• iPhone - how to store documents consisting of multiple images?

  My iPhone (actually, iPad) app creates documents that consist of several images, plus a bit of metadata. What's the best practice for storing these sorts of documents on disk? I see two main options: Create a folder for each document, and store my images as separate PNG files within the folder (plus another little file for the metadata). Create a single file which contains all images and metadata. But I'm not sure how to easily do option 2. I think I can convert my images in PNG format to/from NSData, but then what? I'm still a newbie at Cocoa, but I believe I saw something about stuffing mixed data into some NSSomethingOrOther and having this write itself out to disk, and read itself back in later. Does this ring a bell with anyone? And, will it work with large binary blobs of data like my images? Or would you recommend I simply go with option 1?

• JW Player - How can I add an event listener for fullscreen toggling?

  I'm using JW Player 4.5 on my site and I need to add an event listener for when fullscreen is toggled. The reason for this is to switch between a low-def version and high-def version. The default video will be the low-def version and when they switch to a fullscreen display, it will change to the high-def version. According to http://developer.longtailvideo.com/trac/wiki/Player5Events, the ViewEvent.JWPLAYER_VIEW_FULLSCREEN1 event can only be called from Actionscript. I need it to be from Javascript... Is there any way to achieve this? Can you recommend a better solution?

  We are using drag & drop utility between one source and multiple targets. We have a restriction that one of the target can only have one child element while the other ones can have multiple items. • Can Microsoft store three-valued fields in a single bit?

  I'm completely ignorant of SQL/databases, but I was chatting with a friend who does a lot of database work about how some databases use a "boolean" field that can take a value of NULL in addition to true and false. Regarding this, he made a comment along these lines: "To Microsoft's credit, they have never referred to that kind of field as a boolean, they just call it a bit. And it's a true bit - if you have eight or fewer bit fields in a record, it only requires one byte to store them all." Naturally that seems impossible to me - if the field can hold three values you're not going to fit eight of them into a byte. My friend agreed that it seemed odd, but begged ignorance of the low-level internals and said that so far as he knew, such fields can hold three values when viewed from the SQL side, and it does work out to require a byte of storage. I imagine one of us has a wire crossed. Can anyone explain what's really going on here?

For instance: IEnumerable<MyType> list = someCollection.Select(i => new MyType(i)); foreach (var item in list) item.PropertyChanged += item_PropertyChanged; <-- this never gets called Bu if list is assigned like list = someCollection.Select(i => new MyType(i)).ToArray(); the event handler does get called.. Why? (I imagine it has something to do with the fact that a LINQ query is lazy, but the fact of looping through the result isn't enough?)

  Hi, I would like to verify the identity of each instance of the iPhone application that a user might use to connect to my service. To that end, I would like each instance of the iPhone app downloaded to include a certificate that I generate, or even some sort of UUID that I have generated. Does the App Store support the inclusion of unique files in an app bundle? Or, must such identifiers be downloaded only after the app is installed? If that is the case, is there a mechanism to ensure that the app downloaded is trusted (from me), instead of from an impersonator?

  Hi, I have a fairly complex html form enhanced via jquery. It has multiple tabs, within each one things like a html form builder, uploads, descriptions. There is lots of data, and as the user flicks around the various tabs I'm thinking of posting the data to the server. For example, the form builder, has about 10 properties for each field, as the user flicks between the various fields, an ajax request saves the current values, then loads a new set from the new field clicked on. When the user hits save, the idea is then on the server all these bits and pieces come together and become the live version (i may store them as a temp version while the user is working away). So I guess my question is, for complex forms where the same fields are re-used within the one form, does anyone attempt to save all this data locally and upload it in one hit or do most of you do little ajax post's and compile it all when the final save button is hit? b

