  • Is it worth caching a Dictionary for foreign key values in ASP.net?

    - by user169867
I have a Dictionary<int, string> cached (for 20 minutes) that has ~120 ID/Name pairs for a reference table. I iterate over this collection when populating dropdown lists and I'm pretty sure this is faster than querying the DB for the full list each time. My question is more about if it makes sense to use this cached dictionary when displaying records that have a foreign key into this reference table. Say this cached reference table is a EmployeeType table. If I were to query and display a list of employee names and types should I query for EmployeeName and EmployeeTypeID and use my cached dictionary to grab the EmployeeTypeIDs name as each record is displayed or is it faster to just have the DB grab the EmployeeName and JOIN to get the EmployeeType string bypassing the cached Dictionary all together. I know both will work but I'm interested in what will perform the fastest. Thanks for any help.

  • ASP.NET MVC AJAX value not displaying

    - by mazhar kaunain baig
    View: function success(arg) { var obj = arg.get_response().get_object(); if (obj.ErrorMessage === '') { var answer = document.createElement('div'); answer.appendChild(document.createTextNode(obj.Answer)); document.getElementById('answers').appendChild(answer); } else { document.getElementById('errors').innerHTML = obj.ErrorMessage; } } <% using (Ajax.BeginForm("EditOrganizationMeta", "Organization", new AjaxOptions { HttpMethod = "POST", OnSuccess = "success" })) { %> <input type="submit" name="button<%=OrganizationMeta.vcr_MetaKey + Lang.int_LangId %>" value="Save" /> <div id="errors"></div> <div id="answers"></div> <% } %> Controller: [HttpPost] [ValidateInput(false)] public ActionResult EditOrganizationMeta(FormCollection collection) { return Json(new { Answer = "Record Successfully Saved", ErrorMessages = "Title is required" }); } The thing is that success method in the javascript is not getting the required parameters. It is printing undefined there. Is there a problem in javascript method OnSuccess?

  • ToolStripComboBox.SelectedItem change does not propagate to binding source

    - by Marius
My binding is set up as this: _selectXAxisUnitViewModelBindingSource = new BindingSource(); _selectXAxisUnitViewModelBindingSource.DataSource = typeof(SelectXAxisUnitViewModel); _selectedUnitComboBoxBindingSource = new BindingSource(); _selectedUnitComboBoxBindingSource.DataSource = _selectXAxisUnitViewModelBindingSource; _selectedUnitComboBoxBindingSource.DataMember = "AvailableUnits"; _selectedUnitComboBox.ComboBox.DataSource = _selectedUnitComboBoxBindingSource; _selectedUnitComboBox.ComboBox.DisplayMember = String.Empty; _selectedUnitComboBox.ComboBox.ValueMember = String.Empty; _selectedUnitComboBox.ComboBox.DataBindings.Add("SelectedItem", _selectXAxisUnitViewModelBindingSource, "SelectedUnit", true, DataSourceUpdateMode.OnPropertyChanged); // this is a bug in the .Net framework: http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/473777/toolstripcombobox-nested-on-toolstripdropdownbutton-not-getting-bindingcontext _selectedUnitComboBox.ComboBox.BindingContext = this.BindingContext; The property "AvailableUnits" is a collection of strings and the "SelectedUnit" is a string-property. Now the dropdown list is populated as expected, but when I select and item in the list, the change is not propagated to the binding source. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

  • fastest in-memory cache for XslCompiledTransform

    - by rudnev
I have a set of xslt stylesheet files. I need to produce the fastest performance of XslConpiledTransform, so i want to make in-memory representation of these stylesheets. I can load them to in-memory collection as IXpathNavigable on application start, and then load each IXPAthNavigable into singleton XslCompiledTransform on each request. But this works only for styleshhets without xsl:import or xsl:include. (Xsl:import is only for files). also i can load into cache many instances of XSLCompiledTransform for each template. Is it reasonable? Are there other ways? What is the best? what are another tips for improving performance MS Xslt processor?

  • CascadeType problem in One to Many Relation

    - by Milad.KH
Hi I have two classes which have a Unidirectional One to Many relation with each other. public class Offer{ ... @OneToMany(cascade=CascadeType.ALL) @JoinTable(name = "Offer_Fields", joinColumns = @JoinColumn(name = "OFFER_ID"), inverseJoinColumns = @JoinColumn(name = "FIELDMAPPER_ID")) private Set<FieldMapper> fields = new HashSet<FieldMapper>(); } public class FieldMapper{ ... } I want to store an Offer with a set of FieldMapper to database. When I Use CascadeType.ALL in my OneToMany, I got this error: org.hibernate.HibernateException: Illegal attempt to associate a collection with two open sessions and when I change CascadeType to something else I got this error: org.hibernate.TransientObjectException: object references an unsaved transient instance - save the transient instance before flushing: com.RCSTT.library.FieldMapper Thanks for your help.

