first user can commit without any problem. However, when the next user tries to commit to the repositories, he will receive a permission error. We've been banging our heads with this issue for some time now, and the only way we've managed to resolve it is by running the following script between commits (which is obviously very inconvenient): find /git/repo1 -type d -exec chmod g+s {} \; chmod -R g+rwX /git/repo1 chown -R git:repo1 /git/repo1/ cd /git/repo1 git gc Anyone got a clue to where the problem lies?

• Is there any way to synchronize Outlook RSS Feeds with BlackBerry?

  Does anyone know how I can view the contents of my Outlook 2007 RSS Feeds from a corporate-issued BlackBerry? Our Inbox and Calendar are already integrated with corporate exchange servers but it looks like nobody cares too much about the RSS Feeds. Is there some setting on my Blackberry or in Outlook I could possibly tweak to include these updates? I know there are many standalone RSS readers available for blackberry (Google Reader for example) but I mention Outlook RSS Feeds specifically in my question because I am subscribing to a number of RSS feeds I've setup on my intranet for various version control systems that would be inaccessible to an external RSS reader. It seems like I might have to setup some sort of email commit notifications if I want anything from my blackberry but I much prefer the 'pull' method of an RSS feed viewer over receiving streams of emails. Please feel free to suggest any alternatives! Edit: I've additionally tried moving my "SVN Repository" folder directly into my Mailbox instead of keeping it as a child of the RSS Feeds folder. This allows me to view the SVN Repository folder on my blackberry where previously the RSS Feeds folder and all children were hidden but unfortunately it never seems to get populated with the items that are displaying in Outlook. I've even made a fresh commit to make sure that the SVN Repository folder still works correctly in Outlook from outside the RSS Feeds folder but no luck on the BlackBerry end of things.   I have a Centos server acting as a NAT in my network. This server has one external (later ext1) interface and three internal (later int1, int2 and int3). Egress traffic comes from users via int1 and after MASQUERADE goes via ext1.
