  • multiple puppet masters

    - by Oli
I would like to set up an additional puppet master but have the CA server handled by only 1 puppet master. I have set this up as per the documentation here: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/scaling_multiple_masters.html I have configured my second puppet master as follows: [main] ... ca = false ca_server = puppet-master1.test.net I am using passenger so I am a bit confused how the virtual-host.conf file should look for my second puppet-master2.test.net. Here is mine (updated as per Shane Maddens answer): LoadModule passenger_module /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/passenger-3.0.18/ext/apache2/mod_passenger.so PassengerRoot /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/passenger-3.0.18 PassengerRuby /usr/bin/ruby Listen 8140 <VirtualHost *:8140> ProxyPassMatch ^/([^/]+/certificate.*)$ https://puppet-master1.test.net:8140/$1 SSLEngine on SSLProtocol -ALL +SSLv3 +TLSv1 SSLCipherSuite ALL:!ADH:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM:-LOW:-SSLv2:-EXP SSLCertificateFile /var/lib/puppet/ssl/certs/puppet-master2.test.net.pem SSLCertificateKeyFile /var/lib/puppet/ssl/private_keys/puppet-master2.test.net.pem #SSLCertificateChainFile /var/lib/puppet/ssl/ca/ca_crt.pem #SSLCACertificateFile /var/lib/puppet/ssl/ca/ca_crt.pem # If Apache complains about invalid signatures on the CRL, you can try disabling # CRL checking by commenting the next line, but this is not recommended. #SSLCARevocationFile /var/lib/puppet/ssl/ca/ca_crl.pem SSLVerifyClient optional SSLVerifyDepth 1 # The `ExportCertData` option is needed for agent certificate expiration warnings SSLOptions +StdEnvVars +ExportCertData # This header needs to be set if using a loadbalancer or proxy RequestHeader unset X-Forwarded-For RequestHeader set X-SSL-Subject %{SSL_CLIENT_S_DN}e RequestHeader set X-Client-DN %{SSL_CLIENT_S_DN}e RequestHeader set X-Client-Verify %{SSL_CLIENT_VERIFY}e DocumentRoot /etc/puppet/rack/public/ RackBaseURI / <Directory /etc/puppet/rack/> Options None AllowOverride None Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> I have commented out the #SSLCertificateChainFile, #SSLCACertificateFile & #SSLCARevocationFile - this is not a CA server so not sure I need this. How would I get passenger to work with these? I would like to use ProxyPassMatch which I have configured as per the documentation. I don't want to specify a ca server in every puppet.conf file. I am getting this error when trying to get create a cert from a puppet client pointing to the second puppet master server (puppet-master2.test.net): [root@puppet-client2 ~]# puppet agent --test Error: Could not request certificate: Could not intern from s: nested asn1 error Exiting; failed to retrieve certificate and waitforcert is disabled On the puppet client I have this [main] server = puppet-master2.test.net What have I missed? -- update Here is a new virtual host file on my secondary puppet master. Is this correct? I have SSL turned off? LoadModule passenger_module /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/passenger-3.0.18/ext/apache2/mod_passenger.so PassengerRoot /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/passenger-3.0.18 PassengerRuby /usr/bin/ruby # you probably want to tune these settings PassengerHighPerformance on PassengerMaxPoolSize 12 PassengerPoolIdleTime 1500 # PassengerMaxRequests 1000 PassengerStatThrottleRate 120 RackAutoDetect Off RailsAutoDetect Off Listen 8140 <VirtualHost *:8140> SSLEngine off ProxyPassMatch ^/([^/]+/certificate.*)$ https://puppet-master1.test.net:8140/$1 # Obtain Authentication Information from Client Request Headers SetEnvIf X-Client-Verify "(.*)" SSL_CLIENT_VERIFY=$1 SetEnvIf X-SSL-Client-DN "(.*)" SSL_CLIENT_S_DN=$1 DocumentRoot /etc/puppet/rack/public/ RackBaseURI / <Directory /etc/puppet/rack/> Options None AllowOverride None Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> Cheers, Oli

  • "The site's security certificate is not trusted!" on every SSL page?