  • .NET MVC - Storing database result during single page result?

    - by ropstah
Fairly simple issue which is solved in PHP by using a static variable. private static $pages; public function Pages() { if($pages == null) { $pages = new PageCollection(); $pages->findAll(); } } Everywhere in my code I use Pages()::someFindFunction() to make sure the results are fetched only once, and I use that same collection. I want the same in my .NET MVC application: use something like: <%=MySite.Pages.findById(1).Title%> In the code below, if I use a private variable, or if I use a public class with shared variables (doesn't matter) they are both persisted during the entire application. I want them to load the same way PHP does, once per request. Now where do I store the .NET equivalent of private static $pages, so that the code below works? //what to do with $pages?? Public Module MySite Public Function Pages() As PageCollection If $pages Is Nothing Then $pages.loadAll() End If Return $pages End Function End Module

  • Anyone succeeded at injecting Interfaces into Entity Framework 4 Entities, using T4?

    - by Ciel
    Hello: POCO sort of leaves me wanting: (how can I say I use DI/IoC, if the Repository is not the only place that is creating the entities?)...hence my desire to lock it down, get rid of the temptation of newing up POCOs or EntityObjects anywhere in the code, and just allowing entity interfaces above the Repository/Factory layer. For a second there, I nearly thought I had it...was editing EF4's T4 in order to inject in an Interface def. Was going swimmingly, compiled and worked, until I got to the Associations... I wrapped them with a ICollection, and renamed the underlying original collection with a prefix of Wrapped. Unfortunately, when run, throws an error: //The Member 'WrappedSubExamples' in the CLR type 'XAct.App.Data.Model.EF4.Example' is not present in the conceptual model type 'XAct.App.Data.Model.Entity.Example'. var examples = context2.CreateObjectSet(); My T4 segment I used was (this may not work, as it's the longest code snippet I've ever posted here...sorry): #region Generic Property Abstraction <# if (navProperty.ToEndMember.RelationshipMultiplicity == RelationshipMultiplicity.Many) {#> //XAct.App Generic Wrapper: <#=code.SpaceAfter(NewModifier(navProperty))#><#=Accessibility.ForProperty(navProperty)#> ICollection<I<#=MultiSchemaEscape(navProperty.ToEndMember.GetEntityType(), code)#>> <#=code.Escape(navProperty)#> { get { if (_X<#=code.Escape(navProperty)# == null){ _X<#=code.Escape(navProperty)# = new WrappedCollection,<#=MultiSchemaEscape(navProperty.ToEndMember.GetEntityType(), code)#(this.<#=(navProperty.ToEndMember.RelationshipMultiplicity == RelationshipMultiplicity.Many)?"Wrapped":""#<#=code.Escape(navProperty)#); } return _X<#=code.Escape(navProperty)#; } } private ICollection _X<#=code.Escape(navProperty)#; <# } else { # <#=code.SpaceAfter(NewModifier(navProperty))#<#=Accessibility.ForProperty(navProperty)# I<#=MultiSchemaEscape(navProperty.ToEndMember.GetEntityType(), code)# <#=code.Escape(navProperty)# { get { return (I<#=code.Escape(navProperty)#)this.Wrapped<#=code.Escape(navProperty)#; } set { this.Wrapped<#=code.Escape(navProperty)# = value as <#=code.Escape(navProperty)#; } } <# } # #endregion which then wraps the original collection, renamed with the prefix 'Wrapped': /// <summary> /// <#=SummaryComment(navProperty)#> /// </summary><#=LongDescriptionCommentElement(navProperty, region.CurrentIndentLevel) #> [XmlIgnoreAttribute()] [SoapIgnoreAttribute()] [DataMemberAttribute()] [EdmRelationshipNavigationPropertyAttribute("<#=navProperty.RelationshipType.NamespaceName#>", "<#=navProperty.RelationshipType.Name#>", "<#=navProperty.ToEndMember.Name#>")] <# if (navProperty.ToEndMember.RelationshipMultiplicity == RelationshipMultiplicity.Many) { #> <#=code.SpaceAfter(NewModifier(navProperty))#><#=Accessibility.ForProperty(navProperty)#> EntityCollection<<#=MultiSchemaEscape(navProperty.ToEndMember.GetEntityType(), code)#>> Wrapped<#=code.Escape(navProperty)#> { <#=code.SpaceAfter(Accessibility.ForGetter(navProperty))#>get { return ((IEntityWithRelationships)this).RelationshipManager.GetRelatedCollection<<#=MultiSchemaEscape(navProperty.ToEndMember.GetEntityType(), code)#>>("<#=navProperty.RelationshipType.FullName#>", "<#=navProperty.ToEndMember.Name#>"); } <#=code.SpaceAfter(Accessibility.ForSetter(navProperty))#>set { if ((value != null)) { ((IEntityWithRelationships)this).RelationshipManager.InitializeRelatedCollection<<#=MultiSchemaEscape(navProperty.ToEndMember.GetEntityType(), code)#>>("<#=navProperty.RelationshipType.FullName#>", "<#=navProperty.ToEndMember.Name#>", value); } } } <# } else { #> <#=code.SpaceAfter(NewModifier(navProperty))#><#=Accessibility.ForProperty(navProperty)#> <#=MultiSchemaEscape(navProperty.ToEndMember.GetEntityType(), code)#> Wrapped<#=code.Escape(navProperty)#> { <#=code.SpaceAfter(Accessibility.ForGetter(navProperty))#>get { return ((IEntityWithRelationships)this).RelationshipManager.GetRelatedReference<<#=MultiSchemaEscape(navProperty.ToEndMember.GetEntityType(), code)#>>("<#=navProperty.RelationshipType.FullName#>", "<#=navProperty.ToEndMember.Name#>").Value; } <#=code.SpaceAfter(Accessibility.ForSetter(navProperty))#>set { ((IEntityWithRelationships)this).RelationshipManager.GetRelatedReference<<#=MultiSchemaEscape(navProperty.ToEndMember.GetEntityType(), code)#>>("<#=navProperty.RelationshipType.FullName#>", "<#=navProperty.ToEndMember.Name#>").Value = value; } } <# string refPropertyName = navProperty.Name + "Reference"; if (entity.Members.Any(m => m.Name == refPropertyName)) { // 6017 is the same error number that EntityClassGenerator uses.   • What is the most stupid coded solution you have read/improved/witnessed?

