• CheckPoint VPN-1 SecureClient inability to navigate behind a Linksys WAG300N

  I have a Linksys WAG300N, I'm accessing my LAN with Wifi and everything works fine on my Windows 7 Enterprise laptop. When I try to connect to my company's VPN the connection succeeds, but I cannot access any internet site either within my work network or public site like Yahoo or Google. In my Linksys control panel I already verified all types of VPNs are enable to passthrough. Normal IPSec and Windows VPN worked in the past without any problems. CheckPoint seems to have a solution, but I do not have the ability to change the IP in my client and of course using another NAT device in between is not a solution for me. • Resolving DNS queries for two disconnected, private, networks

  I'm trying to setup two PCs (one Windows, one Linux, but my understanding is that this problem is more DNS and less OS) as follows: Home network: 192.168.1.0/24 VPN (via OpenVPN server not within the home network): 192.168.2.0/24 . I would like a PC on both networks to be able to access three different types of site: Internet addresses Addresses on the home network Addresses on the vpn However, I'm not sure how/which DNS servers to use. If I prioritize my home DNS server, I can resolve (1) and (2), but not (3). If I prioritize my VPN DNS server, I can't resolve addresses of type (2). Of course, looking up addresses via nslookup and explicitly setting the correct server works, so I know my local DNS servers are OK. Is there any way I can set up my PCs to fallback on the second DNS server if there is no response? Alternatively, is there any way I can tell different queries to go to different servers [maybe by setting up different subdomains; foo.local.something vs. bar.vpn.something]? Thanks

• Do i need a dedicated server for load balancing?

  I'm completely new to the concept of load balancing so i hope this question isn't a "stupid question" because i've been searching around and im having a hard time understanding this. So to my understanding, in order to load balance, i need a separate machine with an ip address i can direct all traffic to. I initially thought i needed to rent 3 dedicated servers, one for load balancing and the other two as backend servers. Would a dedicated server be too much for a load balancer or do hosting companies have special types of computers for that process? Then i read somewhere else that i can install a load balance software in both of the two servers and configure it in a way that doesn't require me to rent another machine/dedicated server for load balancing. So im a bit confuse on how to actually implement a load balancer and whether or not i need a dedicated server for the sole purpose of acting as a load balancing machine. Also, i was recommended to use HAproxy so i'll be heading that direction for load balancing.

  I know this isn't the purpose of TFTP, but I'm working in an environment where a lot of different types of devices pull provisioning info from a TFTP server. What I'm developing is a provisioning system that tracks and maintains device configurations, and I would like to have the requested files generated on the fly, much like you could do with any web application. Yes some of these devices can support HTTP for provisioning, but not all of them do, and we want things to be consistent. Are there any TFTP daemons that can provide something analogous to CGI?

Are they the same? ext .ext *.ext What about wildcards? .e?t .e* .*t For file paths, which wildcards are allowed and how do they work? C:\path* C:\path\s*e C:\path\somef?le C:\*\somefile C:\pa*\somefile C:\pa?h\somefile *\path *:\path For processes, can wildcard be used when specifying the file name? Same syntax as file paths? Also: I read in this post that, as of October 2009, Real Time Protection ignored wildcards; is this still true for the 2012 version?

• Redirect URL using Mac OS X Server Lion

  I have just set up a Mac Mini with OS X Lion Server to host my own website. I have registered multiple domain names, but I would like the user to be automatically redirected to my main domain name if they type in one of the others (i.e. if the user types in www.myotherdomain.com the URL will be forwarded instantly to www.mymaindomain.com). In the Web settings of Server.app, you can easily add additional domains (which works) but it does not change the URL in the browser to www.mymaindomain.com. It keeps www.myotherdomain.com whilst still displaying the correct pages. Does the redirects or alias options do what I want? I can't seem to work out how to use them (there seems to be no documentation that I can find). In Redirects, you need to enter: 'Redirect Type' (Exact Match or Regular Expression) 'Redirect Path' 'Destination URL' 'Redirect Status' (Original was permanently moved, etc) In Alias, you need to enter: 'Alias Type' (Exact Match or Regular Expression) 'Alias Path' 'Destination Folder' Any help would be great.

