• Amazon EBS for web site files

  I'm new to the Amazon EC2/EBS system. I'm trying to figure out the "best practice" for hosting a web application (php, ASP.NET, etc.). The way I see it, I have 2 options: Have the instance hold my web files - Don't need to worry about attaching volume's etc.? Have EBS volume hold my web files - Easily update with new code without needing to recreate the AMI for new updates? How do others handle this?

• Control-Backspace (unix-kill-rubout) for readline?

  In readline(3) I should be able to map Control-Backspace to the same function as Control-W (unix-kill-rubout). Regardless of what I put in ~/.inputrc I'm unable to get this to be recognized. \C-\b: unix-kill-rubout ...for instance does not work. Can I map Control-Backspace to the unix-kill-rubout in readline?

• Launching new Chrome window at a certain screen position (osx)

  I have Chrome open most of the time in the lower right corner of my screen and work mostly with tabs. Sometimes I need a new Chrome window (instance) and hit cmd-n. Now the new window always opens up in the upper left and I have to center it. Is there a way to automatically center new chrome windows (or maybe maximize them..)?

• What would cause JBoss to take up 4 more GB of memory than what is allocated?

  Relevant part of the start up line: java -server -Xms10G -Xmx10G -XX:PermSize=1G -XX:MaxPermSize=1G This instance ended up taking up 16GB of memory and 10GB of swap before killing the server. Any ideas on what could cause that? This is the only major application running on a RedHat system with 16GB RAM and 10GB swap.

  Development of the free application Putty Connection Manager that can display more than one Putty sessions stopped in 2009, and it sometimes triggers this error when I double-click on any host in the right hand-side list: PuTTY Connection Manager/An unexpected error occured : Object reference not set to an instance of an object.. Limited success was only with Xephyr :1, DISPLAY=:1 /usr/local/bin/firefox, but Xephyr has no Cygwin/X's "rootless" mode so it's not comfortable. The idea is to have one Firefox instance for various "Serious Business" things and the other for regular browsing with dozens of add-ons securely isolated.

  Due to company restrictions where I currently work, My windows users folder %USERPROFILE% is space restricted. I get a warning that I must delete files before I can log off. Because of that, I have moved everything else out of my profile folder (maven repository, IntelliJ configuration & cache). I need to tell Firefox to put userprofiles somewhere else on my machine (like for instance C:\ff_profiles\ ). How do I do that?

• Gedit opens on all workspaces?

  Im using Fedora 10 with XFCE. Every time I open Gedit, it opens a instance on every workspace. The circle icon on my window border is selected (meaning, enabled on all workspaces). When I disable it to appear on one workspace, then close and restart, Gedit opens normal (current workspace). Question is: How to keep this current configuration? If I restart my system, and start up Gedit, it appears on all workspaces again.