    - by Rigo Vides
And for stupid I mean Illogical, non-effective, complex(the bad way), ugly code style. I will start: We had a requirement there when we needed to hide certain objects given the press of a button. So this framework we were using at the time provided a way to tag objects and retrieve all the objects with a certain tag in a complete iterable collection. So I presented the most logically solution given these conditions to my partner: Me: you know, tag all the objects we needed to hide with the same tag, then call the function to get them all, iterate trough them and make them hidden. Partner: I don't know, that is hardcoding for me... Me: So what do you suggest? 20 mins later... Partner: I don't know... let's put a tag to all the objects to be hidden like this, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (and so for each object to be hidden), Then we make a for from 1 to n (where n was the number of objects to hide) and we hide them all there!

  • How not to include a Thumb in ListBoxItem selection

    - by Elad
I have a collection of items. I am presenting the items in a WPF ListBox using DataTemplate. Part of the DataTemplate is a Thumb which is used for resizing and visually separating between items. The Thumb.Visibility is binded to a property of the item (for example, the last item doesn’t have a visible Thumb). The problem is that selecting an item in the ListBox selects the Thumb as well, as it is part of the ListBoxItem. The desired behavior is to select only the data without the Thumb. How is it possible to get this behavior? I don’t want to add items by code the ListBox or to handle the visibility of the Thumb manually. Currently I get all this from the DataTemplate.

  • Ideas for jumping in 2D with Actionscript 3 [included attempt]

    - by befall
So, I'm working on the basics of Actionscript 3; making games and such. I designed a little space where everything is based on location of boundaries, using pixel-by-pixel movement, etc. So far, my guy can push a box around, and stops when running into the border, or when try to the push the box when it's against the border. So, next, I wanted to make it so when I bumped into the other box, it shot forward; a small jump sideways. I attempted to use this (foolishly) at first: // When right and left borders collide. if( (box1.x + box1.width/2) == (box2.x - box2.width/2) ) { // Nine times through for (var a:int = 1; a < 10; a++) { // Adds 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. if (a <= 5) { box2.x += a; } else { box2.x += a - (a - 5)*2 } } } Though, using this in the function I had for the movement (constantly checking for keys up, etc) does this all at once. Where should I start going about a frame-by-frame movement like that? Further more, it's not actually frames in the scene, just in the movement. This is a massive pile of garbage, I apologize, but any help would be appreciated.