• I need to duplicate software packages installed on one HPUX system to a test system

  I am very inexperienced with HPUX and need to duplicate a production server for a test environment. I have 11.11 on the prod server and have completed the base install on the test server. What I need is a way to add the installed packages from the prod server to the test server. Unfortunately I haven't the foggiest idea how to do this. I've thought of using ignite backup and restore but don't have matching tape types between the two. The other thought was using swlist to gather the installed packages and then going to the website to download and install on the test environment. Has anyone successfully done something like this? Pointers?

• Apache redirect from one domain to another domain

  Like many users, we tend to register the *.com and *.net versions of our domain names to prevent nefarious squatters. So if we wanted "foo.com" we'd also register "foo.net" and have them both resolve to the same IP address. Trying to set up Apache for the first time and need to know the proper way to redirect requests to "foo.net" to go to "foo.com" instead so that if a user types in "foo.net" they get magically redirected to "foo.com". I've been reading through the Apache URL Rewriting guide (http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/misc/rewriteguide.html) and it's not readily apparent how to do this seemingly simple task. Please advise this apprentice oh wise Apache jedi...

• Windows not showing version (or other resources) for files in tooltip

  Whenever I hover the mouse cursor over executable file types (.exe, .dll, etc.) in Windows Explorer, it only shows the Type, Size, and (Modified) Date of the file in the tooltip instead of the Company, Version, Description, etc. This used to work in Windows XP, but Windows 7 is showing me less information which is frustrating because I often need that information to be quickly and easily available (no, opening the Properties dialog or adding columns is not a solution). How can I get Explorer to show me all the relevant information for the files in the tooltip? (Bonus points for also showing it in the Preview pane at the bottom.)

  I just got a new laser printer, Samsung ML-1640, and it has once again confirmed my experience that Samsung printers suck badly. The printer prints fine, except that the top margin is set at random, usually very small, cutting text on the top of page off. I tried updating firmware, getting new drivers, but nothing helped. I tried changing paper types, and it seemed that with the paper set as "plain" it was OK, but I just tried printing again after letting the printer rest for the night, and wasted 6 pages until I managed to print 2 boarding passes... Is there anything else I could try to resolve the issue?

• Blurry Digital TV Signal in Media Center

  I recently reformatted my box and I reinstalled XP Media Center 2005. My TV signal is perfect if I plug it directly into the tv; and at any rate even shows I recorded previous to the reformat are blury. I have installed all updates (including Media Player 11) and I have installed a codec pack for different file types. I have no clue why it wouldn't display right. When I play the previously recorded shows in VLC they come out perfectly clear... Any ideas?

• Linux Flash Player with 2 Monitors: always full-screen on primary monitor

  My setup at home uses a laptop, with a larger external monitor in addition to the built-in LCD panel, which is primary. I can see the larger monitor from the rest of the room and use it as my TV, for playing DVDs and various types of web video. However, it isn't ideal for Flash video. For instance, if I watch a video from Hulu or any other Flash-based site, I can expand it to full-screen mode. However, no matter which monitor the browser window is on, the full-screen mode is always on the laptop LCD panel, which is both too small and not visible from most of the room. Does anyone know of a way to force the Flash video to play full-screen on the monitor I select instead of the primary? My video chipset is NVidia, using kernel 2.6.31 (Ubuntu). Thanks.

• FTP upload stalls at same point every time on FileZilla

  On two different FTP accounts, I am having problems uploading files. I can login and see the contents of the dir, and start an upload. Using Filezilla the transfer seems to always stall at either 0.9% or 1.2% (always those two numbers) and may simply hang, or keep restarting and then again stop at the same point. WindowsXP FTP is not great but I get similar types of problems there... it starts uploading and after a short while I get a timeout error. FTP used to work fine, and I don't know if it's these accounts in particular (both have the same service provider although purchased on opposite sides of the world) or if "FTP is broken on my PC"... can that even happen?!

