• SRSS Client Print Module must be downloaded every use

  I am currently having an issue with SQL Server Reporting Services. Everytime a user clicks the print button for the report, the user must install the ActiveX client print module. The issue is that our clients are not admins on their computers. So therefore they can not install the module. I have gotten around this roughly by adding the SQL address to trust sites, setting "Download signed Active Controls" to enable, and then giving the users permission to write to "C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files". However, this is fix is not easy to distrubute to our user base. I am using SQL Server 2008 SP3 CU3 running on Server 2008 R2. I believe the browser thinks the version is newer than what is on the server. I have tried downloading the print module CAB file from the SQL server and installing manually. That did not work either. • Alsa hardware volume with PulseAudio

  Before installing pulseaudio, I was able to control volume for the front (meaning on the front panel, the "headphone" jack) and rear (meaning on the back panel, the "line out" jack) separately. When I installed pulseaudio, it became possible to control volume for each playing process separately, but the individual controls for outputs disappeared. While the default device in alsa now routes via pulseaudio, the sysdefault device provides access to the hardware. But kmix does not seem to let me show them now. Is there any way to beat kmix into showing the sysdefault device too? Or something else X-based that would not fight with kmix too much? The system is Debian Jessie (testing) amd64, updated, KDE version 4:4.13.3-1.

• Error using Session in IIS7

  After deployment of my website to IIS I'm getting a following error message when trying to access session: Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the \\ section in the application configuration. I access it in Page_Load or PreRender events (I tried both versions). With VS Dev Server it works without a problem. I tried both InProc an SessionState storage, 1 and multiple woker processes. I added a enableSessionState = "true" to my webpage explicitly. • Java works under Firefox but crashes Internet Explorer

  Java works under Firefox and Chrome but not under IE. Here's what I tried (the advice normally given on forums): Java applet activated in tools - internet options - security tab - personnalise - Java applets Activated in tools - manage add-ons - tool bars and extensions - Java (tm) SSV2 helper - Activate Activated in tools - internet options - advanced tab - Use JRE for applet I've also deleted my temporary internet files (with Ccleaner), Reinstalled IE8 It is also set as the default Java for IE through the control panel - Java - Advanced tab - default Java for browsers - Microsoft Internet Explorer IE version: 8.0.6001.18702 Java version: 1.7.0_03. (also tried with 1.6.0_31) Windows XP SP3. Any advice? Thanks :) edit: I have activated the ActiveX controls through manage add-ons - all add-ons but now, although the coffe cup loading screen appears (which did not before) it makes IE crash (which is new). I might have fiddled too much with the registry by trying to completely remove Java to reinstall it, so I ran "rereg" (a tool to repair dlls and their registry entries) without success.

  I am doing a custom control (inherited from VisualBasic.PowerPacks.LineShape), that should be painted like as standard one, but also having a Icon displayed near it. • How to make VLC show single FLAC file containing many tracks as separate tracks

  I have a single .flac file that encompasses multiple tracks comprising a music album along with the corresponding .cue file. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with VLC player, and am trying to get VLC player to show the individual tracks and allow me to use the previous and next controls to move back and forth between tracks. The problem I'm having is that when I open the single .flac file with VLC, it just shows a single track the duration of the entire album, and I'm unable to skip back and forth between tracks. Is there any way to have VLC show the individual tracks contained within a .flac file without having to pre-split the .flac file into individual track files first?

• Is there a way to change the date format used when InfoPath saves the form data to xml?

  I have an InfoPath Form template that has some Date Picker controls in it bound to elements in an xml data source. I know I can change the display format of the date by going into the Date Picker Properties and setting the date format. This foramt is only used for display puposes when the form is being filled out. When the form is saved as an xml file the date is always stored in the format YYYY-MM-DD. Is there a way to change the date format that gets serialized to xml? I'm using InfoPath 2007.

  My HP pavilion laptop is getting pretty old and the speakers no longer work properly. So I've disabled all audio devices, including disabling the light-touch volume controls at boot-up. The one sound still here that I can't get rid of is teh alert beep whenever there's an error. It's annoying at the best of times, but when your laptop has no other sounds at all it's intensly irritating! Nothing I change in the windows settings or in the BIOS seems to have any effect. Any ideas how to switch them off?

• Create Virtual Image of Laptop before Formatting

  I have a 3 year old laptop running Windows XP that I used for business. Although I have not used the laptop in over a year, I now want to re-commission it with Windows 7 and a fresh install. Before I do the fresh install I want to create a Virtual Image of the laptop that I can keep and potentially run on my desktop machine should I ever need to access any of the old files/projects that it contains currently. I know that most people will say just copy the files over to your desktop, but my concern is the configuration of the laptop. I used to use it for development and it has older versions of Visual Studio, SQL Server, Active X controls etc, etc than I currently use so I really want to preserve the environment not just the files. So really I am asking what is the best tool-set/method to achieve this? I understand there are free VM tools available but I have never done this before and would appreciate any help.