  • RESTful Design: Paging Collections

    - by Koen Bok
I am designing a REST api that needs paging (per x) enforces from the server side. What would be the right way to page through any collection of resources: Option 1: GET /resource/page/<pagenr> GET /resource/tags/<tag1>,<tag2>/page/<pagenr> GET /resource/search/<query>/page/<pagenr> Option 2: GET /resource/?page=<pagenr> GET /resource/tags/<tag1>,<tag2>?page=<pagenr> GET /resource/search/<query>?page=<pagenr> If 1, what should I do with GET /resource? Redirect to /resource/page/0, reply with some error or reply with the exact same as /resource/page/0 without redirecting?

  • XmlSerializer Performance Issue when Specifying XmlRootAttribute

    - by Dougc
I'm currently having a really weird issue and I can't seem to figure out how to resolve it. I've got a fairly complex type which I'm trying to serialize using the XmlSerializer class. This actually functions fine and the type serializes properly, but seems to take a very long time in doing so; around 5 seconds depending on the data in the object. After a bit of profiling I've narrowed the issue down - bizarrely - to specifying an XmlRootAttribute when calling XmlSerializer.Serialize. I do this to change the name of a collection being serialized from ArrayOf to something a bit more meaningful. Once I remove the parameter the operation is almost instant! Any thoughts or suggestions would be excellent as I'm entirely stumped on this one!

  • Access MP3 audio data independently of ID3 tags?

    - by kyl191
Hi, this is a 2 part question. First off, is it possible to access the audio data in an MP3 independently of the ID3 tags, and secondly, is there any way to do so using available libraries? I recently consolidated my music collection from 3 computers and ended up with songs which had changed ID3 tags, but the audio data itself was unmodified. Running a search for duplicate files failed because the file changed with the ID3 tag change, but I think it should be possible to identify duplicate files if I just run a deduplication using the audio data for comparison. I know that it's possible to seek to a particular position past the ID3 header in the file, and directly read the data, but was wondering if there's a library that would expose the audio data so I could just extract the data, run a checksum on it, and store the computed result somewhere, then look for identical checksums. (Also, I'd probably have to use some kind of library when you take into account variable length headers.)

  • WPF data grid for financial style reporting?

    - by user191254
Hello, I'm looking for a decent WPF data grid or solution involving one to represent financial data. I've looked at many - the WPF one, XCeed, Ingragistics, DevExpress, etc.... but none of them seem to offer the simple requirement I have: I want to be able to display group subtotals in their columns in the group row, e.g. GROUP 1 xxxx.xx GROUP 2 xxxx.xx ROW 1 xx.xx ROW 2 xx.xx Does anyone know of a grid that does this, or a nice supporting collection that implements aggregate functions (group totals would need to be used in individual line items) so that existing grids with a bit of XAML styling would work? Thanks in advance, Stephen

  • Is Using Python to MapReduce for Cassandra Dumb?

    - by UltimateBrent
Since Cassandra doesn't have MapReduce built in yet (I think it's coming in 0.7), is it dumb to try and MapReduce with my Python client or should I just use CouchDB or Mongo or something? The application is stats collection, so I need to be able to sum values with grouping to increment counters. I'm not, but pretend I'm making Google analytics so I want to keep track of which browsers appear, which pages they went to, and visits vs. pageviews. I would just atomically update my counters on write, but Cassandra isn't very good at counters either. May Cassandra just isn't the right choice for this? Thanks!

In the java aplication we make and run some objects in main(class and method) and use them while program is running. for example an object that hold a collection of data that will be needed for all user requests. My question is: How can i create and hold such objects and data that should be available for all users and clients.

  • What's the official Microsoft way to track counts of dynamic controls to be reconstructed upon Postback?

    - by John K
When creating dynamic controls based on a data source of arbitrary and changing size, what is the official way to track exactly how many controls need to be rebuilt into the page's control collection after a Postback operation (i.e. on the server side during the ASP.NET page event lifecycle) specifically the point at which dynamic controls are supposed to be rebuilt? Where is the arity stored for retrieval and reconstruction usage? By "official" I mean the Microsoft way of doing it. There exist hacks like Session storage, etc but I want to know the bonafide or at least Microsoft-recommended way. I've been unable to find a documentation page stating this information. Usually code samples work with a set of dynamic controls of known numbers. It's as if doing otherwise would be tougher. Update: I'm not inquiring about user controls or static expression of declarative controls, but instead about dynamically injecting controls completely from code-behind, whether they be mine, 3rd-party or built-in ASP.NET controls.

