  • how to make soulseek portable?

    hi all, i was wondering if it's possible to run soulseek as portable on an external hd? the main problem is that soulseek is using local paths to "documents and settings" which means it can't be portable unless i'm copying those files every time. i've tried RegRapper but it seems that it's not possible to map the "document and settings" folder to the external hd. any ideas how it could be done? thx

    Hi, I have a little problem with declarative-authorization. I have a User and Role Model with a has_and_belongs_to_many association. I've created a Role named :moderator in my authorization_rules.rb Is it possible that a User with the Role Moderator only gets the Users that have the Moderator Role assigned to it?? -- User.with_permissions_to(:index) I thought it would be possible like that: role :moderator do has_permission_on :users, :to => :index do if_attribute :roles => contains { ????? } end end I also created a named_scope in my User Model because I thought it would help... class User has_and_belongs_to_many :roles named_scope :by_role, lambda { |role| { :include => :roles, :conditions => {"roles.name" => role} } } end Does anyone knows if it's possible to do this with declarative_authorization?   • How to make an ISO copy of Linux-filesystem and user files of VPS Debian based?

    Hello! I have a Debian-Based VPS on some hosting. I want to migrate from it and i need to make a full copy of all Linux-filesystem (and installed packages) + all home directory with website files. And then pack/convert it to ISO image so that to use it on cloud hostings like Amazon. The problem is that i have only ssh root access. Hosting support can't do that for me. Another part of the question - is it possible to enlarge the Linux-filesystem by not re-installing it and using the free space of home directory? Is it possible to do? I guess it is possible with rsync or something like that. Will my Mysql databes copy together with all other data? Thanks in advance!

    Is it possible to instantly deploy a certain piece of software by creating a GPO in Active Directory? I realize it's possible to do this but only after rebooting the computer, and that is something we don't always want to do, especially since some of the software I want to deploy on servers. What are the options? One thing to note is that most of our users do NOT have admin rights as I am talking not only about servers but also about workstations in the classrooms.

    I learned an example of usage of sockets. In this example a client sends a request to a server to open a socket and then the server (listening to a specific port) opens a socket and everything is fine, socket is "opened" from both sides (client and server). But it is still not clear to me how flexible is this stuff. For example, is it possible for the client to close an opened (from both ends) socket and to reopen it again (under condition that the server keeps the socket opened). Is it possible for the server to "know" that a socket was closed on the client side? Is it possible for the client to know that a socket was closed on the server side?

    Is it possible to create an HVM guest in XenServer 5.5 that uses PV drivers for disk and network without being fully paravirutalized? This should give me decent performance from the VM without having to jump through hoops to create a PV guest when a pre-built template doesn't exist. Since PV drivers exist for Windows, and XenServer provides templates for windows that use HVM virtualization this must be possible, I just don't see how to configure this myself.

Printing these labels is ok, but some of the label paper are quarter turned and the PDF are printed incorrectly. There is a possibility to rotate the page before printing. But is it possible to rotate a PDF file and save it again as a PDF file? And there are thousands of PDF files, is it also possible to do this is a batch program?

    Two question regarding sudo-login into an ubuntu-system (debian tips welcome as well): Is it possible to require sudoers on my box to only login with publickey-authentication? Is it possible to log which ip sudoers log in from and check that for "unusual activity" or take actions? I'm thinking about temporarily removing sudo-rights if sudoers don't log in from whitelisted IPs. Or is that too risky to be exploited?

    I have a generic function that is constrained to struct. My inputs are boxed ("objects"). Is it possible to unbox the value at runtime to avoid having to check for each possible type and do the casts manually? See the above example: public struct MyStruct { public int Value; } public void Foo<T>(T test) where T : struct { // do stuff } public void TestFunc() { object o = new MyStruct() { Value = 100 }; // o is always a value type Foo(o); } In the example, I know that o must be a struct (however, it does not need to be MyStruct ...). Is there a way to call Foo without tons of boilerplate code to check for every possible struct type? Thank you.

    Hello, In MySQL I have a table called "meanings" with three columns: "person" (int), "word" (byte, 16 possible values) "meaning" (byte, 26 possible values). A person assigns one or more meanings to each word: person word meaning ------------------- 1 1 4 1 2 19 1 2 7 <-- second meaning for word 2 1 3 5 ... 1 16 2 Then another person, and so on. There will be thousands of persons. I need to find for each of the 16 words the top three meanings (with their frequencies). Something like: word 1: meaning 5 (35% of people), meaning 19 (22% of people), meaning 2 (13% of people) word 2: meaning 8 (57%), meaning 1 (18%), meaning 22 (7%) ... Is it possible to solve this with a single MySQL query? (If this problem is a classic one and has been answered elsewhere, I would appreciate if you could give me a link to the solution.)     I have a nice little USB light which has no off switch, it is 'on' for the duration of being plugged in. My question is, is there a way of disabling the USB port so as to turn off the light while it is still plugged in? Preferably, this could be done from the command line, but if it's possible at all that would be really cool regardless. I use Mac and Linux, but am interested to learn if this is possible in any OS, or if physical hardware prevents usage like this.

    I'm currently running a Microsoft Server 2008 R2 box and want to utilize Volume Shadow Copy but my development machine doesn't have enough hard drive space for 30 days worth of copies, which is what I am aiming for and currently only have 5 days of backups.     From what I understand, it's a best practice to reuse XmlHttpRequest objects whenever possible. Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time understanding why. It seems like trying to reuse XHR objects can increase code complexity, introduce possible browser incompatibilities, and lead to other subtle bugs. After researching this question for a while, I did come up with a list of possible explanations: Fewer objects created means less garbage collecting Reusing XHR objects reduces the chance of memory leaks The overhead of creating a new XHR object is high The browser is able to perform some sort of network optimization under hood But I'm not sure if any of these reasons are actually valid. Any light you can shed on this question would be much appreciated.