    - by Isaac Waller
I'm using the latest Chrome dev build on Mac OS X. Recently, I've been getting this message on any HTTPS webpage when I visit it the first time: The site's security certificate is not trusted! You attempted to reach checkout.google.com, but the server presented a certificate issued by an entity that is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may mean that the server has generated its own security credentials, which Google Chrome cannot rely on for identity information, or an attacker may be trying to intercept your communications. You should not proceed, especially if you have never seen this warning before for this site. Why is this here, and how can I fix it? It may be because of my development build, but many other people use the dev version also, and I expect it would be fixed quicker then this.

  • Understanding vhosts settings

    - by Matt
Ok so i have a server and I want to put a few applications on and i am having vhost configuration problems. Here is what i have and I want some direction on what i am doing wrong...ok so the first file is /etc/apache2/ports.conf NameVirtualHost 184.106.111.142:80 Listen 80 <IfModule mod_ssl.c> Listen 443 </IfModule> <IfModule mod_gnutls.c> Listen 443 </IfModule> then i have /etc/apache2/sites-available/somesite.com <VirtualHost 184.106.111.142:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName somesite.com ServerAlias www.somesite.com DocumentRoot /srv/www/somesite.com/ ErrorLog /srv/www/somesite.com/logs/error.log CustomLog /srv/www/somesite.com/logs/access.log combined <Directory "/srv/www/somesite.com/"> AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews </Directory> </VirtualHost> when i visit somesite.com everything works great but when i add another vhost and lets say thats named anothersite.com. So i have /etc/apache2/sites-available/anothersite.com <VirtualHost 184.106.111.142:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName anothersite.com ServerAlias www.anothersite.com DocumentRoot /srv/www/anothersite.com/ ErrorLog /srv/www/anothersite.com/logs/error.log CustomLog /srv/www/anothersite.com/logs/access.log combined <Directory "/srv/www/anothersite.com/"> AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews </Directory> </VirtualHost> then i run the following commands >> sudo a2ensite anothersite.com Enabling site anothersite.com. Run '/etc/init.d/apache2 reload' to activate new configuration! >> /etc/init.d/apache2 reload * Reloading web server config apache2 ...done. but when i visit anothersite.com or somesite.com they are both down..What is going on with the vhosts. Could it be the NameVirtualHost declaration with the ip or something...maybe my understanding of vhost settings is not clear. What i dont understand is why do both site now all the sudden not work at all.I would highly appreciate the clarity By the way anothersite.com or somesite.com are the only things I changed to make it more readable

  • How to add another application to apache?

    - by Jader Dias
I was following the Zabbix installation tutorial for Ubuntu and it requested that I added a file /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default containing Alias /zabbix /home/zabbix/public_html/ <Directory /home/zabbix/public_html> AllowOverride FileInfo AuthConfig Limit Indexes Options MultiViews Indexes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch IncludesNoExec <Limit GET POST OPTIONS PROPFIND> Order allow, deny Allow from all </Limit> <LimitExcept GET POST OPTIONS PROPFIND> Order deny, allow Deny from all </LimitExcept> </Directory> But I already have /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/railsapp NameVirtualHost *:80 NameVirtualHost *:443 <VirtualHost *:80> UseCanonicalName Off Include /etc/apache2/conf/railsapp.conf </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:443> SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/cert.pem Include /etc/apache2/conf/railsapp.conf RequestHeader set X_FORWARDED_PROTO 'https' </VirtualHost> and /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/mercurial NameVirtualHost *:8080 <VirtualHost *:8080> UseCanonicalName Off ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost AddHandler cgi-script .cgi ScriptAliasMatch ^(.*) /usr/lib/cgi-bin/hgwebdir.cgi/$1 </VirtualHost> I think that it is because of the already existing virtual hosts that my I can't access the zabbix page. How to circumvent this?

  • Multiple urls to 1 website with a wild card ssl.

