• Problems with i18n using django translation on App-Engine with Korean and Hindi

  I've got a setup based on the post here, and it works perfectly. Adding more languages to the mix, it recognises them fine, except for Korean (ko) and Hindi (hi). Chinese/Japanese/Hebrew are all fine, so nothing to do with encodings/charsets I don't think. Taking a look into the django code inside the app-engine SDK, I notice that all the languages that I'm using except for ko and hi are ones that ship with django - in the default settings.py and inside the locale folder they are missing. If I copy one of the locale folders inside the /usr/local/google_appengine/lib/django[...]/conf/locale and rename it to be 'ko', then it starts working in my app, but I won't be able to replicate this modification when I deploy to app-engine, so need a bit of help understanding what I might be doing wrong. my settings.py is definitely being taken into account, as if I remove languages from there then they stop working (as they should). If I copied the django modules into my app, under 'lib' there say, could I use those instead of the ones app-engine tries to use, maybe? I'm brand new to python/django/app-engine, and developing on a Mac with Leopard, if that makes any difference. I have the latest app-engine SDK as of tuesday.

• Broken JS Loop with Google Maps...

  My code is below, and I had an issue with nearly the same code, and it was fixed here on StackOverflow, but, again, its not working. I haven't changed the working code, but i did wrap it in the for...in loop youll see below. • Disabling browser print options (headers, footers, margins) from page?

  I have seen this question asked in a couple of different ways on SO and several other websites, but most of them are either too specific or out-of-date. I'm hoping someone can provide a definitive answer here without pandering to speculation. Is there a way, either with CSS or javascript, to change the default printer settings when someone prints within their browser? And of course by "prints from their browser" I mean some form of HTML, not PDF or some other plug-in reliant mime-type. Please note: If some browsers offer this and others don't (or if you only know how to do it for some browsers) I welcome browser-specific solutions. Similarly, if you know of a mainstream browser that has specific restrictions against EVER doing this, that is also helpful, but some fairly up-to-date documentation would be appreciated. (simply saying "that goes against XYZ's security policy" isn't very convincing when XYZ has made significant changes in said policy in the last three years). Finally, when I say "change default print settings" I don't mean forever, just for my page, and I am referring specifically to print margins, headers, and footers. I am very aware that CSS offers the option of changing the page orientation as well as the page margins. One of the many struggles is with Firefox. If I set the page margins to 1 inch, it ADDS this to the half inch it already puts into place. I very much want to reduce the usage of PDFs on my client's site, but the infringement on presentation (as well as the lack of reliability) are their main concern.

• Visual SourceSafe (VSS): "Access to file (filename) denied" error

  Hi, can anybody help with the above SourceSafe error? I've spent hours trying to find a fix. I've also Googled the heck out of it but couldn't find a scenario matching mine, because in my case only a few files (not all) are affected. Here's what I found: only a few files in my project generate this error other files in the same directory (for example, App_Code has one of the problem files) work fine I've tried checking out from both the VSS client and Visual Studio another developer can check out the main problem file without any problems This sounds like a permission issue for my user, right? However: I found the location of one of the problem files in VSS's data directory (using VSS's naming format, as in 'fddaaaaa.a') and checked its permissions; everything looks fine and its permissions match those of other files I can check out successfully I can see no differences in the file properties between working and non-working files What else can I check? Has anyone encountered this problem before and found a solution? Thanks. P.S.: SourceGear, svn or git are not options, unfortunately. P.P.S.: Tried unsuccessfully to add tag "sourcesafe." EDIT: Hey Paddy, I tried to click 'add comment' to respond to your comment, but I'm getting a javascript error when loading this page in IE8 ("jquery undefined," etc.) so this isn't working. This is when checking out files, and yes, I've obliterated my local copy more times than I can remember. ;) EDIT 2: Thanks for the responses, guys (again I can't 'add comment' due to jQuery not loading, maybe blocked as discussed in Meta). If the problem was caused by antivirus or a bad disk, would other users still be able to check out the file(s)? That's the case here, which makes me think it's a permission issue specific to my account. However I've looked at the permissions and they match both other users' settings and settings on other files which I can check out.

• Differences in accessing resources between Simulator and Device?

