  • Switch to tab by typing a substring of its name in Visual Studio 2005

    - by Vineus
Is there a way to navigate between tabs in VS similar to the emacs iswtichb-mode or Firefox ubiquity switch tab mode (https://wiki.mozilla.org/Labs/Ubiquity/Ubiquity_0.1_Author_Tutorial#Switching_Tabs) ? In these apps, you just type a substring of the title of the tab (or buffer for emacs) to switch to this tab. For instance, to switch to a tab named "App_Code/Data/MyProgram.cs", you just invoke the tab switching command and then type "Progr" for instance to list all the tab whose name matches this string, including "MyProgram.cs". It's much easier to switch between tabs this way when you have a lot of documents open and when you now where to go (which is the case in most situation) Thank you !

  • Windows Phone 7 SDK and Visual Studio 2010 RTM

    - by Alex DeLarge
Hmmm, wonder if I have the first VS 2010 RTM question? Anyway.. Installing the Windows Phone 7 SDK I get the following error Incompatible Products VC 10.0 Runtime .NET Framework 4 Multi-Targeting Pack Microsoft.NET Framework 4 Client Profile Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended This was reported as an issue with Beta 2 and the fix was to install the RC. Anyone know why it's incompatible with the RTM? Will we have to wait for an update to the SDK? Regards, Alex..

  • Visual Studio HTML Cursor-within-HTML-Element Syntax-highlighting color

    - by David Murdoch
I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to change grey highlight color in the screenshot below to something that will make the text a little more legible. Does anyone know what the "Display Item" name is that I need to change? To get to the "theme editor" select Tools = Options = Environment = Fonts and Colors. I can't find what to edit. I've also looked through Tools = Options = Text Editor = HTML = Formatting to no avail. In case you are wondering the theme is a slightly modified Coding Instinct Theme

  • No memory window in Visual Studio 2010

    - by Fredrik Jansson
I have VS2010 Premium RTM version on Windows 7 Ultimate x64. In the documentation they refer to the Memory 1-4 windows, supposedly under Debug-Windows-Memory. I have "Enable address-level debugging" enabled in VS (Options-Debugging). The problem is that I have no Memory menu item under Debug-Windows during debug of a c++ program. Under Debug-Windows I have only: Breakpoints Parallel Tasks Parallel Stacks Watch - Locals Call Stack Threads Have anyone else experienced this (and hopefully solved it)?

  • Visual Studio Database Professional GDR R2 takes a long time to serialize DBMDL file

    - by Nicolas Webb
The amount of time it takes to completely serialize the DBMDL (to finish "Your project will be available after 10000 operations are completed) is becoming a hindrance to productivity. I've done what I can to optimize disk activity (excluding my personal TEMP folder from the virus scanner, along with my local source repository). Short of getting a SSD I'm not sure what else I can do along those lines. I believe it has something to do with how the project is organized. The finished DBMDL file is roughly 150MB. Others throughout our organization do not seem to have this issue. Anyone had to deal with this?

  • Visual Studio 2010 Team Explorer

    - by Sruly
I just installed VS2010 and I want to connect to TFS, But I don't have any team explorer options. I searched for Team Explorer and I found this link that states that Team Explorer comes preinstalled in VS2010 Team Suit. I downloaded VS2010 Pro and don't have team explorer and can't find it anywhere. Any ideas? Tips? Thanks

  • Linker errors between multiple projects in Visual C++

    - by rlbond
Hi, I have a solution with multiple projects. I have a "main" project, which acts as a menu and from there, the user can access any of the other projects. On this main project, I get linker errors for every function called. How do I avoid these linker errors? I set the project dependencies already in the "Project Dependencies..." dialog. Thanks EDIT -- I did as suggested and added the output folder to the linker's additional directories. Now, however, I get a million errors as follows: 3msvcprtd.lib(MSVCP90D.dll) : error LNK2005: "public: void __thiscall std::basic_ios ::setstate(int,bool)" • Does your Visual Studio2008 hang after installing Office 2010?

    - by Junior Mayhé
Wierd.... Late nite I installed Office 2010 Professional Plus. Here I am, the next morning, and Visual Studio 2008 is freezing, like there "was some invisible dialog window", because it doesn't allow me to click on any IDE element. In brief, after I open a ASP.MVC form, suddenly I'm not allowed to click on anything, icon, dock panel, toolbox, nothing... Anyone has this kind of problem?

  • Edit comment template in Visual Studio

    - by Patrick
I have poked around and getting the feeling that it isn't possible, however I was wondering if anyone knew how to edit the code comment templates for C# in VS 2010. I was able to change the class file template so it would seem like the ability it there to do it manually, but I have no idea where MS would stick the file. Any insight would be great, patrick

  • Where does one get Visual Source Safe 2005?

