  • How to play the same Sound multiple times with overlap, using OpenAL or Finch?

    Finch uses OpenAL. However, when I have an instance of Sound, and say -play, the sound plays. When I call -play multiple times one after another in a fast paced way, every -play makes the current sound playback of that sound stop and restart it. That's not what I want. Would I have to create multiple sources or buffers to get that working? Or would I just instantiate multiple Sounds with the same file?

How can I elevate the user privileges to call it on startup from Program files/myapp.exe. or Is any other alternative to achieve above goal.

  • Calculate the Hilbert value of a point for use in a Hilbert R-Tree?

    I have an application where a Hilbert R-Tree (wikipedia) (citeseer) would seem to be an appropriate data structure. Specifically, it requires reasonably fast spatial queries over a data set that will experience a lot of updates. However, as far as I can see, none of the descriptions of the algorithms for this data structure even mention how to actually calculate the requisite Hilbert Value; which is the distance along a Hilbert Curve to the point. So any suggestions for how to go about calculating this?

  • Contains performs MUCH slower with variable vs constant string SQL Server

    For some unknown reason I'm running into a problem when passing a variable to a full text search stored procedure performs many times slower than executing the same statement with a constant value. Any idea why and how can that be avoided? This executes very fast: SELECT * FROM table WHERE CONTAINS (comments, '123') This executes very slowly and times out: DECLARE @SearchTerm nvarchar(30) SET @SearchTerm = '123' SET @SearchTerm = '"' + @SearchTerm + '"' SELECT * FROM table WHERE CONTAINS (comments, @SearchTerm) Does this make any sense???

    (Approximately) how many more bits of data must be transferred over the network during an encrypted connection compared to an unencrypted connection? IIUC, once the TLS handshake has completed, the number of bits transferred is equal to those transferred during an unencrypted connection. Is this accurate? As a follow up, is transferring a large file over https significantly slower than transferring that file over http, given fast processors and the same (ideal) network conditions?

My processing would be easier if I could use the File.ReadAllLines method but I'm not sure what is the maximum size of the file that could be read with this method without reading by chunks.     Hi Iam developing an image viewer application just like irfan-view or acdsee which should be capable to view lots of different image file formats (not just the standard ones which can be done with System.Drawing.Image). Iam currently using ImageMagick but it isn't very fast and seems to be unstable with some image files. Can anyone suggest a good imaging library, ideally with a .NET wrapper already present?

    Hi, I have an application where I receive each data 40.000 rows. I have 5 million rows to handle (500 Mb MySQL 5.0 database). Actually, thoses rows are stored in the same table = slow to update, hard to backup, ... Which king of scheme is used in such application to allow long term accessibility to the datas without problems with too big tables, easy backup, fast read / write ?     I have two endpoints (xa,ya) and (xb,yb) of two vectors, respectively a and b, originating from a same point (xo, yo). Also, I know that |a|=|b|+s, where s is a constant. I tried to compute the origin (xo, yo) but seem to fail at some point. How to solve this?

    Hi I've had Jetty recommended as a good container for fast and simple development, in my case, Java Server Faces. I wish to use it with my Eclipse IDE (Version: 3.4.1), but quite frankly, can't figure out how. I've tried various outdated plugins, only with large amounts of errors in return, so I'm hoping someone could guide me from downloading the right version to installing it, and being able to press "RUN", and see a simple Hello World in JSP/JSF work.     in a large listview control collection (say 5000 items), adding a SINGLE extra item can take 10+ seconds in windows vista/7, and that's just the LVM_INSERTITEM message handling it looks that it only affects LVS_ICON, LVS_REPORT and LVS_LIST are still very fast can anybody confirm this? the same code on windows XP with similar listview window styles adds an extra item instantly thanks nikos

To my understanding, cloud computing is a paradigm in which companies put up their data and applications on somebody else's machines aka 'The Cloud'.     Python's itertools module provides a lots of goodies with respect to processing an iterable/iterator by use of generators. For example, permutations(range(3)) --> 012 021 102 120 201 210 combinations('ABCD', 2) --> AB AC AD BC BD CD [list(g) for k, g in groupby('AAAABBBCCD')] --> AAAA BBB CC D What are the equivalent in Ruby? By equivalent, I mean fast and memory efficient (Python's itertools module is written in C).