• Bootcamp's "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys" switches back automatically

  I use Windows 7 in a Bootcamp partition on my iMac. I always check the option "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys", and when it's checked, everything works great. But recently, something switches this setting back to 'unchecked' every few minutes. I constantly have to open the Boot Camp Control Panel, uncheck the checkbox, check it again and click on 'Apply'. And five minutes later, the F2 key again controls the brightness of the screen and not the renaming of files in Explorer. This is driving me mad. What could be the cause of this? Is there a keystroke to switch this feature?

• Fluent Nhibernate Mapping Single class on two database tables

  Hi guys, I am having problems with Mapping. I have two tables in my database as follows: Employee and EmployeeManagers Employee EmployeeId int Name nvarchar EmployeeManagers EmployeeIdFk int ManagerIdFk int So the employee can have 0 or more Managers. A manager itself is also an Employee. I have the following class to represent the Employee and Managers public class Employee { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual string Name { get; set; } public virtual IList<Employee> Managers { get; protected set; } public Employee() { Managers = new List<Employee>(); } } I don't have any class to represent Manager because I think there is no need for it, as Manager itself is an Employee. I am using autoMapping and I just can't figure out how to map this class to these two tables. • Presenting an image cropping interface

  I'm trying to engineer a UI for cropping images in iphone OS and suspect I'm going about things the hard way. My goal is pretty much what the Tapbots duo have done with Pastebot. In that app, they dim the source image but provide a movable and resizable cropping view and the image you're cropping is in a zoomable scrollview; when you resize or move the underlying image, the cropping view adjusts appropriately. I mocked up a composite image which will give a sense of the design I'm after, along with how I presently have my view hierarchy setup, viewable here The approach I've started with is the following: UIImageView with the image to crop is in a scrollview, a plain UIView with black fill and suitable transparency/alpha setting is added in front of the imageview. I then use a custom UIView which is a sibling to the scrollview at a higher level, which implements the drawRect: method and for the most part calls CGImageCreateWithImageInRect to get the portion of the image's bitmap that matches the position of the cropping view and draws that to the CGContext. in the viewcontroller I'm using the UIScrollViewDelegate methods to track scrolling and passing those changes to the custom cropping UIView so it stays in sync with the scroll contentOffset. That much is finally working. But trying to keep in sync as the scrollview zoomScale changes is when I figured I should ask for help. Looking for suggestions or guidance. My initial approach just seems like more work than is required. Could this be done with a masking layer in the ImageView? And if so, how would I setup the tracking for moving and resizing the cropping rect? My experience working with layers is non-nil, but very limited thus far.

• I'm looking for an online ASP.NET tutor.

  $15/hr. I know it's not much but... Hi. I'm looking for an ASP.NET tutor. I want to use a remote desktop application so we can see each others screens and use Skype or phone to communicate with. You won't need to come up with any lessons or anything like that. I was thinking we could spend an hour or two each time we logged in to build a decent sized website from scratch. That's basically it. I'm a beginner with about 2 months experience with ASP.NET so we won't have to start from the very beginning, but pretty close. I wanted this site to have a little complexity to it and not just a website for beginners, but something I could study for a while. I'll pay you through PayPal or some other method if you prefer. By the way, it doesn't have to be a website that we work on together. I'll listen to other suggestions too. Maybe we could use an open source site/app to walk-through and study and modify. I've looked at 'My Web Pages Starter Kit 1.30', 'SubText 2.1.2', 'nopCommerce 1.5', and some others. They were all beyond me, and I couldn't make sense of any of the source code. But if you use and are really familiar with an open source app/site that I can download, we could study that. Here are some technical specs about the site I'd like to build/study: ASP.NET 2.0+ (preferably 3.5+, but I don't really care) C# / VB.NET ( don't really care, I suck at both. This is more about ASP.NET and helping me understand the structure of an ASP.NET website and the .NET framework in general. ) SQL Server ( I have SQL Server 2008 express and would someday like to learn how to use this thing. ) JavaScript / AJAX ( at least some use of this ) XML ( basically, I'd like to spend some time in the web.config file, and have some sense of what's going on in there. ) ASP.NET Folders ( I'd like to work with all of the ASP.NET folders if possible: App_Code, App_GlobalResources, etc.. and understand what does/doesn't go in them. Hopefully we can build more than one theme too. ) Assemblies ( how do you create a .dll and use it across different websites? maybe you could suggest a third party .dll that we could use ) Web Service ( I read about this once but didn't really get it ) I can't think of anything else but the above will definitely keep me busy. Hopefully we could make use of a lot of the server controls too (the nav controls gave me a headache when I tried customizing them). Is someone willing to help? I'll pay through PayPal 15 bucks an hour. I live in the Dallas, Texas (US) area so we'd have to synchronize time zones and agree on a day(s)/time of the week. • How to control the time before Windows 7 wakes from standby and hibernates?

