• Nifty GUI Layout

  I am new to JME3 game engine but I know Android XML GUI layouts pretty good. I have a simple layout here and I cant figure out what is wrong. I have tried different alignments and tried moving the text into different panels but no matter what I do the text is never in the center of the screen. Its always in the upper left corner so far I can only see the lower right part of the text. I'm sure it has to be something simple but since I'm new to this I'm not noticing anything. • how can I add a custom non-DataTable column to my DataView, in a winforms ADO.net application?

  Hi, How could I (/is it possible) to add a custom column to my DataView, and in this column display the result of a specific calculation. That is, I currently have a dataGridView which has a binding to a DataView, based on the DataTable from my database. I'd like to add an additional column to the dataGridView to display a number which is calculated by looking at this current row plus it's children row. In other words the info for the column isn't just derivable from the row data itself. Specific questions might be: a) where to add the column itself? to the DataView I assume? b) which method / event to trigger the re-calculation of the value of this custom column from ( / how do I control this) Thanks PS. • Disabling screen saver programatically doesn't affect the control panel?

  I've successfully disabled the screensaver using the method described in this page. The problem is that when I do this, the control panel dialog still indicates that there is an active screensaver. Nothing seems to be changed there. If the user checks it, he has no way of knowing why the screen saver doesn't work. Is this the expected behavior? Isn't this a problem? I'm on windows XP x64 fully patched with the latest updates.

  I am currently working on a project related to Websphere Portal 7.0 on Windows Server 2008 R2,64 bit. I am trying to integrate websphere portal with my custom user registry.I have completed all the steps required to implement custom user registry in portal as given in IBM documentation.I am adding my custom repository to the default federated repositories of Portal 7.0.I have made the required changes under VMM Federated CUR Properties section in wkplc.properties.I am using configengine.bat file to configure Portal with user registry. • Dock Panel component for .NET that allows docking inside tab-pages?

  I want to build a user-interface that, for historical reasons, has a lot of "columns" of information. Many of these aren't relevant for all users in all cases, so I thought I'd look at dock panels to allow the users to hide or rearrange the columns according to their job scenario. This is Winforms in .NET 3.5. As such, I'd like the following: Have tab-pages in the main form Each tab-page can have dock-panels docked into them Dock-panels should be movable from one tab-page to another I've tried the following component packages so far without luck: Telerik Allows me to dock inside a tab-page, but dock-panels can't move from one tab-page to another. When attempting to drop a floating panel onto a different tab-page than the one it came from, it appears the dock will succeed, but when dropped it is docked on its owner container. Divelements SandDoc Same problems as with Telerik. DevExpress XtraBars Same problems as with Telerik. Basically, does anyone know of any such component (package) that would allow me to do what I want?

• Having vCam on custom classes instead of the root class.

  Maybe some of you guys know bout vCam from http://bryanheisey.com/blog/?page_id=22 I'm trying to have the script running on a custom classes instead of a MovieClip in the library. But after some trying I fail so I stick back to having the MC in the library and load the MC from the project root action-script files. Now it works fine if I run the MC on the root as files, but for more organizing purposes on my action-script files, I was thinking of calling it from a custom classes(where I can control the vCam), then call the custom classes from the root action-script files. But seems like it won't work other than the root action-script files. I'm not sure whether I'm missing any codes between the two custom classes, or its not coded to run that way. If it's not, then its fine too just that I want the things more organize. Or if you have any idea how to 'by-pass' this, please do tell me so. • Which Win32 API reports the Format preference in the Region and Language control panel?

  Windows 7 and Windows Vista have a Region and Language control panel which contains a Formats tab which contains a popup menu titled Format. This menu allows the user to select from among many language-oriented sets of number, currency, time, and date formatting preferences regardless of the language of the base system. For example, I could decide I prefer the default currency symbol to be Japanese yen on a US English system. The Windows Contacts application changes its behavior depending on these format preferences. For example, if I select Japanese formatting preferences, Windows Contacts displays and lets me edit phonetic names (AKA "ruby", "yomi", and "furigana") but not middle names. If I select US English formatting preferences, Windows Contacts displays and lets me edit middle names but not phonetic names. I need to write code (native C calling Win32) which mirrors the behavior of the Windows Contacts application in this respect. Which API should I call?

• Is it possible to change where things are in Chrome's Developer Tools Script panel?

  When debugging browser-based apps using Google Chrome's Developer Tools, is there a way to change the locations of the various panes? Specifically in the Scripts panel (though I suppose it's a general question). E.g., the Watch Expressions, the Call Stack, the code pane, etc.? The defaults are okay (console at bottom, code pane upper left, a column of Watch Expressions, Call Stack, Scope Vars, etc. in the upper right), but I'd rather swap things around a bit if it's possible. There doesn't seem to be anything to grab (other than for sizing) and I haven't found a way in my searching so far, but there are (still) some things about Chrome's options that aren't ... well-advertised in the UI, shall we say :-), especially around developer tools.

• VS2010: Why do my custom Toolbox tabs and contained controls keep disappearing?