  Hi folks, we are trying to setup apache (apache 2 in this case, although apache does the same thing) and html pages display just fine, however, any php pages linked into buttons on the front page are offered for download rather than being displayed. Any ideas what we have missed? Its proving difficult to search on this in google as the terms are so heavily used elsewhere. I know this is a bit general, but we have tried adding types to the to the apache.conf (or httpd.conf for apache1) are having no joy at all. Thanks. Peter.

• Predictive vs Least Connection Load Balancing Techniques

  I have a windows based desktop application that communicates via TCP to the application servers. (windows 2003). No sticky sessions between client calls. We have exactly 2 servers to load balance and we are thinking to use a F5 hardware NLB. The application is a heavy load types, doing not much bussiness logic in the services but retrieving quite a big amount of data at most of the times. May be on an average 5000 to 10000 records at all times. Used mainly for storing and retirieving data and no special processing of data or calculations running on the server side. I am favouring 'predictive' considering my services take a while at times to return data and hence tracking the feedback would yield some better routing as in predictive. I am not sure if the given data is sufficient enough to suggest some ideas but considering these, what would be some suggestions\things to consider\best between Predictive and Least Connections ? It has domain name this IP and connected router for it ... example www.domain.com so I added to my main server hosts file (linux powered) lines like these: 192.168.0.2 domain.com www.domain.com It was working ok when I entered my domain name in local computer it showed my site ... But after some time I added HTTPS cerfiticate and added this line to my apatche server: Redirect permanent / https://www.domain.com/ And now it does not work even when i add something like this to my hosts file: 192.168.0.2 https://www.domain.com So any idea how do do this thing work?   I have a small confusion about the differences between the 2 types of set ups: When deploying using Add Roles and Features the Wizard requests to choose from one of two Deployment Scenarios: Virtual machine-based desktop deployment : Virtual machine-based desktop deployment allows users to connect to virtual desktop collections that include published RemoteApp programs and virtual desktops. Session-based desktop deployment : Session-based desktop deployment allows users to connect to session collections that include published RemoteApp programs and session-based desktops. Although this seems intuitive now, if I continue with "Virtual machine-based desktop deployment" I later have another two options when creating a collection: Pooled virtual desktop collection Personal virtual desktop collection This is where my confusion lies. What is the differences between a Session-based deployment and Virtual machine-based deployment with Personal virtual desktop collections? I'm mostly finding information pertaining to Windows Server 2008 but I know there are some core improvements in VDI 2012 so would someone please comment on that. Thank you

• What changes can be made to a Microsoft Account using net user on Windows 8?

  In Windows 8, you can log on with a local account or with a Microsoft Account. Both types show up in the Users control panel, but there are different options that you can change for each type. An administrator can change basically any aspect of a local user - name, password, access level, etc. For a Microsoft Account, you can only change the access level (admin/standard) or remove the account. From the command line though, there don't appear to be any restrictions on what you can do a Microsoft Account. Using the net user tool or the Local Users and Groups MMC snap-in, it looks like an administrator would be able to change the password, display name, profile path, etc. of Microsoft Accounts (as well as local accounts of course). Will these commands actually work when applied to a Microsoft Account? Will using them in some way break the link to the Microsoft Account, or will nothing happen at all? I'm hesitant to test since I don't want to mess up my account permanently.

  I've recently read the following paragraph, and wondered: how you would organise the data (possibly Column A = country, Column B = salary, Column C = tax paid) but what formulas/calculations are used to work out these types of % figures: In country Y the top 0.5% of taxpayers pay 17% of total income tax. In country X the top 0.1% of taxpayers pay 8% of total income tax and in country Z, the top 1% pay about 40% of total federal income tax. • Why can't I install apps on Windows 8 using specific dial-up modem connections?

  This problem has persisted since I first tried out Windows 8 Consumer Preview, and also affects Windows 8, Windows 8.1 Preview, and Windows 8.1. Specifically, the problem occurs when I try to install apps from the Windows Store on a Globe Tattoo Broadband or Smart Bro dial-up connection (two common ways of connecting to the internet in the Philippines). I can confirm that this isn't a problem with my copy of Windows or my Microsoft account because I was able to install any app on other connections like public WiFi. This problem has persisted on three different dongles and two different computers. So why can't I install apps on those two specific types of connections?
