• SAS/R calculate distance between two groups

  I would like to calculate distance between two groups. I am very confused. I have a two data sets. One is about a company and one is about employees. I would like to find out how their age( a company in which an employee is hired and an employee) are similar or not. I think I need to standarize also.. calcuate euclidean distance between each person and a company. (4-5 people in a company) calculate euclidean distance between each person and a company in industry level. My dataset is like this: person person_age company company_age insustry 1 50 1 5 1 2 40 1 5 1 3 30 2 1 1 4 20 2 1 1 5 25 3 8 2 Please help me. I don't mind using SAS or R. I am very confused.

• A gridview for debugging collections?

  Hi Guys, I'm working with fairly large generic collections and I need a quick way to view all the items and their properties in these collections while debugging. When I say view all the items, I mean I would like to view the collection as if it was bound to say.. a gridview. That was I could see all all the item properties listed. Currently VS2010 displays the collection object during debugging, but it takes several clicks before I can view any item's properties within the collection. As I'm using collection with 50 to 100 items in them, I've having a hard time getting a feel for the collection data because of having to click through to view each individual item's properties during debugging. Do you have any ideas or know of a visual studio plugin that can help display collections in a table format or gridview format? Thanks for you time

• Remembering Form information

  Hi everyone! I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I feel my situation is a little different... I have a huge form (like 50 questions involving checkboxes, drop downs, text boxes and textareas) When a user submits a form and the validation page throws an error, is there an easy way to keep the info they entered? My intitial form is on form.php and then the form action is form_posted.php, before anything is run on form_posted.php I have my validation code which sends the user back to form.php with an error number (eg. form.php?error=3) if there was a problem with any in particular. This is done with header("form.php?error=3") so on form.php do the posted variables exist? even tho the page wasn't specifically sent with any posted variables. Also if this is the case, is it completely secure to be making the value of a textbox what it was before? like <input type="text" value="php echo $_POSTED["username"] ?>">

• iPhone CoreData Migration and modifying data

  I have an app that has both static data and user entered data in the CoreData store. I understand how to do a lightweight migration to a new database version, but how to I add or modify the static data without affecting the users data? If I have 50 static data entries to add and a couple to modify (ie. spelling mistakes) should they be stored in a different sqlite db and copied over? Also, is it possible to look at the version of the data store so that this copy only happens the first time the app is started up after upgrading? Sorry for the general noob type question, but this is the first time I have ever had to deal with this sort of issue. Thanks, Scott

  I'm trying to generate rating place table using following receipt http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1776821/assign-places-in-the-rating-mysql-php but my database is high loaded. I tried not to create table, but use MEMORY TABLE and update it using following SQL query insert into tops (uid) select uid from users order by exp desc; but got the following MySQL error Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting transaction because there are too many queries until SQL select is being executed. How to solve this problem? P.S. CREATE TABLE tops as SELECT work almost fine except high server load... up to load average: 50 if tops are non-memory table. My table users has near 4.5 millions of rows. Thanks for any advices.

• R problems using rpart with 4000 records and 13 attributes

  I have attempted to email the author of this package without success, just wondering if anybody else has experienced this. I am having an using rpart on 4000 rows of data with 13 attributes. I can run the same test on 300 rows of the same data with no issue. When I run on 4000 rows, Rgui.exe runs consistently at 50% cpu and the UI hangs.... it will stay like this for at least 4-5hours if I let it run, and never exit or become responsive. here is the code I am using both on the 300 and 4000 size subset : train<-read.csv("input.csv",header=T) y<-train[,18] x<-train[,3:17] library(rpart) fit<-rpart(y~.,x) Is this a known limitation of rpart, am I doing something wrong? potential workarounds? any assistance appreciated

• How does one record audio from a Javascript based webapp?

  I'm trying to write a web-app that records WAV files (eg: from the user's microphone). I know Javascript alone can not do this, but I'm interested in the least proprietary method to augment my Javascript with. My targeted browsers are Firefox for PC and Mac (so no ActiveX). Please share your experiences with this. I gather it can be done with Flash (but not as a WAV formated file). I gather it can be done with Java (but not without code-signing). Are these the only options? @dominic-mazzoni I'd like to record the file as a WAV because because the purpose of the webapp will be to assemble a library of good quality short soundbites. I estimate upload will be 50 MB, which is well worth it for the quality. The app will only be used on our intranet.   Right now I have a window with horizontal ad vertical scrollbars. I use these parameters to initialize it. //Set OGL Frame scroll bar SCROLLINFO inf; inf.cbSize = sizeof(SCROLLINFO); inf.fMask = SIF_PAGE | SIF_POS; inf.nPage = 20; inf.nPos = 30; It creates them in the center and I like their size, but when I scroll I multiply by 50 which creates chopiness. How could I add more resolution to the bars and still keep the same thumb size. Is there a way I can calculate the size and position of the bar based on the above parameters? Thanks

• Transparent control over WM Player ActiveX component in .NET

  I have a Windows media player activex component in my Form. On top of this WM player i have a picturebox with background color set to transparent. When i set an image for this picturebox , thought the image contains transparent areas it is displayed as black when the picturebox is above the WM player component. Where as if i place the PictureBox somewhere else in the form. The transparent area are rendered properly. So is there anyway that i can place a transparent image on top of a WM Player component. (hmm something like watermark may be). I want this picture to be displayed with may be 50% opacity when the video is playing in WM player control. Will GDI+ be of any use in this case?

My question is whether there's a way to get the result with one, efficient SQL query. I can almost see how to do it with GROUP BY, but not quite. • CSS: Centering a floated block level element in IE6 (It almost works)

  I have a block level element which I am centering on the page. I have gotten it to work for all other browsers except IE6 where it ALMOST works. http://tinyurl.com/28sh9eq If I view the page in IE6 the red box is slightly off center of the pink one in IE. If I then resize the browser window it snaps into place where I want it. Uhhhhh.... yea.... what gives? How come resizing the window makes it work? It seems that Hibernate uses the value returned by the sequence hosted by my Oracle database, but then modify it before assigning it to my entity...

  Hello, I have MSSQL 2008 Ent and OLTP database with two big tables. How I can move this tables to another filegroup without service interrupting? Now, about 100-130 records inserted and 30-50 records updated each second in this tables. Each table have about 100M records and six fields (including one field geography). I looking for solution via google, but all solutions contain "create second table, insert rows from first table, drop first table, bla bla bla". Can I use partitioning functions for solving this problem? Thank you.

• Is there a Windows utility that will let me do multiple programmatic find/replaces on text that I cu

  I've inherited some C# code that contains about a thousand lines of source that I need to modify, transforming it from this: newDataRow["to_dir"] = comboBox108.Text; To this: assetAttributes.Add("to_dir", comboBox108.Text); The lines occur in various places throughout the application in groups of 40 or 50. Modifying each line by hand in Visual Studio 2008 can be done but it's labor intensive and prone to errors. Is there a Windows utility out there that will let me cut and paste groups of code into it and then run some sort of reg-ex expression to transform the individual lines one-by-one? I'd also be willing to use some sort of VS 2008 add-in that performed the same set of reg-ex operations against a selection of code. Thanks in advance.