    - by dagda1
Hi, At the moment, we have 27 single sites in IIS6, all with their own urls, all with the same subdomain, e.g. https://company1.mycompany.com https://company2.mycompany.com etc., etc. To further complicate things, there is 1 wild card certificate which deals with the subdomain *.mycompany.com and is assigned to each website. All these websites run under the same codebase. We want to consolidate all these websites into 1 website. Are there any issues with having a large number of host headers running under 1 IIS6 site or is there a better way of configuring the site? Thanks Paul

  • modsecurity apache mod-security.conf missing

    - by TechMedicNYC
Greetings Serverfaultians. I'm not a server guy as you can see from my noob score of 1 point. But maybe those more versed can help me. I'm using Ubuntu v13.10 32-bit Server and Apache2 v2.4.6 and I'm trying to set up and configure modsecurity and modevasive on an internet-exposed production/test server. I am trying to follow this tutorial: http://www.thefanclub.co.za/how-to/how-install-apache2-modsecurity-and-modevasive-ubuntu-1204-lts-server. But at step 3: Now add these rules to Apache2. Open a terminal window and enter: sudo vi /etc/apache2/mods-available/mod-security.conf This file does not exist. Any suggestions?

  • New apache on mac

    - by Keith
I have installed php5 apache2 mysql5 and postgresql84 using MacPorts. I realize my mac already has apache but it didn't have apache2 nor postgesql hooked up to use with php. I want to not use the default apple apache and use the new macports install. How do I tell my computer to stop looking at the old apache? When I do apachectl in the terminal I believe it is using the old apache. I would like to hook it up to use the new one. How would I do that? The new stuff is installed at /opt/local/apache2 and the old stuff is installed at /private/etc/apache2 I went to system preferences...Sharing...and shut off Web Sharing but when I do apachectl's that turns it on and off in the preferences. I'm running in Snow Leopard.

  • Why is Mac OS X 10.6 using /usr/lib to start Apache when I compiled PHP using /opt/local/lib?

    - by Anthony
PHP 5.3.3 compiled on Mac OS X 10.6 - using /usr/lib when trying to start Apache... rather than /opt/local/lib specified when PHP was configured. Why is it trying to load from /usr/lib when I specified in my configure not to? httpd: Syntax error on line 115 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so into server: dlopen(/usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so, 10): Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib\n Referenced from: /usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so\n Reason: Incompatible library version: libphp5.so requires version 8.0.0 or later, but libiconv.2.dylib provides version 7.0.0 The error message above refers to /opt/local/lib which when I run: otool -LD /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib Message: /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib: /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib (compatibility version 8.0.0, current version 8.0.0) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 125.0.0) It shows that the version is different than what httpd is erring out as. I have a feeling I need to recompile Apache using newer libraries, but the error message still doesn't make too much sense to me.

  • Getting Apache to serve same directory with different authentication over SSL?

    - by Lasse V. Karlsen
I have set up VisualSVN server, a Subversion server that internally uses Apache, to serve my subversion repositories. I've managed to integrate WebSVN into it as well, and just now was able to get it to serve my repositories through WebSVN without having to authenticate, ie. no username or password prompt comes up. This is good. However, with this set up there is apparently no way for me to authenticate to WebSVN at all, which means all my private repositories are now invisible as far as WebSVN goes. I noticed there is a "Listen 81" directive in the .conf file, since I'm running the server on port 81 instead of 80, so I was wondering if I could set up a https:// connection to a different port, that did require authentication? The reason I need access to my private repositories is that I have linked my bug tracking system to the subversion repositories, so if I click a link in the bug tracking system, it will take me to diffs for the relevant files in WebSVN, and some products are in private repositories. Here's my Location section for WebSVN: <Location /websvn/> Options FollowSymLinks SVNListParentPath on SVNParentPath "C:/Repositories/" SVNPathAuthz on AuthName "Subversion Repository" AuthType Basic AuthBasicProvider file AuthUserFile "C:/Repositories/htpasswd" AuthzSVNAccessFile "C:/Repositories/authz" Satisfy Any Require valid-user </Location> Is there any way I can set up a separate section for a different port, say 8100, that does not have the Satisfy Any directive there, which is what enable anonymous access. Note that a different sub-directory on the server is acceptable as well, so /websvn_secure/, if I can make a location section for that and effectively serve the same content only without the Satisfy Any directive, that'd be good too.

