• docs/examples on libxml2 type system?

  I'm reading through the libxml2 API and examples on xmlsoft.com and having some real difficulty wrapping my head around the type system. For example, the _xmlAttribute struct has an xmlChar* field called name. This obviously refers to the name of the attribute (e.g., "bar" for the struct tied to the element <foo bar='baz' />). The _xmlAttribute struct also has a field called value, which I would expect to be "baz", except the type is xmlNodePtr. Um, what? I guess I could write up some test code and examine the memory in gdb, but there has to be an easier way. Has anyone written up examples of the data structures generated by a libxml2 parser? I'm looking for an English prose text, not generated documentation, that will walk me through the various types and the values they take when parsing some example bit of XML. Bonus points if it presents only the subset of libxml2 needed to read and write a config file---no namespaces or XPath or even modifying an existing document, just parse some XML, access the data, and then write it out again.

• Mocking WebResponse's from a WebRequest

  I have finally started messing around with creating some apps that work with RESTful web interfaces, however, I am concerned that I am hammering their servers every time I hit F5 to run a series of tests.. Basically, I need to get a series of web responses so I can test I am parsing the varying responses correctly, rather than hit their servers every time, I thought I could do this once, save the XML and then work locally. However, I don't see how I can "mock" a WebResponse, since (AFAIK) they can only be instantiated by WebRequest.GetResponse How do you guys go about mocking this sort of thing? Do you? I just really don't like the fact I am hammering their servers :S I dont want to change the code too much, but I expect there is a elegant way of doing this.. Update Following Accept Will's answer was the slap in the face I needed, I knew I was missing a fundamental point! Create an Interface that will return a proxy object which represents the XML. Implement the interface twice, on that uses WebRequest, the other that returns static "responses". The interface implmentation then either instantiates the return type based on the response, or the static XML. You can then pass the required class when testing or at production to the service layer. Once I have the code knocked up, I'll paste some samples. Thanks Will :)

  I'm writing a program in Java where I read in data from an XML file and parse it. The file is imported into a folder named "Resources" in the src directory of my project. I'm using Eclipse.   I'm attempting to perform a synchronous write/read in a demux-based client application with MINA 2.0 RC1, but it seems to get stuck. On the client side, the DemuxingProtocolCodecFactory receives the response, but after throwing in some logging, I can see that the client gets stuck on the call to readFuture.awaitUninterruptibly(). I can't for the life of me figure out why it is stuck here based upon my own code. I properly set the read operation to true on the session config, meaning that messages should be blocked. However, it seems as if the message no longer exists by time I try to read response messages synchronously. Any clues as to why this won't work for me?

• can't write to physical drive in win 7??

  I wrote a disk utility that allowed you to erase whole physical drives. it uses the windows file api, calling : destFile = CreateFile("\\.\PhysicalDrive1", GENERIC_WRITE, FILE_SHARE_READ | FILE_SHARE_WRITE, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING,createflags, NULL); and then just calling WriteFile, and making sure you write in multiples of sectors, i.e. 512 bytes. this worked fine in the past, on XP, and even on the Win7 RC, all you have to do is make sure you are running it as an administrator. but now I have retail Win7 professional, it doesn't work anymore! the drives still open fine for writing, but calling WriteFile on the successfully opened Drive now fails! does anyone know why this might be? could it have something to do with opening it with shared flags? this is always what I have done before, and its worked. could it be that something is now sharing the drive? blocking the writes? is there some way to properly "unmount" A drive, or atleast the partitions on it so that I would have exclusive access to it? some other tools that used to work don't any more either, but some do, like the WD Diagnostic's erase functionality. and after it has erased the drive, my tool then works on it too! leading me to belive there is some "unmount" process I need to be doing to the drive first, to free up permission to write to it. Any ideas?

  Hello, I would like to intercept any request made to the server for XML files. I thought that it might be possible with an HttpHandler. It's coded and it works... on localhost only (?!?!). So, why is it working on localhost only? • Write to file using CopyHere without using WScript.Sleep

  Hi guys, I've written a small VBScript to creates a .zip file and then copies the contents of a specified folder into that .zip file. I copy the files over one by one for a reason (I know I can do the whole lot at once). However my problem is when I try to copy them one by one without a WScript.Sleep between each loop iteration I get a "File not found or no read permission." error; if I place a WScript.Sleep 200 after each write it works but not 100% of the time. Pretty much I'd like to get rid of the Sleep function and not rely on that because depending on the file size it may take longer to write therefore 200 milliseconds may not be enough etc. As you can see with the small piece of code below, I loop through the files, then if they match the extension I place them into the .zip (zipFile) For Each file In folderToZip.Items For Each extension In fileExtensions if (InStr(file, extension)) Then zipFile.CopyHere(file) WScript.Sleep 200 Exit For End If Next Next Any suggestions on how I can stop relying on the Sleep function? • HttpModule to Write Out JavaScript Script References to the Response

  On my page in the Page_Load event I add a collection of strings to the Context object. I have an HttpModule that will fire EndRequest and retrieve the collection of strings. What I then do is write out a script reference tag (based on the collection of strings) to the response. The problem is that the page reads the script reference but doesn't retrieve the contents of the file (I imagine because this is occurring in the EndRequest event). I can't fire the BeginRequest event because I won't have access to the Context Items collection. I tried to also registering an HttpHandler which Processes the request of the script reference but I can't access the collection of strings in the Context.Items from there. Any suggestions? • Connecting to a self hosted WCF service from a Flex application - policy issues