  Is there some difference between the way that bundle resources can be accessed on the iPhone simulator versus a device (in my case, an iPad)? I am able to access a file on the former, but not the latter. • C# comparing two files regex problem.

  Hi everyone, what I'm trying to do is open a huge list of files (about 40k records, and match them on a line in a file that contains 2 millions records. And if my line from file A matches a line in file B write out that line. • WCF service not working after program update

  I have recently added a WCF service reference to my program. When I perform a clean install of this program, everything seems to work as expected. But, when I install the program on a client which already has a previous version (without the new service reference) installed, I get a exception telling me the default endpoint for this particular service could not be found. It seems that the appname.exe.config is not being updated with the new endpoint settings. Is there any reason for this and how can I force the installer to overwrite the config file? I'm using the default Visual Studio 2008 installer project with RemovePreviousVersions set to True. • Cannot change font size /type in plots

  I recently had to re-install my operating system (Ubuntu). The only thing I did differently is that I installed Matlab on a separate partition, not the main Ubuntu partition. After re-installing, the fonts in my plots are no longer configurable. For example, if I ask the title font to be bold, it doesn't happen. I ran the sample code below on my computer and then on my colleague's computer and the 2 results are attached. This cannot be a problem with the code; rather in the settings of Matlab. Could somebody please tell me what settings I need to change? Thanks in advance for your help. • Could not load SWT library on Windows 32-bit

  I am almost done with one Java project that I have been developing on Linux. Now I need to build and test it on Windows. So I have installed Eclipse on Windows XP 32-bit, and imported my project. All dependencies of project are in jar files in lib folder, and on Linux everything works well, but on Windows XP I get following error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Could not load SWT library. • Python logging in Django

  I'm developing a Django app, and I'm trying to use Python's logging module for error/trace logging. Ideally I'd like to have different loggers configured for different areas of the site. So far I've got all of this working, but one thing has me scratching my head. I have the root logger going to sys.stderr, and I have configured another logger to write to a file. This is in my settings.py file: sviewlog = logging.getLogger('MyApp.views.scans') view_log_handler = logging.FileHandler('C:\\MyApp\\logs\\scan_log.log') view_log_handler.setLevel(logging.INFO) view_log_handler.setFormatter(logging.Formatter('%(asctime)s %(name)-12s %(levelname)-8s %(message)s')) sviewlog.addHandler(view_log_handler) Seems pretty simple. Here's the problem, though: whatever I write to the sviewlog gets written to the log file twice. The root logger only prints it once. It's like addHandler() is being called twice. And when I put my code through a debugger, this is exactly what I see. The code in settings.py is getting executed twice, so two FileHandlers are created and added to the same logger instance. But why? And how do I get around this? Can anyone tell me what's going on here? I've tried moving the sviewlog logger/handler instantiation code to the file where it's used (since that actually seems like the appropriate place to me), but I have the same problem there. Most of the examples I've seen online use only the root logger, and I'd prefer to have multiple loggers.

• Why doesn't this short php script send email?

  I can't seem to get my php script to send email. <?php echo "Does this page work?"; mail('my email address', 'test subject', 'test message'); ?> First, I have set the mail function settings in the php.ini file as follows: I checked my email account settings on outlook. It does not require authentication, its port is 25, and its type of encrypted connection is 'Auto'. Given this I configured my php.ini file accordingly: SMTP = ssl://smtp1.iis.com smtp_port = 25 Then I set: sendmail_from: my email address The echo statement prints out in the browser, so I know the php file is recognized and processed. But the browser also shows the following error: Warning: mail() [function.mail]: "sendmail_from" not set in php.ini or custom "From:" header missing in C:\xampp\htdocs\mailtest.php on line 3 I have clearly set the sendmail_from so I don't know what else to do. I have also tried removing the 'ssl://' part from the SMTP setting in the php.ini file, and configuring the php5.ini file. Which of these .ini files should I be configuring anyways?

