    Dear Folks, I am trying to sort string column (containing numbers). // SELECT `name` FROM `mytable` ORDER BY `name` ASC +----------+ +-- name --+ +----------+ +-- a 1 ---+ +-- a 12 --+ +-- a 2 ---+ +-- a 3 ---+ You see natural sorting algorithm of Mysql is placing a 12 after a 1 (which is ok for most apps), But I have unique needs, so I want result should be sorted like this. +----------+ +-- name --+ +----------+ +-- a 1 ---+ +-- a 2 ---+ +-- a 3 ---+ +-- a 12 --+ Is it possible with just SQL, or I have to manipulate result-set at application level?     I'm looking for a bus to connect a nios-II core to an external vhdl module i have written. I can probably do it with GPIOs but this seems like a poor way of doing it and pretty much requires me to implement my own bus from scratch. Does altera provide any sort of bus like structure in SOPC I could use to do this? Thanks!

    I'm using nested routes and I want to provide some sort of a shortcut method. (I'm using RoR 3.0) The routes look like this. resources :countries do resources :regions do resources :wineries end end To access a winery route I want to be able to define a function that removes the need to specify a country and region each time. Like: def winery_path(winery) country_region_winery_path (winery.country, winery.region, winery) end Where should I do this? How can I get that to be available whereever url_for is available?

  • Adding additional sorting attributes to array of records...then sorting!

    Let's say I run an ActiveRecord query and it returns 3 results, with a bunch of attributes. I want to add 3 attributes to each record in the Array so I can do sorting at a code-level. These 3 include: num_comments, num_views, last_view. How do I add these attributes? How do I then sort the records, in order of precendence, by num_comments AND by num_views AND by last_view?

  • Rails Heroku Gemfile.lock error - push rejected (open source)

    I am trying to push my open source RoR application to Heroku but I'm having an issue making the initial push. I have read many similar questions, but none of those answers has helped to solve my problem. I have tried bundle update and bundle install various times. I also have tried removing and then re-committing my Gemfile.lock file, however I get this same error still... $ git push heroku master Counting objects: 5199, done. Total 5199 (delta 3418), reused 3152 (delta 1962) -----> Removing .DS_Store files -----> Ruby app detected -----> Compiling Ruby/NoLockfile ! ! Gemfile.lock required. Please check it in. ! ! Push rejected, failed to compile Ruby app To [email protected]:frozen-springs-4725.git ! [remote rejected] master -> master (pre-receive hook declined) error: failed to push some refs to '[email protected]:frozen-springs-4725.git' Since my application uses MongoDB with MongoMapper, I suspect that I have some configuration incorrect. My code can be found here on Github (I'm currently working on the heroku branch). Feel free to clone our repository and try it yourself. If anyone has any insight which could help me resolve this issue I would be very thankful!

  • What can you do in C without "std" includes? Are they part of "C," or just libraries?

    I apologize if this is a subjective or repeated question. It's sort of awkward to search for, so I wasn't sure what terms to include. What I'd like to know is what the basic foundation tools/functions are in C when you don't include standard libraries like stdio and stdlib. What could I do if there's no printf(), fopen(), etc? Also, are those libraries technically part of the "C" language, or are they just very useful and effectively essential libraries?

    I run a site where users can upload content that is displayed in a gallery where other users can sort and filter that content. While implementing RSS feeds, I was wondering how common it was for an RSS feed to display items in an order that's different from chronological. For example, displaying content by Most Views first. This could be useful for someone wanting to keep tabs on trending content. How do RSS readers handle this, since most RSS feeds are ordered chronologically?

    I seem to recall hearing at some point (I believe it was MIX09) that Microsoft has a licensing model of some sort where a business can consume licenses for up to two years, free of charge, until they reach a point where they are stable position and can pay their licensing at the end of two years. However, I can't find information regarding it online. I want to say that possibly stackoverflow used this licensing model to kick start their site. Is anyone familiar with this?

  • Default Sorting in DynamicData

    I am using DynamicData in the version that shipped with VS2008. In the default List view, the data is sorted by order of entry into the database. I'd like to get it sorted by a field of a specific name (descending). As a last resort I tried to use the OrderByParameter of the LinqDataSource with a QueryStringParameter, but I could not get it to sort anything. =) Is there an easy way to accomplish this?

    Do graphic cards have instruction sets of their own? I assume they do, but I have been wondering if it is proprietary or if there is some sort of open standard. Is every GPU instruction preceded by a CPU instruction or is it seamless? That is does OpenGL or DirectX call on the driver layer via the CPU which then sends a GPU instruction down the bus or is it more elaborate.

  • Implementing Tagging System with PHP and mySQL. Caching help!!!

    With reference to this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2122546/how-to-implement-tag-counting I have implemented the suggested 3 table tagging system completely. To count the number of Articles per tag, i am using another column named tagArticleCount in the tag definition table. (other columns are tagId, tagText, tagUrl, tagArticleCount). If i implement realtime editing of this table, so that whenever user adds another tag to article or deletes an existing tag, the tag_definition_table is updated to update the counter of the added/removed tag. This will cost an extra query each time any modification is made. (at the same time, related link entry for tag and article is deleted from tagLinkTable). An alternative to this is not allowing any real time editing to the counter, instead use CRONs to update counter of each tag after a specified time period. Here comes the problem that i want to discuss. This can be seen as caching the article count in database. Can you please help me find a way to present the articles in a list when a tag is explored and when the article counter for that tag is not up to date. For example: 1. Counter shows 50 articles, but there are infact 55 entries in the tag link table (that links tags and articles). 2. Counter shows 50 articles, but there are infact 45 extries in the tag link table. How to handle these 2 scenerios given in example. I am going to use APC to keep cache of these counters. Consider it too in your solution. Also discuss performance in the realtime / CRONNED counter updates.