    - by strongopinions
I would like to install VSS 2005 so I can work on a project that is stored under it. Does anyone have any idea where the VSS 2005 client can be obtained? It does not appear to be on my VS2005 install disc (although that is for Team Suite). I cannot get any help from Google. I have an MSDN license (AA edition) but it doesn't seem to be there. This is a real product right? Just to clarify preemptively based on some of the discussions I see on Google when I search for things like "VSS 2005," I am aware of the flaws in VSS and I still need to get it working; I am not interested in converting the project to Subversion; I am not able to transfer it to TFS; I am not able to upgrade the project to VS2008. Thanks.

  • JavaScript method to write to Microsoft Visual Web Developer Debugger?

    - by Josh
I generally test my web apps with Firefox and use Firebug. I love Firebug. But when I'm testing JavaScript code in IE I use the debugger in Microsoft's Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition. I would love to have an equivalent to Firebug's console.log methods which would allow me to log messages to Visual Web Developer. Any way to log messages to the error list/messages list/output pane using JavaScript?

  • macro collapse all in solution visual studio 2010

    - by rod
Hi All, I found the CollapseAll macro online that has worked for me in vs2005 and vs2008. However, this half way works in vs2010. It looks like it only collapses the top nodes and not any subnodes that may be expanded? any ideas? Thanks, rod. Sub CollapseAll() ' Get the the Solution Explorer tree Dim UIHSolutionExplorer As UIHierarchy UIHSolutionExplorer = DTE.Windows.Item(Constants.vsext_wk_SProjectWindow).Object() ' Check if there is any open solution If (UIHSolutionExplorer.UIHierarchyItems.Count = 0) Then ' MsgBox("Nothing to collapse. You must have an open solution.") Return End If ' Get the top node (the name of the solution) Dim UIHSolutionRootNode As UIHierarchyItem UIHSolutionRootNode = UIHSolutionExplorer.UIHierarchyItems.Item(1) UIHSolutionRootNode.DTE.SuppressUI = True ' Collapse each project node Dim UIHItem As UIHierarchyItem For Each UIHItem In UIHSolutionRootNode.UIHierarchyItems 'UIHItem.UIHierarchyItems.Expanded = False If UIHItem.UIHierarchyItems.Expanded Then Collapse(UIHItem) End If Next ' Select the solution node, or else when you click ' on the solution window ' scrollbar, it will synchronize the open document ' with the tree and pop ' out the corresponding node which is probably not what you want. UIHSolutionRootNode.Select(vsUISelectionType.vsUISelectionTypeSelect) UIHSolutionRootNode.DTE.SuppressUI = False End Sub Private Sub Collapse(ByVal item As UIHierarchyItem) For Each eitem As UIHierarchyItem In item.UIHierarchyItems If eitem.UIHierarchyItems.Expanded AndAlso eitem.UIHierarchyItems.Count > 0 Then Collapse(eitem) End If Next item.UIHierarchyItems.Expanded = False End Sub End Module

  • Visual Studio 2010 "Not enough storage is available to process this command"

    - by Daniel Perez
I'm fighting with VS 2010 and this error that seems to be very common in previous versions, but it looks like not everyone is having it in the latest version. I've got VS 2010 SP1 and I'm getting this error quite often. The problem is that it's not even enough to restart VS in order to make it go away, I usually have to restart my pc, and i'm losing a lot of time doing this (it's quite frequent) I've got Windows 7 32bits (can't upgrade to 64 bits, the company doesn't allow it), and I can't do things like creating another solution (please don't reply this :) ) I've used the command to make devenv.exe LARGEADDRESSAWARE, but the error keeps on happening My virtual memory size is set to automatic, and the weird thing is that VS doesn't even take 2gb of ram, so I don't know if the error is really because it's lacking memory, or if it's some bug in the program any ideas, things to try, something?

  • Visual Studio crashes when I add a .settings file in a C++ Windows form application

    - by Ant
I'm trying to add a .settings file in a windows form application by adding a (whatever) file in the project and have it named smthng.settings. Right after it is created, it crashes (if I look into the project's directory the file is there, but it's not "in" the project). Am I doing it wrong or could it be that the problem lies elsewhere? Edit: It seems that it's the settings designer that crashes. Partially Solved:If I add a (whatever).config file, then rename it to .settings and change it's file type to C/C++ Code (don't ask how I figured this out..) then I can add to it settings, but if I do add something that has any connection to the form then automatically a (whatever).config with thew same name spawns (which is identical to the (whatever).setting even if change one of them) and at the stdafx.cpp a #include '(whatever).h' appears, which is a problem, because there is not such a header. (if I erase it or just create a blank (whatever).h it doesn't work. Apparently I have to somehow connect all the data in the (w/e).settings to (w/e).h as well or maybe something else) Anyone had this problem before? Anyone has any ideas?

  • Detecting Visual Studio Smart-tags events

    - by devoured elysium
Is it possible to detect with VSX when any (or a particular) smart tag event is happening? I mean, every time we rename a variable, for example, a smart tag is available that allows us to change it through a form. I'd like to know if I can access that "text is changing" event. I don't mean to have to check for myself if the text is being changed and such, I'd like to make use of VS event system (if there is one). I gave this example but I'd like to know the "general system" of how smart tags work with VSX. Thanks