  Ever since I reformatted my laptop, it just hasn't been the same. Before reformatting I noticed that if it was in standby for around 24 hours, it would automatically wake up and go into hibernation. I think that's a pretty cool feature and I didn't mind it. But lately, it's been waiting only a few hours (maybe 3-6; I haven't really timed it or paid enough attention) before waking up from standby and going into hibernation. There have been a few instances where this has been bothersome, and I'd like to change it back to a nice long wait time. Where is this setting? What setting in Windows controls the time before the computer wakes up from standby and goes into hibernation?

• A different interface for the Sql Server Reporting Service?

  I have a SQL Server 2005 SQL Reporting Services implementation. It seems that the only way to actually access the reports is for the users to use Internet Explorer. The web page uses an ActiveX control to do its printing (and probably other functions as well). Does SSRS have a different way to access its functionality via the web browser? Like maybe Java or HTML based? If so, how do I actually turn it on? The reason I am asking is because the security is being tightened and ActiveX controls will be banished, thus the users won't be able to print.

• Option do not show schema names in SQL Server Management Studio

  I love the fact that tree and list controls in Windows allows incremental searches. Just select a starting point, and type, and the control will select the best matching node for you. This works in SSMS, but there's an annoying problem, especially so in the table node. SSMS prefixes all table names with the schema name and a dot. To make an incremental search here, I have to type 'dbo.', followed by whatever I'm searching for. Is there an option to turn off this table name representation in SSMS? I hope I'm asking this on the right stack exchange site. If you feel it's off base, let me know!

• Web page database query optimization

  I am putting together a web page which is quite 'expensive' in terms of database hits. I don't want to start optimizing at this stage - though with me trying to hit a deadline, I may end up not optimizing at all. Currently the page requires 18 (that's right eighteen) hits to the db. I am already using joins, and some of the queries are UNIONed to minimize the trips to the db. My local dev machine can handle this (page is not slow) however, I feel if I release this into the wild, the number of queries will quickly overwhelm my database (MySQL). I could always use memcache or something similar, but I would much rather continue with my other dev work that needs to be completed before the deadline - at least retrieving the page works - its simply a matter of optimization now (if required). My question therefore is - is 18 db queries for a single page retrieval completely outrageous - (i.e. I should put everything on hold and optimize the hell of the retrieval logic), or shall I continue as normal, meet the deadline and release on schedule and see what happens? [Edit] Just to clarify, I have already done the 'obvious' things like using (single and composite) indexes for fields used in the queries. What I haven't yet done is to run a query analyzer to see if my indexes etc are optimal.

  I have a group of 13 properties in a class. I created a struct for these properties and passed it to another class. I need to add another 10 groups of these 13 properties. So thats 130 properties in total. What do I do? I could add all 130 properties to the struct. Will this affect performance and readability I could create a list of structs but don't know how to access an item eg. to add to the list: listRowItems.Add(new RowItems(){a=1, b=1, c=1, d=1...}); listRowItems.Add(new RowItems(){a=2, b=2, c=2, d=2...}); How do I access the second group item b? is it Could I use just a dictionary with 130 items Should I use a list of dictionaries (again I don't know how to access a particular item) Should I pass in a class of 130 properties Just for your interest the properties are css parameters used for a composite control. The control displays 13 elements in each row and there are 10 rows and each row is customisable.

• WebClient.DownloadDataAsync is freezing my UI

  Hi, I have in my Form constructor, after the InitializeComponent the following code: using (WebClient client = new WebClient()) { client.DownloadDataCompleted += new DownloadDataCompletedEventHandler(client_DownloadDataCompleted); client.DownloadDataAsync("http://example.com/version.txt"); } When I start my form, the UI doesn't appears till client_DownloadDataCompleted is raised. • make IIS 7.5 cache static content files over diferent pages

  On a Windows 2008 R2, using DNS and IIS I've established my development test server; i.e. I'll have a web application that I can browse on http://test.dev I've moved all the static content files like images, js files and css files into another application which is visible on http://cdn.test.dev test.dev, uses cdn.test.dev urls like http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js to load js, css and images. When I first load "~/" of test.dev, all files will load with a response code of 200; when I press F5 in Firefox, all files, except the "~/default.aspx", will load with 304 response code; but pressing Ctrl+F5 loads them again with a 200 code; if I browse another url like "~/pages/" in test.dev, all of those static files will reload with a 200 code... Is this normal or I'm doing something wrong? Actually, I'm looking for a behavior like this: I want the client to load http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js, only once. I want the client's browser to use this jquery.js file, from cache, in all other pages of test.dev Is this possible?
