  • Security of WCF endpoints

    For the sake of argument, lets say that I've got a basicHttp WCF service. Besides implementing authentication (login/logout methods), what is stopping someone from just cracking open Visual Studio, adding a web reference to my website's service, and then playing playing around with my service? I'm not familiar with a method of stopping someone from doing this. The idea of someone downloading all of my Data/Operation contracts and then start playing around is keeping me up at night, and I like my sleep!

  • Open-source generic web service to database interface?

    I'm looking for a thin, generic layer (probably written in PHP) that sits between a database (probably MySQL) and web service clients (which could be anything). I imagine there would be config files of some sort that tell it how to map web service requests to database queries (or other DB commands). It would also need to handle authentication and authorization, of course. I've done some googling but failed to find anything that fits the bill. Can anyone suggest something like this?

If I try users/search, it returns multiple research results, so how can I be sure that I get the result of exact user name only?     I need to store authentication information and I rather not have the password in plain text: <property name="user" value="theUser"/> <property name="password" value="secret"/> Has anyone figured out a way to encrypt property values in Nant? I've looked in Nant and Nantcontrib docs but no mention of encryption. I am considering going the route of creating my own Nant Task. Any suggestions?

    Hi, I've just installed a fresh copy of SQL 2008 Express. before I did anything I opened Management Studio and successfully connected using Window Authentication. However I tried to run the following on the command line "telnet localhost 1433" and got the error "Could not open connection to the host, on port 1433: Connect failed" I checked netstat and there is nothing listening on port 1433. Before I go any further, is there a problem with the install? thanks, Shane

    On Mac OS X Leopard - when I try and access a remote repository from Terminal it always asks for: 1. Password 2. Username 3. Password (again) with the message: "Authentication realm: http://svn.myserver.com:80 Subversion" I've checked and my credentials are being stored in Keychain and SVN has access to them. Why won't it use them?

In my Handler, I've managed to get the first step of the authentication to work, but I need to redirect to the url that getUserAccessTokenStep1 returns, which I've defined as fbRedirUrl.   • Whats a valid strategy for a secure image upload from a flash client?

    Hi all - I'm creating a flash application that will post images to a url for saving to disk/display later. I was wondering what are some suggested strategies for making this secure enough so that the upload is verified as coming from the application and not just some random form post. Is it reliable enough to check referring location realizing that I don't need bulletproof security, or perhaps setting authentication headers is a better strategy even though it seems unreliable from what I have read.     Hi, I am using HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name to get a user id from 2 web application i'am developping. the problem is when i'am loggin in teh first application i get always HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name value (i put test in Application_AuthenticateRequest event) but when i log in teh 2nd application adn i ty to naviagte trough the 1st application teh HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name loses value. Environnement of test : Windows XP / VS.NET 2005 / Authentication forms BTW : both application are deployed in teh same machine Thank you for your help

  • Setting up a linked server to another server which isn't in a domain without using SQL authenticatio

    Server A (SQL2005) is in our primary domain, but server B (SQL2000) is just in a windows workgroup. We are not allowed to join it to the domain, or bad things happen... We also can't enable SQL authentication on server B. We've got domain accounts for A, and matching local accounts on server B. I can connect to B from my local PC or A using SSMS and a domain login, but I can't get the linked server to connect. Any ideas how to do this?
