• How to copy data (clone) from one partition to another in Windows XP?

  I have installed a new hard drive in our PC running Windows XP and I wonder how to transfer the data from the old (small) data partition to the new (large) one. My question concerns only a data partition containing files and folders (not the boot partition with the Operating System files!) Is it ok to just copy the folders in the Windows XP Explorer to the new partition? Could anything be lost this way (hidden folders, metadata, ..)? What is the best way to clone a data partition in Windows XP?

• Linux (Ubuntu) USB Auth

  I want to be able to authenticate with PAM using a USB drive with a file on it. I've read about how to do this with a PAM module that reads the specific USB hardware ID of a device, but if the device malfunctions or is lost, there would be no way to authenticate. I would prefer to use the method BitLocker uses, requiring a particular file to be found on the drive in order to authenticate. That way I can keep another drive in a secure location as a backup. Any other suggestions are welcome. I just want to require a higher level of security that just a password.

  What happens is that the system runs fine for several days or even a week and then suddenly the root file-system / goes read-only. Looking at the syslog it shows that there was an 'Unhandled sense code'. • Can I restore closed tabs after quitting Chrome?

  I closed Chrome by accident. Now all the tabs I had open are presumably gone. I don't want to risk anything by starting Chrome now before asking for help. I fear that they will be permanently lost (overwritten files) if I do that. I know from past experience with Firefox that restoring tabs and browser sessions can be a tricky business. What can I do at this point? Is there a file or something I need to copy or rename? I know about the Ctrl+Shift+T command. But I normally use this while browsing. Will this work AFTER closing Chrome?

• Can I use applescript to click buttons in background?

  Sorry for this generic and probably bad-written question. I've never programmed in applescript, but I'm quite familiar with other coding language. I'm in the need of clicking on 2 sequential button inside the lobby of a software (when you click the first a popup appears and we should click 'ok'). However things are a little bit more complicated then this because: 1) the lobby of this program isn't in foreground: it's covered by other windows opened. (I don't have experience so I don't know if this represent a problem). 2) there should be a timer and the program should click this button at regular intervals. Is this feasible with applescript?

• Outlook 2010 Folder Structure Search

  I work at a helpdesk and today I received a call from a user who lost a folder in Outlook. When I connected to the user's PC, I discovered that the user has several hundreds of folders. She had the same name folder in several different locations. When we used Advanced Find we found the messages. It said that messages are located in folder X. The only problem was, we could not locate the folder X in the list. Does anyone know of any way to quickly and easily browse all the folders or look up a folder in Outlook 2010?

  Searching for answers about the "Clear Text Credential Access Enabled" field, I found a question on an oracle forum that was my exactly what I was trying to find out. Thinking that my answer would soon be found, I happily click on the link only to find zero replies. All hope was lost. I am posting the question here, hoping that someone on this site will know the answer. Can somebody please explain the usage of "Clear Text Credential Access Enabled" checkbox under "-Security-Advanced tab for Weblogic 11g? What is the difference if we set or unset this flag? If I dont set this flag I get an exception like "Access to sensitive attribute in clear text is not allowed due to the setting of ClearTextCredentialAccessEnabled attribute in SecurityConfigurationMBean" when I try to set a value for the "Credential" field. But what should be the value for "Credential" field if I dont set the "Clear Text Credential Access Enabled"flag?

• Xubuntu Terminal overrides shell- and vi color schemes, how to deactivate?

  I'm running an up-to-tade Xubuntu and have a real problem with these Terminals. I don't want them to be all that design-ish. Just the plain old Terminal with a black background and green text. And in VIM I want to use my own color scheme. But the xfce-4-terminal doesn't seem to let me do that. It always uses it's own color schemes and they just don't work for all cases (you have like 6 different types of text elements to color, for coding you need more). How can I disable the coloring in the terminal or just load a simple one without all these features?

  Every time I switch machines (as in, get a new one, or reinstall an OS or something like that) my precious file associations get lost. And the next six months pass slowly until I again set them up right. Is there a program that allows me to: Set all the extensions I would like to open with let's say, Vim, without setting each one of them individually. Something of a kind: Vim opens: .... list of extensions ... and/or A program which lets me backup my current settings, and when I copy those to a new machine it lets me just modify the paths where I putted the applications in question, and it does the rest (again, associates that program with all the extensions it opened before).

• Filter email view in Lotus Notes

  From MS Outlook I am used to have an input field above my list of mails where I can type in a filter string such that every mail not matching this string vanishes. I remember that once - by accident (pressing a weird combination of keys because the window I was actually working in lost focus) - I got something very similar in Lotus Notes. So I think there must be something like this out there, but unfortunately I cannot find it anymore. Does somebody know how to get this kind of functionality in Lotus Notes? Thanks!

If this happens, then all the transactions will be happening on that backup database. Once the production db server is running again, then how do we make sure the changes made in the backup database will be reflected on the production database? We want to make sure that any changes made while failed over are not lost. We are using Oracle 10g.

  I've always run Linux on my home computers, and done PC repair for years, but this is my first experience with needing to buy a SAN. I thought I was knowledgeable, but I feel a bit lost. I need to be able to support 25 VMs, which are currently managed through vSphere. The company I'm at is growing quickly though, so I'd like to plan for the future. Ideally, I want a solution that I can just tack arrays onto and manage as one large, iSCSI drive. Suggestions? Good resources? If I can find something that appears to software as one large drive, am I better off going with a solution like FreeNAS or Starwind, or an all-in-one proprietary solution like NetApp? Cost, is (of course, and always I'm sure) an issue.