• File URI link to local folder in IE7 not working

  No matter what I do I cannot get either of these local File URIs: <a href="file://C:/Folder/">...</a> <a href="file://C|/Folder/">...</a> <a href="C:\">...</a> ... ...to work in IE7 (on Vista). I've tried putting the site in different zones (Local Intranet, Trusted Sites), turning on/off Protected Mode and fiddling with the security settings for the active zone. I've also tried many variations of the URI. But when I click the links, nothing happens. No errors either. Well-formed file URIs to the local file system work in all other browsers I've tried, including IE6 and IE8. I've also gathered from what I've read on the web that this should work. Also, the following JavaScript results in an access-denied error, regardless of zone/settings: <a href="#" onclick="return window.open('C:\\Folder\\');">#</a> Did this stop working in the latest IE7 and/or the latest Vista, or something? And if so, why is it working again in IE8 on Windows 7? Is there a workaround of some kind? (I don't know how to test with IE7 on anything other than Vista.)

• Joomla ImageBrowser Lightbox not working

  I've been using an image browser for Joomla called ImageBrowser. It's great - easy uploads, easy for clients to use, even handles zip file uploads. I have Joomla v. 1.5.15 installed and the newest version of this plugin as well on 3 or 4 of our sites with no fuss or issues. Recently, the ImageBrowser on one of our sites started acting strangely. It was as if the Lightbox effect that we should have disappeared completely. I compared the settings for the site to another and found they were identical. You can compare that to another of our sites with the same plugin and settings at South Oak Floors dot COM. You should be able to click on a thumbnail and get a full size view of the image in a Lightbox. Any help much needed and much appreciated.

  Below I have a "button" (just a span with an icon) that creates a pop-up view of a div in my application to allow users to compare information in seperate windows. • How to Create the Upload File for Application Loader?

  When I use Application Loader, I get to the point where it asks me to "Choose..." the file to be uploaded. If I understand correctly, it supposes to be the appName.app file I see under "Products" on my app bundle (I right click it and select "Show in Finder" to get to the specific file in library; then I'm supposed to ZIP it and the ZIP file is what I will choose in Application Loader). First, am I correct with this assumption? if yes... What should I define different in XCode than the way I used to build the application for testing (on simulator and on my personal iPhone)? Should I change the Info---Command-line build use from Debug to Release? How should I define the Build Settings---Code Signing section (in which field should I select the "iPhone Developer" option and in which should it be "iPhone Distribution")? Are there any other important Info/Build Settings/p.list/etc... fields I should relate to? any help will be appreciated...

• Set bounds for markers generated by jQuery table loop?

  I have some jQuery code that goes through a table of location results and puts corresponding pins on a map. I am having trouble figuring out how to set the bounds so that when it goes through the loop and generates the markers on the map that it zooms and pans to fit the markers in the view. I've tried implementing code from some similar questions on this site but nothing seems to be working. • Can't open COM1 from application launched at startup

  I'm using WinLIRC with IR receiver connected to serial port COM1 on Windows 7 x64. WinLIRC is added to Startup folder (Start-All applications-Startup) so it starts every time I log in. Very often (but not all the time) I see initialization error messages from WinLIRC, which continue for some time (couple of minutes) if I retry initialization, and after some retries it initializes correctly and works fine. If I remove it from Startup and start manually at any other moment it starts without errors. I've downloaded WinLIRC sources and added MessageBox calls here and there so I can see what happens during initialization and found out that CreateFile call fails: if((hPort=CreateFile( settings.port,GENERIC_READ | GENERIC_WRITE, 0,0,OPEN_EXISTING,FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED,0))==INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { char buffer[256]; sprintf_s(buffer, "CreateFile(%s) failed with %d", settings.port, GetLastError()); MessageBox(NULL, buffer, "debug", MB_OK); hPort=NULL; return false; } I see message box saying "CreateFile(COM1) failed with 5", and 5 is an error code for "Access denied" error according to this link. So the question is why opening COM-port can fail with such error right after booting Windows and proceed normally few seconds or minutes later?