  Hello, I am trying to accomplish the following: I wrote a Flex application that is trying to connect to a WCF service hosted on the clients computer. I also wrote a windows forms application for the client to run. This application exposes a self-hosted WCF service that the Flex application is supposed to connect to. This works fine if I'm loading the Flex application from my local IIS. The problem starts when the Flex application is hosted on a different domain. When this occurs, the flash player requires a crossdomain.xml policy file on the clients computer. I also managed to expose the crossdomain.xml on the clients computer using another WCF self-hosted service and WebHttpBinding on the clients computer. This also works fine. My problem is that the flash player requires that the crossdomain.xml or a meta policy file will be in the root directory of the domain. If I used my WCF service to expose something on the root directory of the clients computer I will run over any existing web server capabilities the client has on the computer (such as IIS). I know it's a bit complicated scenario, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  I am trying to let my XML schema handle a little traceability functionality as I'm gathering requirements while I read through some functional specifications. (Not ideal for requirement management, but at least its a start.) What I'm doing is creating a <functionalSpec tag for each functional specification I am currently reading through. I create a <requirement tag for each requirement I find. Since I want to be able to trace where the requirement came from, I create a <trace element with the id of the <functionalSpec element. Instead of allowing myself to enter any plain-old-text in the <functionalSpecId tag, I want the XSD to validate and make sure that I only enter in an id that exists for an existing functional spec. My problem is coming in where it seems the XML Schema W3C Recommendations documentation says that what I want to do is not possible. (about 1/2 way down) {selector} specifies a restricted XPath ([XPath]) expression relative to instances of the element being declared. This must identify a node set of subordinate elements (i.e. contained within the declared element) to which the constraint applies. I'm using Oxygen to create this since I'm fairly new to XSD files, and it gives me the following error: E [Xerces] Identity Constraint error: identity constraint "KeyRef@1045a2" has a keyref which refers to a key or unique that is out of scope. So my question is does anyone know of a way that will allow me to use the same XML structure that I have below through using XSD? The XSLT should copy the whole content, modify some values and add some new. • Resolve sibling folder in JavaScript Function

  Hi, I am trying to pass into an JavaScript function two paths for an XML and XSLT. It would appear that in the sample HTML below that the use of "../xsl/filename" does not work for me in the xslt() function. If I specify the path as being "./filename" though this does work. Does anyone know how I can work around this or find some way that I can specify a sibling folder without an absolute path reference? I would prefer not to have to change my file paths as my development environment is set up with the xslt's, sample data and source code structured in a particular way.   I need to customise the deployment of my liferay portlet such that the GWT nocache.js files don't get a 'Expires' HTTP header set. My war file looks like this: view.jsp com.foobar.MyEntryPoint/com.foobar.MyEntryPoint.nocache.js com.foobar.MyEntryPoint/12312312313213123123123.cache.html WEB-INF/web.xml WEB-INF/portlet.xml WEB-INF/liferay-portlet.xml ... etc my web.xml is pretty much empty (only has the displayName) On deployment this is rewritten my liferay to have a series of filters in particalar: Header Filter com.liferay.portal.kernel.servlet.PortalClassLoaderFilter filter-class com.liferay.portal.servlet.filters.header.HeaderFilter Cache-Control max-age=315360000, public Expires 315360000 Header Filter *.js This filter adds an Expires header for about 2020 to the .nocache.js js files... the trouble is these files really shouldn't be cached (the hint is in the name :) For development purposes I have worked around this by disabling the filter using: com.liferay.portal.servlet.filters.header.HeaderFilter=false in portal-ext.properties globaly. What I what I would like to to is one of the following: Disable HeaderFilter only for this portlet or war file. I can always add my own expires Add an init-param to the HeaderFilter to match anything other than .nocache.js files Any ideas how either of these things could be achieved? Stack: liferay-6.0.1 CE, Windows 7, java 1.6.0_18, GWT 2.0.3

• Ways to save enums in database

  Hey guys. I am wondering what the best ways to save enums into a database is. I know there are name() and valueOf() methods to make it into a String back. But are there any other (flexible) options to store these values? Is there a smart way to make them into unique numbers (ordinal() is not safe to use)? Any comments and suggestions would be helpful :) Update: Thanks for all awesome and fast answers! It was as I suspected. However a note to 'toolkit'; That is one way. The problem is that I would have to add the same methods with each enum type i create. Thats a lot of duplicated code and, at the moment, Java does not support any solutions to this (You cannot let enum extend other classes). However, thanks for all answers!

When the user choose open, outlook sometimes gives the error "The file [].ics" is not a valid internet Calender file"? It is always the same event that is written to the response. • Updated - Having trouble making a circled button in android

  I'm trying to use an image as a button. The image is an oval/circle, so when I set it as the background there's basically a black box with the image on top of it. How can I fix this? • Use web interface to modify htaccess file

  The solution to a previous question (How to implement “Maintenance Mode” on already established website), was to use a modified .htaccess to deny IP addresses. What is the best way to use a web interface to modify an .htaccess file? What I want is a way for an admin to log in to the admin area and switch Maintenance Mode on and off using a basic html form. I'm using PHP and I'm already using an .htaccess file for a handful of ReWriting.