  Hi guys I'm currently developing using rails and for some reason bundle install is returning the following output Error Bundler::HTTPError during request to dependency API Fetching full source index from https://rubygems.org/ Could not reach https://rubygems.org/ I've discovered that pinging by domain name keeps returning an unknown host. The browser is still resolving web pages just fine and I've managed to confirm that the problem is localized (i.e. the rubygems page isn't down). I'm completely lost so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

• CentOS running inside VMware as WebServer times out on outside connection [migrated]

  I have a CentOS machine running inside VMware, and I have got PHP and Apache set up on it, so if I open a browser (on the VM) and go to either localhost, or 192.168.0.3, I get a phpinfo page I made in /var/www/html/index.php, but, if on the host (Windows 7), in my browser I go to 192.168.0.3, it times out. I can ping the IP address from Windows and get a response, I just can't through the browser. Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do to get this working? This is my first time using a VM and I'm getting lost in the network settings.

  I've got a pretty much default sites-enabled set up in my nginx on debian squeeze and i'm now trying to get it to serve up my munin graphs on myhost/munin/ Heres the location i've added to the config location /munin { root /var/cache/munin/www/; index index.htm index.html; } And here is the error I recieve: 2012/07/09 23:52:03 [error] 3598#0: *13 "/var/cache/munin/www/munin/index.htm" is not found (2: No such file or directory), client: 93.*.*.*, server: , request: "GET /munin/ HTTP/1.1", host: "" This set up used to 'just work' in apache. I'm new to nginx so a bit lost as to why its adding the extra /munin when looking for the path. Any advice?

  I was developing a website using Dreamweaver, I was editing one of my php files and suddenly the electricity shut down and my computer turned off. when I turned on my PC again and open the file that I was editing, all the contents were gone!!! When I look to the php file size it was 10 KB so that means it is not empty, so i decided to open it in note++ it showed me a long string of nulls !!! So is there a way to get my file contents back??   I want to develop human vs human android chess game and I have bunch of new questions. I would like to have screen where online players are shown(nickname, rating) and when player challenge antoher player and he accpet it game begins. These are my questions: When player install application, does he have to create account/login or does every instance of installed application have some kind of ID so I can recognize it on server side? I want to have also ratings of players saved in my DB so login procedure will probably be necessary. When player connects to server server updates online players list. When he challenge another player and he accept server exchange ip`s(and ports? which port to use?) between players. Then they connect to each other and game begins. What is best practice for connection between server-android and android-android? Probably sockets, right? Is there any library for handling lost connection etc.? Which server do you recommend?

• Clang warning flags for Objective-C development

  As a C & Objective-C programmer, I'm a bit paranoid with the compiler warning flags. I usually try to find a complete list of warning flags for the compiler I use, and turn most of them on, unless I have a really good reason not to turn it on. I personally think this may actually improve coding skills, as well as potential code portability, prevent some issues, as it forces you to be aware of every little detail, potential implementation and architecture issues, and so on... It's also in my opinion a good every day learning tool, even if you're an experienced programmer. For the subjective part of this question, I'm interested in hearing other developers (mainly C, Objective-C and C++) about this topic. Do you actually care about stuff like pedantic warnings, etc? And if yes or no, why? Now about Objective-C, I recently completely switched to the LLVM toolchain (with Clang), instead of GCC. • Microsoft .NET Web Programming: Web Sites versus Web Applications

  In .NET 2.0, Microsoft introduced the Web Site. This was the default way to create a web Project in Visual Studio 2005. In Visual Studio 2008, the Web Application has been restored as the default web Project in Visual Studio/.NET 3.x The Web Site is a file/folder based Project structure. It is designed such that pages are not compiled until they are requested ("on demand"). The advantages to the Web Site are: 1) It is designed to accommodate non-.NET Applications 2) Deployment is as simple as copying files to the target server 3) Any portion of the Web Site can be updated without requiring recompilation of the entire Site. The Web Application is a .dll-based Project structure. ASP.NET pages and supporting files are compiled into assemblies that are then deployed to the target server. Advantages of the Web Application are: 1) Precompiled files do not expose code to an attacker 2) Precompiled files run faster because they are binary data (the Microsoft Intermediate Language, or MSIL) executed by the CLR (Common Language Runtime) 3) References, assemblies, and other project dependencies are built in to the compiled site and automatically managed. They do not need to be manually deployed and/or registered in the Global Assembly Cache: deployment does this for you If you are planning on using automated build and deployment, such as the Team Foundation Server Team Build engine, you will need to have your code in the form of a Web Application. If you have a Web Site, it will not properly compile as a Web Application would. • displaying python's autodoc to the user (python 3.3)

  I'm writing a simple command line math game, and I'm using python's autodoc for my math algorithms to help me remember, for example, what a proth number is while i'm writing the algorithm, but later on I'll want to tell that information to the user as well, so they'll know what the answer was. So, for example I have: def is_proth(): """Proth numbers and numbers that fit the formula k×2^n + 1, where k are odd positive integers, and 2^n > k.""" [snip] return proths and then I tried to make a dictionary, like so: definitions = {"proths" : help(is_proth)} But it doesn't work. It prints this when I start the program, one for each item in the dictionary, and then it errors out on one of them that returns a set. And anyway, I don't want it displayed to the user until after they've played the game. Help on function is_proth in module __main__: is_proth() Proth numbers and numbers that fit the formula k×2^n + 1, where k are odd positive integers, and 2^n > k. (END) I understand the purpose of autodoc is more for helping programmers who are calling a function than for generating userdoc, but it seems inefficient to have to type out the definition of what a proth number is twice, once in a comment to help me remember what an algorithm does and then once to tell the user the answer to the game they were playing after they've won or lost.

Recently, I was able to manage some time for this project to complete the remaining features that we planned for the initial release.