  • WCF extensions without including the assembly version

    - by Marc Gravell
As discussed here, I'm trying to add a WCF endpoint-extension; I've got it working, but I need to include the full assembly details: <extensions> <behaviorExtensions> <add name="protobuf" type="ProtoBuf.ServiceModel.ProtoBehaviorExtension, protobuf-net, Version=1.0.0.275, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=257b51d87d2e4d67"/> </behaviorExtensions> </extensions> What I would like to do (to avoid issues when updating etc, especially for samples) is to include just the names: <add name="protobuf" type="ProtoBuf.ServiceModel.ProtoBehaviorExtension, protobuf-net"/> (which is what you might expect from standard assembly-naming conventions) However, if I do this, I get a big error: Parser Error Message: An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for system.serviceModel/behaviors: Extension element 'protobuf' cannot be added to this element. Verify that the extension is registered in the extension collection at system.serviceModel/extensions/behaviorExtensions. Is it possible (and if so: how) to add an extension without having to specify the assembly-version?

  • Splash screen moves up before closing

    - by rturney
In C# I am having a problem with the splash screen. When it is time to close and the main Form1 appears, it moves over to the upper right corner of Form1. It then disappears. I have never had this occur before and have just about run out of ideas to fix it. • Ignore case in Python strings

    - by Paul Oyster
What is the easiest way to compare strings in Python, ignoring case? Of course one can do (str1.lower() <= str2.lower()), etc., but this created two additional temporary strings (with the obvious alloc/g-c overheads). I guess I'm looking for an equivalent to C's stricmp(). [Some more context requested, so I'll demonstrate with a trivial example:] Suppose you want to sort a looong list of strings. You simply do theList.sort(). This is O(n * log(n)) string comparisons and no memory management (since all strings and list elements are some sort of smart pointers). You are happy. Now, you want to do the same, but ignore the case (let's simplify and say all strings are ascii, so locale issues can be ignored). You can do theList.sort(key=lambda s: s.lower()), but then you cause two new allocations per comparison, plus burden the garbage-collector with the duplicated (lowered) strings. Each such memory-management noise is orders-of-magnitude slower than simple string comparison. Now, with an in-place stricmp()-like function, you do: theList.sort(cmp=stricmp) and it is as fast and as memory-friendly as theList.sort(). You are happy again. The problem is any Python-based case-insensitive comparison involves implicit string duplications, so I was expecting to find a C-based comparisons (maybe in module string). Could not find anything like that, hence the question here. (Hope this clarifies the question).

  • Is -1 a magic number? An anti-pattern? A code smell? Quotes and guidelines from authorities

    - by polygenelubricants
I've seen -1 used in various APIs, most commonly when searching into a "collection" with zero-based indices, usually to indicate the "not found" index. This "works" because -1 is never a legal index to begin with. It seems that any negative number should work, but I think -1 is almost always used, as some sort of (unwritten?) convention. I would like to limit the scope to Java at least for now. My questions are: What are the official words from Sun regarding using -1 as a "special" return value like this? What quotes are there regarding this issue, from e.g. James Gosling, Josh Bloch, or even other authoritative figures outside of Java? What were some of the notable discussions regarding this issue in the past?

  • Give me a practical use-case of Multi-set

    - by Calm Storm
I would like to know a few practical use-cases (if they are not related/tied to any programming language it will be better).I can associate Sets, Lists and Maps to practical use cases. For example if you wanted a glossary of a book where terms that you want are listed alphabetically and a location/page number is the value, you would use the collection TreeMap(OrderedMap which is a Map) Somehow, I can't associate MultiSets with any "practical" usecase. Does someone know of any uses? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiset does not tell me enough :) PS: If you guys think this should be community-wiki'ed it is okay. The only reason I did not do it was "There is a clear objective way to answer this question".

My Event handler is as below static void f_PriceChanged(Objet f, eventData e) { if (prices.ContainsKey(e.ItemText)) prices[e.ItemText] = e.price; else prices.Add(e.ItemText, e.price); } Not to mention the prices is declared as class level. I have modified the button code from original post as Button btn = new Button(); btn.Dock = DockStyle.Bottom; btn.Click += delegate { bl.Reset(); }; form.Controls.Add(btn); Internally the Dictionary is updated as expected but grid does not update. Clicking on button generate exception Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute What to do?
