• Obtaining Nearby Wifi In C

  I am trying to identify a method for obtaining nearby wifi access points using C in Windows. I am coding in Visual Studio 2010. I have read the necessary documentation but am lacking in guidance on how to implement code that would accomplish this. I am specifically interested in obtaining the MAC address of nearby access points or at a minimum the MAC address of the currently connected Wifi access point. Is it possible to do this using WMI in Windows, specifically on Windows XP SP3 and later? Any pointers on how to do this are greatly appreciated.

  I would like to edit the ASP.NET MVC templates for Visual Studio so that any new action or controller created has a specific piece of code within it by default. For instance, I'd like to replace the generated: public ActionResult MyAction() { return View(); } with a specific coding standard we prefer to use within in my team. eg: public ActionResult About() { try { DoStuff(); return View(); } catch(Exception) { HandleException(); } } I've looked through the filesystem, but I cannot find anything specific that relates to the ASP.NET mvc templates. • Extendable accessing of sqlite database on android platform

  Hi, I am fairly new to the android sdk and databases and have been searching for an answer to this quite some time. I am trying to build an app which has multiple tables within a database. e.g. one for weapons, armours etc. However, my DatabaseManager class which handles all of my table creating, DatabaseHelper inner class and populating of data is creating for an extremely large class requiring high maintenance. Every time I would like to add or remove a table column I need to change quite a few areas of code, - Every reference to the addition of a row in that table with data - The method that the above calls - The method returning all of the database rows - The code in the helper class creating the table - Any specific update methods My question is this: Surely there must be some better way of coding this system, maybe using a database isn't the best way to go, or am i just not used to such large classes having only learned java at university and my largest class consisting of a mere 400-600 lines of code.   This should be easy for many of you, but for me it's just another bit of rust needing to be chipped away as I get back into basic Java coding. Using bloody associative arrays for so long in other languages have turned me nice and spoiled. :P My problem is simple: I'm storing a set of objects, each containing a string and a number, in a list. I would like each object inserted into this list to be sorted alphabetically by its string. I would also like to be able to retrieve objects from the list by their string as well. I would like to do this as formally and/or efficiently as possible. Is there something already available in the Java standard libraries for this?

I don't know 2 things: 1) Where should I use (within component class!) the methods for drawing, like FillRect or PolyLine? In OnPaint handler that I should define and map it in MESSAGE MAP? Will it (OnPaint handler) be called from OnPaint handler of the dialog of the application or where from? 2)How to connect the component, once it is made, to the test application, which will for example be dialog based? • Args error in main method for client-server program

  (This is in drupal, but I don't really think that matters.) I have a big list of properties that I need to map between two objects, and in one, the value that I need to map is buried inside an array. I'm hoping to avoid hard-coding the property names in the code. If I have a class like this: class Product { public $colors, $sizes; } I can access the properties like this: $props = array('colors', 'sizes'); foreach ($props as $p) { $this->$p = $other_object->$p; } As far as I can tell, if each of the properties on the left are an array, I can't do this: foreach ($props as $p) { $this->$p[0]['value'] = $other_object->$p; } Is that correct, or am I missing some clever way around this?

Where someone using a CMS could type [readmore] anywhere into the Content field, which would be replaced by the above anchor via PHP. This way they would be easily able to control where the Read More break appears within the container. In the associated example I am hard-coding the height to 75px, although what I want is for the height to be dependent on the location of the anchor id="stop" in the text. Thanks. I have been using public properties instead of exposing member variables publically. Many a people told that this approach helps in encapsulation. I don’t realize any encapsulation advantage by making it a property. While discussions, I came to know that not many people knows about the real reason for going for Property.   I am interested in creating a simple web application that will take in user input, convert it to an XML file and send the file to a database. Coding wise I feel I am okay, it is just the general setup and what implementation to use I am a bit unsure of. At the moment I have a JSP page containing a form, the user fills out the form and on submit a get method is sent to a servlet, in the servlet doGet() method the servlet is instantiating a java object and passing it the user inputted data. The java object then writes that data to an XML file and sends it to the database via REST. All I would be interested to know is if this the standard/optimal way of creating such a web application. • Recursive solution to finding patterns

  I was solving a problem on recursion which is to count the total number of consecutive 8's in a number. For example: input: 8801 output: 2 input: 801 output: 0 input: 888 output: 3 input: 88088018 output:4 I am unable to figure out the logic of passing the information to the next recursive call about whether the previous digit was an 8. I do not want the code but I need help with the logic. For an iterative solution, I could have used a flag variable, but in recursion how do I do the work which flag variable does in an iterative solution. Also, it is not a part of any assignment. This just came to my mind because I am trying to practice coding using recursion.

• Should user preferences be included in the users table?

  I'm creating a members site, and I'm currently working on the user Preference settings. Should I create a table with all the preference fields (about 17 fields) or should I include them in the main member table along with the account settings? Is there a limit as to how many fields I should have in a table? currently the member table has about 21 fields... not sure if its okay to add another 17 more fields when I can easily just put them in another table. It'll take more coding to pull up the data though... any sugguestions?