  • Hang while starting several daemons [solved]

    - by Adrian Lang
I’m running a Debian Squeeze AMD64 server. Target runlevel after boot is runlevel 2, which includes rsyslogd, cron, sshd and some other stuff, but not dovecot, postfix, apache2, etc. The system fails to reach runlevel 2 with several symptoms: The system hangs at trying to start rsyslogd Booting into runlevel 1 works, then login from the console works Starting rsyslogd from runlevel 1 via /etc/init.d/rsyslog hangs Starting runlevel 2 with rsyslogd disabled works But then, logging in via console fails: I get the motd, and then nothing Starting sshd from runlevel 1 succeeds But then, I cannot login via ssh. Sometimes password ssh login gives me the motd and then nothing, sometimes not even this. Trying to offer a public key seems to annoy the sshd enough to not talk to me any further. When rebooting from runlevel 1, the server hangs at trying to stop apache2 (which is not running, so this really should be trivial). Trying to stop apache2 when logged in in runleve 1 does hang as well. And that’s just the stuff which fails all the time. RAM has been tested, dmesg shows no problems. I have no clue. Update: (shortened) output from rsyslogd -c4 -d called in runlevel 1 rsyslogd 4.6.4 startup, compatibility mode 4, module path '' caller requested object 'net', not found (iRet -3003) Requested to load module 'lmnet' loading module '/user/lib/rsyslog/lmnet.so' module of type 2 being loaded conf.c requested ref for 'lmnet', refcount 1 rsylog runtime initialized, version 4.6.4, current users 1 syslogd.c requested ref for 'lmnet', refcount now 2 I can kill rsyslogd with Strg+C, then. /var/log shows none of the configured log files, though. Update2: Thanks to @DerfK I still have no clue, but at least I narrowed down the problem. I’m now testing with /etc/init.d/apache2 stop (without an apache2 running, of course) which hangs as well and looks like an even more obvious failure. After some testing I found out that a file with one single line: /usr/sbin/apache2ctl configtest /dev/null 2&1 hangs, while the same line executed in an interactive shell works. I was not able to further reduce this line while, i. e. every single part, the stream redirections and the commando itself is necessary to reproduce the hang. @DerfK also pointed me to strace which gave a shallow hint about what kind of hang we have here: wait4(-1for the init scripts futex(0xsomepointer, FUTEX_WAIT_PRIVATE, 2, NULL for rsyslogd / apache2 binaries called by the init scripts The system was installed as a Debian Lenny by my hoster in autumn 2011, I upgraded it to Squeeze immediately and kept it up to date with Squeeze, which then used to be testing. There were no big changes, though. I guess I never tried to reboot the system before. Update3: I found the problem. My /etc/nsswitch.conf specified ldap as hosts lookup backup, which is not available at that time of the boot. Relying on dns solely fixes my boot problems.

  • Trying to install mod_proxy in Apache-Httpd-2.2.15

    - by Dspace
Hello, I have spent the afternoon trying to install the mod_proxy module into apache. I have tried ./configure --prefix=/opt/apache2 --enable-proxy --enable-proxy-http ./configure --prefix=/opt/apache2 --enable-module=proxy After it finishes installing, navigating to /opt/apache2/modules only shows one file: httpd.exp. It seems that the module is not being installed. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

(i have broken apt a few times...) each time though i start off re-imaging my vps(testing server) so there isn't an issue of something still being hung or crashed.can someone tell me what i am doing wrong? keep in mind this is the 12th version of this script to get nowhere. fwrite(STDOUT, "Root Password:\n"); $root_pass = chop(fgets(STDIN)); $file_apt = '/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/70debconf'; // Open the file to get existing content $current_apt = file_get_contents($file_apt); // Append a new person to the file $current_apt .= "Dpkg::Options {\"--force-confold\";};\n"; // Write the contents back to the file file_put_contents($file_apt, $current_apt); $update = shell_exec('echo '.$root_pass.' | DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive sudo -S apt-get update'); echo $update; $update_upgrade = shell_exec('echo '.$root_pass.' | DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive sudo -s apt-get upgrade'); echo $update_upgrade; $install_unattended_mysql = shell_exec('echo '.$root_pass.' | DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get install --yes --force-yes mysql-server'); echo $install_unattended_mysql; $install_mysql_set_password = shell_exec('mysql -u root -e "UPDATE mysql.user SET password=PASSWORD("'.$root_pass.'") WHERE user="root"; FLUSH PRIVILEGES;'); echo $install_mysql_set_password; i have read a few places that i needed to edit the apt.conf file so i am doing so here and doing an update and an upgrade. also the upgrade does abort when it actually has to install something. The following packages will be upgraded: apache2 apache2-doc apache2-mpm-prefork apache2-utils apache2.2-bin apache2.2-common base-files bind9 bind9-host bind9utils debian-archive-keyring dpkg dselect libbind9-60 libc-bin libc6 libdns69 libisc62 libisccc60 libisccfg62 liblwres60 locales 22 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Need to get 18.4 MB of archives. After this operation, 8192 B of additional disk space will be used. Do you want to continue [Y/n]? Abort. I also should note that only a few pieces of software are going to be installed from the apt repo's as i will include some binaries to go along with it.