There are two different data coming from the internet, one is changing every one hour and another one does not change basically. So for the first type of data, I need to implement an expire policy to make it self deleted after it was created for 1 hour, and when user request that data, I will check the storage first and then goto internet if nothing found.   hi, After being through numerous forums available on the net for last 5 days, I am still not able to completely track down the browser close event. My requirement is to generate a popup message, when user tries to close the browser. I have called my javascript function on body 'onbeforeunload' event. And I have hardcoded the conditions to check the mouse-coordinates for the red 'X' buton of browser, refresh, File-close or Alt-F4. My code works fine when browser window is Maximized, but fails if we shrink it after a limit. Please help me, if some body has already found the solution to a similar problem. Thank you. Hi ppl, Thanks for all who replied atleast. I have talked to my seniors regarding this and they have now understood and have compromised with the browser menu buttons. So now my task has become easy. How do you store data on a google application you create in which you and others in a specific group or more specifically the people who can edit a specific calendar, can reach this data? Person A,B,C have read/write access to a calendar, and lets say they want to co-ordinate information. I want this information to not be accessible to modify by all 3 though it is not stored in a calendar? (Though I thought about just creating an event in 1900 and then that fullfills that, but at the same time is a very hack way to do it) I would appreciate any insight you can give me when it comes to data handling in google applications, I am very new to it, but have been looking into it.

  I have an app that allows users to generate and publish content. I would like to possibly be able to use the content they publish/create to make derivative works, ie books etc (similar to what icanhazcheeseburger has done.) If I were to put an opt in alert to ask the user whether or not they would like to be a part of this, would this violate the iphone sdk? I know this is not programming question so I'm not sure if this is a fair question, but I thought I heard something like you can't add a eula you have to abide by whatever apple dictates in their app store agreement. So far I can manipulate the controls.swf via my flex app. I created a class in my external swf, but I need to add some onResize event/check to my scroll bar. Each process is single-threaded and does no explicit locking of the database. When each process terminates normally, it calls DB-close() and DB_ENV-close(). When all processes have terminated, there should be no locks on the database. Episodically, however, the database behaves as if some process was holding a write-lock on it even though all processes have terminated normally. Does each process need to explicitly release all locks before calling DB_ENV-close()? If so, how does the process obtain the "locker" parameter for the call to DB_ENV-loc_vec()?

• Can I make DataGridView.EndEdit trigger the CellValidating event?

  I'm using a DataGridView in my WinForms application. My main objective is to make the Enter key not move to the next row in the grid. I still want the enter key to validate and end edit mode. I found this FAQ entry and subclassed DataGridView to override ProcessDialogKey(). If the key pressed is Enter, I call EndEdit(), otherwise I call base.ProcessDialogKey(). It works great, except the CellValidating event isn't fired. Currently, I'm just manually calling my validation logic before I call EndEdit, but it seems like I'm missing something. I guess I could call OnCellValidating, but then I'd be worried I'm missing some other event. What I really want is some flavour of EndEdit() that behaves just like pressing enter on the last row of a grid with adding disabled.

  I de-normalized my database, since the application was crawling otherwise, and Im storing a list of categories for each item in the DB as a raw html version, and simply echoing it out in my design. Each category is actually a link, which is include a tag. Naturally, this is abit of a pain, especially if I want to change the look of how the category links are displayed, since I gotta update all the old cached entries. What if I were to store this data as a serialized array instead, and simply unserialize it, and then apply formatting to it in php. Would there be a significant performance decrease over simply echoing out the raw html?

  I have a database that acts like a triple store, except that it is just a simple MySQL database. I want to select all triples that have a common predicate and object. Info about RDF and triples I can't seem to work out the SQL. If I had just a single predicate and object to match I would do: select TRIPLE from TRIPLES where PREDICATE="predicateName" and OBJECT="objectName" But if I have a list (HashMap) of many pairs of (predicateName,objectName) I am not sure what I need to do. Please let me know if I need to provide more info, I am not sure that I have made this quite clear, but I am wary of providing too much info and confusing the issue.