  Heh, that's something that many plugin authors do without needing help, isn't it? :) Here's the rub -- I'm coding a jQuery plugin which I have the intent to sell. I want to provide a live demo of it; of course, I don't want anyone just using the demo code. I know it's dumb, and it certainly doesn't bring any good karma, but what are some naughty things I can do in the demo script that would make life reasonably difficult for anyone trying to use it? Setting undefined = true comes to mind, as well as overriding jQuery methods. Any suggestions beyond that?

  I'm currently using QDataStream to serialize my classes. I have quite a few number of my own classes that I serialize often. Should I derive QDataStream to create my own DataStream class? Or is there a better pattern than this? Note that these custom classes are used by many of our projects, so maybe doing so will make coding easier. Another way to phrase this question is: when a framework provides you with a serialization class, how do you handle serializing your own custom-type classes such that you don't have to remember how to serialize them everytime.

• ANTLR: using stringTemplate

  (I'm a Noob with Antlr)... I'm having difficulties getting my grammar with StringTemplates. Basically I'm trying to write a little DSL. I can get my grammar the way I want (it parses correctly), but I can't get the generation of the target code to work with templates. So here's a snippet of my grammar: grammar Pfig; options { output=template; language=CSharp2; } conf : globalName ; globalName : 'GlobalName:' ID -> localConf(name ={$ID.text}) ; I simplified it quite a bit just to get the essence across. Basically, when the lex/parse comes across `GlobalName: Foo' I want it to spit out text based on the StringTemplate called 'localConf'. Super straightforward. So now, let's fire up the parser in a test app and have it process an input file. // C# processing a file with the lex/parser. // the 'app.pfig' file just has one line that reads 'GlobalName: Bla' using (FileStream fs = File.OpenRead("c:\\app.pfig")) { PfigParser parser = new PfigParser(new CommonTokenStream( new PfigLexer(new ANTLRInputStream(fs)))); using (TextReader tr = File.OpenText("./Pfig.stg")) { parser.TemplateLib = new StringTemplateGroup(tr); } var parseResult = parser.conf(); string code = parseResult.Template.ToString(); // Fail: template is null } I can step through the parser code and see that it correctly identifies my text and applies the stringTemplate correctly. The problem is that since this 'globalName' rule is a subrule of 'conf' it doesn't get executed directly--the method just finds it and returns. But the calling 'Conf' method does not keep the return value from the subrule--it goes to thin air. This means that my resultant template on the last line is null. If I get rid of the 'conf' rule in my grammar and call 'globalName' directly, it will work (since it's the only rule on the stack). But I obviously want more than one rule. I've generated the parser in Java and it does the same thing: // antlr generated parser code public PfigParser.conf_return conf() // throws RecognitionException [1] { PfigParser.conf_return retval = new PfigParser.conf_return(); try { { PushFollow(FOLLOW_globalName_in_conf30); globalName(); // <- it calls globalName() but doesn't keep the return. state.followingStackPointer--; } retval.Stop = input.LT(-1); } // snip It's simple to see I don't get some basic concept with how the Template approach is supposed to work with Antlr. I'm quite sure this is my problem but I'm a loggerheads to know what I'm doing wrong... the examples I've seen don't really show real-world template emission of code.

• Flash -> ByteArray -> AMFPHP -> Invalid Image !??

  Hi, Im loading images into Flash and using JPGEncoder to encode the image to a ByteArray and send this to AMF PHP which writes out the bytearray to a file. This all appears to work correctly and I can download the resulting file in Photoshop CS4 absolutely fine. When i try to open it from the desktop or open it back in Flash it doesnt work... Picasa my default image browser says "Invalid" Here is the code i use to write the bytearray to a file - $jpg = $GLOBALS["HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA"]; file_put_contents($filename, $jpg); That's it ... I use the NetConnection class to connect and call the service, do I need to say Im sending jpg data? I assumed that JPGEncoder took care of that. How can I validate the bytearray before writing the file? Do I need to set MIME type or something .. excuse the slightly noob questions, a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. • Jruby Gems-in-a-jar issue

  Hi all, I am trying to write some code in ruby (using jruby) to be compiled to java bytecode with jrubyc and deployed to a remote machine where it will be run on the JVM (no ruby available there). Everything works fine as long as I am happy to stick with the standard jruby library. As explained on the jruby website, I simply copy the jruby-complete.jar library to the remote machine and include it in the classpath at runtime. I fire my compiled script and it works: cool! The problems start when I need some other libraries (typically rubygems) to run my script. I am aware of cool stuff like rawr, -which I successfully tested- to put together all you need in a single package. However that is not the solution I am looking for: I will have many small scripts to run independently and I don't want each of them to grow to at least 10 MB just because I insanely include the jruby-complete.jar in each of them. What I would like is to compile a .jar for each of the libraries that I will need to use, put all of them in a common folder on the remote machine and include them at runtime in the classpath when I run my compiled jruby scripts on the JVM. This said, I tried to follow the instructions here: http://blog.nicksieger.com/articles/2009/01/10/jruby-1-1-6-gems-in-a-jar I tried exactly the example shown there, with the "chronic" gem. Going step by step: Install the gem locally: java -jar jruby-complete-1.1.6.jar -S gem install -i ./chronic chronic --no-rdoc --no-ri Package it into a jar: jar cf chronic.jar -C chronic .