  • debian LTS : how to keep packages up-to-date with last security fixes using apt

    - by Quentin
What's the best way to keep packages up-to-date (ie with the last security fixes) without worried about major version update ? For instance, apache2 for squeezeis is 2.2.16 (https://packages.debian.org/source/squeeze/apache2) However, last apache2 version for the 2.2.x branch is 2.2.27 Test repository can't be used since they use the 2.4.x versions and I'd like to stick on the 2.2.x (to avoid migration issues) How would you handle this situation and how can I update to 2.2.27 ?

  • How do I make subsonic (media server) work with SSL?

    - by John Baber
The roughly out-of-the-box setup as a regular user works fine (meaning the site appears at http://myserver.com:4040). - by ssl
Hi, I have a Linux machine which connected to an Active Directory on Windows server. I configured the NIC to get an IP from the DHCP (from the windows server) however, when I try to get nslookup on the Linux side it doesn't work (connection timeout), but on the same machine when I load windows and do nslookup it works. what can be wrong with my Linux configuration or Windows DNS configuration? note: I've configured my DNS to nonsecure and secure connections. 10x!

  • Mod Rewrite - directing HTTP/HTTPS traffic to the appropriate virtual hosts

    - by kce
I have an Apache2 web server (v. 2.2.16) running on Debian hosting three virtual hosts. The first two hosts are HTTP only (server1 and server2). The last host is HTTPS only (server3). My virtual host configuration files can be found at pastebin. I would like to use mod rewrite to get the following behavior: Any request for http://server3 is re-directed to https://server3 Any request for either https://server1 or https://server2 is re-directed to http://server1 or http://server2 as appropriate. Currently, requesting http://server3 gives you a 403 because indexing is disabled for that host and a request for https://server1 or https://server2 will resolve as https://server3 (as its the only virtual host running SSL). This behavior is not desirable. So far I have added a rewrite rule to the central configuration file (myServerWideConfs.conf), with unfortunately no effect. I was under the impression that this rule (or something similar) should rewrite all https:// requests for server1 and server2 to the proper http:// request. RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^server3 [NC] RewriteRule (.*) http://%{HTTP_HOST} My question is two-fold: What mod rewrite rules should I use to accomplish this? And where should they go? Debian's packaging of Apache has a pretty granular (i.e., fractured) configuration file layout; should my rewrite rules go in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf, /etc/apache2/conf.d/myServerWideConfs.conf, or the individual virtual host files? Is mod rewrite the right tool to accomplish this or am I missing something in my greater apache configuration?

  • Clean URLs issue using .htaccess in PHP project

    - by x4ph4r
I am working on a PHP laravel project. I am currently facing issues with .htaccess file. I have following .htaccess: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> Options -MultiViews RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^ index.php [L] </IfModule> When I reload my page the it gave me following error: 404 Not Found The requested URL /contacts was not found on this server. Then I opened /etc/apache2/users/username.conf file which had following line of code: <Directory "/Users/username/Sites/"> Options Indexes MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> In above code I changed AllowOverride None to AllowOverride All. Then I reload page and got following error: 403 Forbidden You don't have permission to access /contacts on this server. When I add FollowSymLinks to .htaccess file Options such as like this Options -MultiViews FollowSymLinks. Then sometimes I get this 500 Internal Server Error error and sometime this *Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data*. Each time I reload my page one of these errors with FollowSymLinks option. I also uncomment following lines in /etc/apache2/httpd.conf: LoadModule rewrite_module libexec/apache2/mod_rewrite.so LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so and still I am getting same permission denied error. Please help me I am trying to solve this problem for past 3 days but it is till unresolved.
