  • IIS Manager IIS6 Rights Management on Windows Server 2003

    We are using a dedicated hosting provider to host several of our public websites. There are two development teams/divisions within our company who each maintain public websites on these same servers. Is there a way through ACLs or some sort of rights management (e.g. individual logins) that I would only be able to see and maintain only my public sites and the other development team could only see and maintain their sites?     Hi all, Is there a way to detect memory fragmentation on linux ? This is because on some long running servers I have noticed performance degradation and only after I restart process I see better performance. I noticed it more when using linux huge page support -- are huge pages in linux more prone to fragmentation ? I have looked at /proc/buddyinfo in particular. I want to know whether there are any better ways to look at it.

  • Android OutOfMemoryError - Loading JSON File

    The app I am working on needs to read a JSON file that may be anywhere from 1.5 to 3 MB in size. It seems to have no problem opening the file and converting the data to a string, but when it attempts to convert the string to a JSONArray, OutOfMemoryErrors are thrown. The exceptions look something like this: E/dalvikvm-heap( 5307): Out of memory on a 280-byte allocation. W/dalvikvm( 5307): Exception thrown (Ljava/lang/OutOfMemoryError;) while throwing internal exception (Ljava/lang/OutOfMemoryError;) One strange thing about this is that the crash only occurs every 2nd or 3rd time the app is run, leaving me to believe that the memory consumed by the app is not being garbage collected each time the app closes. Any insight into how I might get around this issue would be greatly appreciated. I am open to the idea of loading the file in chunks, but I'm not quite sure what the best approach is for such a task.   • Android Keep Activity from Dieing

    The main Activity I use in my Android application uses a fair amount of memory, meaning that on a less powerful phone, it is susceptible to being killed off when not at the front. Normally this is fine, but it also happens when I am still inside my application, but have a different activity at the top of the stack (such as a preference activity). Obviously it's a problem if my application is killed while the user is still running it. Is there any way to disable the OS's ability to kill off the application for low memory problems? Thanks.

    I'm an escalation engineer on a product which use both c# and delphi 2006 code. In most cases c# issues are debugged with windbg and delphi 2006 issues with eurekalog. But when the issue is a delphi memory usage, eurekalog doesn't give enough information to fix the issue and the only thing i have to debug it is a full memory dump file. I cannot (or i don't know how to) load symbol file in windbg because it is a .map file and not a .pdb file. So my questions are: Does anyone know how to load symbol from .map file in windbg? (Converting .map to .pdb or other) Does anyone know a tool to analyze dump file for delphi application?

I see a number of tutorials about doing this, but the ones I've seen don't have any input parameters going into the SP. My SP has several, and an output parameter as well.     does java 6 generate thread dump in addition to heap dump (java_pid14941.hprof) this is what happened to one of my applications. java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded Dumping heap to java_pid14941.hprof ... I did find ava_pid14941.hprof in working directory, but didn't find any file which contains thread dump. I need to know what all the threads were doing when I got this OutOfMemory error. Is there any configuration option which will generate thread dump in addition to heap dump on out of memory exception?

    Let's say I have a first structure like this: typedef struct { int ivalue; char cvalue; } Foo; And a second one: typedef struct { int ivalue; char cvalue; unsigned char some_data_block[0xFF]; } Bar; Now let's say I do the following: Foo *pfoo; Bar *pbar; pbar = new Bar; pfoo = (Foo *)pbar; delete pfoo; Now, when I call the delete operator, how much memory does it free? sizeof(int) + sizeof(char) Or sizeof(int) + sizeof(char) + sizeof(char) * 0xFF ? And if it's the first case due to the casting, is there any way to prevent this memory leak from happening? Note: please don't answer "use C++ polymorphism" or similar, I am using this method for a reason.

  • Web-Frameworks for Education Management Systems?

    So, I'm working on an idea and I'll go into a brief overview of that but my question is, What are some good web frameworks for this situation? I have some experience in the following languages: C# Python I have considerably more experience in C# than Python, however I am expecting to learn new things. My idea is this, a completely web-based community-oriented Education Management System that focuses on making students and teachers day-to-day lives easier. For students it will provide a centralized place for them to do homework, study for tests, and reinforce concepts learned previously in class. For teachers it will give them a centralized place to handle assignments, attendance, homework, tests, and all other major parts of classroom management. All of that, but in a community-oriented fashion. Everything a teacher does is shared and open to constructive criticism, allowing other teachers to use their assignments/tests and for students or other teachers to comment, rate and criticize their assignments. This encourages an environment of openness that will allow teacher's to focus on teaching and student's to focus on learning. And that community wouldn't be limited to one school or school-district, this system would be completely school-independent. Please note that I have no problem with hearing constructive criticism on this idea, however I would prefer if this post was more focused on my question. I have somewhat explored about the following options: Django ASP.NET Ruby on Rails Silverlight (1) I have Django installed and I played with it for a little bit, I really like how easy setting up databases are and how it handles the database completely for you. I don't really know how to use it very well and I don't quite understand the Model-View-Controller paradigm(?) for it yet but I haven't thought about it much. I also like the fact that it uses Python. (2) I don't really like Visual Studio for developing in ASP.NET, I hate the way the web-designer works and it just feels clunky and old. I like the server-side development part though. I don't like how expensive ASP.NET and overall Visual Studio is, even if I do get it for free for now using DreamSpark (3) I haven't been able to explore much with this, I could not get Rails (or maybe Ruby) properly installed. I first installed it within RadRails and that didn't work so I uninstalled RadRails and then installed the latest version of Ruby off the official Windows Installer and then installed Ruby on Rails through gem and even after all that it still didn't work, so I installed Netbeans and attempted to use it there but it still did not work (4) I like Silverlight in some extents, I've played with this one the most, it's very similar to WPF (which I've used the most) in a lot of ways but I don't like how database connectivity works, at least in comparison to Django. I also dislike how expensive everything with Microsoft is, even if I get it for free for now with DreamSpark. I would like to hear some suggestions from experienced web-developers as to what I should use and why, or at least what some good options are for my scenario Your help would be very appreciated

    The problem i think is with returing an object when i overload the + operator. I tried returning a reference to the object, but doing so does not fix the memory leak. I can comment out the two statements: dObj = dObj + dObj2; and cObj = cObj + cObj2; to free the program of memory leaks.