  This is how I expected the toolbox to work: Let's say I add a custom Tab to the Toolbox called "Ajaxtoolkit." To add controls to the new tab, I right mouse click and select "Choose Items" and browse to a file, Ajaxtoolkit.dll, that is of a particular version number. I would expect that when I save and reopen the solution, that the Ajax Toolkit custom tab would still be in my Toolbox and that it would contain the same controls that were there last time, the controls that were in the dll that I referenced when the controls were added. If I created a brand new web app, I (possibly) wouldn't expect to see the same Ajax Toolkit custom tab. However, I could perform the same steps as above and add a "Ajax Toolkit" tab and perhaps, this time, select a DIFFERENT VERSION of the tookit, and the state of the toolkit would be retained with each solution file. Another possibility would be for the original Ajaxtoolkit to be retained when the 2nd web solution is created, and perhaps, if I wanted to mix versions of the toolkit across diffreent web sites in my solution, I should start naming my custom toolkit tabs with version specific names like "Ajaxtoolkit 4.0," etc. ...But instead, the Ajaxtoolkit tab disappears when I close VS2010 and reopen it. Why? Is this desirable behavior or a bug?

• Missing 'DomContentLoaded' and 'load' time information in Firebug's Net Panel.

  Hello, Firebug is awesome in reporting the relative time when an HTTP request was made with respect to the 'DomContentLoaded' and 'load' time. However, once the 'load' event occurs (seen by the red line on the timeline), the requests thereafter do not have any information about how later they occurred with respect to the two events. To confuse things, these requests (usually at the bottom of the timeline) appear to have started right at the beginning of the page load. Could somebody shed some light on what should i infer when i see such entries in the timeline which do not have information about the 'DomContentLoaded' and 'load' event times and appear to have occurred after the page load event, still net panel shows that they started at the beginning?   I've created an NSUndoManager for the Managed Object Context of Core Data, like this: NSUndoManager *undoManager = [[NSUndoManager alloc] init]; [undoManager setLevelsOfUndo:10]; [managedObjectContext setUndoManager:undoManager]; [undoManager release]; In the app delegate where the didFinishLaunching method is called, I did this: application.applicationSupportsShakeToEdit = YES; For some reason, I never get that undo/redo panel when I make a shake gesture in iPhone Simulator (from the menu). Must I enable undo/redo somewhere else, maybe in the Info.plist file?

But I fail, the table is never updated (I have "setOutputMarkupId(true)" and call "addComponent", but there must be something other thats wrong). How can I realize a panel with a number of links and a table that displays dynamic data, dependent on the link clicked? Can someone give an example (Maybe two links, when the first one is clicked the table displays two random numbers from 1-10, when the second is clicked the table displays random numbers from 1-100)? Without reloading the entire page, but only the html for the table?

• How can I force the text go to the button of the panel?

  At the moment I have the following code which works fine. label = new JLabel(panelLabel,SwingConstants.CENTER); outputPanel.add(label,BorderLayout.CENTER); I get the text in the center of the panel (in terms of the left-right position as well as in terms of the top-bottom). Now I want to set the position to the bottom (and center in terms of "left-right"). I tried to use SOUTH instead of the CENTER in the first line. Compiler does not complains but during the execution i get IllegalArgumentException: HorizontalAlignment. What is that?

• Admin panel - what is the best way to display "static" data in the layout?

  I'm about to write a admin panel for my CMS written in CodeIgniter. There will be some user information visible at all time - both in the layout's header section and the sidebar. I'm used to do it in a way that I personally hope and think could be done a lot easier, since I'm tired of sending the same parametres to the view over and over again, when it's dynamic data that needs to be displayed on every page anyways (such as unread messages, username, name, status, etc). I'll need controllers and models, I know that, but do I have to pass, just for an example, the user's username, unread messages etc. every time I need to load a view? Should I do some kind of library for this? Now my question is: How would I do it when it comes to best practice and for making it easy to maintain in the future? I hope my question is understandable :)

• Java: Is it possible to take a GUI Panel and output it into a picture?

  So I have this chart that's a little special. Kind of like an XY plot of points but my boss wanted to look like a bunch of boxes rather than dots connected by lines. And I basically made a chart using gridlayout and a whole bunch of cells that I'll be colouring in black or white depending on the data. Now he sorta wants it to be outputted to a image file. Is there any way to save a Panel into a picture? He wants to display not only the data but also save a visual representation of the data into an image file.

It currently supports all commands through execvp calls, in-built commands like pwd, cd, history, echo and export, and also redirection and pipes. Now I wanted to add support for running a command in background e.g. $ls -la& I also want to implement bg and fg job control commands. I know this can be achieved if I execute the command by forking a new child process and not waiting for it in the parent process. But how do I again bring this command to foreground using fg? I have the idea of entering each background command in a list assigning each of them a serial number. But I don't know how do I make the processes execute in the background, then bring them back to foreground. I guess wait() and waitpid() system calls would come handy but I am not that comfortable with them. I tried reading the man pages but still am in the dark. Can someone please explain in a layman's language how to achieve this in UNIX system programming? And does it have something to do with SIGCONT and SIGSTP signals?

• How should I determine my rates for writing custom software?

  For a custom software that will likely take a year or more to develop, how would I go about determining what to charge as a consultant? I'm having a hard time coming up with a number, and searches online are providing vastly different numbers (between $55/hr and $300/hr). I don't want to shoot too low because it's going to take me so much time (and I'm deferring my education for this project). I also don't want to shoot too high and get unpleasant looks and demand for justification. FWIW I live in Canada, and have approx. 10 years of development experience. I've read the "take your salary and divide it by 1000" rule of thumb, but the thing is I don't have a salary. Currently I'm just doing fairly small programming tasks for a friend who is starting a marketing company, pricing each task fairly arbitrarily. I don't know what I would make over the course of a year doing it, but it would be incredibly low. My responsibilities for the project would be the architecture, programming, database, server, and UX to some degree. It's going to be a public facing web service so I will also need to put a lot of effort into security and scalability. Any advice or experience?