• APC decreasing php performance??? (php 5.3, apache 2.2, windows vista 64bit)

  Hi, I have an Apache/2.2.15 (VC9) and PHP/5.3.2 (VC9 thread safe) running as an apache module on Vista 64bit machine. All running fine. Project that I'm benchmarking (with apache's ab utility) is basically standard Zend Framework project with no db connection involved. Average (median) apache response is about 0.15 seconds. After I've installed APC (3.1.4-dev VC9 thread safe) with standard settings suddenly the request response time raised to 1.3 seconds (!), which is unacceptable... All apc settings looked always good (through the apc.php script: enough shm memory, no cache full, fragmentation 0%). Only difference was to disable the stats lookup (apc.stat = 0). Then the response dropped to 0.09 seconds which was finally better than without the apc. IIRC, it's expected and obvious that the stat lookup creates some overhead, but shouldn't it still be far more performant compared to running wihout the apc extension at all? Or put it differently why is the apc.stat creating so much overhead? Apparently, something is not working as it should, I don't really know where to start looking.   I'm running MOSS 2007 and have created a new site under an existing one using sitemanager.aspx. I've done this on two machines. on one of those everything works correctly, while on the other some of the menu items for pages in the site seem to be gone. Also on the faulty site I get "Access denied" when I click "Version history". The permissions on both sites should be the same. I attach a screenshot of how the menus differ from each other. The one to the right (the faulty one) is unfortunately not in English but the items appearing on it are "Open link in a new window", "Copy", "Edit page settings" and "Version history". • Configure Django project in a subdirectory using mod_python. Admin not working.

  HI guys. I was trying to configure my django project in a subdirectory of the root, but didn't get things working.(LOcally it works perfect). I followed the django official django documentarion to deploy a project with mod_python. The real problem is that I am getting "Page not found" errors, whenever I try to go to the admin or any view of my apps. • Binding the selected value from a combobox to a member of a class.

  I have a combobox that is bound to a an instance of a class. I need to get the user's selection ID of the combobox and set a class property equal to it. • Granting administrator privileges to an application launched at startup without UAC prompt?

  Background I've written a small C#/.NET 4.0 application that syncs various settings from a game installed in Program Files to and from other copies of the same game on different machines (think Chrome bookmark sync, but for this game). The sync itself is a relatively simple affair, dealing with files stored inside the game's Program Files folder. On my machine, this works fine without having to elevate my application through UAC. Windows 7 makes the game use Program Files virtualisation and my application works fine with that. However, on a lot of tester's machines, I'm getting reports that the application either can't work with the files and in come cases can't even see the game's folder! Having the user right-click and "Run as Administrator" solves the problem in every case. So, we just set the application's manifest to require admin privileges, right? That's fine (although not ideal) for when the user manually invokes the application or the sync process because they'll be interacting with the application and ready to accept a UAC request. However, one of the features of my application is a "Sync Automatically" option, which allows the user to "set and forget" the application. With this set, the application puts itself into the registry at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run to be run at startup and sits in the system tray syncing the settings in the background as needed. Obviously, I need to be smarter here. Presenting a UAC prompt as soon as the user logs in to their account or at random intervals afterwards isn't the way forwards. So, my question! What's the best way to approach a situation where I'd need to run an application at startup that needs administrator privileges? Is there a way to have the user authorise an installation that causes the system to automatically run the application with the correct privileges without a prompt at startup/login?

• RewitePath on IIS7 with .Net 3.5 or 4.0 - The resource cannot be found.

  In Global.asax handle errors by trying to redirect users to another page without changing the url in the address bar, that's why I am using RewritePath and not Redirect. void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Code that runs when an unhandled error occurs Context.RewritePath("~/Error.aspx", false); } Error.apsx in same root folder as About.aspx, and Default.aspx pages which of course work. Not sure I am having this issue. Have the following web.config file settings that I thought may be relevant: IIS7 settings: Application "TestRewriteUrl" under Default Web Site on DefaultAppPool. This example my seem trivial but I cannot use IIS7 HTTP Redirect as I actually was using this example to keep it simple. What I want to ultimately do is have a user type in http://www.somesite.com/myownpage and have it rewrite the path to another page in the same application directory by looking up the "myownpage" in the database to see what database id they have and redirect them to the correct "microsite" based on that without the user noticing a url change. Kind of like when you go to a blogging engine and no matter where in your blog you go the url remains the same. I don't want the user to go from http://www.mysite.com/tomshardware to http://www.mysite.com?id=8734656856. So that is why I used the simply example above to try and understand why the rewrite path does not work.
